The Tennessee Titans continue to build up their new staff with the planned hiring of Brian Daboll as offensive coordinator.

Daboll is the Titans’ first major move since hiring Robert Saleh as head coach. Daboll is still in the running for the Las Vegas Raiders head coaching job, so he won’t officially sign until after their head coaching search is done.

Daboll’s most recent coaching stint was as the New York Giants head coach. He coached them from 2022 to 2025. In 2022, he led his team to the playoffs and won Coach of the Year honors. He was fired in the middle of the 2025 season after several late-game collapses by the team.

Daboll began as a volunteer assistant at William & Mary. He got his chance in the NFL in 2000 as the defensive assistant for the New England Patriots. Daboll won three Super Bowls with the Patriots from 2000 to 2006.

In 2009, he finally got the chance to serve as the Cleveland Browns’ offensive coordinator. After two bad offensive seasons, he was let go by the Browns. He was the OC for the Kansas City Chiefs for one season before returning to New England, where he’d win two more Super Bowls as the tight ends coach.

He coached for one year in college football, serving as Alabama’s offensive coordinator. He added a College Football National Championship to his resume. He has six championships between the NFL and college football.

The Buffalo Bills hired Daboll as the offensive coordinator in 2018. In 2020, he won the Assistant Coach of the Year award.

In their short time together, Daboll and Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart had developed good chemistry. Daboll hopes to develop similar chemistry with Titans rookie QB Cam Ward. Daboll was instrumental in developing Josh Allen.

The Tennessee Titans released safety Jamal Adams this week, at the defender’s request. Adams joined the Titans to reunite with defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson, but he only appeared in three games in a limited capacity.

Wilson, who worked with Adams as an assistant for the New York Jets, was courteous in his comments toward the safety after his release.

“At this point, wish Jamal all the best going forward, it just didn’t work out here,” Wilson told reporters. “He’ll have great success wherever he goes.”

When Adams was preparing for his first appearance with the Titans after overcoming numerous injuries in past seasons, he claimed to be eager to contribute to an improving defense. After just one start and three total appearances in six weeks, however, it became clear that he would not contribute nearly as much as he intended. This is reportedly what motivated him to request his release.

At age 29 and with an extensive injury history, Adams is not the player that made three straight Pro Bowl appearances for the Jets and Seahawks between 2018 and 2020. Still, he had enough to offer for the Titans to give him a chance in July, and he will likely earn more opportunities in the future.

Several early playoff contenders, like the Commanders and Buccaneers, have managed to compete well this season despite obvious weaknesses on defense. Adams could be a worthwhile addition for both teams. It’s also possible that the safety’s former teams come calling, as both the Seahawks and Jets are dealing with injures in their secondaries.

The exact details of Adams’ tenure with Tennessee, which included a trip to the reserve list, will likely be a red flag for some teams. The stint could have gone sour for personal reasons or regression on the field. Adams’ past success will earn him another chance, but his time with the Titans was a misstep for both parties.

The Tennessee Titans fired head coach Mike Vrabel on Tuesday after wrapping up a 6-11 record on Sunday, their second straight losing season.

Vrabel ended the season with an unexpected win against the Jacksonville Jaguars, kicking them out of playoff position and making way for the Houston Texans, who won the AFC South this year for the first time since 2019.

One win wouldn’t change Vrabel’s future with the Titans.

In an interview with controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk, posted by the team on Tuesday, Strunk was asked whether she considered trading coach Vrabel rather than firing him.

“A coach’s contract, you can’t trade them unless they are a willing partner to that trade,” she said. “So yes, we thought about it, but at the end of the day with league rules the way they are, it would have maybe put us back three weeks, and you know, to get the right head coach, I was just not willing to go to the back of the line and take a chance of missing out on someone we really wanted.”

GM Ran Carthon was hired by the Titans just one year ago, and he has restated his approval of Vrabel since the start.

“Whether it’s personal or professional,” Carthon said, “we worked well together and had a good relationship. We were in lockstep… I wish Vrabes nothing but the best. I consider him a friend and I feel like we’ll be that way moving forward.”

The 48-year-old came to the Titans in 2018 after a two-year stint as defensive coordinator with the Texans. He initially led the Titans to four straight winning seasons and three playoff appearances. They reached the AFC championship in Vrabel’s second year in 2019 and lost in the wildcard round in the 2020 and 2021 seasons. Vrabel earned the Coach of the Year award in 2021 but followed it up with two seasons multiple games below .500.

“As the NFL continues to innovate and evolve,” owner Strunk noted, “I believe the teams best positioned for sustained success will be those who empower an aligned and collaborative team across all football functions. Last year, we began a shift in our approach to football leadership and made several changes to our personnel to advance that plan. As I continued to assess the state of our team, I arrived at the conclusion that the team would also benefit from the fresh approach and perspective of a new coaching staff.”

Despite missing out on Strunk’s plans for the Titans’ future, the former coach of the year already has multiple open head coaching positions on offer, including teams like the Washington Commanders, Los Angeles Chargers, Las Vegas Raiders, New England Patriots and more.

The Tennessee Titans (7-6) dominated the Jacksonville Jaguars (4-9) 30 – 9 Thursday night in an action-packed AFC South showdown.

Titans top Jags To Stay in Playoff Contention

Week 14 is always a special time in the NFL because it’s the time in the season where teams really start to find themselves and the playoffs start to take shape. As a few teams sit firmly in or out of the playoff race, some remain in the trenches fighting for a wild-card spot and a chance to win it all.

The Tennessee Titans are one such team, and their Thursday night victory over Jacksonville puts them a half a game behind the Baltimore Ravens (7-5, No. 6 seed), who currently have the last wild-card slot in the AFC.

Tennessee’s defense flew around the field all night, holding the Jags to just 3.8 yards per play. Rashaan Evans, Logan Ryan, Wesley Woodyard,  Jayon Brown, Jurrell Casey, Derrick Morgan and Brian Orakpo all flashed at one point or another.

Titans running back Derrick Henry had a career game highlighted by a record-tying 99-yard touchdown run. He’s now the second player in NFL history to run for 99 yards and a score, matching Tony Dorsett’s long rush from 1982.

Henry’s production meant Tennessee didn’t need much from quarterback Marcus Mariota, who had 162 yards on 18 completions.

In this game, Henry carried the load and ran for 238 of the team’s 264 yards on the ground. He tied Lorenzo White and Hall of Famer Earl Campbell for the most running touchdowns (4) in a single game in Titans/Oilers franchise history.

30 SPORTS FIGURES WHO DIED IN 2018 – TRIBUTE SLIDESHOW

Henry is the first player with four scores in a game since Patriots running back Jonas Gray in Week 11 of the 2014 season.

In just 13 carries, Henry became the first player in the Super Bowl era to rush for 200-plus yards and four or more touchdowns on 20 or fewer carries. He also set a franchise record for the most rushing yards in a single game, beating Chris Johnson‘s previous mark (228) set in 2009, which was also against the Jaguars.

Cody Kessler finished the loss completing 25 of his 43 passes for 240 yards and one touchdown. He was sacked four times and only managed to convert two of the team’s 12 third-down tries.

The Jaguars’ defense was full of holes as they surrendered 426 total yards to the Titans.

“I mean, I had limited opportunities; they ran the ball,” said Jaguar cornerback Jalen Ramsey. “They ran the ball down our throat 100 percent of the game. Personally, I didn’t have a lot of opportunities to make a game-changing play. I do what I can do and that’s all I can do, to be honest.”

For the Jaguars, their best play of the game likely came when Calais Campbell actually managed to take Henry down behind the line of scrimmage on the first play of the fourth quarter.

With this win, the Titans’ playoff hopes are within reach as the Ravens will have the formidable task of facing the AFC’s top-ranked Kansas City Chiefs (10-2) in Week 14. The Miami Dolphins, Denver Broncos (6-6) and Indianapolis Colts (6-6)  are also close behind the Ravens and will need a win this week to remain in the wild-card race.

Here’s a picture of wild-card hunt as we enter Week 14 of the 2018 NFL season:

The Titans could certainly win out and finish 10-6. Their remaining opponents are the New York Giants (4-8), the Washington Redskins (6-6), and the Indianapolis Colts (6-6) in their season finale.

Jacksonville moves to 4-9 with this loss and will have to put up better performances to get through the rest of its season. The Jaguars will face the Redskins and Dolphins in the coming weeks before closing out with the AFC South-leading Houston Texans (9-3).
