Out of the myriad drills at the NFL Combine, the 40-yard dash is always the most notable.

It makes perfect sense: Football is a game of speed, and what better way to gauge a player’s speed than watching him run 40 yards in a too-small spandex outfit?

A few tenths of a second can be the difference between moving up a few rounds and not getting drafted. It’s a vicious game, but one we love to watch.

Well, below are some of the best 40-yard dash showings the NFL Combine has ever seen.

Be careful, though: you may break the sound barrier just by watching.

John Ross broke the 40-yard dash record with an unofficial time of 4.22:
