The Washington Football Team has been strengthening their roster for a deep playoff run. The team had to fill the vacant quarterback spot that was left by Alex Smith’s retirement. Washington signed veteran journeyman Ryan Fitzpatrick, and they gave Taylor Heinicke a contract extension. Although there may be a quarterback competition for the starting spot, It is widely assumed that Fitzpatrick will win the job.

In the offseason, Washington signed talented wide receiver Curtis Samuel and cornerback William Jackson. These signings will help Washington contend for another NFC East title.

NFC East: The division was one of the worst in league history last season. Washington barely won the division over the Giants in 2020. Washington, Dallas and New York all have a chance at winning this division. Dallas will be bolstered again now that Dak Prescott is healthy. The Giants added several key offensive weapons, including Pro Bowl wideout Kenny Golladay. The Cowboys are the favorites to win the division, but Washington could also win it if they win their divisional games.

Matchups: Key games for Washington will be against their divisional foes, the Giants and Cowboys. Between Weeks 3 and Week 7, Washington will endure a stretch of tough games against the Bills, Chiefs, Saints and Packers. Once Washington returns from their bye week, they will be subjected to a game with Tom Brady and the Buccaneers in Week 10. Weeks 14 through Week 18 will be the most important stretch of games for the Football Team. They will face five division rivals in each of their final five games.

Overall: Washington has made the moves needed to remain competitive in the NFC East. Adding Fitzpatrick and Samuel will improve the offense. The defense is already elite.

Prediction: Washington will finish with a 9-8 record.

The Washington Football Team has signed Taylor Heinicke to a two-year extension worth $8.75 million. The deal includes incentives for a number of games started.

Washington was impressed by Heinicke’s performance when he started in place of an injured Alex Smith during Wild Card weekend. Heinicke was chosen to start the team’s matchup against the eventual Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers. That start happened to be Heinicke’s lone start of 2020.

In his lone start, the quarterback efficient football. He completed 26 of 44 passes for 306 yards, one touchdown, and one interception against the Bucs. Additionally, Heinicke led the team with 46 yards rushing along with a touchdown.

For Heinicke, the contract extension is something that he wanted. The quarterback wanted to remain in Washington because he is fond of head coach Ron Rivera. “I love Ron,” he said. “I want to be back in Washington.”

While there is a possibility that Heinicke could start for the team, it is not certain yet. Furthermore, the team will be looking to add another quarterback with more experience than Heinicke.

On Sunday night, Washington Football Team tight end Chase Young called out Tom Brady as he left the field following the team’s NFC East title-clinching victory against the Philadelphia Eagles. Young was caught on camera saying, “Tom Brady, Tom Brady, I’m coming! I want Tom! I want Tom!”

Later in the week, on Wednesday, Young doubled down on these comments and showed that his stance has not changed.

“I play ball, I’m excited to go against the best. The media, their job is to stir it up. If you know me, I’m excited about every game. Tom Brady, you think I’m not excited to play against the GOAT? You trippin’. I’m not going to apologize for saying I want Tom. No, I want every quarterback I play against,” Young told ESPN.

Young’s wishes will come true on Saturday night as Washington will host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Brady at FedEx Field. Brady, 43, who will be appearing in his 12th straight postseason Saturday, did respond to Young’s words via video-conference call.

“He’s obviously a great player,” Brady said. “We’ve got our hands full on that D-line, one of the best D-lines in the league so, Chase is a great young player.”

Young, the No 2. overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft, might be a rookie, but he has a big personality. Over the course of the season, Young has delivered pregame speeches and walked the sidelines during games to encourage the offense.

Not only that, during a loss to the Carolina Panthers, when backup quarterback Taylor Heinicke replaced Dwayne Haskins, Young ran onto the field during a time out to pump up Heinicke. Earlier this week, Young’s coach Ron Rivera said that this situation would become “bulletin board material” for Tampa.

“They’ll have fun with it. You’ve got to chalk it up to youthful exuberance, but that’s who Chase is. I do cringe, but at the same time, I smile at it because he loves playing the game. I think that’s what it’s all about. That’s who Chase is. That’s the kind of guy we want on our football team.”
