Jordan Spieth will be rocking some new shoes as he walks onto Augusta National this weekend in hopes of winning his second career Masters tournament.

The 2015 green jacket winner opened up these new Under Armour shoes on his Instagram, showcasing a new pair of special-edition Drive Pro Clone shoes. The special part about these shoes is that they have printed azaleas on the tongues and azalea prints around the heels. The golfer will also be rocking an azalea-printed shirt this weekend, along with the shoes.

It has been almost a decade since Spieth captured major glory, his last major championship coming in 2017 when he won the Open Championship at Royal Birkdale. Spieth is currently +4200 to capture the green jacket and is -350 to make the cut according to DraftKings Sportsbook.

Spieth tees off on Thursday at 1:20 p.m. Eastern time for the first round of the Masters, and he will be paired with Justin Rose and Brooks Koepka.

Charlie Woods, son of golfing legend Tiger Woods, qualified for his first USGA Tournament on Wednesday. The 15-year-old had the best qualifying score ahead of the U.S. Junior Amateur next month.

“I didn’t play great my first two holes, but I played really good for the last 16,” Woods told reporters. “I just told myself not to make any more bogeys or doubles, and I took advantage of some nice birdie looks when I had them.”

Woods has been in the public eye since his earliest days playing golf. At the 2024 Masters, he served as his father’s swing coach, likely an honorary title but a lofty one for the young man. As the son of one of the sport’s legends, he has remained in the back of fans’ minds for a long time as he makes his way through the amateur levels of the sport. At 15, he seems to be well on his way.

On Wednesday at Eagle Trace Golf Club in Coral Springs, Florida, Woods overcame a rocky start to finish 1-under 71 and qualify for his first Junior Amateur. Tiger Woods qualified for his first Junior Amateur at 14 and went on to win the event three times before turning 19.

The U.S. Junior Amateur has produced countless PGA players since it was first held in 1948. Tiger Woods stands out as the only three-time winner, but Jordan Spieth won the event twice in 2009 and 2011, while Scottie Scheffler won in 2013.

For Charlie, winning an event of this caliber should not necessarily be the expectation, though he has stated that that is his intention. His USGA debut will likely represent another step on a path that many fans hope will lead to a highly successful career in the sport. These are very early days yet.

Despite popular opinion, sports aren’t a life-or-death matter. Though the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am almost became so this weekend.

Jordan Spieth got as close to the cliffs at Pebble Beach as he possibly could in the third round on Saturday afternoon, and he eventually saved par in what was “by far the most nerve-wracking shot I’ve ever hit in my life.”

So nerve-racking, in fact, that he had to take off running backward after his shot just so he didn’t fall the nearly 70 feet down onto the rocks and beach below.

Spieth’s drive on the par-4 eighth hole landed just a few inches from the edge of a 68-foot cliff.

We don’t suggest approaching any such approach shot.

The shot itself wasn’t great, it landed long of the green in the rough, but he was potentially facing a 70-foot death drop. Let’s see you make solid contact in that situation. And, as we mentioned, he even saved par.

Furthermore, Spieth nearly set the course record as the 28-year-old posted a 9-under 63 to jump up more than 30 spots on the leaderboard and get within one stroke of the leader(s) headed into Sunday’s final round.

Colin Morikawa won his second major at the British Open 2021, notably beating three other former major winners: Jordan SpiethLouis Oosthuizen and Jon Rahm. This win came in Morikawa’s first-ever trip to this golf tournament, the oldest tournament in the world.

This major has the oldest average age for a champion over the last decade, but the young Morikawa did not seem phased. Over the last 30 holes, Morikawa capitalized with eight birdies and not a single bogey.

Morikawa is known as one of the best iron players in the world, despite still only being 24 years old. He hit 75% of greens in regulation.

Morikawa never pulled away by a comfortable margin as Spieth was always right behind him. Despite this pressure, Morikawa was able to sink impressive puts on holes 10, 14 and 15 in the final round.

“Everything about my stats say I’m not a good putter statistically. I feel like I can get a lot better. But in these situations, I feel like everything is thrown off the table. Forget about all your stats, who can perform well in these situations. That’s why I think, over the past few majors, you’ve seen a lot of the same names up there because they believe in their game, they know what they’re doing when they practice, and they’re able to bring it out in these big moments,” said Morikawa about his clutch shots on the green.

Spieth commended Morikawa on his ability to handle the big moments. “I think what’s interesting with Collin, too … his other wins had come with little to no crowds … and then some with modified crowds. Then you step into 35,000 and holding a lead down the stretch, I think is really impressive considering that’s not only his first Open Championship, but given the timing of when he’s been out here,” Spieth said. “He spent a year, year and a half of that in essentially a crowd-less environment, and this is harder. It’s harder with big crowds. You feel it more. You know where you are. It’s a bigger stage. I think that’s impressive.”

Morikawa has been remarkably impressive in what is just the mere beginning of his career. Morikawa has reached several milestones such as becoming just the fourth American to win The Open before the age of 25, joining Spieth, Bobby Jones and Tiger Woods.

Morikawa has received high praise and little criticism. His innocent manner and kid-like enthusiasm have earned him plenty of support. Morikawa’s youth is visible in his aggressive swing and style and he never seems to second guess himself.

Morikawa discussed his immediate pro success: “I think when you make history — and I’m 24 years old — it’s hard to grasp, and it’s hard to really take it in. At 24 years old, it’s so hard to look back at the two short years that I have been a pro and see what I’ve done because I want more. I enjoy these moments and I love it, and I want to teach myself to embrace it a little more, maybe spend a few extra days and sit back and drink out of this jug.”

“I just want more. When you’re in these moments and you truly love what you do, which I love playing golf and competing against these guys, these are the best moments ever because the nerves push you to just be a better person.”

John Rahm logged a historic victory at the U.S. Open, and he was rewarded with a major ascendance in the FedExCup standings from spot 19 to second place. With the win, Rahm now qualifies for his fifth consecutive TOUR Championship event and has also reclaimed the top spot in world rankings.

The TOUR Championship is the final event of the FedExCup playoff series, with the top 30 players being given an invitation to fight for the FedexCup, a battle that will take place over Labor Day weekend.

With this most recent victory, Rahm has given himself an opportunity to win both the U.S. Open and FedExCup – a feat last accomplished by Jordan Spieth in 2015. Patrick Cantlay still sits ahead of Rahm in the playoff standings, however. He holds a 137-point lead over the red-hot swing of Rahm.

The Master’s Tournament begins tomorrow!

While the 2020 edition of the Masters was just played five months ago, much has changed since then. Jordan Spieth is in peak form and Jon Rahm just became a father. Rory Mcllroy is still searching for greatness and Dustin Johnson is attempting to go back-to-back. Bryson DeChambeau is still using his hulk-smash approach and Brooks Koepka is attempting to play after knee surgery. All of these happenings are sure to keep everyone on their toes.

As of Monday morning, The Masters has 88 golfers lined up to start the week. After 36 holes, the top 50 and ties proceed. Historically, anyone within 10 shots of the lead was included but this rule has since been removed with no indication of its return. With that being said, the tournament is more competitive now than ever before.

The Masters will take place at Augusta National, which is one of the most famous courses in the world. The course is par 72 setting up 7,475 yards on the scorecard. There are many routes to success at Augusta National Golf Course and it will set the elite well-rounded golfers apart from the rest. When it comes to turf, the golfers will see overseeded Bermuda from tee-to-green and bentgrass on putting surfaces. All in all, this is an event that golf lovers surely will not want to miss.

Jordan Spieth beats Matt Kuchar to win British Open 2017

Jordan Spieth‘s struggles are one of the biggest topics in golf. Even as the Masters approached, the 25-year-old Texas native couldn’t seem to get in his groove. Some expected him to use his home away from home as a reset but a 10-month slump continued by a three-over-75 performance isn’t an easy fix.

That’s not out of the ordinary. Momentum for any sport is huge but with golf and the Masters, it’s damn near essential. Over the last 16 years, close to every Masters winner has posted multiple top-15 performances in their Augusta warmups. Eight of the past nine and a total of 13 of the past 16 did so. And in the last seven years, six winners had three or more top-15 finishes. Spieth is obviously lacking in that quality.

While his game has always had holes in it, most notably putting, now it seems that everything has gone haywire. He’s outside the top 200 off-the-tee and is still at no. 175 in greens in regulation. Yet, Spieth is regarded as a championship contender when his numbers reflect that of someone struggling to even appear on the tour.

30 SPORTS FIGURES WHO DIED IN 2018 – TRIBUTE SLIDESHOW

Throughout the struggles, Spieth has preached practice and patience. Similar to Rory McIlroy, he acknowledges the process and not just winning.

“I feel like my recent results aren’t a tell of where my game is actually at,” Spieth said on Tuesday, “and I feel I’ve made a lot of strides in the last couple days in the tee‑to‑green game, really just off the tee, my long game, which has been the only separation from being able to win golf tournaments over the last month or so.”

But still, Spieth’s performance can’t be ignored. He birdied on the 16th hole and even shot for par on the 13th and 15th, the two easiest holes on the course. While there’s a great deal of hope that Spieth is in the midst of a down year, in a tie for no. 63, there’s not much hope he comes back Saturday.

When he breaks the slump is anyone’s guess. However, he did have one of the most interesting shots of the tour this week. Here it is below:

NASSAU, BAHAMAS - DECEMBER 02: Tiger Woods of the United States hits his shot on the second tee during round two of the Hero World Challenge at Albany, The Bahamas on December 2, 2016 in Nassau, Bahamas.

Tiger Woods may have struggled at the Players Championship in Florida on Sunday, having finished tied for 11th after shooting a 69 in the final round, but he still believes he could return to his previous form soon and Jordan Spieth agrees.

Tiger Woods Players Championship 2018 Comments

“He’ll win sometime soon enough,” Spieth told ESPN. The youngster tied for 41st after shooting a last-round 74 that included an 8 on the final hole. “He’s certainly playing well enough to do so. All in all, I think he played like a 5- or 6-under round, almost shot 7 or 8 and ended up with 3.”

“So his game, if I compare it to other guys that are winning golf tournaments that I’m playing with day to day, it’s right up there.”

According to ESPN, Woods will take a two-week break and will likely return for The Memorial Tournament, which will take place from May 31 to June 3. Woods, 42, has won that event five times but has not participated in it in three years. He is ranked 80th in the world.

“There’s no way I would have predicted I would be at this point at the beginning of the year,” the four-time PGA Championship winner said, according to CNN. “But now I feel like I’ve got my playing feels back and I’m playing tournament golf. I’m not that far off from winning golf tournaments.”
Woods — who has also won four Masters Tournaments and three U.S. Opens — had spinal fusion surgery last year and underwent a rehabilitation program after a headline-grabbing DUI arrest near his home in Jupiter Florida in May 2017. Woods was found passed out in the front seat of his car, and was discovered to have been taking several different types of drugs, including sleep medication and pain medicine to treat his back and other issues. Woods also entered a DUI Diversion program as part of his plea deal.
Earlier in this weekend’s Players Championship in Ponte Vedra Beach, Woods was tied for second place with eventual winner Webb Simpson.
Woods finished with a score of 277, 11 under par and seven shots behind 32-year-old Simpson.

Patrick Reed may not be the most recognizable name in golf, but now he could be after winning the 2018 Masters Tournament at Augusta National on Sunday.

Reed closed one stroke ahead of Rickie Fowlera favorite to win the Masters who recorded six birdies in his final 11 holes to finish with a 67. Jordan Spieththe 2015 victor at Augusta, closed two strokes behind Reed.

After Reed — ranked 24th in the PGA Tour — sank a 4-foot shot to claim the victory, his caddie and brother-in-law Kessler Karain reportedly whispered “great f—g job” in his ear.

“It’s who is going to handle the pressure, and who is going to have more pressure on them,” Reed said of the feel of the competition. “Honestly, I felt like a lot of that pressure was kind of lifted and kind of taken off me. … You had a lot of the guys picking him to win over me, and it’s one of those things that the more chatter you hear in your ear about expectations and everything, the harder it is to play golf.”

McIlroy, a four-time major champion, was the only golfer in the top 16 to not break par. The 28-year-old Northern Irishman expressed frustration with his performance and said he would reflect on what he could have improved.

Spieth almost got rid of a nine-stroke deficit with a 64. He said many golfers enjoy playing against Reed because of the energy he brings to the game.

“Everybody loves battling Patrick,” Spieth said, “because he loves it so much and eats it up.”

Reed allegedly garnered a reputation as a player with several off-the-course issues during his time in college. He was reportedly kicked off his team at the University of Georgia. Then at Augusta State, his misdeeds reportedly included an arrest for underage drinking and also committed cheating violations, according to ESPN. Reed cited his coach Josh Gregory as one of the people who most helped him get his act together and change his behavior.

Tiger Woods shot a 69 Sunday to close at one over for the week.

By the end of the first day (Thursday) at the 2018 Masters TournamentJordan Spieth led all golfers at Augusta National at -6 following a performance that included five consecutive birdies.

Masters 2018 Round 1 Recap, Leaderboards, Highlights

Spieth, 24, won the 2015 Masters at the age of 21, his first major tournament victory that made him the second-youngest player to ever claim the trophy and wear the elegant green jacket behind only Tiger Woods.  Spieth shot a 66 in the opening round on Thursday, and his five-straight-birdie run began on the 13th hole.

Woods is seven strokes behind Spieth at +1, and tees off at 1:27pm EST on Friday (Round 2) alongside Marc Leishman and Tommy Fleetwood. Spieth teed off at 10:53am on Friday with Alex Noren, Louis Oosthuizen.

Here’s how Spieth did in Round 1:

From: Forbes.com.

Woods, a four-time Masters champion, last played at Augusta National in 2015. The 42-year-old last won the Tournament in 2005. On Thursday, he finished with a score of 73, one above par. Woods ended Round 1 tied for 29th place with 13 other golfers.

Sergio Garciathe defending Masters winner, ran into some water hazard-related problems on Hole No. 15 on Thursday. The 38-year-old Spaniard — ranked ninth in the PGA Tour World standings — earned a score of 13 on the 15th hole to finish with a 9-over par score of 89. Garcia was in a tie for last place at the end of Round 1.

Besides Spieth, another impressive player on Thursday was Tony Finau. The 28-year-old Salt Lake City native played through an ankle injury, which he sustained after celebrating a hole-in-one. Finau — who is 34th in the PGA Tour World Rankings — shot a surprising 68 (-4) to finish second at the end of Round 1.

Among the other golfers who finished Round 1 above par were Adam Scott (+4), Jason Day (+3), Jon Rahm (+3), Justin Thomas (+2), Dustin Johnson (+1) and Bubba Watson (+1).

Matt Kuchar, Phil Mickelson and Rickie Fowler were three players who had trouble with the first hole. The former two missed the fairway, while Fowler missed the green on his second stroke. Mickelson and Kuchar both made par, but Fowler failed to sink a 10-foot shot and fell to 1-under par. Fowler and Mickelson finished with a Round 1 score of 70 (-2), both tied with Leishman for 11th.

Jordan Spieth tossed the ceremonial first pitch at the Chicago Cubs‘ game against the New York Mets at Wrigley Field on Wednesday night.

Video: Jordan Spieth Throws Cubs’ First Pitch

The 24-year-old former World No. 1 golfer — who threw his pitch left-handed — has now thrown out three first pitches after performing the honors for the Texas Rangers and Boston Red Sox.

“It’s an honor to go out there,” said Spieth, who won his third major at the British Open in July. “People wonder how you can … wear the jerseys of all three teams. It’s great when they reach out and ask to go do it. It’s a tremendous opportunity and get to hang out with some baseball players I’m huge fans of. Last night I got to hang out with some of the Cubs guys, the heroes of Chicago from what they did last year winning the World Series.”

“The only way you end up on ESPN is if you really screw this one up,” the Dallas, Texas native added. “I kind of bailed a little high, but definitely was nervous walking out there.”

Spieth leads the FedEx Cup standings and is in the Chicago area for the BMW Championship.

The Cubs (79-66, first in National League Central) routed the Mets 17-5 on Wednesday, the second game of a three-game series. The two teams will face off again at Wrigley Field at 8:05 pm EST on Thursday, with righty Jen-Ho Tseng starting for Chicago in his MLB debut. Tseng will face off against Mets right-hander Seth Lugo.

Dustin Johnson rallied from five strokes behind to force a playoff and then defeat Jordan Spieth at the Northern Trust Open in Old Westbury, New York, on Sunday.

Dustin Johnson Northern Trust Victory News

Spieth entered the final round at Glen Oaks Club on Sunday with a three-stroke lead on Johnson, but the latter’s 4-under 66 thanks to an 18-foot putt to make par on the finale hole tied him with Spieth and forced a playoff. The 24-year-old — who won the British Open in July — gained a one-shot lead over Johnson with a birdie on Hole No. 14 before Johnson countered with a birdie on the 15th.

Johnson — the 2016 U.S. Open champion — hit an amazing 341-foot shot in his return to the 18th hole during the playoff before tapping in a short birdie putt to earn his fourth victory of the year.

The first playoff hole began with Spieth hitting a respectable 315-foot drive down the fairway. However, the young Texan then couldn’t make his approach shot stay on the green. He followed the iron approach with a birdie attempt from the fringe, but he couldn’t sink it to match Johnson.

Both Spieth and Johnson finished at 13-under 267 on Sunday.

Johnson’s victory marked his first since he injured his back while falling down stairs at Augusta to miss the Masterst Tournament in April. He had won three straight tournaments against strong fields until that injury.

“I feel like the game is finally back in form like it was before the Masters,” Johnson said.

Sunday’s victory also marked Johnson’s second Northern Trust trophy and fourth FedEX Cup Playoff title. The 33-year-old North Carolinian — who is now No. 1 in the world — took home $1.5 million on Sunday.

Spieth is ranked No. 2 in the world.

The final major golf tournament of 2017 begins on Thursday: the PGA Championship will start at Quail Hollow in Charlotte.

PGA Championship 2017 preview news

Here is all the information you need on how to watch this year’s tournament in North Carolina.

The PGA Championship will run from Aug. 10-13. Live coverage for Rounds 1 and 2 on Thursday and Friday will start on TNT at 1 pm EST and end at 7 pm. Practice rounds began on Monday, Aug. 7.

For Rounds 3 and 4 on Saturday and Sunday, live coverage starts on TNT at 11 am EST and then shifts to CBS beginning at 2 pm until 7 pm.

Jordan Spieth is seeking to become only the sixth player to complete a career Grand Slam after winning the British Open Championship at Royal Birkdale in Southport, England two weeks ago. Phil Mickelson and Rory McIlroy are also on their final leg of the Slam, and need a victory at the U.S. Open and Masters, respectively.

Spieth will have an opportunity to become the youngest golfer ever, at 24 years, 17 days old, to record a Grand Slam. This will be his only chance as the youngest, as Tiger Woods was the last to complete the Slam in 2000 at 24 years, 5 months old after hoisting the Claret Jug at St. Andrews.

Spieth will begin competing in the PGA Championship side-by-side with Sergio Garcia and Brooks Koepka — the 2017 Masters and U.S. Open winners, respectively — on Thursday at 8:25 a.m. EST.

McIlroy will be competing with a new caddie after he parted ways with longtime caddie J.P. Fitzgerald on the eve of the WGC Bridgestone Invitational on Wednesday, Aug. 2. The Northern Irishman will be seeking his fifth major title and his first since the 2014 PGA Championship at Valhalla. McIlroy boasts the best record at Quai Hollow: two Wells Fargo victories for a total of six top-ten finishes in seven starts on the course.

After 14 years hosting the Wells Fargo Championship, Quail Hollow will host the 99th PGA Championship as the first major tournament to be held in Charlotte.

World No. 38 Jimmy Walker was the 2016 PGA Championship winner.

Jordan Spieth beats Matt Kuchar to win British Open 2017

Jordan Spieth finished with a one-under-par-69 and posted a 72-hole score of 12-under 268 at the 146th British Open in Southport, England, on Sunday for his third major title.

Jordan Spieth NEWS: British Open highlights

The 23-year-old Dallas, Texas, native held a three-stroke lead in the final round of the tournament at Royal Birkdale. By the time he reached hole No. 13 on Sunday, that advantage had disappeared and Spieth — who won both the Masters and U.S. Open in 2015 — was tied with playing partner Matt Kuchar at 69.

By that point, Spieth was beginning to feel as concerned as he had felt in the 2016 Masters, where he blew a five-stroke lead in the last nine holes. The young American recorded a bogey on the par-4 13th after hitting a tee shot on the hole that ended up 40 yards to the right of the fairway and landed in high, thick grass, which forced him to take a penalty drop.

Spieth recovered quite nicely from that setback, however:

Spieth almost aced the par-3 14th, and then made one of his most incredible shots of the final round when he sank a 48-footer for an eagle on the par-5 15th to regain his lead over Kuchar by one shot.

The former world number one then sank a 25-foot birdie putt at the par-4 16th after his first drive on that hole landed in the rough. Spieth thus jumped to -11 to retake a two-stroke advantage.

Spieth and Kuchar both missed the fairway on the 17th, although the two players then also rebounded with birdie putts to retain a two-stroke difference before the 18th.

On the final hole, Spieth played it safe with his tee shot. His second stroke preceded a long birdie putt, and after Kuchar’s second shot landed in the bunker, Spieth made a par putt to seal his victory.

Spieth, 23, is now the youngest American to capture the British Open and the youngest champion overall since late Spaniard Seve Ballesteros in 1979. Spieth is also the second-youngest golfer after 18-time major champion Jack Nicklaus to secure three different major trophies.  Tiger Woods accomplished this at 24 and Rory McIlroy at 25.

“Closing today was extremely important for the way I look at myself,” said Spieth, who is also the only player to win 11 PGA Tour titles before the age of 24. He is now one PGA Championship title away from becoming the sixth man to complete a career Grand Slam, joining Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Nicklaus and Woods.

“Growing up playing golf, I just wanted to be able to play in major championships and compete with the best in the world, and things have happened very quickly,” said Spieth. “And it’s good and bad, because a lot comes with it. And a lot more attention versus just being able to kind of go about your own thing. And I never realized how underrated that was. I wanted to be in this position but then, it becomes harder when it doesn’t go your way. And you’re harder on yourself because you expect so much. Therefore, I’m going to thoroughly enjoy this.”

Zach Johnson, the 2015 British Open champion, was completely stunned by Spieth’s performance on Sunday.

“Words fail me,” Johnson said. “I can’t fathom it. Those are the intangibles, and the things I just don’t understand. I’m not suggesting I can’t do it. He just does it all the time.”

Spieth — who has jumped from third to second in the official world golf rankings behind only Dustin Johnson — is now the favorite to win this year’s 99th PGA Championship, which will begin at Quail Hollow in Charlotte, North Carolina on August 10. According to Las Vegas SuperBook, Spieth and McIlroy are both favored to win the PGA Championship (and thus also record a career Grand Slam) with 8-1 odds.

Jordan Spieth’s form may not be as strong as it was before, but he can still deliver some magic every now and then.

Jordan Spieth Beat Daniel Berger In A Playoff With a 60-foot Shot for Birdie

On Sunday, the 23-year-old Texan hit an impressive 60-foot shot for birdie from the green-side bunker on the 18th hole at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, CT to win the Travelers Championship in a playoff against Daniel Berger. Spieth — a two-time major champion — celebrated his fantastic drive by throwing his club and chest-bumping his caddie Michael Greller.

“That was one for the ages,” said Spieth, who won the AT&T Pro-Am Tournament at Pebble Beach in February. The youngster couldn’t even see the hole from where he took the shot.

The PGA Tour Twitter account called it the “shot of the year:”

Justin Thomas — another 23-year-old PGA Tour golfer — predicted Spieth’s ace on Twitter moments before the shot happened. Here is what Thomas — a Kentucky native and University of Alabama alum who is the World No. 8 — tweeted shortly before Spieth’s big ace:

Spieth led by one stroke after each of the first three rounds on Sunday. The 2015 Masters and U.S. Open winner finished with an even-par 70 to tie Berger — who birdied three of the last six holes for a 67 — to tie Berger at 12-under 268.

Berger — who won the FedEx St. Jude Classic two weeks ago before missing the cut last week at the U.S. Open — narrowly missed a 50-foot putt from off the 18th green left that would have forced a second playoff hole.

“Jordan does Jordan things,” said Berger, who won PGA Tour Rookie of the Year in 2015. “So there’s not really much you can say. I’m obviously disappointed, but happy to be in the position I was in today.”

The 24-year-old Florida native entered the round in third place, thee shots behind. Berger matched Spieth for an advantage with a 5-foot birdie putt on the 15th while Spieth bogeyed on the 14th, and tied Spieth again with a birdie from eight feet at the 17th.

On the final hole, Berger hit his approach shot into the same bunker as Spieth, and also saved par to force the playoff.

Berger struck his drive on the first playoff hole left and into the crowd behind a fairway bunker. His approach then flew off the green toward the left.

“If I was in Berger’s shoes, I would be cursing Jordan Spieth right now for the break off the tee and then holing a 30-yard bunker shot, that’s a lot of luck,” Spieth said.

Greller, who reiterated Berger’s assessment of Spieth, also reminded the latter before he took his final shot on Sunday that “magic happens here.”

Spieth and Tiger Woods are now the only PGA golfers to reach ten victories in the Tour era before the age of 24 since World War II. Woods won 15 times before his 24th birthday.

Sunday’s victory also marked Spieth’s first win in a tournament debut. Phil Blackmar was the previous golfer to claim the Travelers Championship in his first start in 1985.

Spieth also had some mediocre shots on Sunday, however. His first came on the 13th hole, when his drive flew right but remained on the side of a hill to steer clear of the water. He missed a seven-foot birdie putt, but saved par.

The Texan then hit his tee shot on the 15th left, narrowly missing the water and the hazard line in the rough. He chipped to the middle of the green and recorded a 16-foot putt for birdie, which he initially believed he had missed.

Spieth’s shot at 17 initially seemed like it would end up in the lake, although the ball ultimately fell right on the edge of the green and he made par.

“That’s a lot of luck,” Spieth said. “But I took advantage of the good breaks and am happy to come out on top.”

Spieth took home $1.2 million for winning the Travelers on Sunday. He previously made a hole-in-one from a bunker in 2013 at the John Deere Classic in Illinois:

Charley Hoffman (66) and Danny Lee (67) tied for third, three strokes back.

Grayson Murray logged the Travelers’ lone hole-in-one. The 23-year-old North Carolina native sank the 177-yard eighth hole in one shot to record his first ace on tour. Murray shot a 68 to finish at 5 under.

Spieth will next compete at the Open Championship in Southport, England on July 20.

Masters 2017 Round 2 Recap, Highlights, And Leaderboard

Johnson and his team had seemed sure on Wednesday he would be fine to play on Thursday after the 32-year-old American and World No. 1 golfer injured his lower back and elbows while falling down a short flight of stairs.

Charley Hoffman (-3) maintains the lead in the second round, though he’s falling off slightly. The 40-year-old American is, however, +3 for the day largely due to three straight bogeys early in the round.

Hoffman finished Round 1 with a 4-shot lead, the biggest advantage after just one round at Augusta in 62 years. Hoffman is playing in his fourth Masters, and has had much success in the tournament. He’s finished in the top 30 in all three previous events, including in 2015 when he opened the tournament with a 67 that had him tied for second behind eventual champion Jordan SpiethHoffman ended up tied for ninth that year.

Phil Mickelson (-1) started off the 2017 Masters strong, and is tied for fourth. Meanwhile, other top players like Spieth (+3), Jason Day (+2), Rickie Fowler (+1) and Rory McIlroy (E) all had varying performances on Thursday. McIlroy is the favorite to win this year’s Masters. Englishman Danny Willett won last year’s Masters after Spieth fell apart in the final round. Spieth recently said Johnson was the man to beat at Augusta this year.

Here is the recap of the first round on Thursday:

Spaniard Sergio Garcia, meanwhile, remains in contention after finishing with 69 and recording six birdies and three bogies. Here is the 70th-ranked 37-year-old faired on Friday:

Here’s a great putt from Rickie Fowler on Friday:

And here are the highlights from early-afternoon play on Friday:

Here is an interesting statistic common to all Masters winners from the last 11 years, and how it relates to this year’s opening round at Augusta:

Danny Willett Apologizes for Article Written by Brother

One year ago, Danny Willett capitalized on a series of mistakes from Jordan Spieth to win the Masters Tournament, his first major title.

Danny Willett gears up For 2017 Masters

Willett took the fabled green jacket from Spieth and won the $1.8 million first-place prize.

Now, the 29-year-old Englishman is gearing up for this year’s tournament at Augusta, Georgia which begins April 6.

Willett has reflected on his life-altering win from 2016, and how he hasn’t won a tournament since that event.

“It’s just getting everything in perspective and realizing what you’ve achieved is pretty special, that people don’t do that every day,” Willett told CNN’s Living Golf show. “It’s been a sharp learning curve for me because it did knock me back a little bit.”

Then 28, Willett was the first Brit to win in Georgia since Nick Faldo claimed the last of his three titles in 1996. He was also the first European champion since Spaniard Jose Maria Olazabal’s second win in 1999. Willett was ranked 12th in the world at the time.

Willett, a Sheffield native, wasn’t even originally going to participate in the 2016 Masters. His wife was due to give birth to their first child on the final Sunday.

The Englishman vowed to withdraw if his baby didn’t arrive before the tournament began, but his son ended up being born seven days before the first round, so he took a plane out to America.

Willett finished no better than tied 37th in the rest of the year’s three majors.

The reigning Masters champ also had to deal with a loss at the Ryder Cup last year, as well as the fallout from a scathing column his brother Peter wrote about American golf fans around that time.

The Masters victory gave him “unrealistic” expectations, he says.

“In terms of golfing heights it’s the pinnacle, and I achieved that day what you dream of achieving,” adds Willett, the third of four brothers from a mother who was a teacher and father who was a vicar. “Unfortunately your mind and body think you can do that every single day. If you compare every week to that week you’re going to be unhappy. I was working very hard but I was incredibly tough on myself if things weren’t going perfect in practice. Why? You’ve just done this (win the Masters).
“That’s the toughest thing to get sorted is the realization that this game is hard, and as fantastic and as good as the highs are, the lows will bring you straight back down to earth pretty quickly.”
We’ll see next week how Willett fares at this year’s Masters.

Dustin Johnsonthe world’s number one golfer, is on a hot streak right now, coming off a victory in the WGC-Dell Match Play in Austin last weekend to secure his third win in as many starts in 2017.

Jordan Spieth on how to Beat Dustin Johnson

Jordan Spiethwho has finished no lower than second in his three Masters appearances, (one victory, two runner-up finishes) knows how challenging it will be to defeat his fellow American at this year’s Masters, which begin April 6 in Augusta, Georgia.

“I think Dustin Johnson is the guy to beat in golf no matter where you are,” Spieth said at a news conference on Wednesday. “If I play my best golf, I believe that I can take down anybody, and you have to believe that.

“But I think that he is the guy that everyone is saying he’s playing the best golf in the world right now.”

Spieth, 23, also discussed what he is and isn’t concentrated on right now regarding his golf career.

“Major championships have huge weight and I’m not focused on trying to win majors to get to number one any more,” the World No. 6 added. “So, that side of things, getting number one isn’t the pressure that I feel, but that’s the only way to really take big strides towards him because I don’t think he’s letting up any time soon.”

Spieth, who at age 21 in 2015 became the second-youngest player to win the Masters, concluded by offering some advice on how to beat top players like Johnson.

“Fortunately I’ve played a lot of golf and competed against him on the weekends,” said Spieth, who tied for second last year following a catastrophic final-day meltdown that culminated in Englishman Danny Willett winning the 2016 Masters. “The way to do it is to not get caught up in his game. The thing that’s difficult about beating Dustin Johnson is, you get on the tee and by the time you’re hitting your second shot you’re already at a disadvantage on the hole.

“It’s trying not to feel that way and trying to recognize that you add them up at the end. There’s a lot of ways to do it.”
Spieth continued:”If you feel like you’re disadvantaged every hole, even though you are percentage-wise when you both hit a good tee shot, you’re probably not going to have a chance to beat him, he said.”If you play your own game, having the advantage of having been there before, him knowing that, too. He knows which guys have taken him down and are capable of it and he knows which guys are probably not going to be able to. And fortunately I feel like, you know, I can.”

Johnson’s World Match Play title win also made the 32-year-old South Carolinian the first player to win all four World Golf Championship events.

On Monday, Johnson withdrew from this week’s Houston Open.
