Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Louis Murphy awoke in a very strange place after attending Chicago Bears receiver Deonte Thompson’s wedding in Palm Beach, Florida over the weekend.

Buccaneers WR Louis Murphy Woke Up Locked In Museum

Murphy found himself locked in the courtyard of the Flagler Museum on Saturday morning, according to the Palm Beach Daily News, following the wedding of Thompson, his former Florida Gators teammate. He broke a pane of glass to unlock a door that allowed him to get a phone to call police. Murphy told the responding officers he had been drinking during the festivities and was abandoned by the rest of the wedding guests after he fell asleep on stairs in a courtyard.

“This was really just a series of small unfortunate circumstances,” Murphy said in a statement via the Tampa Bay Times. “With no one around, my only option was to break a small glass pane of the door in order to access a phone and call for help. I dialed the police and explained that I needed assistance. It’s unfortunate that I needed to break the glass, but the police officers on the scene and museum staff acknowledged that I didn’t have many other options. I’m working with the museum to ensure everything is properly handled.”

The museum manager estimated that the broken glass would cost Murphy approximately $1,000 to repair. The 29-year-old receiver was not charged with any crime.

His incident preceded a similar one that occurred to another NFL star over the holiday weekend. Jaguars running back Denard Robinson fell asleep at the wheel Saturday night and drove into a pond in Florida, where he was found Sunday morning.

Murphy has been one of the team’s most active players in the community, especially through his “1st Downs 4 Life” foundation, which last month hosted a free youth football camp for local kids in St. Petersburg. He’s entering his third season with the Bucs, and caught 10 passes for 198 yards last year before suffering a season-ending knee injury, which required surgery. The Bucs report for training camp July 27, and Murphy has been held out of offseason practices as he recovers from his surgery.
