Philadelphia Eagles offensive lineman Josh Sills has been indicted in Ohio on first-degree felony rape and kidnapping charges. In an incident that occurred in December 2019, Sills is accused of forcing a woman to perform oral sex on him and refusing to release her until she did so.

The 25-year-old Ohio native was indicted by a grand jury in the Guernsey County Common Pleas Court, and the Ohio attorney general’s office announced his indictment Wednesday. He will be summoned to appear in court on Feb. 16.

“Sills engaged in sexual activity that was not consensual and held a victim against her will,” the attorney general’s office said in a statement. “The crime was immediately reported, and the Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office conducted a detailed investigation.

Following an extensive investigation, police reports accuse Sills of forcing a woman to perform oral sex “for 20 minutes” while physically restraining her, removing her pants and groping her. He also allegedly told her that he would not allow her to leave until she had performed the act.

The incident was reported to the Sheriff’s office in Guernsey County soon after it took place, allowing investigators to thoroughly look into the matter. The attorney general’s office also said that the “Special Prosecutions Section” would be prosecuting the case.

The NFL has barred Sills from competing for the Eagles against the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl on Feb. 12. The rookie offensive lineman has served in a backup role for Philadelphia all season, making one regular season appearance in October. He played college football at Oklahoma State and West Virginia University.

The Eagles released a statement following the attorney general’s announcement, expressing an intent to monitor the situation closely.

“The organization is aware of the legal matter involving Josh Sills,” the Eagles statement said. “We have been in communication with the league office and are in the process of gathering more information. We have no further comment at this time.”

The Famous Idaho Potato Bowl is set to kickoff at 3:30 p.m. ET Friday, January 3, on ESPN. The matchup features the Ohio Bobcats (6-6) and the Nevada Wolfpack (7-5). It will be the first time in history these two schools will play each other as they meet in Albertsons Stadium in Boise, Idaho.

On Saturday the Armed Forces Bowl will showcase the Tulane Green Wave (6-6) and the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles (7-5). They meet on January 4, at 11:30 a.m. ET on ESPN at the Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas.

Famous Idaho Potato Bowl scenarios:

Ohio: Quarterback Nathan Rourke will play the final game in his impressive college career. The senior compiled 20 touchdowns with only five interceptions and a career high in passing yards with 2,676. On top of that Rourke rushed for 780 yards and 12 touchdowns making him an exciting player to watch. He will go down as one of the best players to ever suit up for the Bobcats with a pass efficiency of 146.9 and the all time leader in touchdowns with 108. The senior will also finish his career with the most points scored in Bobcat history. Look for Rourke to put on a show.

Nevada: They have a pretty solid running game with Toa Taua and Devonte Lee combining for 1200 yards and 12 touchdowns this season averaging around 4.3 yards per carry. In order to keep the game close, look for Nevada to run the ball frequently and run the clock. Another player to watch is NFL prospect and offensive tackle, Jake Nelson.  The 6’4 300 pound senior is slated to go in the later rounds of April’s NFL Draft.

However, their defense is lackluster and is ranked 70th in the country giving up 397 yards per game, according to NCAA Team Stats. If they do come away with the win it will be a major upset.

Betting Odds, according to CBS Sports:

  • Ohio vs. Nevada spread: Ohio -8
  • Ohio vs. Nevada over-under: 59.5 points
  • Ohio vs. Nevada money line: Ohio -308, Nevada +244
  • OHIO: 3-2 against the spread in last five games
  • NEV: Finished the season on a 3-1 run against the spread

Armed Forces Bowl scenarios:

Tulane: They have lost six straight games to Southern Miss and are looking to get a win against their formal rivals for the first time since 2010. Under coach Willie Fritz the Green Wave will appear in bowl games in back-to-back seasons for the second time in team history. They hope to get back on track after losing five of their last six games in the regular season. They’re 11th in the nation in rushing yards per game with 249.8, so look for Tulane to dominate in that category.

Quez Watkins is a wide receiver to keep your eyes on. The 6’2 190 pound junior was the team’s top receiver with 55 catches for 1,024 yards and five touchdowns. He is projected be find a suitor on Day 3 of the NFL Draft, according to league sources.

Southern Mississippi: Coach Jay Hopson has recorded four consecutive winning seasons since arriving in 2016. The Mississippi native attempts to win his second bowl game for the university and bring the school’s bowl game record to 12-12.

Defensive end Patrick Johnson will look to make things tough for the Green Wave offense. He had an exceptional sophomore year last season with ten sacks and 14 tackles, and the 6’3 250 pound junior looks to improve his chances of getting drafted.

Betting Odds, according to CBS Sports:

  • Tulane vs. Southern Miss spread: Green Wave -7
  • Tulane vs. Southern Miss over-under: 56.5 points
  • Tulane vs. Southern Miss money line: Green Wave -266, Golden Eagles +217
  • TUL: RB Corey Dauphine is averaging 8.1 yards per carry
  • USM: WR Tim Jones leads the team with 66 receptions

The investigation into claims that Dallas Cowboys rookie running back Ezekiel Elliott assaulted a woman is now officially underway.

Citing “conflicting statements” from Elliott, the woman and witnesses, the Columbus Police Department referred the case to the Columbus City Attorney’s office which has begun gathering evidence as the alleged victim is pursuing criminal charges.

“At this time, there is an open investigation,” Director of the Prosecution Resources Unit, Robert Tobias said in an email to ESPN.com.

“We are attempting to gather as much evidence as possible.”

Tobias offered no timetable for the conclusion of the investigation.

Elliott is expected to be in attendance at Cowboys training camp in Oxnard, California when the preseason truly begins on Saturday.

The alleged incident occurred in the early morning hours of July 22, Elliott’s 21st birthday, when a woman reported to police that Elliott assaulted her in a parked car, near the rear of a parking lot, according to the police report.

“If there is anyway that I can have an officer out on scene,” the woman said in the 911 call, published last week by TMZ. “I was going to wait until tomorrow to report it, until he left. … He’s been doing it for the past five days.”

Elliot immediately denied the claims through two individuals he entrusted to make statements on his behalf.

Stacy Elliott, his father, released a statement on the incident via Adam Schefter of ESPN.

“The reported allegations and Internet postings regarding our son are completely false,” Stacy Elliott said. “Ezekiel has done nothing wrong. The police have investigated this matter and eyewitnesses have verified the lack of any wrongdoing. The actual evidence in this matter clearly indicates what the real motivation was behind the police being called. We are confident that when the truth comes to light it will reveal the falsity of these claims. Ezekiel has been fully cooperative with the police and will continue to do so—along with cooperating with the NFL—moving forward.”

The woman who launched the accusations of assault, posted pictures of bruises to her arms and wrists on her Instagram account, including a caption that called for women to exit abusive relationships.

One of the photos tagged Elliott’s account.

“Just for every women out there getting abused it’s time to put a stop to it,” she wrote on Instagram. “This has been happening to me for months and it finally got out of control to where I was picked up and thrown across the room by my arms. Thrown into walls. Being choked to where I have to gasp for breath. Bruised everywhere, mentally and physically abused. It’s not okay. So I want each and everyone one of you girls to step away now from domestic violence. You’re worth so much more. I got told it was called “tough love” I’m sorry if you love someone you don’t touch your loved ones.”

The alleged victim’s Instagram account has since been made private.

Former Cowboy and current NFL Network Analyst Michael Irvin spoke with Elliott after the news broke and shared the rookie running back’s version of the story with NFL Network Host Rich Eisen.

“Michael, I never got within four feet of her,” Irvin recounted Elliott saying. “He sounded pretty upset about the whole situation,” Irvin told Eisen.

Elliott was selected fourth overall by owner Jerry Jones and the Cowboys at the 2016 NFL Draft, April 28. A bevy of NFL experts considered the pick a risk given the questionable durability of the running back position.

Should the charges stick, Elliott would face a six-game suspension for violation of the NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy. As of now, Elliott has not been arrested or charged with any crime.

Dallas head coach Jason Garrett is trying to let the investigation play out before making any further comment.

“I don’t want to comment too much on that,” Garrett said Tuesday. “We believe we know all about Ezekiel Elliott and what he’s all about as a person, and I think it would be premature to make any comment beyond that.”
