New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman gave a locker room interview in an Israeli team’s baseball cap to show solidarity with the victims of the Pittsburgh shooting that saw the deaths of 11 people of Jewish faith on Oct. 27. Edelman and the Patriots won a primetime matchup against the Green Bay Packers just before his interview.

Julian Edelman Dons Israel Baseball Cap After Shooting

“I just want to let people in Pittsburgh know, that I’m thinking about them,” Edelman said of the victims of the Tree of Life Synagogue shooting while wearing his hat. “It was a big hit to the community and it’s uncalled for, so I’m just letting them know, hey, I’m behind you and I’m supporting you.”
The hat was worn by team Israel during the 2015 World Baseball Classic and has a white Star of David on the dome.

Edelman’s father is Jewish and has visited Israel in the past to honor his roots.

Edelman famously helped stop a potential school shooting earlier this year. In April, a fan alerted Edelman of a threatening comment on his Instagram page, and the wide receiver promptly notified his assistant in Boston.
