Threats against New York Islanders’ Nicky Leddy has resulted in a FBI investigation. A Twitter handle, which is now suspended, has been harassing the Isles’ defensemen over the last few months, posting pictures of Leddy, teammates and girlfriend’s of other players.
But most recently, the threats became violent, as the perpetrator posted pictures of Leddy’s Minnesota driver’s license and credit card, according to Newsday. Afterwards, the Islanders’ security director thought the threats were credible enough and, as a result, contacted the Nassau County police and FBI.
“We alerted local and federal authorities immediately, as well as the NHL,” a team spokesperson stated. “They’re investigating the matter. Nick and his family are safe.”
