Twins’ Carlos Correa Delivers Clutch Homer After Being Activated Off Seven-Day Concussion List

The Minnesota Twins activated shortstop Carlos Correa from the seven-day concussion list last week. The Twins’ shortstop missed the minimum of seven days after suffering the injury in a head-to-head collision with center fielder Byron Buxton. Buxton is making progress from his concussion, but he has yet to return to the lineup.

Correa and Buxton collided at the bottom of the third inning against the Baltimore Orioles, which would become the 11th win in the Twins’ recent 13-game winning streak. Brooks Lee stepped in at shortstop for Correa and went 3 of 19 in five games. DaShawn Keirsey Jr. has gotten most of the center field opportunities while Buxton has been dealing with his concussion.

Correa has been hitting .236/ .274/ .331 with two home runs in 41 games played. He has been unusually error-prone at the shortstop position despite being rated as a positive defender overall.

This start for Correa is unlike his play in the past as he hit .310/ .388/ .517 last year and put up a 3.7 WAR in only 86 games around injury last year. The problem for him is that he is starting to mount a lot of injuries on his resume.

Correa’s slow start is one of the reasons for the team’s 13-20 start.

But, on Thursday night, Correa delivered a clutch homer in 3-1 win against the Royals.
