Football Stadiums around Europe remain empty due to the Coronavirus Pandemic as Government social distancing laws prohibit fans inside venues resulting in fixtures being played behind closed doors.
Bayern Munich’s Javi Martinez came on during extra time to score his side’s winner against Spanish club Sevilla.
The UEFA Super Cup is held every year and two teams compete for it, the UEFA Champions League winner and UEFA Europa League winner. This year in Budapest, UEFA Europa League winners Sevilla and UEFA Champions League winners Bayern Munich faced off.
During the early minutes of the game, Sevilla earned a controversial penalty after Bayern’s David Alaba pushed Sevilla’s Ivan Rakitic in the penalty area. Sevilla’s Lucas Ocampos took the shot and scored. Before the end of the first half, Bayern drew with Sevilla after Leon Goretzka scored a goal assisted by Robert Lewandowski.
The second half was full of chances for both teams. Bayern managed to score two goals, one by Lewandowski and the other by new signing Leroy Sane, but both goals were ruled out for offside by the VAR. Towards the end of the game, Sevilla’s Youssef En-Nesyri went one-on-one with Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, but missed the shot.
