Tom Brady Uses Rex Ryan’s Name As Play Call in Home Victory Over Buffalo Bills

New England Patriots Quarterback Tom Brady led his team to a 20-13 victory over the Buffalo Bills at the Patriots’ own Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, MA on Monday night, thus adding yet another win to the Pats’ undefeated record. This also marked the Bills’ 25th loss to the Patriots in 28 games.

Tom Brady Uses Rex Ryan’s Name As Play Call

Brady shouted out the name of Bills head coach Rex Ryan to use it as an audible play call on a first -and-ten attempt three minutes into the game. The Patriots QB completed 20 out of 39 passes for 277 yards, including one pass to running back James White, who scored the first touchdown of his career off a 20-yard pass. White scored another TD after a 6-yard run in the third quarter, effectively putting the Patriots ahead.

When asked about a possible story behind the call named after Ryan, Brady said, smiling: “We have a lot of unusual terms. I think we run the gamut. So we’ve got to get creative and think of different things. That one is pretty unique.” Ryan did not seem very concerned about any implied personal attack and even said, regarding Brady: “He likes me, I know that.”

The game was marked by a series of errors, from penalties to injuries and turnovers, including two fumbles-one from each team-on a single punt in the third quarter and even a missed 54-yard field goal by Patriots kicker Stephen Gostkowski, who had not missed a single field goal so far this season. This was Gostkowski’s first miss since Nov. 30, 2014, and his first miss at home since Week 2 of the 2013 season. The game also ended on a blunder by the officials, who signaled for the clock to keep running even after Bills receiver Sammy Watkins walked out of bounds. The referees committed many other sloppy mistakes, including an inadvertent whistle in the third that led to a very long discussion amongst the officials.

New England was also missing a key player: Danny Amendola, who became the Patriots’ No. 1 receiver after last week’s injury to Julian Edelman. Amendola was forced to leave the game after a knee injury in the third quarter.

QB Tyrod Taylor was 20-for-36 passing for 233 yards for the Bills. Stephen Gilmore picked Brady off, Brady’s fourth interception this year. The Patriots also failed to score in the fourth quarter, their second shut-out in a quarter since the very first one of the season.

The Patriots are now 10-0, while the Bills are 5-5. Next Sunday, the Patriots will play the Broncos in Denver, while the Bills will face the Chiefs in Kansas City.
