2017 Masters Winner Sergio Garcia had a rough weekend at Augusta National Golf Club, opening his final round with a bogey before he arrived at the second hole and hit a poor drive into the fairway bunker.

Garcia was so unhappy with the drive that he decided to take out his frustration on the tee box and his driver, having a major meltdown that is rarely seen at the Masters. Garcia broke his driver after smashing it into a cooler after slamming his driver in the tee box, creating a huge divot.

A meltdown like this is not common, especially at a prestigious tournament like the Masters. The tantrum was not appreciated by the ANGC, which handed Garcia a code-of-conduct warning on the fourth tee. For someone who has won this tournament before, it was not a good look.

The divot was very noticeable for the rest of the way for the golfers teeing off behind Garcia.

Forty-eight hours after completing his final round at Augusta, Garcia issued an apology for his actions, saying, “I want to apologize for my actions on Sunday at The Masters tournament.”

“I respect and value everything that The Masters and Augusta National Golf Club are to Golf. I regret the way I acted, and it has no place in our game. It doesn’t reflect the respect and appreciation I have for The Masters, the patrons, tournament officials and golf fans around the world.”

The final major golf tournament of 2017 begins on Thursday: the PGA Championship will start at Quail Hollow in Charlotte.

Here is all the information you need on how to watch this year’s tournament in North Carolina.

The PGA Championship will run from Aug. 10-13. Live coverage for Rounds 1 and 2 on Thursday and Friday will start on TNT at 1 pm EST and end at 7 pm. Practice rounds began on Monday, Aug. 7.

For Rounds 3 and 4 on Saturday and Sunday, live coverage starts on TNT at 11 am EST and then shifts to CBS beginning at 2 pm until 7 pm.

Jordan Spieth is seeking to become only the sixth player to complete a career Grand Slam after winning the British Open Championship at Royal Birkdale in Southport, England two weeks ago. Phil Mickelson and Rory McIlroy are also on their final leg of the Slam, and need a victory at the U.S. Open and Masters, respectively.

Spieth will have an opportunity to become the youngest golfer ever, at 24 years, 17 days old, to record a Grand Slam. This will be his only chance as the youngest, as Tiger Woods was the last to complete the Slam in 2000 at 24 years, 5 months old after hoisting the Claret Jug at St. Andrews.

Spieth will begin competing in the PGA Championship side-by-side with Sergio Garcia and Brooks Koepka — the 2017 Masters and U.S. Open winners, respectively — on Thursday at 8:25 a.m. EST.

McIlroy will be competing with a new caddie after he parted ways with longtime caddie J.P. Fitzgerald on the eve of the WGC Bridgestone Invitational on Wednesday, Aug. 2. The Northern Irishman will be seeking his fifth major title and his first since the 2014 PGA Championship at Valhalla. McIlroy boasts the best record at Quai Hollow: two Wells Fargo victories for a total of six top-ten finishes in seven starts on the course.

After 14 years hosting the Wells Fargo Championship, Quail Hollow will host the 99th PGA Championship as the first major tournament to be held in Charlotte.

World No. 38 Jimmy Walker was the 2016 PGA Championship winner.

Sergio Garcia stunned everyone at the Players’ Championship in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida on Thursday by sinking a hole-in-one on the notorious 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass.

The Spaniard, who defeated Justin Rose in a playoff to win the Masters at Augusta last month, was four over par on Thursday when he stepped up to the 16th tee. Garcia, 37, birdied that par-5 hole and then drove spectators into a frenzy by firing a perfect 52-feet wedge. The moment, reminiscent of the Spaniard’s 2008 Players’ Championship victory, marked the second straight year that a golfer recorded an ace at the tournament, with Willy Wilcox having made a hole-in-one at Sawgrass in 2016.

Before Wilcox’s ace, a hole-in-one hadn’t been accomplished at Ponte Vedra Beach since 2002:

“I mean, I hit a good shot, but it can go there, it can go three yards past. I don’t know, it can do anything,” said Garcia, who says he has 12 aces, five in tournament play. “It was nice to see it bounce and kind of spin back into the hole. Maybe because I needed it after the start I had. It kind of made quite a poor round into — not a great round but a decent round. If I have a good day tomorrow, I’ll still be in good shape.”

The 2008 Players Championship winner then hit a headstrong drive on the 18th hole. After returning to the fairway, however, he got up and down from 55 yards to post an opening 73.

“The feeling was great,” Garcia stated of being declared the Masters champion. “I was a little bit nervous early on. I think I wasn’t quite in the tournament because of everything that’s been going on with — obviously after the Masters win and media and people congratulating you left, right and center. You know, I felt like I was a little bit up in the clouds, and when I woke up, I was 4-over after 6.”

Garcia’s 13 birdies on hole No. 17 since 2003 are the most on the PGA Tour, ahead of Adam Scott and Martin Kaymer who are tied for second with 12.

This year, the Spaniard’s eagle on the hole took him to one over, which is how he ended his round.

Sergio Garcia was treated to loud cheers and support from fans during a nine-hole practice round at TPC Sawgrass in Florida on Wednesday, the day before the start of the Players Championship.

The 37-year-old Spaniard, who won the Masters at Augusta National last month by defeating Justin Rose in a contentious playoff, was beaming as fans across the course at Ponte Vedra Beach yelled at him “Sergio!” and “Congratulations on the Masters!” according to GolfChannel.com’s Ryan Lavner.

Garcias has been scorned by fans at the Players Championship in previous years. In 2013, spectators cheered his two water balls on the notorious par-3 17th in 2013 following his infamous flap with Tiger Woods. Two years later, the Spaniard was ruthlessly mocked again in Florida after losing in a playoff.

Much like the fans, however, Garcia appears to have put all that behind him and says he appreciates the encouragement not just from spectators at Sawgrass, but all around the globe.

“The support from fans and supporters and everyone around the world has been amazing,” he said.

Garcia went on to describe how he believes the love from all the supporters — except for one couple whose names he did not reveal — was genuine

“For me, what has meant the most, it’s to see the reaction from the players, you know, towards me and how happy — other than a couple — how happy they all have been,” the 2008 Players Championship winner told reporters with a chuckle.

“They’ve been so happy for me to get my first major and win the Masters,” added Garcia, the world’s sixth-ranked golfer. “That, to me, shows a lot. It shows me how much my fellow players respect me and care about me. It’s something that you can’t really fake, so that’s awesome.’’

Garcia will start his 18th straight Players Championship at 1:41 pm EST on Thursday alongside Adam Scott and Matt Kuchar. 

Prior to his Masters triumph, Garcia had played in 70 major championships as a pro, with 19 top-10 finishes.

Sergio Garcia was playing in his 74th major championship at Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia this weekend, and on Sunday, he defeated Justin Rose in a contentious playoff to secure his first big title at the 81st Masters, the first since 1954 without legend Arnold Palmer.

The 37-year-old Spaniard and Rose both signed for their closing three-under 69s (279) to finish 72 holes at nine under par, then began their playoff on the par-4 18th hole, and Garcia ultimately came away with the green jacket after nearly 20 years of playing at the Masters. That green jacket, which was once bought for $5 at a thrift store, was sold at auction for more than $139,000 on Sunday, along with the putter Palmer used to win the 1964 Masters. That putter sold for more than $97,000.

Garcia finished in the top 10 at Augusta three times (2002, 2004, 2013), and now has the most career top-10s in majors history. Only two other Spaniards have won the Masters: the late Steve Ballestero, and Jose Maria Olazabal.

Fittingly, enough, Garcia’s big win came on what would have been Ballestero’s 60th birthday, and the 2017 Masters champion reflected on what the victory meant for him as an admirer of both Ballestero and Olazabal.

“It’s amazing. To do it on his 60th birthday and to join him and Olazabal, my two idols in golf my whole life, it’s something amazing,” Garcia told Jim Nantz on CBS following the win. “Jose sent me a text on Wednesday night telling me how much he believed in me and what I needed to do and just pretty much believing in myself and being calm and not let things get to me like I’ve done in the past.”

Ballesteros died of brain cancer almost six years ago. He won the first of his two Masters in 1980, three months after Garcia was born.

It was on the par-5 13th hole at Augusta on Sunday that the momentum began shifting away from Rose and back to Garcia.

Rose, who held a two-shot lead at that point, appeared strong in the fairway following a nice drive.

“I hit a really good iron shot into 13. I was playing for a little backstop behind the hole, hit a great shot and unfortunately it carried too far and set up a tough two-putt,” said Rose, a 36-year-old South African-born Englishman.

That shot from Rose truly flew slightly far and rested on the back fringe. That left a six-foot birdie attempt back up the hill.

“I didn’t hit that bad of a drive,” Garcia said, of his tee shot on 13. “I’ve been hitting that drive every day like a high cut. This drive was probably going three yards left of the ones I’ve hit the other three days, and unfortunately it hit the tree and went into the bush. In the past I would have said to my caddie ‘Why doesn’t it go through?’ But I was like, ‘If that’s what’s supposed to happen, let it happen. Let’s try to make a great five here and see if we can put a hell of a finish to have a chance. And if not, we’ll shake Justin’s hand and congratulate him for winning.”

Garcia’s fourth shot left 8 feet for par, which the Spaniard made.

“That par save there was big,” Garcia admitted.

Rose then missed, but was still up by two. Two holes later, Garcia caught up to his opponent to tie for the lead.

“That little two-shot swing there was kind of when he was back in the tournament,” Rose admitted. “I feel like if he misses at that point, I make, I’m four clear and I’ve got my eye on Thomas Pieters and Matt Kuchar instead.”

Kuchar, for his part, endeared everyone when he gave the ball he used to sink a hole-in-one on the par-3 16th hole to a young fan on the sidelines, a 10-year-old boy.

“I figured this would make a kid’s day and make a kid’s year,” said Kuchar, who posted a 67 to finish tied for fourth with . “It’s one of the neat things that we can do.”

Rose, the 2013 U.S. Open champion, has now finished second at the Masters twice in the last three years, and praised Garcia for his performance:

Garcia, who first emerged as a promising golfer as a teenager following a runner-up finish to Tiger Woods at the 1999 U.S. Open, said he felt a mix of several feelings after sinking the winning putt on Sunday.

“Obviously, this is something I wanted to do for a long time,” García said, “but, you know, it never felt like a horror movie. It felt like a little bit of a drama, but obviously with a happy ending.”

The Spaniard and Rose finished three shots ahead of South African Charl Schwartzel, the 2011 Masters winner, who recorded a 68 to finish alone at third.

Two of the tournament’s young American golfers, Jordan Spieth and Rickie Fowler, were placed together in the second-to-last pair. Both finished tied at 11th at one under-par, eight strokes behind Garcia and Rose. Fowler, who was also seeking his first major, recorded seven bogeys, including some on the last three holes, for a 76. Though they began Sunday within two shots of the lead, both Fowler and Spieth gave a lackluster showing the rest of the final round, just as Spieth had in last year’s Masters when he collapsed on the last day to surrender his 2015 title and green jacket to Englishman Danny Willett. 

“I wasn’t doing much wrong.  And that’s what was so tough,” said Texas native Spieth, who recorded a quadruple-bogey 7 on the par-3 12th last year at Augusta. “I didn’t feel like I was doing much wrong and I just look up and it just wasn’t landing where I thought it would.” 

Jason Day and Phil Mickelson finished tied at 22nd with two over-par.

It was a rough day for Lee Westwood (T18), William McGirt (T22) and Charley Hoffman (T22) who all shot over-par rounds to drop out of the invite bracket.

Garcia added that for now, one major title is enough for him.

“I don’t know if I’ll be the best player to have only won one major,” he said, smiling, “but I can live with that.”

Dustin Johnson was forced to withdraw from the 2017 Masters at Augusta on Thursday just before his afternoon tee time in the opening round.

Johnson and his team had seemed sure on Wednesday he would be fine to play on Thursday after the 32-year-old American and World No. 1 golfer injured his lower back and elbows while falling down a short flight of stairs.

Charley Hoffman (-3) maintains the lead in the second round, though he’s falling off slightly. The 40-year-old American is, however, +3 for the day largely due to three straight bogeys early in the round.

Hoffman finished Round 1 with a 4-shot lead, the biggest advantage after just one round at Augusta in 62 years. Hoffman is playing in his fourth Masters, and has had much success in the tournament. He’s finished in the top 30 in all three previous events, including in 2015 when he opened the tournament with a 67 that had him tied for second behind eventual champion Jordan Spieth. Hoffman ended up tied for ninth that year.

Phil Mickelson (-1) started off the 2017 Masters strong, and is tied for fourth. Meanwhile, other top players like Spieth (+3), Jason Day (+2), Rickie Fowler (+1) and Rory McIlroy (E) all had varying performances on Thursday. McIlroy is the favorite to win this year’s Masters. Englishman Danny Willett won last year’s Masters after Spieth fell apart in the final round. Spieth recently said Johnson was the man to beat at Augusta this year.

As the opening round of the 98th PGA Championship has been underway in Baltusrol, four Americans are in the top ten places.

American Jimmy Walker leads the way at 5-under 65. He birdied five of his first ten holes Not bad for someone who missed the cut in two of the last four PGA events. Walker is sitting ahead of fellow Americans Harris English and James Hahn by two strokes tied at fifth and Rickie Fowler by three tied for ninth.

Fowler started the day on the tenth hole and had four birdies and a bogey on the front nine. After the first nine holes Fowler was tied with Walker and American Brian Stuard. Stuard finished the day tied for 36th spot.

Australian golfer Scott Hend and American golfer Vaughn Taylor had the first birdie runs of the Championships. Both golfers birdied holes 13 – 15 all par 4s.

American Brooks Koepka finished his first round with 68, tied for ninth. He had to pull out of Bridgestone at the beginning of June due to a torn ligament in his right ankle. For the Championships he’s got tape and a brace to keep it secure as this will be his last major of the year. He had four birdies throughout the day and made an eagle on the 18th hole.

Sergio Garcia, Jordan Spieth and Bubba Watson combined had a total of two birdies on the first seven holes. A bit of a lackluster start for the trio. The birdies belonged to Garcia and Watson who both made them on the same, and second, hole to put Garcia and 1 under and Watson at 1 over. Garcia and Watson finish the day 1 over tied at 55th and Spieth finished the first day even tied at 36th.

Rory McIlroy started on the back nine and finished the day 4 over 70. Dustin Johnson finished 7 over 70, no doubt we will see better performances from these two in the coming days after Johnson won the U.S. Open in June.

German Martin Kaymer, who won his first major at the PGA Championship in 2010, gave Walker a run for first place on opening day. He started on the back nine and had four birdies over five holes to rest at 4 under. The second half of the course he bogeyed No. 2 leaving him and 3 under and he birdied the 17th and 18th hole.
