Julian Edelman, 34, is unlikely to play in the 2021 season. According to the Boston Herald, the wide receiver is uncertain to play because of a knee injury.

Edelman has been with the New England Patriots since being drafted in 2009. The wide receiver was an integral piece in New England’s dynasty that won three championships. The wide receiver was named Super Bow LIII MVP.

Unfortunately, Edelman’s production has gone downhill due to some significant injuries. Edelman could undergo surgery, but that will only provide temporary relief. It will not solve the underlying issues within his knee. In October, the wide receiver underwent a procedure that relieved some issues, but he did not return to the field, despite participating in practice.

Edelman could possibly play in a game next season, but any further damage to his knee would likely end his season (or even more likely his career). Edelman currently has a $6.1 million cap hit on the team’s salary cap this season. Furthermore, the wideout only has a year left on his contract if New England were going to part ways with the veteran, now would be the time.

The Patriots could afford to release the wideout since the team has signed receivers Nelson Agholor and Kendrick Bourne in the offseason. Additionally, they still have 2019 first-round pick N’Keal Harry, plus Jakobi Meyers showed brief flashes of strong play last season during Edelman’s absence. Not to mention, New England added two top-notch tight ends in Hunter Henry and Jonnu Smith. The Patriots’ revamped offense means that the team could survive without Edelman’s services in 2021, something that nobody could ever say until now.

In 2019, the former Super Bowl MVP played a full season and tallied 100 receptions for a total of 1,117 yards. That being said, New England’s quarterback situation looked drastically different in 2019 than it does now, as the mighty Tom Brady was still under center. Last season, Edelman’s production took a big hit with Cam Newton as the signal caller. Edelman missed the majority of the season due to the knee injury and managed to suit up for just six games (he only started one game). Edelman recorded a meager 21 receptions for 315 receiving yards and failed to find the end zone. It was his worst statistical output since the 2012 season.

It is hard to imagine the gutsy, tough-minded Edelman calling it quits. But perhaps it is time for the soon-to-be 35-year-old to hang up his cleats.

Nelson Agholor's Miscues Lead Eagles to 26-15 Loss to Seahawks

The New England Patriots‘ eventful offseason has just added its newest piece.

The Patriots have signed veteran wide receiver Nelson Agholor to a two-year deal worth $26 million. Agholor had previously played for the Philadelphia Eagles and Las Vegas Raiders. The Eagles drafted him in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft, and with them he went on to win Super Bowl LII in the 2017-2018 season against the Patriots. He was signed in free agency prior to the 2020 season by the Raiders, where he posted a career-high 896 receiving yards as well as tying his career-high for receiving touchdowns with eight.

This move makes sense for the Patriots, who were bereft of weapons at the wide receiver position last season. Their leading receiver was Jakobi Meyers, who totaled 729 yards. Poor drafting of eventual busts such as N’Keal Harry and lack of previous free agent acquisitions has led the Patriots to having one of the worst wide receiver cores over the past few seasons, ranking 27th in receiving in the NFL last season. The Patriots are also entering their second season without Tom Brady at the helm, and with Cam Newton making a return on a one-year deal, they need more weapons like Agholor if they want to return to the playoffs.

Agholor is not the only move that general manager and head coach Bill Belichick made this offseason. The Patriots also signed tight end Jonnu Smith, linebacker Matthew Judon and cornerback Jalen Mills. The Patriots finished last season at 7-9, their first losing season since 2000, and good enough for third place in the AFC East. With the Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins both on the rise, these moves are crucial for the Patriots to compete for a playoff spot.

The Las Vegas Raiders are planning to release wide reciever Tyrell Williams when the new league year begins.

Williams signed a four-year, $44.4 million contract in 2019 to join the Raiders. In his first season with the team, he had 42 catches for 651 yards and six touchdowns. In that same season, he dealt with plantar fasciitis in his feet, which slowed him down. He was forced to miss two games as a result of the injury.

Williams was healthy at the start of the 2020 season but unfortunately suffered a torn labrum in his shoulder. At training camp before the injury, he was very excited to play. The wide receiver remarked, “I feel fast, feel back to myself, so, glad to feel that way, finally kind of past that.” Unfortunately, the shoulder injury caused him to miss the entire season.

When the injury occurred, Raiders coach John Gruden said, “Tyrell just couldn’t, unfortunately, stay healthy.”

The team cannot release the wide receiver until March 17, when the new league year begins. That’s when the team is able to cut him for salary cap purposes. Las Vegas will save $11.6 million if they release Williams from the team.

Las Vegas currently has other options at the wide receiver position. They drafted two wide receivers last year. Additionally, former Eagles WR Nelson Agholor had a breakout season for the Raiders. Agholor recorded 48 catches for a career-high 896 yards and eight touchdowns. So, the team will be able to use the free money to re-sign Agholor to the team.

Nelson Agholor's Miscues Lead Eagles to 26-15 Loss to Seahawks

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Nelson Agholor proved this week he knows how to take criticism from fans, especially when there are larger issues at stake.

Agholor, 26, struggled to catch passes during the Eagles’ 27-24 home loss against the Detroit Lions on Sunday, and one fan couldn’t help but take a jab at the former first-round pick after performing a heroic act in Philadelphia.

Hakim Laws, a Philadelphia native, helped rescue people from a burning building on the city’s west side early Monday morning and was interviewed by a local news station about the intensity of the scene. Laws described what he did to save children from the fire and made an analogy to mock Agholor’s latest receiving performance.

“My man just started throwing babies out the window,” Laws told ABC-6 in Philadelphia. “And we was catching ‘em, unlike Agholor and his mishaps, I’d like to put that out there.”

The hashtag #unlikeAgholor quickly began trending on social media following Laws’ comment.

Agholor responded to Laws’ dig at him with a classy tweet in which he thanked the fan for being a “hero in the community.” The wide receive also invited Laws and his family to attend the Eagles’ next home game.

Agholor dropped multiple passes during his first few seasons with the Eagles — whom he joined in 2015 — but has since improved. He helped lead the team to a Super Bowl victory after the 2017 season.

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Nelson Agholor committed several costly errors that led his team to lose to the Seahawks 26-15 in Seattle on Sunday.

Nelson Agholor’s Errors Costly In Eagles’ 26-15 Loss To Seahawks

The Eagles seemed to gain the lead on a 57-yard catch-and-run by tight end Zach Ertz midway through the second quarter. On the opposite side of the play, nevertheless, they were called for an illegal formation; Agholor had appeared to line up behind the line of scrimmage. Philadelphia punted two plays later.

On the subsequent series, Agholor– a 2015 first-round pick (20th overall) out of USC– dropped a perfect pass from quarterback Carson Wentz deep over the middle, thus stalling another drive. The Seahawks then extended their lead to nine over that span and trampled the injury-filled Eagles offense the rest of the way.

“I’ve got to get out of my own head,” said Agholor, a 23-year-old who was born in Nigeria. “Pressing so much and worried about so much. … I’m thinking too much and so worried, and it’s such a selfish thing that I need to stop. I need to give my energy to my teammates and this organization and not myself, and feeling so pressured to make every single thing. Just have fun.

“I did it to myself. I started getting in my own head and just trying so hard to think about being perfect, and when miscues were there and they were exposed, I just let it eat at me.”

The Eagles’ top two running backs both left with injuries– Ryan Matthews (knee) and Darren Sproles (ribs). Working against one of the top defenses in the NFL, Wentz finished 23 of 45 for 218 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.

Agholor entered the game ranked 120th in receiving yards (264) and with a drop rate of 6.5 percent, which ranks 125th in the NFL, per ESPN Stats & Information research.

The wideout now has four drops this season. He recently came under fire for his post-game comments after one of those drops against the Cowboys, when he said, in part, “I dropped the first one. I didn’t drop one after that. What does it matter?” Coach Doug Pederson later expressed his disappointment in his player’s remarks.

“I’m going to keep encouraging him,” Pederson said following the Seattle loss. “He works hard every single day. … By no means am I going to be down on him. This loss today was on me. I have to make sure that I am doing everything I can to get these guys ready to play.”

The Eagles (5-5) will next host the Green Bay Packers on Monday, Nov. 28. The Seahawks (7-2-1), meanwhile, will visit the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.

Nigel Bradham: Jacksonville Jaguars v Buffalo Bills

Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Nigel Bradham turned himself in to Miami Police on Monday, two days before full training camp begins at the Novacare Complex in South Philly.

Bradham was charged with aggravated assault, a second-degree felony, after striking a hotel employee in the face, according to the police report from Miami Beach Police Department.

Eagles LB Charged With Assault After Punching Hotel Employee

The incident occurred Thursday at the Hilton Bentley South Beach Hotel in Miami, where Bradham and a group of friends were eating.

Bradham complained after he felt his table was not receiving the proper service.

“The victim & defendant were involved in a verbal altercation as a result of the victim’s speed of service that escalated when the defendant, without provocation, struck the victim in the nose with a closed fist, causing the victim to fall to the ground,” the police report stated. “Other members of the defendant’s group joined in the attack.”

After the altercation was over, Bradham and his group fled the scene.

NIGEL BRADHAM TALKS ABOUT ANKLE INJURY

The victim, who suffered a broken nose as a result of Bradham’s punch, identified the Philadelphia linebacker when shown photographs of potential suspects.

A witness also identified Bradham “without hesitation,” according to the police report.

“We are aware of the recent incident involving Nigel Bradham,” the Eagles said in a statement released Wednesday. “We have been in contact with Nigel and the proper authorities. Due to the ongoing legal process, the Eagles will have no further comment at this time.”

Bradham was brought to Philadelphia by new defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz, whom he had played for as DC for the Buffalo Bills, signing a two-year, $7 million contract in March.

The 6-foot-2, 241-pounder totaled 174 tackles in his four years in Buffalo, with 3.5 sacks. Bradham, 26, was drafted out of Florida State in the fourth round of the 2012 NFL Draft.

In 2015, he played in 11 games, tallying 42 tackles and one sack.

Bradham’s first court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 2, which coincides with the Eagles first off-day from training camp.

The linebacker’s arrest is the second brush with the law for Philadelphia this offseason.

On the final day of mini-camp, second-year wide receiver Nelson Agholor was accused of sexual assault by a dancer from a Philadelphia gentlemen’s club.

Investigations by the district attorney’s office and police department yielded no charges for Agholor.

Both Bradham and Agholor are expected to attend the opening of Eagles training camp Wednesday.

Philadelphia’s new head coach, Doug Pederson said he does not plan to punish Bradham for the incident.

“What I want to do is get more information from South Florida,” Pederson said after practice Wednesday. “We’re not going to punish him. We’re going to have him come in here, let him practice.”
