Wayne Rooney is set to reject West Ham to make a giant return to Everton, his childhood club, on a fee transfer.

Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney May Sign Transfer Fee to Former Club Everton

The Everton Toffees have been the frontrunners in the scramble to sign Rooney for quite some time, with manager Ronald Koeman explicitly citing his interest in the 31-year-old Manchester United and England striker and captain.

According to The Independent, Everton is the veteran forward’s top choice for a new team.

Koeman may be able to negotiate a waived transfer fee but would need to approach the striker’s £300,000 ($374,000) a week wages.

United are also reportedly interested in signing Everton’s 23-year-old Belgian forward Romelu Lukaku. 

Lukaku is allegedly not interested in a contract extension at Goodison Park, and is expected to leave the club this summer.

Rooney left Goodison Park for Old Trafford 13 years ago at the age of 18 in a £25.6m transfer, after making 77 appearances with the Merseyside-based club.

Since then, Rooney has become both United and England’s record goal-scorer.
