The Jacksonville Jaguars have acquired two new players in wide receiver Marvin Jones Jr. and defensive tackle Malcom Brown.

The Jaguars agreed to a two-year, $14.5 million deal, including $9.2 million guaranteed to earn the services of Jones. Jones spent the past five seasons with the Detroit Lions.

The wide receiver joined the Lions as a free agent in 2016. During his tenure there, Jones recorded a total of 289 catches for 4,296 yards and 36 touchdowns. In 2017, he recorded his lone NFL season with above 1,00 yards, finishing with 1,101 yards and an NFL-leading 18 yards per reception.

Jacksonville engaged in a trade with the New Orleans Saints to acquire Brown. The Jaguars received the defensive tackle in exchange for an unspecified draft pick. The 27-year-old defensive stalwart agreed to a two-year, $27 million deal with $8 million guaranteed.

The defensive tackle is part of the ongoing efforts by the Jaguars to rebuild their defense. Last season, Jacksonville ranked 30th in the league in run defense after allowing 153.3 yards per game. This latest move should beef up the interior of the defense’s line.

The 29-year old receiver is in his 8th year in the NFL and shares five children with his wife Jazmyn.

In October, Jones partnered with Pampers to help install 5,000 changing tables in public restrooms across the United States and Canada, a mission set to be done by 2021.

A family man, Jones also coaches his two boys Marvin III and Mareon, in flag football in San Diego during the offseason.

The Detroit Lions released a statement saying, “The Detroit Lions fully support Marvin and Jazmyn during this extremely difficult time. Marvin and Jazmyn embody the true meaning of family, and the example they set has made them an inspiration to so many in our community. We thank everyone for the outpouring of support.”

Jones is in his fourth season with the Lions and has been on injured reserve due to an ankle injury. Before his injury, he had 62 catches, 779 yards and nine touchdowns.

The Lions will face the Packers in Detroit to wrap up the regular season.
