The Toronto Blue Jays will be returning to their temporary home in Buffalo, New York. The team announced it through a tweet on Wednesday afternoon. “Buffalo, we’re back,” the team wrote on Twitter. “We’ll see you June 1st.

Toronto has been unable to play back home at Rogers Centre because of the Canadian government restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Canadian government has not allowed the Blue Jays to play at home because of the risk of spreading COVID-19 due to the frequent travel required during a baseball season. Toronto last played in Rogers Centre on September 29, 2019.

Since then, Toronto has played the first two months of the season at TD Ballpark, and their spring training facility has been in Dunedin, Florida. During the shortened 2020 season, the team played their home games at Sahlen Field in Buffalo, New York. And now it looks like the team will continue to play home games at Sahlen Field until they are allowed back at Rogers Centre.

“The Blue Jays returning to Sahlen Field to once again temporarily play their home games is a testament to the great working relationship the Bison’s organization has with our Major League parent club,” said Mike Buczkowski, president of Rich Baseball Operations. “The only thing lacking from a successful MLB summer at Sahlen Field in 2020 was the ability to share that experience with our great fans. I know Buffalo is ready to get back to the ballpark and give the Blue Jays a ‘home-away-from-home’ field advantage that will propel them towards another postseason run.”

In the shortened 2020 season, fans were not allowed into stadiums, but this season approximately 4,300 fans can attend each game at Sahlen Field. Sahlen Field’s full capacity is listed at 16,600. Fan capacity could increase if everything goes right.

Yankees lose to Indians 5-1 in Sonny Gray's debut

The New York Yankees are set to visit the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday night for the opener of a three-game series, and here is everything you need to know.

Preview: Yankees Vs. Blue Jays

The game will air on the Yankees’ YES network, and can also be heard on the WADO 1280 radio station as well as WFAN 660/101.9 FM.

First pitch at Rogers Centre is scheduled for 7:07 pm EST. Left-hander CC Sabbathia (3.81 ERA, 77 K) will start for the Yankees (59-51), who sit three games behind the Boston Red Sox (63-49) for the American League East lead after losing four of their last seven games. The Bombers won their last two games, which were part of a four-game road series against the Cleveland Indians.

Sabbathia took the loss in his last outing, a 4-3 loss to the Detroit Tigers on Aug. 1 in which he allowed two homers over six innings. This will mark Sabbathia’s fourth time facing the Blue Jays this year. He is 1-1 with a 7.62 EA in his first three outings against Toronto this season.

The Blue Jays (52-59) — who are fifth in the AL East — will counter with lefty J.A. Happ, who has posted strong starts in seven of his past ten outings. In his last game, Happ (3.92 ERA, 80 K) reached double digits in strikeouts for the seventh time in his career and tied a season high with seven innings.

Sabathia said that adding Sonny Gray — who is set to make his second Yankees start on Thursday against Toronto — and Jaime Garcia just before Monday’s Non-Waiver Trade Deadline has “1,000 percent” convinced the rest of the team that ownership and the front office believe in their chances of securing a playoff berth.

“I think it means a lot,” Sabathia said. “Coming into this year not really knowing where we were going to be at the Trade Deadline, to have them go out and add pieces makes a huge difference for us, especially after last year.”

Both teams will face off again at 7:07 pm EST on Wednesday for the second game of the series.

Orioles' Manny Machado Punches Royals' Yordano Ventura, Brawl Ensues

It was a scene that has become all too familiar in recent weeks: both benches spilled out onto the field, punches thrown and jerseys torn.

Now that the melee has subsided, both the Baltimore Orioles and the Kansas City Royals learned the repercussions of their players’ actions.

MACHADO VS. VENTURA

Orioles shortstop, and one of baseball’s brightest budding stars, Manny Machado, was suspended four games and Royals pitcher Yordano Ventura was suspended for nine games, according to an announcement passed down by Major League Baseball and reported by USA Today.

The pair became entangled after Ventura plunked Machado in the back with a 99 MPH fastball June 6, prompting the shortsop to charge the mound, landing at least one punch to Ventura’s head.

Kansas City’s right-hander is no stranger to this type of punishment, having been suspended for seven games last season after hitting first basemen Jose Abreu.

But that was just the backdrop.

Chaos ensued after White Sox right fielder, Adam Eaton, hit a one-hopper back to Ventura, who jawed at Eaton before throwing to first for the third and final out of the inning.

HERE’S A LOOK BACK AT VENTURA’S INCIDENT WITH SOX

Machado, too, has been benched previously by the league for a physical altercation, serving a five-game suspension of his own in June 2014, after throwing his bat toward third base after a brushback pitch.

Both players have said they plan to appeal the suspensions.

“It’s just kind of tough when you have to play short because of something that someone else kind of got going,” said O’s Manager Buck Showalter prior to last night’s contest between Baltimore and Toronto.

Machado did not appear miffed by the announcement and was in the lineup Baltimore’s 6-5 win over the Blue Jays, north of the border at Rogers Centre.

Machado went 2-for-5 in the game, with one run batted in. The young shortstop would be sorely missed if his appeal fails to bear fruit, given he is batting .305 with 15 home runs and 38 RBI.

“They came up with the decision and obviously I’m going to appeal,” Machado said. ” We’ll see what happens.”

Machado should have some success with his appeal, but don’t expect the same for Ventura. The Royals righty is beginning to build a reputation in the league for having a bad attitude and a short fuse.

The fight reopened the debate about baseball’s unspoken rules.

Royals Manager Ned Yost came to his pitcher’s defense Wednesday.

“Everyone wants to jump on Ventura’s maturity,” Yost said via Rustin Dodd of the Kansas City Star. “But they look at the incident where (Machado) got hit. They didn’t see the at-bat before when Manny was screaming at him, ‘Don’t throw inside to me, don’t throw inside.’ (Ventura gets thrown into the spotlight that he’s guilty, there’s more to this thing.”
