Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has dismissed reports that he could be sold by the team this summer.

With his contract set to expire at the end of the 2017-2018 season, the 28-year-old German star has been linked with a move away from the Gunners. John Cross of the Daily Mirror recently reported that Ozil and Arsenal teammate Alexis Sanchez, the team’s star Chilean forward, could be sold in the upcoming window.

Speaking to Die Welt (h/t Lyall Thomas of Sky Sports) about a potential departure, Ozil said he doubted manager Arsene Wenger would sell him, adding, “Do you think Arsene Wenger tells the journalists [about my future] before he tells me?” he said. “I know him differently.”

Wenger’s own deal with Arsenal expires at the end of this season, and who knows whether the 67-year-old Frenchman will ultimately decided to keep Ozil or not.

Ozil insisted he believes he can still find success with Arsenal.

“I have a contract until 2018 in London and I feel very comfortable there,” he added. “We’ll talk soon and then make a decision. My dream is to win the Champions League. Why not with Arsenal? Of course, we just have a difficult time and are not satisfied with sixth place. I am convinced, however, that we will catch up again soon. Let’s see what the future holds.”

Ozil returned from injury for Germany on Sunday in a 4-1 2018 World Cup qualifying win over Azerbaijan, and is expected to be back in the Starting XI when Manchester City visit the Gunners this Sunday.

Meanwhile, former Arsenal star Thierry Henry has stated he doesn’t know whether he is prepared to succeed Wenger as manager. The 39-year-old Frenchman, who is Arsenal’s all-time leading goalscorer, said this subject is not one he’s comfortable discussing.

“It doesn’t depend on me,” Henry told French TV station Canal Plus. He continued: “There are things to be respected. It’s my club of heart, but I do not have any right. My name is quoted to succeed Wenger. I hear that. But it’s hard for me to talk about it. I have a lot of respect for everything the coach has done. Am I ready? I don’t know and nobody knows, but I also need to learn my job.

Henry is an assistant manager for Belgium’s national team, and is working under Roberto Martinez.

Henry scored 228 goals during his eight-year tenure with Arsenal, from 1999 to 2007.

Since his retirement in 2014, Henry has assumed a role as a pundit on Sky Sports, and he was recently critical of the Arsenal team following their 3-1 loss to West Bromwich Albion.

The 39-year-old former Arsenal striker and France international was confirmed as manager Roberto Martinez’s new assistant on Friday afternoon.

Since retiring from the sport in 2014– having last played for the New York Red Bulls– Henry has worked as a pundit for Sky Sports, thus combining his television career with his UEFA coaching course.

He had previously been working as a coach at Arsenal, although he left the role earlier this year after manager Arsene Wenger expressed concerns over his broadcasting commitments.

Now, the former France national team superstar has already had an impact on some of Belgium’s top players.

Forward Michy Batshuayi, who joined Chelsea earlier this summer in a £30m deal, hailed the impact of Arsenal’s all-time leading goalscorer.

“Not sure I ever listened to my parents like this,” the 22-year-old tweeted, with the hashtag ‘#LearnFromTheBest.’

Belgium face Spain in an international friendly on Thursday before beginning their World Cup qualification campaign against Cyprus on Tuesday.

Henry played a strong role in the Red Devils’ training session, running drills and giving Belgian players, including Eden Hazard and Romelu Lukaku, several one-on-one tutorials.

Belgium are currently second in the FIFA world rankings.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Henry revealed he was unable to resist the offer from Martinez, a Spaniard who formerly managed Premier League club Everton.

“Being able to be part of Belgium and working with Roberto Martinez, who has been in the game a very long time, and learn under him is going to be key for me,” said Henry. “Let’s see how far we go but yes, eventually, if you work well and you go through the right process then maybe one day, why not (I’ll become a manager).

“You need to understand you can do it. The team has the quality to do it. We all know how hard it is to make a team be a team but that is the aim.”

Henry also plans to donate his salary from his role as Belgium’s assistant coach to charity, according to Sport/Foot Magazine.

Sport/Foot Magazine reported on Wednesday that the Frenchman will hand over his annual salary for the role, thought to be around €50,000, ($55,800) to charity organizations in Belgium.

The magazine states Henry made the decision for two reasons: Firstly, he is already guaranteed a reported £4 million ($5.25 million) per year through his long-term contract with Sky Sports. Secondly, he is grateful for the opportunity to work with the team ranked No. 2 in the world despite having earned little coaching experience thus far.
