After 17 months of negotiations, the WNBA has reached a new labor agreement.

The WNBA has seen unprecedented growth the past couple of seasons. The players wanted several key reforms to the league and were willing to strike to get their demands.

There were several changes to the WNBA’s salary rules. The minimum salary is expected to be $300,000 next offseason, a supermax contract will give players $1.4 million and the salary cap will be $7 million. All of these figures are massive increases.

One of the biggest issues the players union had was with WNBA revenue-sharing rules. The WNBA had its revenue sharing percentage set at 9% in 2025. This was a decrease over the 2019 figure, which was 12%. In the NBA, players receive 50% of revenue shares. The WNBA figure after the negotiations is still far below that, but the new 20% mark is still a big increase over the WNBA’s previous percentage. Overall, the new deal has been well received by WNBA players.

“This deal is going to be transformational,” Breanna Stewart said. “It’s going to build and help create a system where everybody is getting exactly what they deserve and more, from on the court and off the court aspects. Just excited that we can tell our fans that we’re going to be back.”

Although the season was still a ways away, there were worries that the labor negotiations could interfere with the expansion draft. The Portland Fire and Toronto Tempo will join the league this offseason. The expansion draft is scheduled from April 1-6. As of now, the labor negotiations have not caused any schedule changes for the WNBA.

The WNBA regular season is scheduled to start on May 8. The first game of the season will be the Connecticut Sun taking on the New York Liberty.

Caitlin Clark has become the face of the new era in the WBNA, and now, she’s Nike’s newest signature athlete.

The company announced the partnership with Clark this summer, revealing the new logo for the signature collection. Clark will launch an apparel line and a signature shoe featuring her logo, with two interlocking Cs representing her name.

“Nike’s signature roster features all-time greats, and I am incredibly proud to join some of the best athletes in the world,” Clark said in the Nike press release. “I’m excited to share a first look at what we’ve started to create together.”

Only a few current WNBA players have signature collections with Nike, including A’ja Wilson and Sabrina Ionescu.

Debuting in 2023, Ionescu’s signature shoe had a major presence on WNBA and NBA courts. The unisex shoe collection was the first collaboration with a WNBA player since the 90s. Nike released the Nike A’One last May, Wilson’s first-ever signature shoe, which generated significant buzz on social media for its ad campaigns and bright pink colorway.

It was only a matter of time before Clark joined the elite group of signature athletes and collaborated with Nike for her own signature shoe.

At the University of Iowa, Clark had a record-breaking career as one of the most prolific scorers in NCAA Division I history. Clark set the record with 3,951 career points in her 4-year career, beating the record of 3,667 set by Pete Maravich in the late 60s.

Indiana selected Clark as the first overall pick in the 2024 WNBA draft, setting the stage for a standout career. In her first year with the Indiana Fever, Clark was named the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year. She received 66 out of 67 votes for the prestigious honor.

“To me, this is more than just a logo; it’s a dream come true,” Clark said. “People always talk about leaving your mark on the game – and this is another way I can do that.”

Clark’s apparel line launched last month, and the signature shoe is scheduled for 2026.

Indiana Fever star point guard Caitlin Clark announced on social media that she will miss the remainder of the 2025 WNBA season.

Clark, 23, has been nursing a groin injury since mid-July. The 2024 No. 1 pick suffered the injury in the final moments of the Fever’s win against the Connecticut Sun, missing the WNBA All-Star Game and appearing in just 13 regular season games.

“I spent hours in the gym every day with the singular goal of getting back out there, disappointed isn’t a big enough word to describe how I am feeling,” Clark said on Thursday. “I want to thank everyone who had my back through all the uncertainty. This has been incredibly frustrating, but even in the bad, there is good.”

The Fever sit third in the Eastern conference with a 21-20 record with three games remaining. Clark was averaging 16.5 points and 8.8 assists per game before her injury in July.

Despite the setback, the two-time All-Star showed respect to the fans and hopes the Fever can make a run in the upcoming playoffs.

“The way the fans continued to show up for me, and for the Fever, brought me so much joy and important perspective,” she wrote. “I am so proud of how this team has only gotten stronger through the adversity this year. Now it’s time to close out the season and claim our spot in the Playoffs.”

The Fever also put out a press release regarding the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year’s status. The statement said Clark, in addition to the groin injury, suffered a bone bruise while recovering.

“Caitlin has worked so hard throughout this time, doing everything possible to recover and return to the court but, ultimately, time is not on our side,” Fever COO and general manager Amber Cox said in the statement. “While we will continue working with Caitlin and provide her with every resource we have available, there is not enough time left in our season for her to safely return, and her long-term health and well-being remains our top priority.”

The Fever will host the Chicago Sky on Friday before visiting the Washington Mystics on Sunday. The final regular season game will be hosted on Tuesday against the league-leaders Minnesota Lynx.

As an epidemic of fans throwing adult objects onto the court rocks the WNBA, a second alleged prankster has been arrested.

Kaden Lopez, 18, is facing charges after allegedly chucking an object during the Phoenix Mercury’s 82-66 home win over the Connecticut Sun on Tuesday. The object is said to have struck a man watching the game with his nine-year-old niece.

Court documents viewed by FOX 10 stated that the male victim said that he and his niece had been watching the action, “When something hit his back, then fell to the ground next to him.”

Police charged Lopez with assault, disorderly conduct and public display of explicit sexual material, according to court documents.

The incident was captured on video, and an arena volunteer witnessed it before following Lopez, tackling him to prevent him from leaving and waiting for authorities to arrive.

Lopez’s alleged prank is thought to be the fifth instance in the last 10 days of an individual throwing an adult object at a WNBA game. The first arrest, of 23-year-old Delbert Carver, was made Saturday after he allegedly threw an adult object on July 29 during the Atlanta Dream’s game against the Golden State Valkyries.

The incident in Los Angeles on Tuesday garnered plenty of attention after the sex toy nearly struck Indiana Fever forward Sophie Cunningham, and Sparks guard Kelsey Plum quickly kicked the item off the floor.

At Barclays Center, a sex toy was thrown, but it did not reach the court, and the same happened with the incident in Phoenix.

“The safety and well-being of everyone in our arenas is a top priority for our league,” the WNBA said in a recent statement. “Objects of any kind thrown onto the court or in the seating arena can pose a safety risk for players, game officials, and fans. In line with WNBA Arena Security Standards, any fan who intentionally throws an object onto the court will be immediately ejected and face a minimum one-year ban in addition to being subject to arrest and prosecution by local authorities.”

Lopez apologized and called the alleged incident a “stupid prank that was trending on social media.”

A sex toy landed near Indiana Fever’s Sophie Cunningham after it was thrown from the stands in Los Angeles while the Fever played the Sparks on Tuesday night, the latest such incident to interrupt a WNBA game in the past seven days.

The incident at Crypto.com Arena occurred with 2:05 left in the second quarter, with the green object landing in the lane near Cunningham, who had been vocal on social media about fans throwing the toys onto the court. The Fever forward jumped back in surprise, and then Kelsey Plum kicked the object in the stands.

“I think it’s ridiculous, it’s dumb, it’s stupid,” Sparks coach Lynne Roberts said after her team’s 100-91 win. “It’s also dangerous, and players’ safety is No. 1. Respecting the game. All of those things. I think it’s really stupid.”

Plum added that she thought both teams did a great job “playing on, don’t give it any attention. The refs too, I really appreciate them too, was just like, ‘Hey, let’s go.'”

Cunningham walked over to the Sparks bench and was laughing about it.

“We don’t know who those people are … we come to play the game and people want to see us play,” Fever coach Stephanie White said when asked about the disruption. “I think it’s just that simple, and we can’t control everybody’s actions.”

According to social media posts, green toys were also thrown in Phoenix and New York on Tuesday night but didn’t reach the court. The one at Barclays Center landed near a child.

A week ago, the first incident occurred in Atlanta late in the fourth quarter of the Dream’s game against Golden State in College Park, Georgia. The man alleged to have been responsible for the incident, Delbert Carver, was arrested Saturday, according to police in College Park. He faces counts of disorderly conduct, public indecency/indecent exposure and criminal trespass, according to law enforcement records.

Tuesday’s WNBA game between the Atlanta Dream and Golden State Valkyries came to a stop when a neon green sex toy was launched onto the court in the game’s final minute.

With 42.5 seconds remaining and the score tied at 75, Atlanta guard Maya Caldwell stuffed a three-point attempt from Tiffany Hayes. The crowd roared, but not in the same way as the Crypto.com Arena for Cameron Brink’s return. Confusion quickly followed as referees Charles Watson and Angel Kent blew the whistle and stopped the action.

Cameras zoomed in, revealing an object that nobody expected, which turned out to be a bright green adult toy lying near the sideline. “That is a first,” one stunned broadcaster said, as game footage showed the object bouncing across the hardwood mid-play.

“We don’t play that. There’s no room for that, ever,” said the commentary team.

This is just the latest odd fan moment in the WNBA, a day after a spectator heckled the Phoenix Mercury’s Kahleah Copper after her wig fell off against the Washington Mystics.

Play-by-play commentary described the object as something green that was launched, uncertain of origin, but noted the object remained underneath a seat as the game was not initially stopped.

Security swarmed the section of the Gateway Center where the item originated, with 3,265 fans in attendance witnessing the disruption. The commentary team urged security to find the source of the offensive gesture and immediately remove them from the arena.

Replay footage showed the object descending from the sky onto the court, bouncing on impact from the foul line, and skidding toward the sideline. Cameras also caught Jordin Canada’s shocked reaction after witnessing what happened.

“The most important thing when you come to see your favorite W players take the floor is keeping them safe,” said an announcer team member.

Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark sent a classy message to Red Panda, the stage name for acrobat Rong Niu, following the high-wire act’s scary fall during halftime of the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup championship game.

Niu fell on her left wrist after hitting the floor with her unicycle early during her legendary routine at Target Center in Minneapolis. She was helped off the court with assistance from a wheelchair after a tumble from her seven-foot unicycle. Employees witnessed Niu being taken away in an ambulance, according to The Athletic.

“Red Panda, we love you,” Clark said during Sydney Colson’s Instagram Live video. “Red Panda, if you’re watching, we love you.”

The 55-year-old ‘Red Panda’ has performed at professional and college sporting events since 1993.

The Fever beat the Minnesota Lynx, 74-59, to take the Cup title. The Fever coach, Stephanie White, said after the game that her team was unaware of the halftime injury to Red Panda prior to the postseason celebration.

That’s when word spread of the unfortunate incident at midcourt. Clark did not play in the game due to a groin injury. Clark, who has not played since June 24, had participated in practice in the lead-up to the game, but White told reporters this week that Indiana was being cautious with her recovery.

“Making sure we don’t have any setbacks, we got to be smart about this,” White said.

Clark spoke to reporters after Sunday’s practice and said at the time, she was “day-by-day” with the groin situation.

“Doing everything I can to put myself in a position to play the next game every single time,” Clark said. “That’s always my goal is to be available for the next game. Doing everything I can with the medical staff to be able to get my body right to be able to do that. But yeah, I can feel good and just going day-by-day.”

Angel Reese has had an up-and-down second WNBA season so far, but over the last few weeks, she has made one thing abundantly clear: No one dominates the boards like her.

Reese has collected between 16 and 19 rebounds in each of the Chicago Sky’s last five games, dating back to June 22. Her most recent performance – a 16-point, 17-rebound effort in an 80-75 loss to the Minnesota Lynx – made her the first player in WNBA history to haul in 15 or more rebounds in five consecutive games. That extends the record she set with her fourth 15+ rebound game against the Los Angeles Sparks on June 29.

Reese had her best game of the season in that 92-85 win over the Sparks, with a season-high 24 points as well as 16 rebounds and seven assists.

Before Sunday’s game against the Lynx, Reese showed up wearing her “Mebound” t-shirt. What started as criticism from podcaster B Hen on Jeff Teague’s Club 520 Podcast has become Reese’s personal brand and business venture.

The term “Mebound” was meant to mock her rebounding style, suggesting she only grabbed rebounds that came directly to her. Instead of getting defensive, Reese trademarked the phrase and launched an entire merchandise line.

Her product line launched at the end of June with t-shirts, hats, beanies, hoodies and slides. The proceeds support cyberbullying prevention through The Angel C. Reese Foundation, turning negative commentary into positive social impact.

Reese is averaging 17 points, 17.4 rebounds and five assists during the run, all well above her season averages of 12.4 points, 12.6 rebounds and 3.8 assists. She is the only player in the WNBA averaging double-digit boards, well clear of A’ja Wilson’s 9.6 per game.

Wins remain tough to come by for 5-12 Chicago, but Reese has come along as an all-around player as the season has progressed and was selected to her second consecutive All-Star Game as she continues to dominate the glass.

Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark is just a few games into her second season in the WNBA. She also now holds the league record for most career games with 25 points and 10 assists.

Clark dropped 27 points and 11 assists on the Atlanta Dream last week as the Fever lost 90-91. That was her sixth career game with at least 25 points and 10 assists, out of 42 total games played. She passed New York Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu, who is playing her sixth season in the WNBA, for the record.

Clark makes it look easy. But in the time between her first 25/10 game and her sixth, only one other WNBA player logged even one: Odyssey Sims, who logged 26 points and 10 assists for the Los Angeles Sparks against the Dallas Wings last season.

It’s not the first record Clark has broken, and it won’t be the last. She also set a record with 42 consecutive games with a three-pointer made to begin her career, which finally ended as the Fever played the Dream a second time. Clark went 0 for 5 from three-point range, ending with 11 points.

But, as Clark has made clear, she’s focusing on improving as a player and winning, not on records. And the Fever were able to pull through on the back of a huge 26-point game from veteran Natasha Howard, bringing them up to 2-1 on the season.

With 43 games into her career, you can be fairly sure that watching Clark, she’ll set many records that may never be broken. It only feels like a matter of time.

The WNBA said that they are investigating allegations of “hateful fan comments” directed toward Chicago Sky star Angel Reese during Saturday’s game between the Sky and Indiana Fever.

In the third quarter, an incident involving Reese and Caitlin Clark, in which Clark slapped the ball out of Reese’s hands in the post, sparked a feud between the two teams. Fever forward Aliyah Boston and Reese were assessed technical fouls, while Clark was assessed a flagrant one foul.

“The WNBA strongly condemns racism, hate, and discrimination in all forms – they have no place in our league or in society,” the league said in a statement.

The Indiana Fever defeated the Chicago Sky 93-58. Throughout the course of the game, Reese was loudly booed by fans. During foul shots, the volume greatly increased.

Reese didn’t have much to say about the incident.

“Basketball play. The refs got it right, move on,” Reese said.

The Women’s National Basketball Players Association said it was “aware of reports of hateful comments” and supports the league’s decision to investigate.

The Fever is aware of the league’s investigation and they are cooperating.

Clark finished the game with a triple-double, the third of her WNBA career. She finished with 20 points, ten rebounds and ten assists.

Chicago Sky star Angel Reese took to social media to celebrate her latest achievement: buying a home.

The reveal comes months after she noted that her WNBA salary wouldn’t even pay her rent. “I just hope y’all know, the WNBA don’t pay my bills at all,” Reese said in October. “I don’t even think that pays one of my bills. Literally.”

Reese’s complaints about WNBA salaries aren’t unfounded. She and phenom Caitlin Clark are both making about $80,000 this season, and the highest possible salary in the WNBA is just over $250,000. By contrast, NBA rookies can make up to around $12 million, and the highest AAV deal in the NBA is nearly $63 million. That’s a world of difference.

While many players continue to push for higher salaries, they make their living in other ways playing in foreign leagues, the upstart three-on-three league Unrivaled, or through brand deals and sponsorships. Reese, for instance, made a $50,000 bonus just for winning the Unrivaled championship. That bonus was more than 50% of Reese’s regular WNBA salary.

For Reese, who has quickly become an internet personality, sponsorship makes up a big part of her income. She recently released a sportswear collection with Reebok, and has partnered with companies including Wingstop, McDonald’s, Amazon and Coach.

Being vocal about the salary disparity is, says Reese, what will get it addressed. But as WNBA salaries continue to lag behind even the league’s profits, players like Reese often have to be multitalented and good at selling themselves to make a comfortable living.

“They ain’t got the money for us just yet, but it’s coming,” Reese said on a recent episode of her podcast, Unapologetically Angel. “It’s coming. It’s a lot that goes into it. But it’s coming. Trust me, it’s coming.”

After UConn women’s basketball superstar Paige Bueckers became a Dallas Wing, some of Dallas’ biggest stars welcomed her to town.

Bueckers, considered one of the brightest young basketball stars, led UConn to the national championship just eight days before the Draft. However, the pick had been anticipated since November, when the Wings beat the odds to win the WNBA’s first overall pick in the draft lottery.

Bueckers has been a unanimous first-team All-American three times. She won the Wade Trophy in 2025, presented to the best upperclass women’s basketball player in the NCAA, and, with 19.9 points per game, she holds the highest scoring average in UConn history. Bueckers isn’t just good she’s potentially generationally good. And Dallas is ready.

Every team in the metroplex, from the Cowboys to the Stars to FC Dallas, welcomed Bueckers to DFW in social media posts.

The Cowboys and the Mavericks each had video messages from players as well. Cowboys stars Dak Prescott and Micah Parsons represented their team, while Anthony Davis and Bueckers’ childhood favorite player Kyrie Irving spoke for the Mavs.

“Congratulations on being the No. 1 pick,” said Parsons. “Super extraordinary feat. Aye, I need a jersey. Can’t wait to see you and Arike [Ogunbowale] ball out. I think y’all about to change it around. Let’s go.”

“I just wanted to take the time out to congratulate you on being drafted, especially to the Dallas Wings,” said Irving. “I’m so excited for your journey ahead…So happy and proud of you…the way you carried yourself throughout all of your obstacles and challenges, and more so proud that you were able to turn the page on the chapters of this story that you’re writing.”

Irving’s message was a heartfelt one, and referenced an obstacle Bueckers’ ACL tear, which sidelined her for the entire 2022-23 season that he can certainly relate to. Irving’s season ended prematurely when he tore his ACL in early March.

For a city that’s still hurting in the aftermath of the Luka Doncic trade, Bueckers is a breath of fresh air. While they’re still one year off finishing second-to-last in the WNBA, one thing’s for sure: the Dallas Wings will be fun this season.

Caitlin Clark, the 23-year-old phenom coming out of the University of Iowa, has brought the hype with her to her first season in the WNBA.

Yes, she’s averaged 19.2 points, 8.4 assists and 5.7 rebounds for the Indiana Fever, winning rookie of the year cleanly and finishing fourth in MVP voting. But bigger than that is her brand – the brand that, according to a study done by an economist at Indiana University Columbus, has had $36 million of economic impact on the city of Indianapolis and drove nearly 27% of the league’s total revenue.

WNBA contracts, which are collectively bargained, range from $64,154 to $241,984. Clark’s salary for the 2025 season? Likely just over $78,000.

“Will Caitlin Clark ever be paid by the WNBA what she’s really worth to that league? I don’t think that’s possible,” her agent, Erin Kane, told ESPN.

“She’s part of a larger player body. They all need to be paid more. She should be recognized for what she has done and what she’s brought to the league from an economic standpoint. It’s as simple as that.”

With Clark’s rise to stardom and other ventures such as the three-on-three women’s basketball league Unrivaled, though, salaries should be on the rise. Unrivaled, which features players like Kelsey Plum, Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier, pays its players an average salary of $200,000 – a number distinctly higher than the average WNBA salary, and one it will be looking to replicate with the help of its bump in popularity.

One of the most notable consequences of the WNBA revival has been its new media deal. Signed last year, the deal extends 11 years for about $200 million a year. That’s a $140 million jump from its current deal. And that’s not even to mention the expansion teams already named – the Toronto Tempo and Golden State Valkyries – with announcements of Portland and Cleveland teams on the way.

“The most important thing,” Kane said, “Always has been getting WNBA players paid for what they do on the court.”

Kane seems to be getting her wish. But change is slow, and it’s unlikely that Caitlin Clark or her contemporaries will ever reap the full fruits of their labor during their tenures in the league.

Caitlin Clark reportedly turned down an offer to appear in Unrivaled last week, a new three-on-three women’s basketball league. Even without Clark, however, founders Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier have managed to prepare the star-studded league for a promising debut in January.

Unrivaled has already announced its roster of 34 players, leaving two “Wild Card” spots unfilled. The league will feature six teams of six players and host games in Miami for nine weeks from January to March.

Because of the addition of the Wild Card spots, as well as Indiana Fever star Aliyah Boston’s commitment to play, some speculated that Clark might be swayed into competing. After completing an extremely busy 2024 slate, in which she competed in her final NCAA Tournament before leading the Fever to the WNBA Playoffs, it seems that Clark is taking time to rest before next season. Unrivaled officials said that they would leave an open invitation for Clark, however, which could allow her to change her mind in the near future.

While Clark may be absent from the six-team league, Stewart and Collier can still boast a staggering number of talented players suiting up for Unrivaled’s inaugural season. Kelsey Plum, Brittney Griner, Courtney Vandersloot and Angel Reese have all been rostered, along with many other WNBA players. UConn star and presumptive first-overall pick Paige Bueckers has already signed an NIL deal with the league and is scheduled to make her debut in 2026.

Stewart and Collier have had a busy year organizing Unrivaled, which aims to raise the standards for women’s basketball while capitalizing on the sport’s growing presence in the media landscape. Players in the league are set to earn record-breaking salaries, including an unprecedented six-figure guarantee and prize money for winning a mid-season tournament. Players participating in the first season will also receive temporary equity in the organization.

Countless celebrity investors have taken part in a massive fundraising effort, and the league has recruited a number of industry insiders to secure broadcasting rights with TNT and TruTV, as well as a streaming deal with Max.

Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever were eliminated from the playoffs Wednesday night, as the Connecticut Sun rallied to win 87-81 and complete a two-game sweep. The Sun struggled to contain Clark, who scored 25 points in the contest, but the veteran-led Connecticut team outclassed the younger Indiana roster.

In many ways, the Sun served as the bar for the Fever throughout the season, as matchups between the two teams effectively marked Indiana’s improvement. The Fever lost its first game of the 2024 season to the Sun in a 92-71 blowout and fell to the veterans again less than a week later. Connecticut dominated Clark and company again in June, while the team was still finding it way.

In late August, Indiana was in the midst of a torrid, surprising playoff push when the team finally defeated the Sun 84-80. It was a clear indication that Clark had arrived in the WNBA. She and Aliyah Boston, with less than three years of professional experience between them, took over down the stretch and got the Fever into the playoffs despite a 1-8 start.

“I’m a tough grader. I feel like I had a solid year,” Clark said Wednesday. “For me, the fun part is like I feel like I’m just scratching the surface, and I’m the one that’s nitpicking every single thing I do. I know I want to help this franchise. … I know there’s a lot of room for me to continue to improve, so that’s what excites me the most. I feel like I continue to get a lot better.”

Despite beating Connecticut late in the regular season, the Fever still figured as heavy underdogs in the first round. In Game 1, 37-year-old Sun forward DeWanna Bonner took the assignment to defend Clark for the first time, holding the rookie to just 11 points. Connecticut won in a 93-69 drubbing.

In Game 2 Wednesday, Clark and Boston found more opportunities and kept pace with the Sun’s more experienced starters. Clark added nine assists and six rebounds to her 25-point night, while Boston dominated in the paint, earning 19 rebounds in a commanding double-double. Guard Kelsey Mitchell, 28, also chipped in with 17 points, but it wasn’t enough. Every single player on the Sun roster scored at least eight points in an incredibly well-rounded showing.

Clark’s first playoff experience in the WNBA garnered eye-dropping ticket sales and record-breaking ratings, but her defeat on this massive stage was not a failure. The Sun players were far more experienced and have been building toward a championship for several years. Clark joined Boston on the Fever less than six months ago, at which point the team was coming off a 13-27 season.

After a few middling weeks at the start of her WNBA career, Clark has lived up to her billing in every sense imaginable. It would take less effort to list the rookie records she didn’t attain in 2024. She is a blindingly bright catalyst on a once-stagnant team. She was a mortal lock to win Rookie of the Year honors. Most important to remember — she’s just getting started.

Caitlin Clark has taken the WNBA by storm since the rookie’s snub from the U.S.A. women’s basketball team. The Fever have won their last five and are 8-2 in their last ten, rocketing up the standings and clinching their first playoff appearance since 2016.

Clark became the first rookie in WNBA history to record 12 double-doubles in a season on Sunday, dropping 28 points to go along with 12 assists to increase her per-game average to 18.7 PPG and 8.4 APG. She racked up a triple-double Wednesday night for an encore, the second of her career, and became the first player in WNBA history to hit 100 threes, accomplishing the feat in just her 34th game.

Earlier Wednesday, the WNBA announced that Clark won both Rookie and Player of the Month in August.

After the game, Clark stayed humble like usual, even as she exceeded the hype with which she entered the league.

“These are games you really need to win at home. The more we can win, the better we can position ourselves for the playoffs. These fans spend a lot of money to come here and watch us and have fun with us. So, you want to kind of give them a show every time we’re in here.”

Indiana Fever head coach Christie Sides echoed a similar sentiment about her budding star.

“Every game she gets a little better, every game she gets a little bit [more] understanding of the speed and the quickness. I love the conversations with her about the game. She’s playing really well … she had some amazing assists tonight.”

Six games remain in the Indiana Fever’s regular season before their attention shifts to the playoffs. Up next, a battle with the 24-9 Minnesota Lynx at home.

After her incredible August, oddsmakers set Clark’s odds to win Rookie of the Year at -5000, and many expect it will be unanimous.

Indiana Fever phenom Caitlin Clark broke the WNBA record for rookie three-pointers made Wednesday night, sinking her 86th basket from beyond the arc in an upset 84-80 win over the Connecticut Sun.

At this point in Clark’s rookie season, it is now abundantly clear that she is developing into a superstar in the sport. Less than six months removed from leading Iowa to the NCAA national championship game in college, she is already leading a rebuilding Fever team to massive victories over more established foes like Connecticut.

The Sun, who currently hold a 22-8 record, figure as a championship contender in the upcoming postseason. Connecticut was one of the teams that flummoxed Clark and the Fever in an 0-5 start to the season. In fact, the Sun hadn’t lost to the Fever since 2021. But in a gritty back-forth contest, the young star and her teammates proved that they have gradually found their way.

Clark finished her record-setting night against the Sun with 19 points, five assists and five rebounds. She has now scored 17 or more points in 10 straight games, correlating directly to an improved stretch for the Fever as a unit. Since WNBA action resumed earlier this month, the team has won four of five games.

“The maturity and the toughness that my players showed tonight was just incredible,” Fever coach Christie Sides said after the win Wednesday night. “We’re watching them grow up, from where we started to where we are now. Connecticut is an incredible team. I’m so proud of these players.”

With a 15-16 record through 31 games, Indiana isn’t going to win the WNBA Championship any time soon, though Clark’s play alongside second-year star Aliyah Boston is putting the team ahead of schedule. From an individual standpoint, however, Clark’s statistics at this point in the 2024 season befit a future league leader.

In addition to earning the most three-pointers by a rookie in WNBA history, she also leads the entire league in assists with 252. Combining these two stats with her prolific scoring, she is the first player to have more than 500 points, 250 assists and 75 three-pointers in their rookie year. There are still nine games remaining in the regular season.

Barstool Sports owner Dave Portnoy took to Twitter to disparage Angel Reese’s play during her 22-rebound performance in a loss to the Las Vegas Aces. Portnoy posted multiple clips of Reese’s lowlights, such as a missed three-point attempt and the rookie missing numerous times at the rim as she battled inside for position.

After the loss, Reese responded on Twitter, “If it was easy, everybody would be doing it. we good! #skytown.”

Reese made history in the defeat, becoming the first rookie to secure 20 or more rebounds in three straight games, even as the Chicago Sky battle for playoff contention. The former LSU star played 37 minutes and scored 11 points in the loss. The Sky fought back from 13 down in the fourth quarter, but MVP favorite A’ja Wilson‘s last-second lay-up ended the comeback short.

Portnoy has not been shy about his support of Caitlin Clark, the first pick in the 2024 WNBA draft and who many in the media believe has a budding rivalry with Reese from their college days. The Barstool owner live-tweeted multiple games of the Indiana Fever this season and still has not moved on from the U.S.A. women’s team, leaving Clark off the roster even after going undefeated en route to a gold medal in Paris.

While Clark and Reese are 1-2 in the Rookie of the Year voting, oddsmakers do not think the competition is close. Clark is -5000 to take home the trophy, while Reese sits at +1500.

Clark’s Fever is scorching hot coming back from the Olympic break. On Monday, they beat the Atlanta Dream 84-79 on the road, securing their third victory in four games and improving their record to 14-16. Clark finished with a below-average shooting performance but still contributed 19 points, seven assists and seven rebounds.

Meanwhile, the Sky are 11-18 and are looking to snap their losing streak on Wednesday at home against the league-worst Washington Mystics.

With the break from the Olympics over, Caitlin Clark found herself back in the spotlight and answering questions about her off-season plans.

WNBA stars Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier are creating a new women’s 3×3 basketball league called Unrivavled for women’s players to stay in the United States during the off-season. Most WNBA players work out overseas and join leagues across the pond to stay in shape during the break. Even though WNBA stars have already opted into joining the league, Clark kept her cards close to the vest when asked if she would partake.

“Honestly, I’m just focused on this right now,” she said. “One thing at a time. Can’t always just be moving on to the next. My focus is right here.”

The Indiana Fever will need Clark at her best as the season resumes as they sit outside a playoff spot and she delivered in their first game back on Friday.

Clark shined with a 29-point, ten-assist double-double, defeating the Phoenix Mercury 98-89. She outdueled the duo of Brittney Griner and Diana Taurasi for a much-needed victory that the Fever hope can jump-start the back half of their season. They currently sit outside the playoff picture.

Clark’s masterclass comes after the U.S.A. women’s team took gold in Paris. She downplayed the controversy for not being selected. Still, her incredible numbers during her rookie season prove the exclusion may have been an oversight, even with the undefeated record of Dawn Staley’s team.

Clark currently leads her team in minutes played, points averaged per game and assists. The Fever will be on national TV on ABC Sunday as they take on the Seattle Storm in a showdown with Nneka Ogwumike.

The U.S. women’s team won six consecutive games in France and defeated the host nation 67-66 in the gold medal match. They have won 61 straight games dating back to 1992.

Head coach of the Team USA women’s basketball team, Cheryl Reeve, has observed a shift in the landscape of women’s basketball globally. With the increasing popularity of college basketball and the WNBA, Reeve believes that this enthusiasm will inevitably spill over to international competitions.

“It seems inevitable that USA basketball would benefit from the hype of the college season,” Reeve told uSports in May. “The WNBA is going to experience that sort of spillover of enthusiasm. And so, it’s inevitable that if you’re watching the WNBA, when we break for the Olympics, you’re going to want to watch those very players that you just saw competing in the W on the world stage.”

This surge in interest is not just confined to the United States. Reeve notes that the level of competition has become more intense, with no guarantees of easy victories for Team USA. “I don’t think there’s any forgone conclusion about our competition. I think maybe in years past, it was about how badly a team could beat another team. But there’s no forgone conclusion; this is going to be a challenge. And I think people will be very interested,” she said.

The growth of women’s basketball worldwide has been remarkable, with more countries investing in their women’s teams and the sport gaining traction in regions previously less engaged. This global expansion has led to a more competitive environment, elevating the quality of play and drawing in new fans.
