Veteran Dion Lewis Announces Retirement

Former running back Dion Lewis has announced his retirement from the NFL. The dual-threat spent 10 seasons in the league playing for various teams and still received interest from teams in the offseason before deciding to call it quits.

Lewis had a stellar career at the University of Pittsburgh, winning the Big East Rookie of The Year and Offensive Player of The Year during his college playing years. He was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2011 Draft but saw little playing time during his first two seasons in Philadelphia. After suffering a fractured fibula, he was then traded to the Cleveland Browns but missed the entire 2013 season.

Lewis did not play in 2014 but signed a future/reserve contract with the New England Patriots. Lewis gained a total of 622 all-purpose yards and four touchdowns before tearing his ACL in Week 9. He missed the first nine games of the 2016 season before returning to help the team during their fifth Super Bowl run. Lewis scored three touchdowns in the team’s divisional-round win over the Houston Texans.

In 2018, Lewis signed a four-year deal with the Tennessee Titans. However, he saw diminished stats during his two seasons with the Titans and was released in 2020 before signing with the New York Giants.
