US Open TV Schedule, Broadcast Times For Day 2 (Tuesday, Aug. 29)

The 137th U.S. Open kicked off at Arthur Ashe Stadium in Flushing, Queens on Monday (Aug. 28), and saw plenty of action take place.

In the men’s tournament, fifth-seeded Croatian Maran Cilic — the 2014 U.S. Open winner — beat American Tenny Sandgren 6-4, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. Cilic hit 55 winners and threw in 57 unforced errors in a mediocre performance over two hours and 47 minutes.

Meanwhile, eighth-seeded Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga had a more pleasant afternoon at Arthur Ashe: He defeated Romania’s Marius Copil 6-3, 6-3, 6-4.

On the women’s side, seventh-seeded Brit Johanna Konta fell to unseeded Russian-born Serbian Aleksandra Krunić 6-4, 3-6, 4-6.

Petra Kvitova — a Czech 13th-seed — defeated unseeded Serbian Jelena Janković in straight sets 7-5, 7-5.

Among the most anticipated matches on the women’s side for Round 1 on Monday night is that between second-seeded Romanian Simona Halep and Russian superstar Maria Sharapovawho was granted a wild card entry into the tournament following her return from a doping suspension. That game will begin at 7 pm EST and close out the first round.

Garbine Muguruza is the favorite in the women’s tournament. The 23-year-old Spaniard defeated Venus Williams in two sets in the women’s final at Wimbledon in July.

Just like Day 1, Day 2 will be shown live on ESPN and ESPN2 with live-streaming on WatchESPN and the WatchESPN app. The Tennis Channel will also have additional coverage.

Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer are both favorites in the men’s competition, and will begin playing on Tuesday.

Top-seed Nadal will play unseeded Serbian Dušan Lajović at 2:15 pm EST, while third-seeded Federer will face 19-year-old American qualifier Frances Tiafoe at 8:15 pm EST.

Also playing on the men’s side on Tuesday will be 18th-seeded Frenchman Gael Monfils, who will play qualifying compatriot Jérémy Chardy at 12:15 pm EST.

On the women’s side, top-seed Karolina Pliskova of Czech Republic will take on Polish qualifier Magda Linette at 11 am, while 15th-seeded American Madison Keyes will face Belgian qualifier Elise Mertens at 7 pm.

Novak Djokovic and Stan Wawrinka are both out for the rest of 2017 due to injury (elbow and knee, respectively). Serena Williams isn’t competing in this year’s tournament as she is soon due to give birth to her first child.
