Miami Marlins OF Dane Myers will miss six to eight weeks with a broken ankle after he smashed it kicking a clubhouse door following an ejection in Saturday’s game against the Cincinnati Reds.

With two on and two out in the top of the frame and trailing 10-6, the home plate umpire rung Myers up for strike three as the OF attempted to check his swing. Myers wanted an appeal to first, but the umpire did not ask for one, prompting an outburst. At first glance, it appeared he had broken the plane of the plate, and his wrists went around.

Quickly, Myers gave a piece of his mind as former NL manager of the year Skip Schumaker whisked him away from the field. Cameras missed the kick that prompted the injury, but Myers told reporters what caused his injury after Sunday’s finale.

Myers has been a bright spot during a disastrous Marlins season. In 40 games played and 83 at-bats, the righty has a .265 batting average, a .337 on-base percentage, and two home runs. The former Rice hitter, who is 28 years old, is in his second pro season in the majors.

The frustration from Myers may have come from the horrendous baseball stretch seen by his team before the All-Star break. The Marlins salvaged the series with a win on Sunday to avoid being swept for the second time in six days. Miami is 3-7 in its last ten and had been losers of five in a row before Sunday’s 3-2 victory. Schmaker’s team sits an astounding 29 games out of first place at the break with the second-worst record in the MLB. Only the Chicago White Sox are worse, but the Marlins are 30 games under .500 at 33-63. Most insiders believe the 2023 wild card team will be sellers at the trade deadline with possible targets, including CF Jazz Chisholm.

The full rosters for the 2022 MLB All-Star Game have been announced. On Sunday, the names of the stars who will be taking part in the 92nd Midsummer Classic were unveiled and the rosters are stacked with talent from both the U.S. and internationally.

This year’s rosters are a smorgasbord of talent, a rainbow of diversity and a spectrum of experience. There are eight All-Stars who have been to at least six previous All-Star games and 30 first-time All-Stars. This is also the fourth straight year that the MLB has at least 30 new All-Stars. This year also marks another diverse roster with 28 internationally born All-Stars, 18 on the AL roster and 10 on the NL roster. Eleven are from the Dominican Republic, eight are from Venezuela, two are from Cuba and Puerto Rico and there are representatives from Aruba, the Bahamas, Canada, Japan and Mexico. Thirty-nine of the 66 All-Stars have diverse backgrounds, with 25 of them coming from the AL.

The AL roster is stacked with talent with the starters being catcher Alejandro Kirk from the Toronto Blue Jays, Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerro Jr, Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve, Red Sox third baseman Rafael Devers, White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson, Angels outfielder Mike Trout, Yankees outfielders Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton and Angels pitcher Shohei Ohtani rounding out the group as the designated hitter.

This is Kirk’s first All-Star selection, with every other AL starter having at least one All-Star selection under their belts. Some say that the AL’s offense is more potent, with home-run leader Judge in the lineup, as well as big-hitters such as Altuve, Ohtani, Trout and Yankees teammate Stanton in the lineup. The Yankees are also sending a league-high six players to the All-Star game including two starters. The only other team with multiple starters is the Toronto Blue Jays with Kirk and Guerrero.

The NL has quite an exciting lineup, with Cubs catcher Wilson Contreras, Cardinals first baseman Paul Goldschmidt, Marlins second baseman Jazz Chisolm Jr., Padres third baseman Manny Machado and Dodgers shortstop Trea Turner. Outfielders include Braves outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr., Dodgers fielder Mookie Betts, and Giants fielder Jon Pederson. Philadelphia Phillies right fielder Bryce Harper was voted in as the designated hitter, but due to injury, he will be replaced by Braves catcher William Contreras.

The Dodgers are the only NL team to have multiple starters which will be a pleasure for the fans to see as the game is taking place in their home park Dodger Stadium. Chisolm Jr. is the only starter who has never made the All-Star game before, whole DH Contreras also earns his first All-Star selection.

The All-Star game will take place on Tuesday, July 19 at Dodger Stadium.

Max Scherzer and Corey Kluber were named the National League and American League 2017 Cy Young Award winners, respectively on Wednesday.

Cy Young Award Winners 2017 News

The two pitchers celebrated in very different ways, however. Scherzer threw his arms in the air and screamed before kissing his wife in jubilation. Kluber, however, seemed rather stoic.

“Winning a second one maybe, for me personally, kind of validates the first one,” Kluber said.

Scherzer, the Washington Nationals’ fiery starting right-hander, has now won three Cy Youngs and two in a row. He earned 27 of the 30 first-place votes from members of the Baseball Writers’ Association of America. Scherzer easily beat out Los Angeles Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw, and said he would be drinking champagne.

Kluber won with 28 votes to beat Boston’s Chris Sale for his second AL Cy Young. His wife Amanda posted this photo of their family on Twitter:

Scherzer was 16-6 with a career-best 2.51 ERA this year. The 33-year-old righty struck out a league-leading 268 for the NL East champion Nationals.

Kluber missed a month of the season with back pain. Nevertheless, he led the majors with a 2.25 ERA, and his 18 wins tied for the most in baseball. The 31-year-old helped Cleveland win the AL Central.

He and Minnesota’s Ervin Santana tied for the major league lead with five complete games. Scherzer and Kluber both struggled in this year’s playoffs, however.

Scherzer said he couldn’t even watch the League Championship Series, although he did tune in for the World Series.

“That will eat at me this whole offseason,” he said.

The final BBWAA honors will come Thursday when the MVP awards are announced in the AL and NL.

Robinson Cano homered lead off the tenth inning and propel the American League to a 2-1 victory over the National League in Tuesday night’s All-Star Game in Miami.

Robinson Cano MLB All-Star Game 2017

The Seattle Mariners second baseman smacked a 395-foot blast to right field to record the fourth extra-inning home run in All-Star history, and the first in 50 years. Cano took home MVP honors and a Corvette for his accomplishment.

“You come here and as a kid you watch (Ken) Griffey (Jr.) and all those guys that come to the All-Star Game, winning MVP. You want to get that feeling,” Cano said. “I already got it once for the Home Run Derby. I want to have this feeling.”

Griffey and Ichiro Suzuki are the only two other Mariners to win MVP (in 1992 and 2007, respectively).

The AL and NL combined for 23 strikeouts and were tied 1-1 after nine innings on Tuesday.

Cano, 34, was named to the AL All-Star team as an injury replacement for fellow Dominican Starlin Castro of the New York Yankees, Cano’s former team. Cano joined the Mariners in 2014 after eight seasons with the Yankees.

The MVP was the AL’s third choice at second base after Jose Altuve and Jonathan Schoop.

Schoop scored the AL’s first run of the game by firing a two-out double in the fifth. He scored on a blooper by Miguel Sano that fell just inside the right-field line and out of reach of Bryce Harper. St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina tied it for the NL with a solo homer to deep right-center field in the sixth.

Late Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez — who died in a boating accident in September 2016, was also honored at Marlins Park on Tuesday night. Several of the deceased players’ teammates said kinds words about him before the game, and even opponents like the Washington Nationals’ Harper wore special cleats with Fernandez’s picture on them.

The outcome of this year’s All-Star Game did not determine home field advantage for the World Series, which is why both managers said prior to the contest that every player would have an opportunity to play on Tuesday.

Nationals' Wilson Ramos Suffers Knee Injury in 14-4 Loss to D-backs

The Washington Nationals’ pursuit of the team’s first World Series Championship was just delivered a major blow.

Nationals’ Wilson Ramos Out For Season With Torn ACL

Wilson Ramos will miss the rest of the season with a torn right ACL, manager Dusty Baker announced Tuesday.

The catcher injured himself during Monday’s 14-4 home loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks. Ramos awkwardly landed on his right knee while attempting to catch an errant throw. Upon landing, he fell to the ground and began clutching his knee, and was eventually helped off the field by team trainers.

“There’s never an opportune time,” Baker said. “This was the most inopportune time for this to happen.”

The 29-year-old Venezuelan was having a very great season, batting .307 with 22 home runs and 80 RBI and had a .850 on-base plus slugging percentage over 131 games. Ramos suffered the same injury to the right knee in 2012. He is meeting with doctors to schedule a date for surgery.

Washington will now turn to Jose Lobaton and Pedro Severino as they close out the season and prepare for the playoffs.

“We’ll really miss his offense,” Baker said of Ramos. “I told him: ‘Hey man, you and Daniel Murphy, particularly you two guys carried us to this point. Now it’s up to some of the other guys to take us to the next level and then the next level after that.”

The Nationals currently hold the second-best record in the National League. Ramos is set to become a free agent after the season and could demand a big payday.

Washington has suffered several other injuries recently. Outfielder Bryce Harper is nursing an injured thumb, second baseman Murphy has a gluteral strain, and right-handed pitcher Stephen Strasburg has been out indefinitely with a right forearm strain.

Harper has denied reports that he’s injured, although that would explain why the reigning NL MVP has put up lackluster numbers this season.
