Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson made history Wednesday when he passed Michael Vick as the all-time leader in rushing yards by a quarterback. He rushed for 87 yards on the ground in a 31-2 victory over the Texans, raising his total to a staggering 6,110 rushing yards across seven NFL seasons.

“It feels unreal, to be honest with you,” Jackson said after the game. “I just give God all the glory. I’m grateful, man, because that’s a record that’s been held for a long time with Michael Vick, one of my favorite players. That’s just dope.”

Facing a stout Texans defense on Christmas Day, Jackson still managed to deliver as Baltimore’s virtuoso, beating Houston in every way imaginable. As he has done all season, the two-time MVP was efficient through the air and highly elusive on the ground. He threw for 168 yards and two touchdowns on 10 completions, and could have done far more through the air if the Ravens didn’t put the game away early – 48 of his 87 rushing yards came on a single run to the end zone, his fourth rushing touchdown of the season.

Without losing any of his dazzling rushing ability, Jackson is well on his way to his first season with 4,000 passing yards in another MVP-caliber campaign. Bills quarterback Josh Allen may prevent Jackson from winning the award for a third time, but his value to Baltimore is priceless in many ways. The Ravens are preparing for their sixth playoff appearance in seven seasons. Adding running back Derrick Henry in 2024 has helped the team expand its potential, but Jackson is still an entirely unique talent serving as conductor for one of the greatest offenses in the history of modern football.

With Vick’s rushing record broken and yet another trip to the postseason on the horizon, Jackson is closing in on possibilities that have long been considered theoretical. In the past, the vast majority of running quarterbacks have either cut back on the ground late in their careers or suffered the consequences. Jackson is doing neither.

As mobile quarterbacks go, Allen and Russell Wilson are success stories, successful rushers who learned to lean more heavily on their arms and extended their careers. Cam Newton, Colin Kaepernick and Robert Griffin III are cautionary tales, talented players who relied too heavily on their mobility and suffered career-shortening injuries. Entering his seventh year, Jackson is doing his own thing; he’s developing as a passer without sacrificing anything on the ground. He’s burning at both ends and only growing brighter.

There’s only one point of comparison for what Jackson is trying to do: the man he just passed for the rushing record. Vick never sacrificed either. But Vick’s career is also a titanic “what if” in the history of the NFL, an undeniable talent losing two years of his prime to prison and suspension. By the time he began to truly develop his passing game with the Eagles, he was already nine years into a seven-season career. His legs didn’t last much longer, and he never managed to reach 4,000 passing yards.

Jackson has suffered his share of injuries too, but barring any unforeseen setback, he won’t be interrupted as Vick was. The window is wide open for him to win a Super Bowl, the NFL’s ultimate metric for quarterback success. He hasn’t climbed that mountain yet, but he’s only getting better.

Jackson has been derided for years, labeled a glorified running back in a dressed-up wildcat formation. But the doubters are melting away as he gradually becomes the most dangerous offensive player in NFL history. A championship victory would abolish skepticism altogether.

Frodo, the last remaining dog from Michael Vick‘s dogfighting case has passed away, BAD RAP, an animal welfare group. The post said that Frodo lived a happy and pampered life since being one of the 48 dogs rescued in 2007.

“I’ve had to somewhat rearrange my life in a way for Frodo,” said Kim Ramirez, who adopted Frodo. “And he’s worth it, believe me.”

“He was the last of 48 brave survivors from that game-changing case,” BAD RAP in a statement. “Sweet Frodo – how we loved him. He was one of the bravest survivors we’ve ever met.”

Vick was arrested in the spring of 2007 for financing a dogfighting operation and kennel that treated dogs inhumanely, chaining them up and leaving them injured and without food. At the time, Vick was the star quarterback of the Atlanta Falcons. Vick ended up serving 18 months in prison and was fined around $1 million in restitution. After getting out of prison, he made an NFL comeback and played in the league for seven more seasons before becoming a sports analyst for FOX Sports.

Vick recently talked about his regrets about his dogfighting days in a Washington Post feature.

“S–t, it hurt [my chances of] going in the Hall of Fame,” Vick said. “It’s going to impact everything. But it was all self-inflicted. I was young. I didn’t have no guidance. I don’t use this as no excuse. I could’ve said, ‘No.’ I could’ve made those right decisions, like, ‘This ain’t for me.’ That’s a blemish that I will never be able to erase.”

After leaving prison, Vick became an advocate for animal rights and has worked to stop dog fighting. He partnered with the Human Society and became an anti-dog fighting ambassador. Vick and his family own a rottweiler named Lotus.

Former NFL quarterback Michael Vick is required to pay $70,000 in back taxes to the city of Hampton, according to the Daily Press. Vick lived in Virginia for a couple years after serving 18 months in prison for his role in a dog fighting operation.

Vick lived in a mansion near Surry County where he was reportedly involved in strangling and drowning dogs, according to federal investigators. He left Virginia a couple of years ago, but he still owes $70,800 in taxes on luxury cars.

Hampton Treasurer Molly Ward told the Daily Press that the city’s office has tried to contact him directly and through other people that have handled Vick’s affairs, but no one has responded. Hampton has filed warrants for $51,900 in unpaid taxes and plans to file another soon, Ward said.

After his 2008 bankruptcy case, Vick owned through a company two 2007 Land Rovers, a Cadillac Escalade, a Mercedes, an Infiniti truck, two Ford pickup trucks, one Cadillac DTS, and a Cheverolet Impala, according to court records.

Last year Vick spoke to Liberty University about his crimes involving dogfighting, claiming as a young kid he was taught that caring for animals “was the right thing to do.” But when he was nine local teenagers brought him to dogfights in Newport News, Virginia, where he said, “My perception changed because what I saw was not the same as what I heard. “I fell into the trap of thinking it was cool.”

Vick returned to the league after prison, playing five years with the Eagles then signing with the Jets and Steelers respectively for his last two seasons.

Vick has been selected as an honorary co-captain for the NFL Pro Bowl this year, but the appointment has received backlash after 700,000 people signed a petition against the decision.

Former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick has been the focus of a petition signed by more than 280,000 people to have him removed from being one of the four Legends captains at the 2020 Pro Bowl. The petition, started by Joanna Lind on Change.org, seeks to remove Vick from the role where he would “be honored” and in a position to act as a mentor for the players.

Lind, who was “absolutely disgusted” said, “When is the NFL going to take any responsibility for the behavior of its current and former players? To honor a man who had zero regard for animals is unacceptable and I would like your help to make sure he is NOT honored at the 2020 NFL Pro Bowl.”

Vick was arrested and pleaded guilty to a federal felony charge related to running a dogfighting ring and served 23 months in federal prison after his 15-acre property was raided in April 2007. The raid uncovered evidence of illegal dogfighting activities, as well as dozens of neglected pit bulls. Three other men were charged alongside Vick and eventually testified that the star quarterback had participated in the execution of a number of dogs and bankrolled gambling funds for the venture, named Bad Newz Kennels. Once the highest paid player in the NFL, Vick lost all endorsement deals and was suspended from his record 10-year, $130 million contract indefinitely without pay.

After filing for bankruptcy, his pieced together his shattered reputation and made a comeback with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2010, throwing for a combined 10,959 yards with the Eagles, New York Jets and Pittsburgh Steelers. He retired in 2017 and signed with FOX Sports as an analyst.

Time will tell if this petition proves worthy of knocking Vick out of the Pro Bowl spot as he is set to serve next to Pro Football Hall of Famers Terrell Davis, Darrell Green and Bruce Smith.

No NFL team has yet overtly expressed interest in signing free agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick following the former San Francisco 49ers star’s national anthem protest, but Michael Vick has some advice for Kaepernick to help improve his chances at finding a new job: getting a haircut.

Colin Kaepernick & Michael Vick news

“The first thing we got to get Colin to do is cut his hair,” the former NFL quarterback said on Fox Sports 1’s Speak For Yourself on Monday.. “I don’t think he should represent himself in that way in terms of the hairstyle. Just go clean cut. Why not? You’re already dealing with a lot of controversy surrounding this issue. What he needs to do is just try to be presentable.”

Kaepernick currently sports a giant Afro.

Vick is a former Atlanta Falcons, Philadelphia Eagles and New York Jets quarterback who rebuilt his own career after serving two years in prison for organizing dog fights and torturing dogs. On Tuesday, the 37-year-old appeared to change his tone regarding Kaepernick, however.

“Colin Kaepernick’s hair has nothing to do with him not being on an N.F.L. roster right now,” Vick said on Tuesday. “I’m looking forward to seeing him on the field again. Trust and believe what I said was not in malice.”

Vick retired from the NFL as a Falcon in February after a 13 year-career in the league.

Kaepernick, 29, opted out of his contract with the 49ers on March 3 after six seasons with the team. The backup quarterback — who is mixed-race (black and white) — gained notoriety in the sports world after refusing to stand for the national anthem before a preseason game in August 2016 in order to make a statement about racial inequality and the unjust oppression of minorities across the United States. Kaepernicks’s protest, which turned from sitting to kneeling, was quickly replicated by dozens of other NFL players and athletes from other major sports leagues who also felt the need to voice their discontent with the repeated instances of unarmed black Americans physically and unjustly hurt by law enforcement.

Several conservative sports fans, celebrities, pundits and NFL members heavily criticized Kaepernick’s protest, citing how disrespectful the move was towards American troops among other reasons. Many other celebrities, fans and army veterans, nevertheless, supported the quarterback.

Kapernick has also made headlines in recent months due to his other forms of social activism. He has bought suits for recently-released inmates looking for jobs, and was also one of dozens of celebrities who created a GoFundMe page to help raise funds to ship tons of food and water supplies to impoverished nations like Somalia and Sudan. Kaepernick has also donated more than $1 million to organizations all around the U.S.

The former 49ers quarterback’s barber recently explained to USA TODAY Sports why Kaepernick has chosen to keep his hair, saying it is part of his identity as a black American:

“I wish I could cut it. I wish I could just transform him back to what Kap was because now he’s a different person,” the barber explained. … “If I cut it and put him back in place to what he was before, oh yeah, that’s what I want to do, I want to bring him back.’’

But Stevens, who like Kaepernick is African American, said the current hair style has helped Kaepernick’s transformation from soft-spoken quarterback to social activist who has refused to stand during the national anthem.

“A lot of people don’t think he’s black because his foster parents are white. So when he grows his Afro out … I feel like that’s definitely making a statement.’’

On Tuesday, Kaepernick tweeted the definition of Stockholm Syndrome, a condition displayed by victims of abuse or kidnapping who eventually identify with and grow to even like and respect their captor or abuser. Although the quarterback offered no explanation for his post, although some believe it may have been a veiled retort at Vick.

The definition ends with two alternative descriptions for Stockholm Syndrome: “traumatic bonding” and “victim brainwashing.”

Ex-NFL QB Marcus Vick, Brother Of Michael Vick, Charged With Drug Possession

Several news outlets report that 32-year-old Marcus Vick was arrested Saturday in Newport News and charged with one count of possession of a schedule I or II drug following a search of his apartment.

Police arrived at the scene after receiving a drug complaint. Authorities state officers smelled marijuana coming from the apartment as they approached.

Police stated Vick opened the door and allowed officers to enter. Vick and four others in the apartment were detained after police found two bags of what Vick confirmed were illegal drugs. The officer who filed the affidavit said he believed one bag contained molly, also called MDMA, and the other crack cocaine.

Court documents stated Vick was “extremely cooperative” with police when they searched his apartment.

Earlier this year, Macus Vick was charged with assaulting a police officer who was arresting him on a contempt charge in Virginia.

It remains unclear whether or not Vick has an attorney.

Vick was born in Newport News and attended Warwick High School before playing for Virginia Tech. He was signed by the Miami Dolphins in 2006, but only played one game for the team. His older brother Michael is a free agent National Football League quarterback who also played at Virginia Tech, and then went on to play for the Atlanta Falcons, Philadelphia Eagles, New York Jets and Pittsburgh Steelers.

Most people have an opinion about Michael Vick. A strong opinion.

Looking to continue its multimedia expansion, Bleacher Report produced the documentary VICK, capitalizing on one of the most polarizing figures in sports history, following his rise to fame and fall from glory.

Bleacher pulls back the curtain on Vick’s life, showing what is was like to grow up in the downtrodden projects of Newport News, Virginia, his close relationship with former NFL quarterback Donovan McNabb and his quest to be “part of the solution.”

REVIEW: ‘VICK’ Documentary Hits Receivers In Stride

Vick addresses his role in dogfighting, which many feel unwilling to forgive him for, but that tune may change after one screening of VICK.

Viewers learn that Vick had talent unmatched, maybe by anyone whose ever played the quarterback position. Former coaches, family, friends, opponents, all bow to his athletic ability.

‘VICK’ CHAPTER 2: PHENOM

But as we know now, this story has a twist.

Vick explains his incarceration in great detail, making no excuses for his actions and accepting full responsibility.

Just as fans follow his ascent, viewers are given intricate detail of how this once-promising superstar, plummeted like a stone from a cliff.

From Madden cover, to orange jumpsuit before he could blink.

Bleacher shows it all, using interviews and archived footage to string together all the components of this emotional rollercoaster ride, which is as gratifying as it is stimulating.

VICK was released in five installments, but the full documentary will keep viewers’ eyes fixed on their computer screen.

Perhaps the most provocative segment features McNabb explaining how he pitched former Philadeplhia Eagles head coach Andy Reid the idea of bringing Vick into the fold after his release from prison.

What many viewers didn’t know, myself included and I consider myself somewhat of a Vick historian, is that McNabb had recruited Vick to join his team once before.

But this wasn’t at the NFL level, McNabb, a superstar in college at Syracuse, was courting Vick to takeover the reins of the Orangemen offense, before Vick decided to cut his own cloth in Blacksburg at Virginia Tech.

“Five, I wanna take the game back over,” Vick told McNabb when discussing a return to the NFL.

Vick’s personality takes over your living room.

In one 50-minute span, you feel compassion for him, stand in awe of him, want to punch him and finally feel empathy for him.

‘VICK’ CHAPTER 5:RETURN

“I talked to Andy and Andy had that same reaction,” McNabb recalled when explaining how Vick began his comeback to the NFL.

“Andy said, ‘Are you serious?’ I said ‘Yeah, he’s like my little brother,” McNabb said. “I think it would be good for him and I think it would be good for our team.”

‘VICK’ is good for everyone.

Kids can learn the lessons of his missteps and those of his reemergence.

Viewers will learn many things about Michael Vick from this film: he is greedy, shifty, smart, caring, compassionate, remorseful and willing to admit all these aspects of his personality.

We learn Vick is a man, nothing else.

“It’s what you do when people are not watching, it’s not what you do when they’re watching,” Vick says at the close of the film. “It’s easy to put on a front.BUt when the cameras start rolling, you’re gonna see a different man.”
