TaylorMade Golf Announces Driving Relief Skins Match For Coronavirus Relief

TaylorMade, which is a manufacturer of golf equipment, is organizing a televised fundraiser for coronavirus relief, which is set to occur on May 17.

Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson, Rickie Fowler and Matthew Wolff will compete in a team skins game on May 17 at Seminole Golf Club in Juno Beach, Florida, with McIlroy and Johnson making up one team representing the American Nurses Foundation, and Fowler and Wolff making up the other, representing the CDC Foundation.

UntiedHealth Group has pledged $3 million in charity skins, while Farmers Insurance has pledged an additional $1 million for a birdies and eagles pool which would go to Off Their Plate, an organization that helps healthcare workers on the front lines during the pandemic. In addition, PGA Tour Charities is setting up a text-to-donate and online donation site to allow viewers to make additional donations.

“It’s been difficult to witness what so many are enduring over the last several weeks due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” McIlroy said in a statement.

He noted that he hopes that this allows fans around the globe an opportunity to take their mind off the craziness that has been the last few months.

PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan said, “We are excited about the safe and responsible return of live golf and the opportunity to raise significant funds for those on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The event is the first live televised sporting event in golf since the sport was shut down following round one of The Players Championship back on March 12. It will air on NBC, GolfChannel, NBCSN and SkySports.
