Errol Spence Jr. has been forced to withdraw from his Aug. 21 fight with Manny Pacquiao due to a retinal tear in his left eye. Organizers announced the withdrawal on Tuesday.

“Spence discovered that he had a torn retina during a pre-fight medical examination by the NV State Athletic Commission in Las Vegas on Monday,” organizers said on Twitter. “He flew back home to Dallas, TX on Tuesday and will have surgery to repair the tear on Wednesday.”

“I was excited about the fight and the event,” Spence said in a news release. “Unfortunately, the doctors found a tear in my left eye and said I needed to get surgery on it ASAP and that there was no way I could fight with my eye in that condition.”

The welterweight champion returned him to Dallas and will have surgery to repair the tear on Wednesday. He is expected to make a full recovery and return to the ring. He is the World Boxing Council and International Boxing Federation welterweight world champion with a 27-0 record.

Pacquiao showed concern for his fellow boxer and prayed for Spence to make a full recovery.

“I ask everyone to join me in praying for a full and complete recovery for Errol Spence Jr,” Pacquiao said. “Thank God his physical examination discovered his eye condition before he suffered any further damage.”

While Spence will no longer be able to compete at the event, Yordenis Ugas has agreed to take his place and fight Pacquiao. Ugas won a bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and recently won the vacant WBA Welterweight title.

“I have a tremendous amount of respect for Pacquiao, but I am coming to win this fight,” said Ugas. “I’ve been in camp working hard with my coach Ismael Salas, and I know together we will come up with a masterful game plan to combat anything Manny will bring to the ring.”

Boxing sensation and current WBC interim lightweight champion, Ryan Garcia, recently posted a preview of a fight against Manny Pacquiao on Instagram.

There were rumors going around about preliminary talks being held about a boxing match featuring the two fighters. While these rumors were not confirmed, the recent post by uiGarcia seemed to fuel the hype of a possible fight.

The Instagram post features a promotional poster, while the caption states, “A dream turned reality,” before continuing to say, “It’s an honor to share the ring with @mannypacquiao.” The caption finishes off with the following, “I will always respect what you did in and out the ring, here’s to the best man winning.”

Many thought that Pacquio would take on Conor McGregor, however, after his embarrassing loss last week, it appears Garcia is the better fit. Pacquiao, 42, has not fought since he defeated Keith Thurman in July 2019. Garcia is coming off a recent January 2 victory over Luke Campbell.

Keith Urman is looking to possibly close the book on his opponent’s illustrious and legendary story, (29-0, 22 KOs) and awaits a chance to snatch the WBA World Welterweight Title during his highly anticipated meeting with Manny Pacquiao (61-7-2, 39 KOs) this Friday night.

The two fighters are ready to put on a show that lives up to its hype for boxing fans across the globe.

Despite his world–wide fame and constant need to expand his trophy case, Pacquiao turned 40 this year. Throughout his career, Pacquiao’s exceptional hand speed and reflexes allowed him ascend as an all–time great boxer. However, with his age reaching higher numbers, Pacquiao’s skills appear destined to deteriorate sooner rather than later. Thurman, a fighter ten years younger than Pacquiao, now appears as a possible candidate to usher in Pacquiao’s retirement.

SPORTS FIGURES WHO DIED IN 2019 – IN MEMORIAM SLIDESHOW

Despite the noise his growing age continues to generate, Pacquiao remains a top pound–for–pound boxer. The champ portrayed his ability to still attack with quick combinations and enough speed to seemingly overlap his opponent, winning by unanimous decision during his last fight sixth months ago. The victory quickly dismissed ongoing beliefs regarding Pacquiao’s physical regression, similar to the rumors surrounding him right now. Pacquiao grabs an advantage when taking into account each fighter’s vigor, as Thurman spent two years recovering from a right elbow surgery that omitted him from any fights from 2017 until this year.

“My speed and power will speak for itself. He may underestimate me now, but he’ll talk differently once he’s in the ring with me,” said Pacquiao when commenting on his opponent.

With 22 knockouts in 29 fights, Thurman’s power punches obviously appear as his primary tool going into the fight. This skill likely comes due to Thurman’s extensive reach and height. Pacquiao last measured out at 5-foot-5 and a 67-inch reach, while Thurman stretched out to 5-foot-7 with a 69-inch reach, poising to tower over his opponent once the two step into the ring. Look for Thurman to go for a knockout rather than attain a victory by decision or by attempting to force a toe–to–toe style fight, which limits Pacquiao’s quick attacks and instead favors his ability to throw crushing blows and overpower his opponent.

Thurman also offered some trash talk ahead the fight as he simply stated, “I’m a real fighter, and Manny Pacquiao is going to get a piece of it.”

The bell will ignite this war with the undercard fights kicking things offs at 9 p.m. EST on July 20. The fight remains available for purchase on Fox Sports Pay Per View.

The kickoff press conference to promote the fight is scheduled for April 18 in Manila, the capital of the 5-foot5, 146-pound Pacquiao’s home country of the Philippines. Another presser is set to take place April 20 in Kuala Lumpur.

Pacquiao has also reportedly acquired a new trainer recently. The 39-year-old former welterweight and lightweight champion — who also serves as a Senator of the Philippines — has replaced his longtime trainer, International Boxing Hall of Famer Freddie Roach, with lifelong friend and assistant trainer Buboy Fernandez.

Roach and Pacquiao had been working together since the first time the boxer competed in the United States in 2001. Roach had trained Pacquiao for his past 34 fights.

Pacquiao allegedly decided to switch trainers because he became upset with statements Roach had made to reporters after his last fight.

On July 2, 2017, Pacquiao lost his version of the welterweight world belt by highly controversial decision to Jeff Horn in Brisbane, Australia. Pacquiao asked the World Boxing Organization to review the result of the fight.

The Pacquiao-Horn match averaged more than 3 million viewers, and the main event’s ratings reached up to 4.4 million.

Argentine Matthysse (39-4, 36 KOs), 35, is a 5-foot-6 fighter whose aggressive style helped him win a vacant secondary welterweight title on January 27 with an eighth-round knockout of Tewa Kiram, and up-and-coming fighter from Thailand.

Pacquiao (59-7-2, 38 KOs) is the first boxer in history to win major world titles in four of the original eight weight classes: lightweight, flyweight, featherweight and welterweight. He has been serving as a Senator in the Philippines since June 2016, and previously served as a member of the country’s House of Representatives.

“We had to schedule this fight so the senate wasn’t in session and wouldn’t interfere with Manny’s training,” Pacquiao’s adviser Michael Koncz stated.

Jeff Horn is still the WBO welterweight world title champion, unfortunately for Manny Pacquiao.

Jeff Horn WBO Manny Pacquiao

Pacquiao requested a review from the WBO last week in conjunction with the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) — a department of his native Philippines’ government — after claiming the officiating during the July 2 bout in Brisbane, Australia was unfair.

The WBO announced in a statement late Monday that of the five independent judges who reviewed the fight, three awarded the victory to Horn, one named Pacquiao the winner and one scored it a draw.

Horn — a 29-year-old Australian former schoolteacher — initially defeated 11-time world champion Pacquiao via unanimous decision.

Several fans and renown boxing announcers said they believed Pacquiao should have been awarded the victory, although the WBO explained in a statement on their website that it does not hold the authority to rescind the judges’ decision unless a legal violation has occurred.

“The WBO does not have power to reverse the judges’ decision based on discretion as it can only be revoked when fraud or a violation of Law has occurred, which is not relevant in this case,” the organization said on their website. “Based on this, five anonymous, competent judges from different countries were asked to watch the bout without sound. Then, the independent results were tabulated to ascertain clearly the rounds each fighter won using an average scale based on 60, 80 and 100 per cent.”

“To determine the winner of each round, 3 out of the 5 officials have to be in agreement.”

WBO president Francisco Valcarcel asked the judges to assign their own scores to rounds. The analysis of the tabulated average scores from all five judges — who came from different countries — revealed that Pacquiao won three rounds: the third, eighth and ninth rounds of the fight by 100 percent, the fifth round by 80 percent and the 11th by 60 percent. Meanwhile, Horn took seven rounds: the first, sixth and 12th rounds by 100 percent, the second, fourth and seventh by 80 percent and the 10th by 60 percent.

The bout was held before a sold-out crowd of 51,000 in Brisbane and was scored 117-111 by Waleksa Roldan and 115-113 each by Chris Flores and Ramon Cerdan. Of the three, Roldan’s score was criticized the most.

“It gives me evidence behind me that I can just use now. Instead of saying ‘I think I won the fight,’ now a heap of other people — professionally — think I won the fight,” Horn told reporters in Brisbane on Tuesday as he prepared to board a flight for Los Angeles. “It’s definitely nice to have it finally put on paper.

“Now just to have it clear in front of us is good.”

The Australian remains undefeated in 18 professional fights.

Horn posted a link to the WBO statement about him maintaining his title on his Facebook page Monday night, and tagged five celebrities who were rooting for Pacquiao and were shocked that the Filipino lost the fight: Samuel L. Jackson, Kobe Bryant, Stephen A. Smith, Teddy Atlas and Aaron Rodgers.

The bout between Horn and Pacquiao has a rematch clause in the contract, which means the two fighters could face off again sometime in the near future.

Manny Pacquiao has demanded the World Boxing Organization review his welterweight world title defeat to Australian Jeff Horn on Sunday, claiming the loss came due to unfair officiating.

Pacquiao lost his welterweight world title to Jeff Horn via 12-round unanimous decision

The 38-year-old Filipino supported a formal call for the Philippines’ Games and Amusement Board for the WBO to review the result of Sunday’s bout in Brisbane, Australia.

“I love boxing and I don’t wanna see it dying because of unfair decision and officiating,” said Pacquiao, an 11-time world champion. “I had already accepted the decision but as a leader and, at the same time, fighter I have the moral obligation to uphold sportsmanship, truth and fairness in the eyes of the public.”

Horn, 29, defeated Pacquiao in a unanimous 12-round decision after judges scored him 117-111, 115-113 and 115-113 in his favor.

Many prominent figures from the boxing world — including former world heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis — questioned the outcome of the fight on social media:

Sunday’s bout was held outdoors before more than 51,000 fans at Suncorp Stadium.

Pacquiao is approaching the end of a 22-year pro boxing career that has seen him capture world titles in an unprecedented eight weight divisions. He had initially called for a rematch, but later said he would also “think hard” about retiring.

“WBO should take appropriate action on the letter sent by the Games and Amusement Board so as not to erode the people’s interest in boxing,” Pacquiao said in a statement as a response to a letter the Phillipines’ sports regulatory body wrote to the WBO to request the review of his fight.

The WBO responded via Twitter on Tuesday: “The discretion of a referee or judge cannot be reversed, except in a case of fraud or violation of laws which is not the case in Pac vs Horn,” the organization said. “The contract for Pac vs Horn provides a rematch clause, which the WBO is in accordance (with) if the promoters decide to move forward.”

Pacquiao’s trainers criticized referees of the fight by alleging they allowed Horn to get away with a series of illegal tactics, including head clashes and neck holds. The Filipino’s team emphasized that, due to the officials’ lack of penalization for these supposedly forbidden moves, Pacquiao had to receive stitches to two cuts in his hairline.

Of the three judges, American Waleska Roldan — who scored the match 117-111 — drew most of the criticism.

After posting photos of all three judges’ score cards on Twitter, the WBO also explained in another statement: “The discretion of a referee or judge cannot be reversed, except in a case of fraud or violation of laws which is not the case in Pac vs Horn.”

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum said it was a “close fight. It could have gone either way.”

Pacquiao had a rematch clause in his contract, which means he could negotiate to face Horn again later this year regardless of the WBO’s final decision. The Filipino entered the fight with a record of 59-6-2. However, the last of his 38 knockouts came in 2009.

Horn, meanwhile, won his 17 previous professional fights before Pacquiao. Sunday’s victory marked his first career world championship title.

Pacquiao ultimately said he respected the final result of the bout, although he stood by his criticism of the referee and attacked Horn as well.

“He’s not really good but he’s really strong,” Pacquiao said of Horn on Monday, while the Filipino’s camp criticised the referee for supposedly allowing the undefeated Australian to get away with a host of illegal tactics.

“The problem here is that the referee, I don’t know if he did it deliberately or he just did not have experience, he just allowed it and did not even give any warning for how many times,” Pacquiao said.

“It’s as if the referee wanted to help my opponent.”

Philippine officials organized a free public viewing of the fight in Southern Marawi City. The event gave thousands of displaced residents, troops and police an opportunity to take a break from the siege of Islamic militants, who have transformed parts of the city into a disastrous war zone.

Floyd Mayweather Shares Instagram Photo Of $100M Check From 2015 Manny Pacquiao Fight

On Tuesday, the legendary boxer shared a photo on Instagram of a $100 million check from his record-setting May 2015 fight against Manny Pacquiao.

Mayweather’s total earnings from that fight ended up being around $250 million.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BNYtZR0g0-f/

After that fight with Pacquiao, Mayweather defeated Andre Berto four months later and retired at 49-0.

Rumors have been circulating in the last few weeks involving Mayweather returning to the ring to fight. Nothing has officially been set, but among those who have challenged him to a bout is UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor, who recently acquired a boxing license from the state of California, in an attempt to switch over to the sport from MMA.

Nevertheless, UFC president Dana White recently stated that he doubts a Mayweather-McGregor matchup is likely.

White cited first and foremost, the dangerous nature of pitting an undefeated veteran up against a boxing debutant.

“It’s fun to talk about this fight and what might happen, but what commission would let that fight happen?” White said via Yahoo Sports.

“Really, think about that. I have no idea what Conor is doing. Conor’s Conor. He does his thing. But he’s under contract to me.”

“Gotta love these backseat drivers so worried about another man’s legacy instead of trying to write their own,” Mayweather posted in response to the rumors about his return to the ring. “Ultimately, I will always have the last laugh. This is just one of my many checks, a cool $100,000,000.00 that I still have every dime of.”

The May 2015 Pacquiao-Mayweather fight generated a record 4.6 million pay-per-view buys and brought in over $600 million in revenue.

“Y’all still have to work however, I’m happily retired,” Mayweather wrote in the caption of the check photo. “At the end of the day, it’s them Benjamin Franklins that matter to me, so the jokes on you. I’ve made smart investments, sorry for those who thought that I couldn’t read, write, or count. Y’all call them watches, I call them time pieces. Y’all call them boats, I call them yachts. Y’all call them houses, I call them mansions. Y’all charter jets and we own jets.”

Floyd Mayweather has officially been stripped of his WBO welterweight belt, as he has failed to comply with Friday’s deadline to pay $200,000 and vacate his other two junior middleweight belts. Now, he received the WBO title by defeating Manny Pacquiao on May 2, but it is against the rules to hold belts in different weight classes, as boxers usually later decide which class to stay in.

Therefore, the WBC and WBA were technically breaking their own rules by allowing Mayweather to hold onto their belts. Now, the WBO was not as willing as they set last week’s deadline to force Mayweather’s decision. Instead, he seemed to ignore the date, leaving the organization no choice but strip him of the title on Monday.

WBO Strips Title From Mayweather

“The WBO world championship committee is allowed no other alternative but to cease to recognize Mr. Floyd Mayweather Jr. as the WBO welterweight champion of the world and vacate his title for failing to comply with out WBO regulations of world championship contests,” the WBO stated in a press release.

Originally, Mayweather talked about vacating all of his titles, to give other fighters a chance. But weeks after the fight, no decision was made. Therefore, the WBO made June 27’s bout between Timothy Bradley Jr. and Jessie Vargas for the welterweight belt. A decision that Mayweather objected to, resulting in the fight being for the interim belt. Mayweather was then given last Friday’s deadline to regain the title, yet did nothing.

“[The decision] is a complete disgrace,” Leonard Ellerbe, Mayweather Promotions CEO, told ESPN. “Floyd will decide what, or if any, actions he will take… he will not be dictated by any organization or person as it relates to his decision making.” He now has 14 days to appeal WBO’s decision.

Floyd Mayweather next plans to fight on September 12, which will be the final bout in his massive six-fight deal with Showtime and CBS. After, he allegedly plans to retire.

In the least surprising news of the 21st century, Floyd Mayweather topped Forbes’  highest-paid athletes list.

Forbes’ Highest Paid-Athletes 2015 List

Forbes released their annual highest-paid athletes list and the boxers from the bout of the century topped the list. Of course, Floyd Mayweather took the bigger cut from the fight and therefore remained at the top of this annual list. Out of roughly $400 million, Floyd got 60 percent, which amounted to about $285 million, according to Forbes. And add $15 million in endorsements and he was estimated to make $300 million over the last year.

On the other side of the ring, Manny Pacquiao took in roughly $160 million over the last year, making $23 million off November’s Chris Algieri fight, $125 million from the Mayweather payday and another $12 million from endorsements. Both fighters torched the previous athlete revenue record, which was Tiger Woods’ $115 million in 2008.

As for the rest of the top five, international stars filled out the list: Real Madrid’s Cristian Ronaldo ($79.6 million), Barcelona’s Lionel Messi ($73.8 million) and Roger Federer ($67 million). Now, spots five to ten were surprisingly filled with NBA and golf athletes. With the former, LeBron James came in at sixth with $64.8 million, Kevin Durant at seventh with $54.1 million and Kobe Bryant at tenth with $49.5 million. More surprisingly were the eighth and ninth athletes, Phil Mickelson ($50.8 million) and Tiger Woods ($50 million), who both earned a significant portion of their revenue from endorsements.

With this said, there were several sports and stars missing from this top ten list. The first NFL player to appear on the highest-paid athletes countdown was Ben Roethlisberger at eleventh for earning $48.9 million. Other key names from the NFL included Ndamukong Suh at 16th, J.J. Watt at 29th, Peyton Manning at 32nd and even Carson Palmer at 27th.

The closest baseball player to the top of the list was Jon Lester at 19th with $34.1 million. Next, Robinson Cano was at 30th with $27.6 million and Clayton Kershaw rounded out the top-34 with $26.9 million.

For the rest of the list, head over to Forbes’ article.

While the total is far from official, the initial U.S. pay-per-view numbers have been released for the monumental Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao fight. And not only did it shatter the previous record — which was expected — it easily exceeded expectations.

So it garnered around 4.4 million pay-per-view buys, which tarnishes the previous record set by Mayweather and Oscar De La Hoya (2.48 million) Now, this roughly translates to $400 million, which does not even include the international audience.

Predictions are expecting at least another $100 million from those totals, which means the estimated worldwide gross is over $500 million. And if one were to factor in the 60-40 split, then that means Floyd could potentially walk home with more than $300 million.

Now, this does not take in account Mayweather paying people, including the IRS, but it is still a ridiculous amount. To put this in perspective, Floyd’s net worth is roughly $400 million.

But again, this is just a rough estimate. The ridiculous number should be released in a few weeks.

Hours after news surfaced that Manny Pacquiao will undergo shoulder surgery, two Las Vegas based fans have filed suit against the former champion for not disclosing his injury prior to the fight.

The suit, where the defendants are seeking $5 million dollars, is against Pacquiao, Michael Koncz, and Top Rank’s chairman, Bob Arum, and president, Todd duBoef, according to the ESPN report. It alleges the defendants knowingly knew of Pacquiao’s shoulder injury and chose not to inform NSAC and the fans in fear that it would be pushed, lose ticket sales and/or affect the betting.

This, of course, is on the heels of NSAC chariman Frank Aguilar’s inquiry on why Pacquiao checked the injury box “no” on his pre-fight forms, which is also why his anti-inflammatory shot request was denied. Either way, this investigation could result in the famed fighter being suspended or fined.

“We will gather all the facts and follow the circumstances,” Aguilar said. “At some point we will have some discussion. As a licensee of the commission you want to make sure fighters are giving you up-to-date information.”

As for the actual lawsuit, two parties outline their claims in the filings. “Defendants prior to and at the time the plaintiffs and the class decided to purchase tickets; purchase pay per view showings or wagered on the event the defendants knew and had full knowledge and information that defendant Pacquiao had been seriously injured and was suffering from a torn rotator cuff,” the lawsuit stated. “Defendants further know that such injury would severely affect his performance.”

Since then, Top Rank’s attorney has responded to the matter. “The allegations in this lawsuit are demonstrably false,” said Daniel Petrocelli. “There are documents that explicitly show the medications that Manny was using to treat his shoulder and it was fully disclosed with USADA, which we contracted for this fight.”

Again as reported yesterday, Pacquiao will undergo rotator cuff surgery and will not be in the ring for at least “nine months to a year,” according to Dr. Neal ElAttrache. However, if everything goes right with his rehab, he could be back to training within six months.

About two weeks prior to Floyd Mayweather’s monumental fight with Manny Pacquiao, he sat down with Katie Couric for a one-on-one interview about the boxer’s past and present. And during this session, he opened up about several things, including his 2010 arrest for domestic violence, which led to him being incarcerated for two months.

“Did I kick, stomp and beat someone? No, that didn’t happen,” Floyd told Couric. “Did I restrain a woman that was on drugs? Yes, I did. So if they say that’s domestic violence, then you know what? I’m guilty. I’m guilty of restraining someone.”

Well apparently, Josie Harris, the victim and mother of Mayweather’s three kids, did not take kindly to these accusations and is going to try to hit Floyd directly where it hurts: his wallet.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6Mqanedt4I

Harris stated that the champion boxer flew into a rage after the two had broken up, breaking into her house and attacking her. She was embarrassed globally by being labeled a drug addict, according to TMZ Sports.

“[Floyd’s lies] were knowingly fabricated in order to hype Mayweather’s upcoming fight with Pacquiao, to avoid bad press by deflecting responsibility for beating the mother of his children,” Harris’ lawyer, Dan Friedlander, told the gossip news website.

As for the exact amount, Harris is suing her ex for $20 million. Initial predictions for the Pacquiao and Mayweather fight had the champion boxer possibly making up to $180 million in the 60-40 split. Even if he makes three-quarters of that, this $20 million suit, between possible payout and lawyer fees, would not really put that big of a dent into his winnings.

Following his unanimous decision loss to Floyd MayweatherManny Pacquiao disclosed that he fought Saturday’s monumental bout with a tear in his shoulder. “It’s part of the game,” Pacquiao said at the post-fight news conference. “I don’t want to make alibis or complain or anything, [but] it’s hard to fight one-handed.”

The former champion allegedly suffered the tear about two and half weeks earlier during his training camp, according to Top Rank fight promoter Bob Arum. And he was supposed to receive an anti-inflammatory shot in the shoulder on Saturday, but was denied it by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

The reason why he was denied was because Pacquaio did not properly disclose the injury, according to Francisco Aguilar, aka the chairman of NSAC. “The medications he was taking were disclosed on his medical questionnaire, but not the actual injury,” Aguilar said to the media. “This isn’t our first fight. This is our business. There is a process, and when you try to screw with the process, it’s not going to work for you.”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7Z0dkOe64w

Yesterday, it was confirmed by ESPN that Pacquiao would indeed need surgery. “We have an MRI scan that confirms he has a rotator cuff tear. He has a significant tear,” said Dr. Neal ElAttrache, a famous L.A. doctor who has worked with the Los Angeles Lakers and Dodgers.

On top of this, Pacquiao would likely be out anywhere from “nine months to a year,” according to what the doctor told Pacquiao. But if everything goes as plan, he could be back to training within six months.

But what does this mean for a possible rematch? As most know, Mayweather wrote into the contract that if he wins, there will be no rematch. And while Floyd was clearly the better fighter, with his defensive style overpowering Pacquaio, the win will forever be tainted by this injury.

If you watched any of Saturday’s fight, it was mightily disappointing. First off, it was never going to live up to expectations and, second, everyone knows Floyd Mayweather’s defensive style has a tendency to be quite boring. However, if pay-per-view buyers paid the $100 price tag, they were treated to circus-like events.

And uSports is not even talking about Jamie Foxx’s rendition of the national anthem. The weirdest part — which was also simultaneously the best part — of the whole event was both crews’ entourage.

The funnier one has to be Manny Pacquiao’s crew member, Jimmy Kimmel, who sported a very 90s look with one of the greatest shirts of all-time. The Pacman eating little heads of Mayweather was just comedy gold.

https://twitter.com/tmhfalsetto/status/594718704207822850

Now with Mayweather, everyone knew that Justin Bieber was going to be in his entourage, but who could have guessed that the Burger King mascot was going to make an appearance.

Honestly, I was confused as the creepiest looking mascot in the history of commercial entertainment was lurking in the background. But allegedly the fast food chain paid big money to have the mascot in the champ’s entourage, according to ESPN’s Darren Rovell.

While the actual amount is unknown, it is allegedly reported in the millions. And people thought that no company would endorse Mayweather.

In one of the most anticipated sporting events of the decade, Floyd Mayweather took the victory in his bout against Manny Pacquiao in Las Vegas on Saturday night. Mayweather won the fight unanimously, with the judges’ scores being 118-110, 116-112, and 116-112.

Mayweather survived some flurries of punches from Pacquiao in the early rounds and maintained his usually defensive strategy to come away with a dominant victory. Pacquaio had no answers for Mayweather, who although had no showstopping punches, was highly effective and landed a high 34-percent of his punches. Pacquiao only landed 81 punches overall; Mayweather had 81 power punches alone.

The fight disappointed some fans who were expecting a knockout blow or a back and forth fight, but the match fit in with Mayweather’s style. Mayweather’s matches usually go the full 12 rounds as he usually takes fights from a defensive stance rather than going on the offensive. The judges also tend to score based on punches landed rather than sequences of punches. While the crowd cheered with enthusiasm whenever Pacquiao threw a string of punches, Mayweather’s constant landings were much more effective towards winning the match.

The fight at the MGM Grand was one of the hottest tickets in boxing history, as a who’s who of the rich and famous were among the crowd on Saturday night. It was a huge draw outside of Vegas as well, with the pay-per-view going for $99.99. The expected payout is estimated to be more than $200 million among the two boxers.

Mayweather now moves to 48-0 in his career. His next match is scheduled for September, where he will go to attempt to tie Rocky Marciano’s all-time record of 49-0. Mayweather currently plans to retire after that match. Pacquiao didn’t reveal his future plans yet, other than taking some time off after this fight to get some rest.

During Floyd Mayweather’s interview with ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, he had some choice words for the man that many consider the greatest of all-time, Muhammad Ali.

“No one can ever brainwash me to make me believe that Sugar Ray Robinson and Muhammad Ali was better than me,” Mayweather told Smith. “But one thing I will do: I’m going to take my hat off to those guys and respect those guys because those are the guys that paved the way for me. Leon Spinks beat him when he had seven fights. They’d never put a fighter in there with Floyd Mayweather with seven fights.”

Of course, Muhammad Ali responded to the comments. But now staunch defender of Ali, Mike Tyson, has weighed in on the issue. And his response is a lot more vicious than what he did to Evander Holyfield.

“He’s very delusional. Listen, if he was anywhere near that realm of greatness with Ali, he’d be able to take his kids to school by himself,” Tyson told UCN. “He can’t take his kids to school by himself, and he’s talking about he’s great? Greatness is not guarding yourself from the people, greatness is being accepted by the people. He can’t take his kids alone to school by himself. He’s a little, scared man. He’s a very small, scared man.”

Well that has to leave a mark. The only thing that would have made that comment even more effective is if he immediately dropped the microphone.

It is safe to say who Tyson is rooting for on Saturday.

During the above clip, the two discuss who they are rooting for during  Saturday’s monumental boxing event. Afterwards Diddy asked, “You want to put $100,000 on it?” Mark Wahlberg quickly responded with, “Why so little?” The two finally agree to gamble $250,000 like it is chump change. Still, this little exchange seemed like it was mostly for show and not serious.

But Mark Wahlberg confirmed the bet, according to TMZ Sports. “He already paid, it’s in escrow,” the Transformers 4 star said.

When asked what the stars would do with the money, Mark said that both will donate it to charity. “To Manny’s favorite charity or Floyd’s favorite charity,” Wahlberg continued.

Tune in to see who wins on Saturday, May 2.

In the midst of the Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather excitement, which has seemed to ignite a passion for boxing that has been unseen for quite some time, many folks have been weighing in on the boxers’ legacy: particularly, where the two stand on the all-time list.

This notion reached a fever pitch after Mayweather’s interview with ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith aired last week. During their conversation, he disagreed that Muhammad Ali is the greatest of all-time because the man only fought in one weight class.

“No one can ever brainwash me to make me believe that Sugar Ray Robinson and Muhammad Ali was better than me,” Mayweather told Smith. “But one thing I will do: I’m going to take my hat off to those guys and respect those guys because those are the guys that paved the way for me.”

He even used Leon Spinks as proof. The fighter lost to Ali in their initial bout in 1978, but beat him just a few months later. “Spinks beat him when he had seven fights,” he said. “They’d never put a fighter in there with Floyd Mayweather with seven fights.”

Now, it is understandable why Mayweather thinks this way. As Ronda Rousey pointed out, to stay on top, you have to believe you are the best. However, George Foreman, legendary boxer and grill salesman, told TMZ Sports that he believes Mayweather is better than him and Ali.

“Pound for pound, Floyd is better than me and Muhammad Ali ever were,” Foreman said to TMZ Sports. “This is a better generation by far. They’re smarter, they’re stronger, they’re overall just better fighters… We were good and we liked the attention that we got. But boxing is on a different level. This is an amazing generation.”

What did arguably the greatest fighter and trash talker of all-time have to say about this?

The Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather fight is just a few days away and tickets are still being sold on StubHub. And as most expected, the tickets cost a ridiculous amount with ringside seats listed at $351,005.25 and the lowest asking price being $3,837 for upper deck seats.

Needless to say, people will have to shell out a ton of cash if they want to see this legendary fight in person. And recently, ESPN analyst Darren Rovell has been covering any developments in these ticket prices. For instance, “StubHub has sold 347 tickets with a $6,553 per ticket average.”

On top of this, he has reported, with the help of Kyle Jamesthat a single ticket on StubHub sold yesterday for under $41,000.

I guess if I had $41,000 just lying around, I would spend it on this once in a lifetime fight. However, it still pains me to see that much money spent on a single item. Personally, no sporting event is worth more than $200.

As for what the ticket looks like, Rovell just tweeted a picture of them. Does the ticket look like it is worth $41,000? The answer to that question is a resounding no.

Floyd Mayweather talked about his rough childhood, his monumental fight against Manny Pacquiao and the domestic abuse charges that sent him to jail in 2010, in a new interview with Katie Couric.

As for the latter, the boxer explicitly stated that he never laid his hands on his ex Josie Harris, despite contradicting reports from the victim and their son. “Did I kick, stomp and beat someone? No, that didn’t happen,” Floyd told Couric. “I look in your face and say, ‘No, that didn’t happen.'”

“Did I restrain a woman that was on drugs? Yes, I did. So if they say that’s domestic violence, then you know what? I’m guilty. I’m guilty of restraining someone.” The boxing champion did two months of a 90-day jail sentence after pleading guilty to misdemeanor battery.

Now, when asked, what are his biggest concerns with the Pacquiao bout? “Nothing at all,” he replied. “I know I’m great. It’s not bragging, I know I’m great. I got here somehow, someway, doing the right things [and] pushing myself.”

Mayweather is currently pushing himself with three grueling workouts per day and a healthy diet made by a private chef. He always comes to a fight prepared and that is why this bout, which is a decade in the making, will be one of the biggest paydays in boxing history.
