Texas Tech Women’s Basketball Coach Marlene Stollings Fired After Reports Of Abuse

Following a scathing report by the Star Tribune detailing many players’ accounts of abuse in the Texas Tech women’s basketball program, coach Marlene Stollings has been fired after an investigation.

In the Tribune‘s report, there were many disturbing stories about abuse and ridicule suffered by the players from Stollings and her staff. “Allegations against Stollings are her staff includes sexual harassment by a strength and conditioning coach who has since resigned, foreign players, saying they were ridiculed and a player who said she was “admonished by coaches for displaying symptoms of depression,” the report said. One former Texas Tech player, Mia Castenada, who transferred to Washburn University in Kansas, told USA Today, “They were breaking not just athletes, they were breaking people. And they didn’t realize that.”

Stollings was hired by Minnesota in 2014 and coached the Gophers for four seasons until leaving for Texas Tech. She had been the women’s coach at Virginia Commonwealth, where she worked for athletic director Norwood Teague.
