As if his recent on-field struggles weren’t troubling enough, Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson was recently criticized by an old teammate for his personality in the locker room.

Former Seattle Seahawks fullback Michael Robinson is predicting a mutiny in Denver’s locker room due to Wilson’s passive demeanor.

“If you’re a teammate in that locker room, you’re like, be human! Please! Call somebody out! Be upset about something! Don’t just act like this is just business as usual!” Robinson said on NFL Network’s Total Access Tuesday. “Because at the end of the day, I think it’s on the horizon for this team — I hope it’s not — but I think it’s on the horizon: Mutiny is afoot.”

Robinson went on to say that his former quarterback, who signed a $245 million contract with Denver last offseason, is sure to anger his teammates by failing to demonstrate a competitive edge in the face of a disappointing 2-4 start.

The retired fullback predicted that teammates in the locker room will begin to interpret Wilson’s attitude as non-caring.

“How can you stand up there, you know the offense looks like this, you know all these questions around here about you and the offense, and you just say, ‘We need to execute better, let’s ride,’” Robinson said.

Following his departure from Seattle after 10 seasons and a Super Bowl victory, many expected the Broncos to become an instant contender. The team hasn’t come close to meeting those expectations, however, as their offense has been noticeably stagnant in multiple primetime games.

Robinson may be Wilson’s most outspoken former teammate in recent days, but he is not the only one criticizing the quarterback.

Former Seahawks stars Richard Sherman and Marshawn Lynch criticized his personality on Sherman’s podcast Tuesday. Sherman claimed that Wilson did not make himself available to his former teammates, and Lynch said that he resents Wilson for never giving him his personal phone number.

“If I can’t call you direct, I ain’t calling you — especially if I went to war with you,” Lynch said.

Sherman also said that Wilson and the Broncos were on “the struggle bus,” referring to the team’s 2022 performance and potential locker room issues.

In the past, Wilson has been able to silence many of his critics on the field, where he has always earned his large contracts with superior quarterback play. This season has marked a deviation from that trend thus far.

Five-time Pro Bowler Richard Sherman has signed a one-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

On The Richard Sherman Podcast, the veteran cornerback revealed the thought process that went into his decision.

“I went with the best offer I had, the best opportunity to go out there and put some great tape on, to lead another group,” Sherman said. “I feel comfortable and confident in my abilities to go out there and execute and help that team win.”

Sherman also added that Buccaneers’ quarterback Tom Brady played a role in persuading him to Tampa.

“He’s the all-time great quarterback reaching out, and anytime he makes that call, it’s a very difficult opportunity to pass up,” he said.

Legal troubles have loomed over Sherman since a July 15 incident at the home of his wife’s parents, which resulted in him being charged with five misdemeanors. However, the 33-year-old stated that the incident ultimately led to positive changes.

“It really forced me to step back and go ask for help and get the help I need and to not be afraid, to be proud to ask,” he said. “In that, it’s been remarkable how many other people have said they had the same issue. Because you always feel like you’re alone. You always feel like you’re the only one dealing with this.”

Sherman is regarded as one of the best cornerbacks in NFL history. He leads the NFL in interceptions since 2011 with 36, and led the Seattle Seahawks to a Super Bowl XLVIII victory against the Denver Broncos.

Tampa will surely make the most of Sherman’s leadership experience to help mentor the Buccaneers’ young secondary and solidly the team’s vulnerable pass coverage.

A judge has ordered Richard Sherman to be released without bail. Sherman was arrested on suspicion of trying to break into his in-laws’ home northeast of Seattle.

King County District Court Judge Fa’amomoi Masaniai found probable cause that Sherman committed four offenses: misdemeanor and gross misdemeanor charges of criminal trespass in the second degree, malicious mischief in the third degree (both carrying domestic violence designations) and misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest and driving under the influence.

Masaniai declined to set $10,000 bail as prosecutors requested. Instead, the judge called Sherman, who did not attend the hearing, a “pillar of the community” and noted that he would be released because it was his first arrest.

The cornerback’s release comes with conditions set by the Judge. Sherman has to return to court when requested, cannot use drugs or alcohol, cannot possess firearms and has a contact order with his father-in-law but not his wife.

The free agent was arrested early Wednesday after police said that he crashed his car in a construction zone along a busy highway east of Seattle and then tried to break into his in-laws’ home in the suburb of Redmond, Washington.

Sherman’s father-in-law, Raymond Moss, told officers that he armed himself with a handgun and fired pepper spray at Sherman as he tried to bust in the door with his shoulder.

“The family began to yell in fear,” Moss told police. “I used pepper spray on Sherman’s face through the partially opened door as he was still banging and attempting to gain entry. I told him to stop. I armed myself with my handgun at this time fearing for the safety of myself and my family.”

Police said that the cornerback displayed “severe mood swings and slurred speech, had bloodshot, watery eyes, and had the odor of intoxicants emitting from his person.” Sherman told police at the scene that he was upset over his children being taken from him.

Police were cautious in arresting the cornerback because of his strength and size. The cornerback was uncooperative when authorities issued commands for him to kneel as he was under arrest. Officers could not use a Taser because they worried about igniting whatever chemical Moss sprayed at the cornerback, and they were unable to fire a beanbag round because they were too close to him. Police had to use a K-9 unit to subdue and apprehend him.

Once he was in custody, Sherman became very polite and cooperative with officers.

Ashley Sherman, the cornerback’s wife, told police that the NFL player was on antidepressants and receiving mental health counseling.

Free-agent cornerback Richard Sherman was arrested and booked Wednesday morning for a burglary and a domestic violence felony charge.

It was also announced that Sherman was denied bail. A Redmond Police Department spokesman said that it’s standard procedure for suspects of domestic violence to be denied bail until they can appear before a judge.

A spokesperson for the Redmond Police Department said that a 911 call was made from the residence at 1:46 a.m. The caller said that a male family member who didn’t live at the residence was attempting to force his way into the home.

When Police arrived, they identified the suspect as Sherman. Police say that Sherman was uncooperative and fought with them during questioning. Police had to deploy a K9 unit to subdue the combative star. He was then apprehended and taken to a local hospital to be checked. After he was cleared medically, he was booked into the King County Correctional Facility.

However, his legal troubles do not end there. The Washington State Patrol is investigating Sherman for another incident. The cornerback is being investigated for a hit and run and damage to the state Department of Transportation property. This was reported by Adam Schefter of NFL Insider.

State police said that the single-car incident occurred when a car struck a concrete barrier. The vehicle was then abandoned in a parking lot. The vehicle registration came back to Sherman.

“The driver apparently was able to drive the vehicle off the exit and abandoned it in a nearby parking lot,” Schefter explained on Twitter. “The registration was run, and it came back to Richard Sherman.”

The NFLPA released a statement on this situation since Sherman is vice president of the executive committee.

“We were made aware of an arrest last night of one of our player leaders for an alleged domestic violence incident and have activated our domestic violence crisis protocol for the protection and support of everyone involved,” the NFLPA said in a statement. “We will continue to monitor events closely as more facts are made available to us.”

On Monday, Richard Sherman says that he intends to follow through on his plan to play in the NFL until he is 35.

Sherman, who will be 33 in March, is set to become an unrestricted free agent believes his next NFL stop will be where he ends his career.

“I only want to play two more [seasons],” Sherman told Stephen Smith of ESPN. “I want to get on a competitive team. I think I still have a lot to give to the game. I think I still have a lot that I want to accomplish and I think I can go out there and help a defense come together like it should and reach their potential, reaches the heights that the defenses that I’ve played on have reached.”

When the new NFL league year opens this March 17, Sherman will make his second appearance into unrestricted free agency, but the first time following the expiration of his contract.

In 2018, Sherman signed with the 49ers after the Seattle Seahawks released him after his seven-year tenure with them.

In December, Sherman stated that it would take a “miracle” for him to return to the 49ers given their many free agents and lack of salary-cap space to retain them. When speaking with Smith, Sherman named the Las Vegas Raiders as a potential destination. There is also the New York Jets, who recently hired former Niners defensive coordinator as their head coach.

Regardless of where Sherman ends up, he seems set on finishing his career where and when he wants to.

“After two years, I think I’m going to shut it down, regardless, because I’m sure I’ll still get calls, I’m sure people still want to see if I have interest,” Sherman said. “I think two more years and I’ll be content where I’m at.”

Richard Sherman does not see himself returning to the San Francisco 49ers in the offseason.

It is not because of any personal issues, but rather because of the financial situation. The 32-year-old star cornerback has analyzed the cap situation as the 49ers have other important players to sign long term. Such players include left tackle Trent Williams and linebacker Fred Warner.

On ESPN, Sherman spoke about the situation saying, “But there’s 40 free agents and they’ll probably have $30 million or less in cap and they have got to bring back Trent, who costs over $20 million. They have to pay Fred, who costs $18 million-plus a year. So anybody who knows the situation understands that.”

The five-time Pro Bowler has been invaluable for the 49ers’ defense. The former Super Bowl champion brings leadership qualities to the locker room and the ability to shape up the team defense. Last season, Sherman performed well for the defense as he finished with 61 combined tackles coming close to tying his 2012 career-best of 64 combined tackles with the Seattle Seahawks.

Sherman missed out on nine games this season because of a calf injury.

Coach Kyle Shanahan has expressed his view on the importance of the cornerback and said, “Sherm’s a guy that when he does get older and he does descend, he’s such a good football player, he finds a way. I understand his contract issue this year. I understand there’s a number of guys on our team with that this year, but whoever can help us win football games, our guys are trying to figure out how to bring [them] back, especially guys who do it the right way.”

“Sherm is as good as anyone in those categories,” he added. “Now, there’s lots of stuff that go into it at the end of the year and how we’re going to balance all this out and wait to figure out what the salary cap is and stuff with what happens, but I know Sherm’s time here, he’s been everything we’ve hoped and more. And I really hope that these next whatever games we have left, I really hope that’s not the end of it.”

On Friday, the NFL released a video on social media in support of their players in peaceful protests and saying that they condemn racism. That video however only saw league commissioner Roger Goodell, speaking on behalf of the league and the owners. There are some players who say that is not enough.

On Tuesday, San Francisco 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman, while speaking with the San Francisco Chronicle, said that he wants to hear directly from owners, particularly one owner. “It’s not pulling them like it is the rest of the country,” he said.” Because if it was, then they’d speak. Jerry Jones, especially, has no problem speaking up any other time about anything else. But when it’s such a serious issue, and he could really make a huge impact on it with a few words, his silence speaks volumes.”

Jones has been called out by former Cowboy Dez Bryant, who said that Jones, as well as his son Stephen Jones and former teammate Jason Witten, should attend Black Lives Matter protests to see what unity is really like.

Jones is notoriously outspoken on various issues, always available to speak to the media and has said in the past that any player who protests during the national anthem would not be allowed to play for the Cowboys.

The Cowboys did release a video last week talking about their efforts in regards to social justice, but Jones was not in the video.

Sherman said the conversation regarding racial injustice is taking a step in the right direction. “But I think this time society has moved forward to the point where they’re able to have a conversation and their family understands, ‘Hey, (black) people have had a tough go at it. They deal with inequities at all levels,” he noted. “And maybe it is time to start understanding that and seeing that even though it doesn’t affect us as much.’”

The conference championships have arrived and the NFL is ready to see what will be two highly anticipated games. Veteran quarterbacks take on rookies as established franchises seek to hold firm against rising ones. The AFC and NFC Championship games are set to kickoff tomorrow.

AFC: Tennessee Titans (9-7) @ Kansas City Chiefs (12-4)

Tennessee heads to Kansas City after coming off two giant wins against the number one defense of the New England Patriots in the Wild Card round and the number one offense of the Baltimore Ravens in the Divisional round. The Titans have won seven of their last nine games.

The Titans offense, led by quarterback Ryan Tannehill and Derrick Henry, have proven to be a powerhouse, especially in the playoffs thus far. The defense will find difficulty in stopping Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, but does carry a lot of momentum into Kansas City after their two previous games.

Mahomes will take key lessons learned from last year’s AFC Championship loss and apply them here in hopes of avenging that loss to the New England Patriots.

“Last year they caught us a little off guard with the coverages they played at the beginning of the game,” Mahomes said. “We made adjustments and were able to score points later in the game, but you want to make sure that you’re just preparing for everything. You know that [the Titans have] a good defense. They do a lot of different things, play a lot of man, play a lot of zone and so you know they’re going to throw different coverages out there against you.”

Kansas City is favored to win. Line, Over/Under: KC -7, 53

NFC: Green Bay Packers (13-3) @ San Francisco 49ers (13-3)

The Packers enter hostile territory in what is set to be a great NFC Championship game. This is the eighth playoff meeting between these two teams and just the second NFC Championship Game.

Green Bay will look to quarterback Aaron Rodgers to step up and land some key shots against a mighty 49ers defense. He has famously avoided throwing in Richard Sherman‘s direction, so that matchup between Davante Adams and any other 49ers cornerback will be key.

The Packers offensive line has proved to be one of the best in the NFL and will have to hold Nick Bosa, the favorite for Defensive Rookie of the Year, at bay.

San Francisco quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will look to George Kittle early and often, as Kittle has proved his worth and been a dominate force for the 49ers offense.

In response to his ups and downs throughout the season thus far, Garoppolo said, “That’s just part of being a quarterback. In football, bad things are going to happen at some point. No one’s ever going to play a perfect game, so it’s just how you react to those things.”

San Francisco 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman was in a giving mood on Thanksgiving as he donated money to pay off a school’s cafeteria debt. This comes just days after he was named the NFLPA Community MVP. Sherman took to Cabrillo Middle School in Santa Clara and wrote a personal check for $7,491.27 to wipe out the school’s cafeteria bill. In response, he said, “The last thing any child should have to worry about is being able to afford eating breakfast and lunch.” This was met with applause and gratitude from local school officials in Northern California as about 60 students will benefit from this donation.

Sherman is no stranger to giving back to local schools. Just last month he wrote a $20,000 check to the Tacoma Public Schools in Washington to relieve their students’ lunch debt.

The NFLPA Community MVP program recognizes NFL players who make positive impacts to their local communities. Each week during the regular season, the NFLPA celebrates one player who demonstrates commitment to the cause.

Sherman, who was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the fifth round of the 2011 draft, is a four time select to the Pro Bowl and led the NFL in interceptions in 2013, the same year he helped the Seahawks to a Super Bowl victory. The former Stanford Cardinal played with Seattle from 2011-2017, when he was traded to the 49ers.

The biggest hit the San Francisco 49ers have experienced this season is to their health. They are 5-0 with nine starters on their injured list.

Joe Staley — the six time Pro-Bowler and three time second team All-Pro offensive tackle — has been the most significant player lost to injury. Staley suffered a fracture left fibula against the Bengals on Sept. 15.

However, the good news is that coach Kyle Shanahan (who gets my vote for Coach of the Year as it stands) said Monday that Staley is close to returning, as is third-year cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon. According to NBC Sports, the Niners said in their latest injury update that Staley could be back as soon as the Week 7 home game against Carolina, while WItherspoon could return to the lineup by the Week 8 matchup at Arizona.

Witherspoon — who has been really good lining up parallel to future Hall of Famer Richard Sherman at CB — went down with a right foot strain against the Steelers on September 22 . Sherman could have been the tenth player on this list of injuries after leaving the game against the Rams early with a right arm injury, but the coach said he would most likely play this week and did not put him on the injured reserve list (with another “honorable mention” that escaped the IR Sunday: K’Waun Williams, who was examined for a hand injury).

Offensive tackle Mike McGlinchey and full back Kyle Juszczyk are out for four to six weeks with significant knee injuries, and the latter requires surgery. This means the pair will return until sometime between the Nov. 11 home game against Seattle or the Dec. 1 matchup at Baltimore.

SPORTS FIGURES WHO DIED IN 2019 – TRIBUTE SLIDESHOW

Meanwhile, wide receivers Trent Taylor and rookie Jalen Hurd show that the injuries do not discriminate between defense or offense. Hurd has not played a snap in the NFL, but was chosen in the third round this year with a lot of promise after a decorated college career. Jason Verrett, Kentavius Street and Garrett Celek round out the list.

The 5-0 49ers play the new-look Washington Redskins on Sunday. The Redskins started the season 0-5; but after letting head coach Jay Gruden go last week, they beat the struggling Miami Dolphins under promoted coach Bill Calahan.

Hopefully, the Niners will have two of their main pieces back in time for their game against the surging Carolina Panthers, who have won the last four straight contests against good teams.

The San Francisco 49ers believe this 2019 NFL season is a Super Bowl season or a bust. Despite going 4-12 last season and losing their starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to an ACL injury, head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch believe they can push to the very top this season, and so do the players.

“I think I’m going to win. I don’t think I’m going to lose,” 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman said, according to Bleacher Report. “Some people see things differently. Some people are like, ‘Man, just let it happen.’ Some people are like, ‘Well, I called the shot. I plan on making it.'”

The obvious question is, are they serious? This is a team that has gone 17-47 in the past four seasons. This is the team that passed up on current league MVP Patrick Mahomes and Houston Texans leader Deshaun Watson, and decided to pick up defensive linemen Soloman Thomas from Stanford in the 2017 draft. Thomas ended up having four total sacks in 30 games of play. The 49ers haven’t hit the bullseye with every draft pick under Lynch and Shanahan, but within the draft and outside it, pieces started to assemble.

George Kittle, last year’s breakout tight end, was the 146th pick in 2017 draft, and Shanahan saw his potential from a mile away at the start of that draft. Kittle broke the record for most receiving yards by a tight end with almost 1,400 yards last season, despite having to play with a backup quarterback for 13 games. He was the eighth-highest receiver in terms of yards last season.

SPORTS FIGURES WHO DIED IN 2019 – IN MEMORIAM SLIDESHOW

On the other side of the ball, Lynch seems to be building his ideal vision of a defense. In 2017, they signed Sherman for three years, edge rusher Dee Ford for five years, and Kwon Alexander to lead the defense with a four-year contract. Although they drafted Reuben Foster from Alabama, who has now been traded to the Washington Redskins, they drafted Fred Warner the following year, who was the 70th overall pick. Warner had 70 solo tackles in his first season in the NFL. With the 49ers using their second overall pick to draft Nick Bosa, Lynch expects his underrated defense to be one of the best this season.

Analysts question if Garoppolo has enough targets to throw to. Jordan Matthews, Deebo Samuel and Jalen Hurd have talented potential to cover the wideouts, while Dante Pettis recorded just under 500 yards last season. The wideouts will be crucial for the 49ers to relieve pressure off Kittle, who will be every defensive coordinator’s target come next season. However, Lynch says he has confidence in his receivers, and says it’s up to Garoppolo to become the All-Pro quarterback he believes he can be.

“He needs to play,” Lynch says, according to Bleacher Report. “I don’t care how talented you are, you’re going to go through growing pains playing that position in this league.”

Nick Bosa had all the talent in the world to be a top pick in the NFL Draft. However, he didn’t have the Twitter to.

Leading up to the draft, the Ohio State product had to scrub his Twitter of any controversial content, removing posts and unfollowing accounts. In the past, Bosa has liked what some define as “homophobic and racist” content.

Even then, the San Francisco 49ers still felt that Bosa had too much to pass up. Maybe even his tweets calling former quarterback-turned-activist Colin Kaepernick “a clown” for his kneeling protests of social injustices and police brutalities made him more likable to the ownership group that blackballed the quarterback. But even so, when drafted, he still had to join a defensive united that featured cornerback Richard Sherman, one of the league’s most active players in discussing issues regarding social justice.

Sherman quelled any unrest in the eyes of fans on Monday. He told The Sacramento Bee “One thing about football is that nobody really cares what you say if you can play. At the end of the day, I think a guy that has played with African Americans his whole life, not saying he can’t be racist, but they know how to maneuver around African Americans.”

At his introductory news conference for a team in one of the NFL’s most progressive markets, Bosa acknowledged his past actions.

30 SPORTS FIGURES WHO DIED IN 2018 – TRIBUTE SLIDESHOW

“I definitely made some insensitive decisions throughout my life, and I’m just excited to be here with a clean slate,” he said. “I’m sorry if I hurt anybody. I definitely didn’t intend for that to be the case, but I think me being here is even better for me as a person because I don’t think there’s any city that you could really be in that would help you grow as much as this one will.”

Bosa continued: “I’m going to be surrounded by people, all different kinds, so I’m going to grow as a person and I’m going to be on my own. College, you have kind of like that support system around you. Now I’m here, I’m going to be on my own, I’m going to grow up, I’m going to learn a lot of new things.”

Sherman, though acknowledging everything Bosa has said and done, said that his focus was on football.

“It’s not like something where guys are like, ‘Hey man, what about what you said?’ No. No. If he can play, he can play. If he can’t play, he won’t be here,” the four time Pro-Bowler said. “But at the end of the day, that’s all that matters in football. Is he getting sacks on Sunday? Is he helping our team? Is he being a good teammate? Those are things that matter. Now if he’s a bad teammate, that’s something we’ll address.”

Richard Sherman met with reporters Wednesday to discuss the details of his exit from the Seattle Seahawks and subsequent signing with the San Francisco 49ers.

Richard Sherman 49ers contract news

The veteran cornerback — who inked a three-year, $39 million deal with the 49ers on March 10 — described his last days with the Seahawks in an article for The Players’ Tribune.

Sherman revealed that the Niners called him three minutes after he was officially released. He praised San Francisco coach Kyle Shanahan in the piece.

Sherman’s new contract allegedly counts s a $5 million bonus and $2 million base salary.

Sherman added playing against the Seahawks twice a year was “definitely a perk” to signing with San Francisco, but that he also signed with the 49ers because “they showed genuine interest” in him.

Though the 49ers finished a dreadful 6-10 in 2017, they impressed in their final five games, which they won after quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo took over the offense.

Sherman only played 10 contests in 2017 due to a torn Achilles. He will now hope to lead San Francisco to its first playoff appearance since 2013.

The Seahawks also lost another player this week in free agency. Tight end Luke Willson signed a one-year contract with the Detroit Lions on Wednesday. The deal is reportedly worth $2.5 million. The Lions released tight end Eric Ebron ahead of the new NFL year.

Richard Sherman’s season is officially over.

Richard Sherman Ruptured Achilles News

The Seattle Seahawks cornerback sustained a ruptured Achilles tendon in Thursday’s 22-16 victory over the Arizona Cardinals in Glendale.

Sherman — who has never missed a game since his NFL debut in 2011 — said his Achilles has been perturbing him all season. He exited Thursday’s game in the third quarter and did not return. He is set to undergo surgery.

“No coming back from that until you get surgery,” head coach Pete Carroll said, adding that Sherman “couldn’t even walk” after leaving the game and standing on the sideline. “He’s been a bastion of consistency, competitiveness and toughness. We’re going to miss the heck out of him.”

In his post-game press conference, Sherman was visibly emotional while discussing his injury.

“I thought I could get the ball. Once it popped, just unfortunate,” said Sherman. “One of those things that you have to play through for as long as you can. When it goes, it goes.”

“I’ve put a lot of stress on it. Think it would have gone eventually.”

Jeremy Lane replaced Sherman on Thursday. Sherman has vehemently criticized Thursday night football before, arguing it’s hypocritical of the NFL to promote player safety in other areas, but then require teams to play after just three days off.

Also injured on the Seahawks squad Thursday was left tackle Duane Brown, who sprained his ankle. However, Carroll said the team does not yet know how serious that injury is. Second-year running back C.J. Prosise — who missed most of the past five games with a right ankle sprain — sprained his left ankle in the third quarter.

The Seahawks (6-3, 2nd in NFC West) next host the Atlanta Falcons on Nov. 20.

The Seattle Seahawks outspoken cornerback Richard Sherman took some time out of his busy week preparing for the 2017/2018 football season to name a list of quarterbacks whom, despite being worse than Colin Kaepernick, are starting on a team while Kaepernick waits without an employer.

Among those players Sherman named were Ryan Mallet, Ryan Fitzpatrick and Jared Geoff.

“You’re telling me fans would rather you lose and put a worse player out there because a guy took a stand?” Sherman wondered to USA Today. “That’s where it is so troublesome to me.”

Sherman’s remarks came immediately after Baltimore Ravens’ owner Steve Bisciotti was asked during a fan forum about the potential image damaging qualities Kaepernick might bring if the team signed him – the Ravens, with their star quarterback Joe Flacco out with an injury, desperately need a quarterback.

In a rambling answer, Bisciotti said things like, “I care about the fan base but I have to absorb the opinions of the layers that have been there,” and “I don’t know, I’m Catholic, we spend a lot of time kneeling. So you know when I saw him develop last year and he went from siting to kneeling next to his teammates – I liked that.”

Although he had done it several times before hand, Kaepernick was first noticed for sitting during the National Anthem – “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color,” he told NFL.com – in August 2016. The movement grew quickly but not as fast as its opposition. Kaepernick was labeled a cop-hater, anti-Military, and anti-American. And soon, he was without a job.

The Kaepernick debate is still contentious but despite some people’s claim that it has nothing to do with race, the conflict has everything to do with race – Kaepernick said it did right from the get-go.

Leaving a decent quarterback in free agency – and he is decent, if not a little more than decent – because of his political beliefs, these political beliefs, begs the question, “Do NFL owners think their fan base is racist?”

They must. During Bisciotti’s rambling answer, he mentioned that it is dangerous to listen to a vocal minority when making a team decision but he failed to mention who the vocal minority was. Is it the group of people who think that Kaepernick is one step away from becoming some black militant terrorist? Or is it the group of people who are tired of police aggression, brutality, and murder against black citizens?

I would assume that winning football games is more important to a fan base than agreeing with your quarterback’s views on social injustice but the owners don’t seem to concur. By black-balling Kaepernick, the owners – the vast majority of whom, are older, white males – are telling the world that they believe that their fan base is filled with racists who would protest the team and put financial interests at stake if Kaepernick were to be signed.

There’s another aspect of race that plays into this situation that people have seemed to forgotten about. In 2017, out of all 32 projected quarterbacks to start on opening day, only five are black.

Kaepernick was already an outsider when he took his first snap under center in the NFL. His protest against social injustice only exacerbated this fact by a little.

There is a line that black quarterbacks – who have already been afforded a rare opportunity by the owners – cannot cross if they want to keep their job because, as has been made clear, the men in charge are afraid that their racist fans will turn on their profits.

In the words of Biscotti, “You gotta be careful about the vocal minority, they have a tendency to sound like a bigger group than they are.”

The vocal minority is a group of racists, mixed in with a group of people unable to even briefly empathize with a black American’s fight against social injustice. Don’t listen to them, they have a tendency to sound like a bigger group than they are.

As one of the best defenders in all of football, Richard Sherman has thwarted many touchdown celebrations. But now, after following through on a promise he made a year ago, Sherman is giving a graduating high school senior a Super Bowl sized reason to celebrate.

Last year, Sherman told Richmond, Virginia high school student Hershai James that if she made the honor roll her senior year, Sherman would provide her with a full scholarship to her college of choice. Now, after finishing the school year with a 3.0 GPA, James is ready to go to Norfolk State University and Sherman is more than happy to pay up.

James and Sherman first met at the cornerback’s former teammate Michael Robinson‘s charity dinner, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch. Robinson’s foundation, the Excel to Excellence Foundation, hosted the dinner and addresses Robinson’s “concern for children that were getting left behind in our society.” James, like Robinson, is a graduate of Varina High School in Richmond.

“At the dinner when Richard Sherman came to me about the scholarship, I was in shock,” James told the TImes-Dispatch. “I believe I said, ‘Really?’ for reassurance. I just felt so blessed to have been given the wonderful opportunity.”

Using the scholarship as motivation, James finished her high school career off strong, maintaing a high enough GPA to make the honor roll.

“When my senior year began, I definitely had the scholarship in my head as motivation,” James told the paper. “With being a senior, the year is really stressful. Having something to look forward to helped.”

After achieving her goal, James reached out to Jonathan Mayo, Excel’s executive director, who, in turn, reached out to Robinson and Sherman. Having remembered the conversation, Sherman, who graduated from Stanford University in 2010, happily obliged.

“It goes back to knowledge is power and if you have knowledge you’re going to be as powerful as you ever want to be,” Sherman told the paper. “Nobody stops anybody from reading and educating themselves. Mike [Robinson] is only trying to empower these kids to be everything that they can be and if we can help with that, with our presence, with our jerseys, with our words, we’ll do everything we can.”

Both parties have decided to keep the amount of the scholarship private. James plans on studying business at the liberal arts, historically black university.

Richard Sherman and Michael Bennett have vehemently denied a recent ESPN article that alleged they and other Seattle Seahawks defenseman still hold a grudge against Russell Wilson for throwing the interception that lost the team a Super Bowl two years ago.

Michael Bennett, Richard Sherman Slam ESPN Piece about rift with Russell Wilson

The story, written by ESPN’s Seth Wickersham, focused particularly on Sherman. Wickersham claimed the cornerback shouted “You f—ing suck!” at Wilson after intercepting the quarterback during practice in June 2014, eight months before the Seahawks lost to the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLIX. Wilson was intercepted by Malcolm Butler in the end zone in the final seconds of that Super Bowl, which the Patriots won.

The ESPN article also alleged that some of the Seahawks players occasionally became frustrated that Wilson never received criticism from head coach Pete Caroll, who is know for being one of the most congenial coaches in the league.

“Its just a bunch of nonsense from ‘anonymous’ sources,” Sherman said of the story in an interview with Sirius XM NFL Radio. “Can never put much gravity of things like that.”

Bennett, meanwhile, shared the article on Twitter and called it “trash” and “gossip.” The defensive end also called Wilson a “great teammate and friend and even better human” in a separate tweet.

Wickersham also claimed a Seahawks assistant coach criticized Sherman for blaming other players and coaches on the team for their failures instead of taking some responsibility himself.

“He’s always looking at what other people are doing,” the assistant reportedly told Wickersham of Sherman. “He’s made it personal. It’s your fault we’re not winning. It wears guys thin.”

“It galls the defense to hear Wilson, ever positive, stand behind a podium and insist that the offense ‘made some great plays’ after games in which the Seahawks barely score — and then be propped up as if he were Aaron Rodgers,” Wickersham wrote.

Sherman has gained a reputation for being a loud and expressive player, having excitedly yelled at sideline reporters after games to show how thrilled he was after making a big stop. Some reports even began calling the cornerback a “thug,” though the Seahawks insisted Sherman is simply a very high-energy NFL star — who reportedly had a 3.9 GPA at Stanford.

In May 2016, Bennett said he was unhappy with his contract with the Seahawks, but that he would still attend training camp that year, which he did. The defensive end signed a four-year, $28.5 million extension during the 2014 offseason after one year in Seattle.

As Chicago Fire midfielder Joevin Jones lined up to take a corner kick, Mexican fans can be clearly seen pelting him with trash from the stands and can be seen shining laser pointers in the midfielder’s eyes as he lined up the kick. See for yourself here.

Of course, Jones and teammate Yohance Marshall tied the Mexicans with a beautiful header goal in what may have been one of the greatest “sit down and shut up” moments in recent sports history. In honor of the Trinidad and Tobago performance, we decided to recap some of the greatest trash-talkers in recent memory.

5. Marshall Henderson, Ole Miss University

Though not nearly as well known as some of the other list inclusions, Henderson is one of the most polarizing. Check out this highlight of him after beating Auburn on their home court during the 2012-2013 college basketball season. Yes, that is a very unapologetic Henderson taunting the entire student section after making two free throws. Legend.

4. Paul Pierce, Washington Wizards

Paul Pierce is no stranger to hitting game winning shots. He’s going into his 18th season in the NBA and The Truth has racked up quite a few highlights but none as memorable as his performance in Game 5 of the 2015 playoffs against the Hawks. In the video below, Pierce can be seen nailing a baseline three with 7.8 seconds to go and immediately turning to trade words with Atlanta’s bench. Ev en though the Wizards failed to recover a rebound on the next possession and lost to an easy Al Horford rebound, Pierce’s immediate jab goes down in history as one of the most demoralizing pieces of trash talk ever.

3. Richard Sherman, Seattle Seahawks

Much has already been written about Sherman and his “vocal tendencies” but the simple fact is that since his entrance into the league in the fifth round of the 2011 draft, no other player can match his 24 interceptions, his off field eloquence, or his legendary post game rants.

2. Floyd Mayweather Jr., welterweight boxer

Maybe he’s trying to carry on the legacy of the greatest heavyweight boxer and trash talker of all time, Muhammad Ali. Maybe he’s just an idiot. Stories of ill-advised Mayweather chirps abound across the internet and these days it’s hard to tell what actually came from the boxer’s mouth; that’s not the case with this video in which Mayweather clearly shows of his “I don’t care about anything you have to say” attitude to long time HBO Boxing commentator, 80 year old Larry Merchant. Merchant more than holds his own however, telling Mayweather “I wish I were 50 years younger so I could kick your ass.” See this legendary display of mouthiness below.

1. Michael Jordan, Chicago Bulls

Without including Muhammad Ali on this list, there was really no question as to who the greatest trash talker in the last twenty years is: Michael Jordan. Since His Airness took flight, stories have long circulated about the razor sharp tongue of the G.O.A.T.  Choice lines include “Shoot it you f***ing midget” to 5’3 guard Mugsy Bogues, closing his eyes during free throws, reminding opponents whose shoes they were wearing and repeatedly laying out to defenders what he was going to do and then scoring on that exact play. Jordan made his own mythos, not just with his game but his incredibly competitive spirit that drove him to not only beat opponents, but make sure they stayed beaten, verbally and physically.

In Microsoft’s Game Before the Game event, Seahawks’ Richard Sherman and Patriots’ Shane Vereen came out to the Phoenix Convention Center to play a one-on-one game of Madden 15. And being that Sherman was last year’s cover athlete, there was certainly bragging rights on the line.

The event, which is fully titled Microsoft’s Game Before the Game on Xbox One Super Bowl Edition, had all type of NFL fans come out to watch the match-up with celebrity football super fan — and the Pro Bowl’s national anthem singer — Jordin Sparks hosting.

At the end of the virtual scuffle, the Patriots running back came out on top, beating the  famous trash talking cornerback with some peculiar offensive packages. According to the Patriots’ blog, Vereen wants Coach Belichick to avoid his game plan: “Don’t beat him the way I did in Madden. I tried some very risky things, some of them worked some of them didn’t work. But it was a fun event —€” you can’€™t take anything away from it. I just think Sunday, we’€™re going to have to play our game, and we’€™re going to have to play tough.”

And when asked if he consistently gave himself the rock, Vereen responded “They didn’t update the rosters so I couldn’t. I tried to force-feed myself when I was in a couple times but you can only do so much.”
