The Atlanta Hawks and Los Angeles Clippers have finalized a trade that will send Bogdan Bogdanovic and three-second round picks to L.A. in exchange for Terance Mann and Bones Hyland.

Bogdanovic spent his first three years in the league with the Sacramento Kings before signing with the Hawks ahead of the 2020-21 season, where he contributed to a deep playoff run that fell just two wins short of the NBA Finals. During Atlanta’s playoff run he turned in a career year, averaging 16.4 points per game and hitting a career-high 44% from three.

In March 2023 Bogdanovic inked a four-year, $68 million extension, with two seasons left on his current deal and a team option for 2026-27. He is set to earn $16 million next season, and if his team option is exercised, he will make another $16 million in the 2026-27 season.

Throughout his Hawks tenure, Bogdanovic averaged 15.1 points on 44% shooting and 38% from three. He earned a sixth-place finish in the Sixth Man of the Year voting in 2021-22 and moved up to fifth in 2023-24.

He had been a reliable scorer for four seasons in Atlanta, but this year, his shooting numbers fell to a career-low 37% from the field and 30% from three. As the Hawks focused on Trae Young, Jalen Johnson, Dyson Daniels and Zaccharie Risacher, Bogdanovic no longer fit their long-term plans. He has not played since the Hawks’ Jan. 25 loss to the Toronto Raptors.

After signing a three-year, $47 million extension last summer, Mann is set to earn $15.5 million per year for the next three seasons. He will hit unrestricted free agency in 2028.

So far this season, he has averaged 6.0 points in 19.9 minutes per game while shooting 45% from the field and 35% from three. His career three-point shooting percentage is 37.1%.

Hyland has appeared in 20 games this season, averaging 7.2 points, shooting 39% from the field and 39% from three. He will enter restricted free agency after the season.

LAKE BUENA VISTA, FLORIDA - AUGUST 21: Paul George (13) of the LA Clippers drives against the Dallas Mavericks during the first quarter in Game Three of the Western Conference First Round during the 2020 NBA Playoffs at AdventHealth Arena at ESPN Wide World Of Sports Complex on August 21, 2020 in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.

Paul George was a prominent reason the Clippers fell in Game 2 of the Western Conference finals, missing critical free throws late in the final frame of play. However, he avenged his poor performance down the stretch with a masterful output in Game 3, cutting the series lead for the Suns in half.

George rebounded by notching 27 points, 15 rebounds and 8 assists. That effort propelled the Clippers to a 106-92 victory, a win that was effectively necessary to keep their season alive. The win marked the first time the Clippers had ever won a game in the Western Conference Final.

Despite missing superstar Kawhi Leonard, the Clippers received deeply-needed production from Reggie Jackson, lockdown defense from Patrick Beverley and a vacuum on the glass through the long reach of Ivica Zubac.

It didn’t help the Suns that Devin Booker shot just 5 for 21 on the night, a shooter that is typically prolific with the ball. Add that onto solid performances, and the red-hot hand of Clippers reserve Terance Mann, and the fate of Game 3 was essentially sealed.

The Clippers are the first team in history to overcome multiple 2-0 game deficits to win a series in one playoff run, and head coach Tyronn Lue will look to recreate that magic in Game 4. Lue was candid about how he sees winning games. “Whatever it takes, doesn’t matter to me,” he said.

Part of the Clippers’ success in Game 4 will depend on whether they can match the aggressive pace with which Phoenix plays. George was not blind to this fact. “We can’t allow [Phoenix] to play harder than us, and I thought that was just the way we approached tonight,” George said.

Game 4 will tip off in Los Angeles on Saturday night.
