Cleveland Browns Pro Bowl defender Myles Garrett was given a speeding ticket last month.

Garrett was clocked for going 94 mph in a 70 mph zone. This is Garrett’s ninth speeding ticket since entering the league in 2017.

Garrett is supposed to appear in court on March 10. However, his court date will be canceled if he pays the fine in full beforehand. 

The Browns drafted Garrett with the No. 1 pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. In his first season, injuries limited him to just 11 games. In 2018, he played in all 16 games and made his first career Pro Bowl appearance. 

Injuries again limited Garrett in 2019, who played just 10 games. In 2020, he made the Pro Bowl and helped the Browns end their 17-year playoff drought. He’s made the Pro Bowl every season since 2020.

His health has significantly improved since 2020. From 2021 to 2025, he’s only missed two games. He’s played in all 17 games for two straight seasons. 

Garrett is a two-time Defensive Player of the Year. He won his first award in 2023, when he led the league in approximate value with 20. He also won the award this season. He had 23 sacks and 33 tackles for loss to lead the league.

Garrett set the all-time record for sacks in a season. The previous record was set by T.J Watt with the Steelers in 2021, who had 22.5. This mark tied Michael Strahan, who had 22.5 sacks for the New York Giants in 2001. It’s important to note that Strahan did this in a 16-game season, compared to Watt and Garrett, who had 17 games.  

The Browns will look to improve their fortunes under their new head coach, Todd Monken, who was previously the Ravens’ offensive coordinator.  

Yet again another Browns season in the books with revolving quarterback issues, injuries and lots of questions heading into the offseason. The Cleveland Browns went 3-14 in 2024, earning them the second pick in the NFL draft, and head into the offseason with lots to think about. Quarterback Deshaun Watson suffered a season-ending torn Achilles against the Cincinnati Bengals in week 7, leaving the Browns to start Jameis Winston, who signed with the Browns in the offseason. The team would lose eight of their next 10 games in the regular season, resulting in another underwhelming season.

Heading into the offseason, the Browns had significant question marks surrounding key players like Myles Garrett and Nick Chubb, particularly regarding their future with the team. Garrett ended up signing a four-year extension worth up to $40 million a year, making him the highest non-quarterback paid player in the NFL. The Browns didn’t stop there; they signed several free agents like defensive tackle Maliek Collins, offensive tackle Teven Jenkins, and traded for quarterback Kenny Pickett, a former first-round pick. The team also brought back quarterback Joe Flacco, who had led the team to the playoffs in the 2023 season before signing with the Indianapolis Colts the following offseason. However, the Browns’ biggest offseason move was letting fan favorite running back Nick Chubb walk and not resigning him.

Heading into the NFL draft with the second overall pick, the Browns had a huge decision to make. Names like Travis Hunter or Shedeur Sanders were rumored to be their selection before the Browns decided to trade down with the Jacksonville Jaguars to the fifth overall pick and select defensive tackle Mason Graham out of Michigan. The Browns got a lot in return, getting a first-round pick in next year’s draft as well as the 36th overall pick in the 2024 draft, where they selected running back Quinshon Judkins out of Ohio State. The Browns weren’t done in this draft. The Browns also took two quarterbacks, including Dillon Gabriel out of Oregon in the third round, and Shedeur Sanders out of Colorado in the fifth round after having one of the most significant draft day slides in NFL history. The Browns now head into next season with five quarterbacks on the roster who all have a chance to be their week one starter in 2025.

With all the publicity from Shedeur Sanders, the Browns will have a big decision on who to start in week one versus their division rival, the Cincinnati Bengals. The Browns have the 13th most brutal schedule, according to Fox Sports, playing five playoff teams from the previous season in their first six games. The Browns’ most anticipated match-up will come vs the Titans in week 14 when they play Cam Ward, who was the first overall pick in this year’s draft. The matchup will potentially see the two most hyped quarterbacks from the draft, with Ward and Sanders if he earns the starting job. With no clear starting quarterback or sense of who this team I,s the Browns will be battle tested this entire season while they try to win their division for the first time in franchise history.

The Cleveland Browns haven’t budged since defensive star Myles Garrett made his trade request earlier this week. But with Garrett interested in competing with a contender, Cleveland may be stuck as other defensive stars begin to reconsider their own plans. 

“I want to be in Cleveland,” Browns cornerback Denzel Ward told Cleveland.com this week. “I want to win. I’m definitely keeping an eye on what Myles has going on and what he’s doing. I’m just interested in seeing how everything plays out. Like I said, I want to play with Myles Garrett, and we’ve just got to wait and see.”

It’s easy to see Garrett going to any number of teams, as the six-time Pro-Bowler would instantly improve any defense in the NFL. The Lions and Commanders both stand out as win-now contenders looking for defensive upgrades. The Raiders and Patriots, on the other hand, are rebuilding teams with clear paths to imminent improvement. The Browns, by comparison, are in stasis.

Losing Garrett means more than losing him as a player for Cleveland. Giving in to his request to play for a “contender” will mark the end of yet another failed era. Admitting that there isn’t a way forward in the near future and giving away their best player will likely doom the Browns to multiple losing seasons as they stockpile the draft picks necessary to rebuild.

The team’s problems have nothing to do with Garrett and hardly involve the defense at all. Quarterback Deshaun Watson still has plenty of time remaining on one of the worst contracts in NFL history. 

The offense improves each year with the help of short-term quarterbacks stepping in as starters, but these arrangements haven’t allowed the staff to create a cohesive system. A surprise run to the playoffs in 2023 didn’t lead to any momentum at all in 2024. The team seems doomed to gritty mediocrity. Even if Garrett’s trade request is a play at more money, it’s also a sign that he can see the writing on the wall. 

“I needed to relax, decompress and take some time to think about it with my family and allow myself to distance myself from the last game,” Garrett told USA Today. “After conversations with [my family] and still feeling the same way about the trajectory of the team, and also speaking with [the Browns] management about the near future and our success and playoff hopes, I felt like it was time for a transition.”

In Garrett’s rookie season in 2017, the Browns went 0-16. Cleveland bounced back to appear in the playoffs in 2020 and 2023, but they remain the only winning seasons in Garrett’s tenure. In 2024, Cleveland went 3-14.

The Cleveland Browns just added another major piece to their front four.

Defensive end Jadeveon Clowney has signed a one-year deal with the team worth up to $10 million. Clowney is heading to a Browns team which is already boasting strong defensive talent, particularly on their defensive line. Clowney will be paired with former No. 1 overall pick Myles Garrett, who has become one of the most dominant pass rushers in the NFL, recording 12 sacks last season. This is the Browns’ second major free agency move for their defensive line, as they picked up pass rusher Takk McKinley in March.

Clowney spent last season on a one-year deal with the Tennessee Titans, where he had a down season, recording only 19 tackles and zero sacks in eight games before being sidelined for the remainder of the year with a knee injury. Following his signing with the Browns, Clowney spoke about his frustration of being routinely double-teamed in his career, and hopes that with Garrett alongside him, he will be able to have more one-on-one matchups.

Clowney was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft by the Houston Texans, and spent five seasons rushing alongside Canton-bound defensive end J.J. Watt. The Texans made the playoffs in three of his seasons, but never made it beyond the Divisional Round. Clowney now joins a Cleveland team that is fresh off their best season in recent memory, going 11-5 in the 2020 regular season and upsetting their AFC North rival Pittsburgh Steelers on Wild Card Weekend before falling to the Kansas City Chiefs the following week.

With Clowney now in the mix, the Browns will certainly continue to be a contender in the AFC.

The Cleveland Browns were able to finish their season with a win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, and setting up a rematch in the wild card round. The game ended with Browns’ defensive end Myles Garrett and Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph making up with one another.

In 2019, Garrett and Rudolph had gotten into a physical altercation with one another. During the altercation, Garrett hit Rudolph with his own helmet. The defensive end was fined more than $45,000 and was suspended for the final six games of the season. The Steelers’ quarterback was fined $50,000 for his role in the altercation. The quarterback was accused of calling the Browns’ defensive end a racial slur that prompted the incident. Rudolph has denied this claim.

Following the altercation, both players have sought to make up with each other. In September, the defensive end wanted to sit down and talk it out saying, “move forward, and just being better men and football players and not letting something like that happen again.” Furthermore, he added that he had no ill intent with the Steelers quarterback. “I don’t have any grudge against [Rudolph],” he said. Rudolph had expressed willingness to talk with Garrett saying, “Happy to hear Myles out.”

They were able to meet with one another again, and it appeared that they were able to hash things out. After Sunday’s game, they exchanged words wishing each other good luck after Rudolph congratulated Garrett for their win. The defensive end then went on Twitter posting a photo of them captioning it, “Onward and Upward”. There is no doubt that everything is good between the two now.

Amidst the ongoing allegations against Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph by Cleveland Browns’ defensive end Myles Garrett regarding the alleged use of a racial slur in a game ending brawl between the two teams last season, members of the Steelers organization are taking to social media to support Rudolph.

After Garrett was seen hitting Rudolph with his helmet as the altercation began, he was suspended for the rest of the season before being reinstated. In an interview with ESPN’s Mina Kimes, Garrett again alleged that Rudolph used a racial slur that prompted his actions.

Head coach Mike Tomlin of the Pittsburgh Steelers released an official statement through the Steelers PR department.

Rudolph’s agent, Timothy Younger, has also released a statement that has hinted that legal action may be coming.

“Mr. Garrett maliciously uses this false allegation to coax sympathy, hoping to be excused for what clearly is inexcusable behavior,” part of the statement read. “Despite other players and the referee being in the immediate vicinity, there are zero corroborating witnesses – as confirmed by the NFL. Although Mr. Rudolph had hoped to move forward, it is Mr. Garrett who has decided to utter this defamatory statement – in California. He is now exposed to legal liability.”

One day after being reinstated by the NFL, Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett is speaking out again about the brawl that unfolded at the end of the Browns-Steelers November game.

Garrett was suspended indefinitely for ripping off the helmet of Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph and hitting him in the head with it. This cost Garrett the final six games of the regular season and roughly $1.2 million in pay. He was also fined $45,623.

Garrett is now alleging that Rudolph used a racial slur which prompted the brawl.

“He called me the n-word,” Garrett said in an interview on SportsCenter. “He called me a ‘stupid n-word.'”

Rudolph has called the allegation “totally untrue” and an NFL spokesman said the league “found no such evidence” that a racial slur was used.

“When he said it, it kind of sparked something, but I still tried to let it go and still walk away,” Garrett said. “But once he came back, it kind of reignited the situation. And not only have you escalated things past what they needed to be with such little time in the game left, now you’re trying to reengage and start a fight again. It’s definitely not entirely his fault; it’s definitely both parties doing something that we shouldn’t have been doing.”

Rudolph was stunned that Garrett would make such an allegation.

“I couldn’t believe it,” he said. “I couldn’t believe he would go that route after the fact.”

Both teams were fined $250,000 and a total of 33 players were disciplined with fines totaling $732,422.

Rudolph and his attorney, Tim Younger, could not be reached for comment. The Steelers deferred to their November statement which stated that Rudolph denied ever using a racial slur during the incident.

Conor McGregor has begun his comeback tour and quickly when he knocked out Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in just 40 seconds in UFC 246.

T-Mobile Arena saw an end to McGregor’s more than three-year drought and witnessed the fastest finish recorded against Cerrone.

Cerrone, who has developed a reputation for struggling in big moments, did himself no favors last night.

As for McGregor, UFC president Dana White said there should only be one foe for his next fight: the Russian, Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Nurmagomedov is set to fight Tony Ferguson on April 18 at UFC 249, but McGregor has expressed his desire to fight three times this year.

“Look, do I want to see Conor fight three times this year? Sure,” White said. “Do I want to see Masvidal against Conor? Sure. But you’ve gotta do what makes sense, too. And I just really think the Khabib-Conor fight is big for both of their legacies and obviously for the sport.”

Celebrities were out in full force last night to watch the McGregor return. Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was in attendance, as well as Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey and Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett and quarterback Baker Mayfield.

Actors Matthew McConaughey and Jeremy Renner were present, as well as Steve–O, along with Ludacris.

The Browns‘ catastrophic roller coaster of a season is finally over and Freddie Kitchens is out as head coach. In the postgame press conference the first year head coach sounded confident he would return next season and told the media, “We’ve got meetings scheduled through next week, and I’m looking forward to going to work tomorrow. They have not given me any indication of anything else. Mr. Jimmy and Dee, I think they want me to do my job, and that’s what I’m gonna do — until they tell me not to, if they tell me not to.”

Unfortunately for Kitchens that wasn’t the case. When the team’s jet landed in Cleveland following an inexcusable 33-23 loss to the 2-14 Bengals, owner Jimmy Haslam and general manager John Dorsey spoke with Kitchens at the team’s practice facility firing him after his first full season as head coach. The former understudy of Bill Parcells finished the season with a 6-10 record.

According to a team source, Jimmy and fellow owner Dee Haslam announced the decision while they were still in a meeting with Kitchens. “We thank Freddie for his hard work and commitment to this organization but did not see the success or opportunities for improvement to move forward with him as our head coach. Our focus is on hiring an exceptional leader for this football team and we will take a comprehensive approach to this process. We are excited about the core players we have to build around and develop and we look forward to bringing in a strong head coach that will put this group of players in the best position to succeed,” the Haslams said.

Since buying the team in 2012, the Haslams have now gone through six head coaches, including interims. In the last 20 years the franchise has had 12 different head coaches and terrible leadership. The last time Cleveland made the playoffs was in 2002.

Kitchens started his career with the Browns as a running back’s coach in 2018 before taking over for fired coach Hue Jackson last season. Kitchens went 5-3 in 2018 and was praised for helping Baker Mayfield break the rookie record for touchdown passes with 27.

However, the success didn’t last. There were too many distractions on and off the field including the infamous altercation between defensive end Myles Garrett and Steelers’ quarterback Mason Rudolph. Going into their second matchup of the season after Garrett was suspended for ripping off Rudolph’s helmet and striking him with it, Kitchens was seen wearing a t-shirt that read “Pittsburgh started it.” It was an immature act and just sums up what Cleveland is known for, dysfunction.

With high expectations going into the season Kitchens was unable to get the offense going and failed to keep Mayfield out of harm’s way. The second year quarterback finished with 21 interceptions and the offense ranked 22nd in efficiency, according to NFL Stats.

Sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter that the Browns have requested permission to meet with Patriots’ offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and Ravens’ offensive coordinator Greg Roman. If Cleveland can hire either of those guys it will surely be an upgrade over Kitchens.

Cleveland Browns Head Coach Freddie Kitchens was seen wearing a “Pittsburgh Started It” t-shirt at a movie on Friday just two weeks removed from the awful incident between Browns defensive tackle Myles Garrett and Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph.

In a game between the Browns and Steelers on November 14, Garrett sacked Rudolph in the fourth quarter of the game. Rudolph was then seen trying to grab Garrett’s face-mask, which lead to Garrett ripping off Rudolph’s helmet and hitting him with it. Garrett has since been suspended for the rest of the season, although he claims Rudolph directed a racial slur toward him. The league is still investigating the matter and discussing whether or not Garrett will face discipline next season.

Following the game two weeks ago Kitchens told reporters, “I’ve never seen that in my life. It’s not good.” Then he decides to pull this.

Referencing the incident with a t-shirt is something a crazed fan might do, but a head coach should not. Especially when you’re leading an organization that has had 11 different coaches in the last 20 years. He didn’t have to wear the shirt and now his team has yet another distraction to deal with.  In the press conference following the Brown’s 20-13 loss to Pittsburgh on Sunday, Kitchens told reporters, “The t-shirt didn’t have anything to do with this. I wore a t-shirt, I wore a jacket with it. My daughter told me to wear the shirt and I’d wear it again. I put a jacket on, I covered it up. I took a picture with a fan. It was as simple as that. The t-shirt didn’t cause us to give up 40-yard passes. We we’re ready to play.”

Steelers guard Ramon Foster said, “You just don’t see that from upper management. We’ve all got to grow as professionals in some sense. I’m glad Coach [Tomlin] doesn’t do anything like that. I know our coach would have never done anything like that.”

After acquiring star receivers Odell Beckham and Jarvis Landry then drafting Baker Mayfield number one overall in the 2018 NFL draft, the Browns appeared to be turning things around. But that was just on the surface. Underneath it all there was ego, inexperienced coaching and over hyped expectations. It’s not a surprise that one of the league’s worst organizations has screwed up yet again. It doesn’t look good for Kitchens who was one of the biggest question marks for football experts this season. He took over head coaching duties last year after Hugh Jackson was fired. He finished the year with a 5-3 record, but he may be out of a job after this dumpster fire of a season. These are the same old Browns just creating new problems.

A tumultuous week for Pittsburgh Steelers’ quarterback Mason Rudolph hit its climax on Sunday as he was benched due to poor performance in their 16-10 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.

Rudolph completed just 8-16 passes for 85 yards and topped it off with an interception in the RedZone before being pulled for backup QB Devlin Hodges.

“Just felt like our offense needed a spark,” head coach Mike Tomlin said, explaining the decision to turn to backup Devlin “Duck” Hodges. “Mason wasn’t doing enough; Duck came in and provided us with a spark, made a couple plays. We’ll see what next week holds, next week. But I like the contributions of Duck; I like his readiness; I appreciate the efforts of Mason and also appreciate the support of Mason after we made the change.”

A chaotic week led up to this performance from Rudolph, though he claimed it had no influence over his performance. “I think I do a good job of shutting that stuff out,” he said. “And this was just purely — not moving the ball up and down the field.”

“That stuff” Rudolph is referring to is the publicity he has been getting all week over the accusation made by Browns’ Myles Garrett that the QB used a racial slur during their previous altercation which ended with Garrett slamming a helmet on Rudolph’s head.

“I think any human would be [distraught] in one day, when your integrity’s attacked and something’s said about you that’s totally untrue,” Rudolph said Sunday when asked about feeling “distraught” about the allegation. “And I couldn’t believe it, and I couldn’t believe that he would go that route after the fact. But it is what it is. I think I’ve moved on, and … one day it was tough.”

As of now, the NFL has stated that it has found “no evidence” of Garrett’s allegation.

Tomlin refused to disclose the depth chart of the quarterbacks moving forward and who would be starting next week as the Steelers face off against the Cleveland Browns again, this time on their home turf.

The Browns‘ Myles Garrett is still suspended for the rest of the season after his appeal hearing on Wednesday. Garrett  has has accused Mason Rudolph of using a racial slur leading up to the fight.

Garrett’s comments in the closed session were made public after he stated that Rudolph used a racial slur during the game on Sunday. Garret stated he did not want that information to become public.

“I WAS ASSURED THAT THE HEARING WAS SPACE THAT AFFORDED THE OPPORTUNITY TO SPEAK OPENLY AND HONESTLY ABOUT THE INCIDENT THAT LED TO MY SUSPENSION,” w rote Garrett. “THIS WAS NOT MEANT FOR PUBLIC DISSEMINATION, NOR WAS IT A CONVENIENT ATTEMPT TO JUSTIFY MY ACTIONS OR RESTORE MY IMAGE IN THE EYES OF THOSE I DISAPPOINTED.” Garrett posted on Twitter.

Although he has been criticized for his comments and the fact that the NFL stated they found no evidence, Garrett stands by his comments and took responsibility for the helmet incident as well.

“I KNOW WHAT I HEARD. WHETHER MY OPPONENT’S COMMENT WAS BORN OUT OF FRUSTRATION OR IGNORANCE, I CANNOT SAY,” said Garrett. “BUT HIS ACTIONS DO NOT EXCUSE MY LACK OF RESTRAINT IN THE MOMENT, AND I TRULY REGRET THE IMPACT THIS HAS HAD ON THE LEAGUE, THE BROWNS AND OUR DEVOTED FANS.”

The league announced shortly after that they would penalize Rudolph $50,000 for his part in the altercation. They saw the evidence that Rudolph tried taking the helmet off of Garrett as well, after the hit.

Rudolph has not taken lightly to the allegations of a racial slur. He spoke with team captain Cam Heyward who backed him up. “He was pretty distraught and said, ‘I did not say that,'” the defensive lineman said. “I think we knew that using that as an excuse is not right.”

In practice, coach Mike Tomlin addressed the accusation with the team. “That’s the first thing he said after he told us. He said, ‘We know Mason didn’t say that,'” backup quarterback Devlin Hodges said. “And from there, he said, ‘Let’s get back to practice and focus on the game.'”

They might have won the game, but they lost a star. Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett could be facing a season-end suspension or more due to a fight with Pittsburg Steelers’ quarterback Mason Rudolph on Thursday night.

Rudolph was having a particularly hard time with the Browns defense all game, getting sacked four times and intercepted four times as well, none by Garrett (although credit Garrett for many of his rushed throws that led to the picks). Rudolph doubled his interception numbers in one night, coming in with 11 touchdowns to four interceptions in his previous seven games.

The incident happened in the last eight seconds of the game during a Rudolph throw. Garrett delivered a hit right after the throw, but apparently Rudolph didn’t like the hit; or maybe something said or extended after the hit. The two were on the floor together, Garrett on top of Rudolph with his helmet facing his as if interacting. The tackle lasted probably a second longer than it could have, and that’s when Rudolph started pushing at Garrett and appeared to be going at Garrett’s helmet.

At that point, Garrett grabbed Rudolph by the armpit corners of his jersey, then went for his helmet and took it off. He held on to the quarteback’s hemlet as Rudolph went to try and get it back. With one of the offensive linemen between them, Garrett swung upwards and around the offensive lineman’s arms at Rudolph hitting him on the side of the head. The hit could have been even worse if Rudolph would not have reacted in time to move the center of his head away from the blow.

After that, Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey who was on his way over, grabbed Garrett and started punching him and kicking him while on the floor with the offensive lineman on top of him.

Anyone that watches football knows that fights are regular. But someone trying to hit another player with a helmet on his uncovered head has not been seen either in awhile — or ever. The act has been widely condemned by all, including his own team, Browns QB Baker Mayfield making a statement as well.

“I didn’t see why it started, but it’s inexcusable. I don’t care, rivalry or not, we can’t do that,” Mayfield said. “That’s kind of the history of what’s been going on here lately, hurting yourself. That’s endangering the other team.

“That’s inexcusable. He knows that. Well, I hope he does now. It’s tough. We’ll see.”

The NFL stated that Garrett will be suspended indefinitely and, “at a minimum for the remainder of the regular season and postseason,” per NFL Senior VP of Football; International Communications Michael Signora.

A three game suspension was also handed down to Steelers center Pouncey for the punches and kicks on Garrett, and Browns defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi will serve a one game suspension for throwing Rudolph to the ground as well.

The actions and loss of Garrett are a major blow to the Browns, who made a statement this game, after coming in with a 3-6 record. They were chosen in many circles to make a playoff rush with a talented young quarterback, and two of the best receivers in the game in Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham, Jr. joining the team.

Now they will be without their All-Pro, Pro-Bowl defensive end who is a cornerstone for the solid defense that held the Steelers to seven points and the Buffalo Bills to 16 a week earlier.

Rudolph’s lawyer stated that he is not ruling out charges, but neither the NFL nor the authorities were pursuing the matter criminally as charges have not been filed.

Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett tweeted on Wednesday about a bad experience he recently had with a fan.

The Browns superstar wrote that a man ran up to his car, asked for a photo and then punched him in the face.

Garrett seemed to take it in stride, as he laughed the situation off knowing just how imposing he is. A man who looks molded in the image of Adonis, Garrett felt he was in no real danger from the fan “attack.” After the altercation, another Twitter user started recording the situation and described the attacker as a “scrawny white dude.” Here is a video of the “fan” escaping after his violent act:

There is no report about the attacker or why he would even try to hurt Garrett. He seemed to get off scot-free for the misdeed, as he left the scene quickly. Credit is due to Garrett’s self control, as the Browns star avoided all conflict and went on with his day instead of showing exactly what he’s capable of.

While punching is not allowed in the NFL, Garret will be able to respond to this incident when the 2-4 Browns take on the undefeated New England Patriots on Oct. 27.

The Cleveland Browns announced Friday that they have signed 2017 No. 1 overall draft pick Myles Garrett to a four-year deal worth $30.4 million guaranteed.

According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, the 21-year-old defensive end’s contract includes a $20.25 million signing bonus and a team option for a fifth season, just like all rookie deals for first-round selections.

Garrett, who was widely predicted to be the top pick in this year’s draft, recorded 31 sacks and 47 tackles for loss and also forced seven fumbles during his college career at Texas A&M.

The 6-foot-5, 270-pound pass rusher is expected to significantly improve Cleveland’s defense, which is led by new coordinator Gregg Williams. The Browns went 1-15 last season.

Green Bay Packers inside linebacker Joe Thomas, who was drafted by the Browns as a first-round pick in 2007, praised Garrett earlier this offseason.

“I’m just impressed with his demeanor and his willingness to learn and his humbleness,” Thomas said of the Arlington, Texas native. “but also you see that fire that’s burning inside him to be great and I think those are the hallmarks of guys that have a chance to be really excellent football players.”

The Browns have now secured six of their ten draft picks from 2017. Garrett’s fellow first-round draft-mates, safety Jabrill Peppers and tight end David Njoku, have not yet officially signed with Cleveland.

Garrett’s impressively giant contract exceeds the value of the four-year deal 2016 No. 1 overall pick Jared Goff signed with the Los Angeles Rams. The former California Golden Bears quarterback inked a pact worth $27.9 million guaranteed, including a $18.5 million signing bonus.

Shortly after he was drafted, Garrett told ESPN’s Randy Moss that he will do everything he can to beat Ben Roethlisberger. 

“I’m going to try to take him down,” Garrett said of the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback. “I can’t wait to face him,” the rookie added after saying he has been following Roethlisberger’s career for “a very long time.”

The division-rival Browns and Steelers will face off in Week 1 next season.

The first round of the 2017 NFL Draft begins Thursday at 8 pm EST in Philadelphia. Here is everything you need to know.

NFL Draft 2017 Preview and Predictions

The draft can be both watched and streamed on ESPN and NFL Network. Trey Wingo will replace Chris Berman as ESPN’s main host after Berman’s 37 year-tenure.

Rounds 2 and 3 are Friday at 7 pm, and Rounds 4, 5, 6 and 7 are Saturday at noon.

This is the first time since 1961 that the draft will be held in Philadelphia. The draft coincides with the Penn Relays, another giant local event.

Myles Garrett, a defensive end from Texas A&M, is projected by most mock drafts to be the No. 1 overall pick. Garrett is expected to be selected by the Cleveland Browns.

Some experts and former NFL players are dubious of Garrett’s prospects, however. “I see a lazy kid that makes four plays a game,” Hall of Fame defensive lineman Warren Sapp told ESPN. “This is the No. 1 guy? No, no, no. This ain’t even close.”

There is no agreement on the No. 2 selection, held by the San Francisco 49ers, although the top prospects, according to The New York Times, include Stanford defensive end Solomon Thomas, Ohio State cornerback Marshon Lattimore and Louisiana State running back Leonard Fournette.

Among the top quarterback candidates is Deshaun Watson from the national championship-winning Clemson Tigers. Wastson is projected to be a late first-round pick. Other passers who could be taken early (perhaps in the top 10) include Mitchell Trubisky, who has played incredibly well for North Carolina despite being the starter for just one season.

Temple linebacker Haasan Reddick is also expected to be a first-round selection. Reddick delivered great performances at this year’s Senior Bowl and NFL Scouting Combine. The 22-year-old boasts 149 tackles, 47 tackles for loss, 17.5 sacks in 42 games throughout his college career.

This year’s Heisman Trophy winner, Louisville’s junior quarterback Lamar Jackson, is not eligible for this year’s draft. The 20-year-old will be a contender next year.

However, Alabama defensive end Jonathan Allen, the defensive player of the year, is projected to be picked in the first round.

ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. has Garrett as his top overall pick and Allen as his No. 2 in the final 2017 Big Board for his mock draft. Also on Kiper’s Top 300 draft prospects list for the first round are Stanford running back Christian McAffrey at No. 6, LSU safety Jamal Adams at No. 3, and Alabama tight end O.J. Howard at No. 5. Closing out Kiper’s top 10 predictions for the first round are Thomas at No. 4, Fournette at No. 7, Alabama inside linebacker Reuben Foster at No. 8, Lattimore as ninth and Reddick as tenth.

According to Kevin Seifert of NFL Nation, Oklahoma running back Joe Mixon won’t be taken in the first round, and neither will former Ohio State cornerback Gareon Conley, as both players are entrenched in scandals. Mixon, who was No. 18 overall prospect up until a few days ago, was caught on video punching a woman and pled guilty to assault. Conley, meanwhile, is being investigated after he was accused of rape, though he has denied the allegations, calling them “completely false.”

The Browns, the New Orleans Saints and the Tennessee Titans hold the most first-round picks with two apiece, and Cleveland will especially benefit from this after a 1-15 season.

The defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots will be the last team to take the podium, selecting for the first time at No. 72 in the third round.

Cleveland Browns coach Hue Jackson and his team will have the opportunity to take a look at several NFL draft prospects all week ahead of this Saturday’s Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama.

Browns Considering Draft Prospects Beyond Deshaun Watson, Myles Garrett

Two of college football’s top prospects, Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson and Texas A&M defensive end Myles Garrett (both juniors), will not attend the showcase game for senior NFL prospects. Watson turned down the invitation and Garrett is ineligible. They seem to be the most likely candidates for that top pick.

Jackson and his staff are coaching the South team for Saturday’s game, which gives them a chance to analyze that batch of prospects for three days of practice plus meetings.

”To be able to put your hands on the players and coach them and push them through things is a lot different than sitting up there and seeing things kind of third-hand,” he said. ”Sometimes you can’t see. You can’t see everything. Down here you can really focus on things and see them pretty clear about what a guy’s trying to do and what he’s trying to accomplish.”

Browns owner Jimmy Haslam also traveled to Mobile this week.

Cleveland is attempting to bounce back from a 1-15 season. Their lone victory came on Week 15 at home against the San Diego (now-Los Angeles) Chargers. The Browns had the 31st-ranked scoring offense and the 30th-ranked scoring defense so they will surely take all the help they can get in terms of draft picks.

Cleveland picks first, 12th and 33rd in this year’s draft, which is scheduled to be held April 27-29 in Philadelphia.

Jackson obviously isn’t dropping any clues regarding who his team’s top choices are, but was asked whether it’s more important to select the best player or the most valuable.

”I think you have to go through it: What’s the best? Who is the best player?” Jackson said. ”We haven’t determined that. Is the best player a defensive end, is it a quarterback, is it a defensive back? I don’t know that.

”We all know a quarterback is very important to our football team, but is he the best player? We’ve got to find that out. We need to put one on our team. We’re going to find one, I promise you that.”

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney also commented while attending Tuesday’s practice.

”I’m just telling you if they pass on Deshaun Watson, they’re passing on Michael Jordan,” Swinney told reporters.

No surprise Swinney would have such high praise for his quarterback, especially after the Tigers just won the national championship over Alabama earlier this month.

John Fox and the Chicago Bears staff will be leading the North team on Saturday. Chicago will also hope to assess their own potential draft picks.

”I think it’s a huge leg up as far as getting to know guys and how they respond,” Fox said.
