Aaron Rodgers is showing the Jets that he still has some left in the tank – he found receiver Garrett Wilson along the sidelines on the first play of practice, causing fans in attendance to erupt. Rodgers took the time to display some mobility by rolling right to extend a play, throwing a strike to Breece Hall. Tyler Conklin caught a fourth-down pass from A-Rod to move the sticks, setting up Allen Lazard for a walk-off touchdown grab. The signal caller completed nine for 12  passes in team periods while going three for three during a seven-on-seven period.

Rodgers’ stellar outing at practice is what the Jets need to get over the hump. Zach Wilson, Trevor Sieman and Tim Boyle took turns playing under center during Rodgers’ injury – as a result of their subpar play, the Jets were last in the league in red zone scoring percentage at 32.4 percent.

“As a safety back there in the middle, he tests me in all types of ways, making you play true to your technique,” said Chuck Clark. Clark is familiar with practicing against an MVP quarterback as he spent five seasons with Lamar Jackson in Baltimore.

Rookie quarterback Jordan Travis is recovering from a broken leg injury that he suffered in November 2023 during Florida State’s playoff push, so it will take a little longer for him to be activated.

In the meantime, Ben Bryant and Andrew Peasley will compete for the third-string job. Offensive lineman Alijah Vera-Tucker made his debut during practice while Morgan Moses is expected to return next week.

Rodgers was heavily criticized for missing days of minicamp to take a trip to Egypt.

FOXBOROUGH, MASSACHUSETTS - DECEMBER 21: Nick Folk #2 of the New England Patriots celebrates after scoring a field goal against the Buffalo Bills at Gillette Stadium on December 21, 2019 in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

As a Patriots fan one of my most vivid memories of watching them play for the past 15 years (besides the three Super Bowls) is when Stephen Gostkowski went from an incredibly consistent kicker to mediocre almost over night.

It was during the 2015 AFC Championship that the Patriots played against Peyton Manning‘s Broncos and while I can’t remember the exact play, I remember it being the first time Gostkowski missed an extra point. It was shocking, other than my Dad, Gostkowski has been the most consistent thing in my life. But from there it was all down hill.

After five more painful years where you feel unsettled during every extra point and field goal over 40 yards, the Pat’s benched Gostkowski last year “due to an injury” and used a shaky rotating cast of free agent kickers but never managed to find the right fit. With the 2020 season just three weeks away, that still seems to be the case.

“I think we’re in position, hopefully, to string some good days together and have a lot of little things start to fit together in the overall big picture,” Bill Belichick said. The Patriots have brought back the kicker that they landed on last year Nick Folk to compete with rookie Justin Rohrwasser for the starting position. While Folk was consistent last year, he wasn’t spectacular – you can’t really trust him beyond 40 yards.

The most underrated part of football team is a reliable kicker that you never have to worry about and can hit clutch kicks. It is crippling when you have a game-winning drive down two or score a touchdown to bring the score to one and your kicker comes on the field and shanks a 35-yard extra point or field goal then runs of the field before the fans in the stadium can process what happened and start pelting him with plastic beer cups. Unfortunately, it’s an experience that most teams have to endure – just ask the Bears, Ravens, Bills and Vikings.

Bengals WR AJ Green Has Non-Serious Knee Injury vs Jaguars

In what seems to be a yearly tradition, Cincinnati Bengals All-Pro receiver A.J. Green is hurt again. This time, before the season even begins.

Green, the most important cog for the Bengals offensively, is expected to miss 6-8 weeks after suffering torn ankle ligaments during a Bengals practice in Dayton, Ohio.

The seven-time Pro Bowler needed to be carted off the field after landing awkwardly trying to make a catch during 7-on-7 drills during Saturday’s open practice. After getting an MRI, Green was seen walking around on crutches.

The real drama in this story is that the open practice instead of being held at the practice fields next to Paul Brown Stadium. Instead, the Bengals held their practice in Dayton as a part of the NFL’s 100th-anniversary celebration of the 13 original cities to host a professional football team.

According to Sports Illustrated, there were already questions about the field before Green injured himself.

After working there for an hour on Saturday, several Bengals staffers were frustrated that Green’s injury happened on a field that they saw as subpar. One mentioned that players were sliding all over the place during what was a shorter-than-usual camp practice. Another saw pebbles lodged into the turf.

Tyler Boyd, another receiver for the Bengals, also had issues with the conditions of the field, calling them terrible.

“The turf was terrible. I couldn’t run any routes out there. I’m falling all over the ground. It was bad. It was rocks, pebbles out there. Man, it was somewhere we shouldn’t have been. I’m not trying to say any excuses, but it is what it is.”

Green, 31, only missed a combined four games during his first five NFL seasons but has now missed a combined 13 games the past three seasons with more missed games to come this season as well.

It’s that time of the year again. With the summer’s heat pounding down and the upcoming season’s pressure adding weight as well, the NFL’s backbreaking training camps commenced this week. As the season nears closer, players now look to solidify themselves apart their respective teams, coaches aim to mold rosters into winning squads, and fans trip over each other for autographs. With all the madness well in motion, take a look into camp and its most intriguing component, the quarterback competitions.

As the quarterback continues to hold the title as the most important position on gridiron, the battles to attain that starting job carry extreme gravity. Across the board a “young vs old” battle commences for multiple clubs this week. NFC East teams such as the New York Giants and the Washington Redskins both added quarterbacks in this draft, Daniel Jones for New York and Dwayne Haskins for Washington. DJ faces off against an aging, but still two-time Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning. Meanwhile, Haskins battles journeyman Case Keenum.

For Haskins, his 50 touchdowns caught Washington’s eyes draft night. However, experience obviously favors Keenum over Haskins. Although last year served as a blemish upon his record as the Broncos missed the playoffs once more, Keenum lead the Minnesota Vikings to the NFC Championship and remained within the MVP conversation throughout the year prior to that.

When the Giants took Jones at number six overall, greater criticisms came alongside him than Haskins, as many believe the Giants selected the Duke product far earlier than necessary. At the colligate level, Jones posted an admirable 131. 7 passer rating, however his case mirrors Washingtons’s, as Manning holds an experience based advantage. But with his decline becoming clear and the team’s apparent faith regarding Jones, it’s a more of a matter of “when” than “if” Jones replaces Manning.

After the Arizona Cardinals pulled the trigger to select Kyler Murray first overall, the team’s prior first round pick lost his footing with the team, as they promptly traded Josh Rosen to the Miami Dolphins. In Miami, Rosen opposes veteran journeyman Ryan Fitzpatrick. Although faltering during the season’s second half, Fitzpatrick threw the ball with the best of ‘em during his first games while playing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The gunslinger also put up noteworthy numbers four years ago while playing for the New York Jets, throwing for 3,905 yards. Rosen struggles appeared evident his rookie year with Arizona. Paring an 11 touchdowns to 14 interceptions, he eyes a fresh start, hoping to prove his worth as the former 10th overall pick.

Out West, Joe Flacco enters a bout with another rookie, Drew Lock. The ex–Missouri Tiger owned an impressive 28/8 touchdown to interception ratio last year, warranting the Broncos to select him with the 42nd overall pick. Before injury, last year Flacco earned a mediocre 84.2 passer rating. Now healthy, he looks resurge back into a starting role. Flacco, who once marched the Baltimore Ravens to a Super Bowl title, looks to avoid another rookie outperforming him for the second season, as Lamar Jackson’s emergence last year for Baltimore basically sent him packing.

Fight breaks out between Chargers and Rams at joint training camp practice

Los Angeles’ two NFL teams haven’t even begun sharing a stadium yet, but the cross-town rivalry between them is already brewing.

Rams vs. Chargers Training Camp Fight Video

A fight broke out between several Chargers and Rams players on Wednesday during a joint training camp practice at UC Irvine. Both teams are expected to play in the Los Angeles Stadium at Hollywood Park in Inglewood, California starting in 2020. The venue’s construction has been delayed due to heavy rainfall.

The Chargers officially launched their “Fight for L.A.” campaign Wednesday with the release of a two-minute video that pays tribute to the city and that will air on television soon after spreading on social media.

The first skirmish began during one of the first one-one-drills of the afternoon between Rams cornerback Trumaine Johnson and Chargers receiver Dontrelle Inman. Both attempted to grab a long pass from Philip Rivers and pulled each other to the ground as the ball fell. After standing up and exchanging a few angry words, Johnson threw off his helmet and punched Inman in the head.

“Man, I don’t know,” Inman said when asked if his team was taking the “Fight for L.A.” video literally. “Sometimes you put it out there, you believe in it, and that’s how we’re rolling.”

An all-out brawl ensued as Chargers receiver Keenan Allen, Rams defensive back Nickell Robey-Coleman got involved, and later Rams cornerback E.J. Gaines and Chargers receiver Jamaal Jones also broke into a scuffle and Chargers defensive end Chris McCain also entered the fray.

Lisa Lane of FOXSports San Diego shared a video of the first fight:

Lindsey Thiry of the Los Angeles Times tweeted footage of the second fight:

After McCain got involved, Chargers coach Anthony Lynn decided he’d seen enough and kicked the defensive end out of practice.

“At some point, you have to make an example out of somebody,” Lynn said. “We weren’t gonna fight all day.”

However, Lynn explained why he didn’t request to stop the practice there.

“You know, I don’t want to just get on the bus and go home,” he said. “I like to work through things, and that’s what we did. … We had a productive practice after all the fighting and everyone settled down.”

First-year Rams coach Sean McVay, meanwhile, did not sound worried about the fisticuffs.

“I’ve been a part of something like this when we practiced against the Texans in Washington,” said McVay. “Fortunately nobody got hurt as a result of it. We’ll try to be mindful of those things moving forward.”

The Rams and Chargers won’t play each other during the upcoming regular season, but will face off in a preseason game on Aug. 26 at the Rams’ Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

“I think we’ve built a nice little rivalry against the Rams,” said Chargers running back Melvin Gordon. “That’s kind of what I got out of today.”

The New York Giants wide receiver — who is entering his fourth NFL season — channeled the late King of Pop at the team’s training camp practice on Tuesday. When Jackson’s “The Way You Make Me Feel” began blaring on the speakers  on the team’s practice field during a TV timeout, 24-year-old Beckham immediately busted out his dancing moves:

Beckham performed several of Jackson’s classic dance moves: the hip thrust, the finger snapping, the heel kick. Now we just have to wait and see if the wideout will replicate them once the regular season begins.

Earlier this year, the wideout got a tattoo of Jackson on his lower right leg.

No updates on a new contract for Beckham have yet surfaced, as Giants owner John Mara and general manager Jerry Reese have both been very vague about how much longer the receiver could stay with the team.

In April, the Giants exercised Beckham’s fifth-year option. Beckham — a three-time Pro Bowl selection— signed a record deal with Nike earlier this offseason and recently said he wanted to be the league’s highest-paid player.

In 2014, the former first-round draft pick out of LSU led the NFL in yards per game with 108.8. to win 2014 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors.

With the NFL currently on hiatus, football lovers have nothing to help them forget about their monotonous jobs. Well, with training camp just three weeks away — it officially begins on July 29 — bored fans could prepare for the preseason by getting the latest training camp gear at the NFL shop.

The NFL Shop has the latest shirts, shorts, hats and more, which are also officially worn by the athletes, coaches and personnel. Best of all, the store has distinct items from all 32 teams, so even the smaller market fans have plenty to enjoy.

The shirts vary from nice polos, which have the teams’ logos and colors, to workout tops made from Dri-Fit technology — the material keeps the wearer cool or dry, depending upon the situation. As for the hats, the options are endless: with some teams offering bucket hats, straw hats, skull caps, visors and more.

But probably the coolest item is a pair of the Nike NFL practice wear shorts, which is only offered by a certain amount of teams. These comfortable gym shorts use Dri-Fit technology, are also worn by the athletes and cost anywhere from $35 to $50.

So whether you want to support your team or train with your team’s best workout gear, the best option is to shop at the NFL store.
