Dallas Cowboys fans arrived at training camp Saturday, collectively fired up about the Micah Parsons contract situation. The All-Pro defender demanded a trade on Friday, and the Cowboys faithful took their chance the next day to express their support for the elite pass-rusher. And, they also heckled owner Jerry Jones a little bit.

Fans showed up with numerous signs at Saturday’s training camp practices, all calling for Jones to pay up and give Parsons the contract he deserves. One demanded he sell the team.

Tensions between Parsons and the Cowboys boiled over Friday when the four-time Pro Bowler stated he “no longer” wants to be in Dallas, where his NFL career officially began in 2021.

“I did everything I could to show that I wanted to be a Cowboy and wear the star on my helmet. I wanted to play in front of the best fans in sports and make this America’s team once again,” the first-round pick wrote. “Unfortunately, I no longer want to be here.”

Parsons, who has one year left on his rookie deal, recalled a March conversation he had with Jones, 82, about leadership, but “somehow turned into him talking contract with me.”

“Yes, I engaged in a back and forth in regards to what I wanted from my contract, but at no point did I believe this was supposed to be a formal negotiation, and I informed Mr. Jones afterward my agent would reach out, thinking this would get things done. But when my agent reached out and spoke to [ESPN’s] Adam [Schefter] he was told the deal was pretty much done. My agent, of course, told him that wasn’t the case and also reached to [Cowboys executive VP] Stephen Jones. Again, the team decided to go radio silent,” Parsons penned.

“Up to today, the team has not had a single conversation with my agent about my contract. Not one demand has been made by my agent about money, years or anything else. Still, I stayed quiet, but again, after repeated shots at myself and all the narratives I have made a tough decision: I no longer want to play for the Dallas Cowboys.”

Jones, who called out Parsons for missing time last year due to injury, offered his first comments on the bombshell trade request Saturday at training camp.

“I would say to our fans, don’t lose any sleep over this,” he told reporters. “We’re in good shape. This is negotiation.”

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones addressed fans before practice on Saturday and that appearance featured shouted pleas to pay Micah Parsons. It’s the latest development in the ongoing negotiations between the team and the star linebacker, who could become a free agent if not extended. Jones, flanked by cheerleaders, had to stop his speech as the outburst died down and there were some boos mixed in.

None of this is entirely surprising. And neither is Jones downplaying the ferocity of the “Pay Micah” crowd.

“I heard it light, but not compared to how I heard them say, ‘Pay Lamb [last year],'” Jones said, bringing up last year’s saga with CeeDee Lamb. “That was a faint little sound compared to the way they were hollering last year, ‘Pay Lamb.’ … Whoever’s not in, you can count on a few hollering that. But it was a big loud chant last year on Lamb.”

The Cowboys eventually signed Lamb to a $136 million contract in late August after the Cowboys returned to The Star in Frisco, Texas, from their summer home in Oxnard.

Jones was asked if there was an update on the Parsons talks after the organization signed tight end Jake Ferguson to a four-year contract worth up to $52 million on Sunday.

“Really I don’t have anything to comment there at all,” Jones said. “Just no comment.”

Executive vice president Stephen Jones said the Cowboys would keep all Parsons discussions “in-house.” But he, too, heard the fans Saturday.

“It doesn’t change anything,” he said. “We want to pay Micah, too. He’s got to want to be paid, too.”

The Cowboys’ talk with Ferguson intensified not long before training camp, before coming to an agreement Saturday night on a deal that includes $30 million guaranteed and a $12 million signing bonus.

“People say, ‘Oh, there’s other spots you could go,'” Ferguson said. “I remember sitting down, [thinking], ‘I remember sitting down, [thinking], ‘I don’t want to be anywhere else.’ Playing here is awesome. From the start, it’s been a privilege to wear this star.”

The NFL Draft is just a day away, but Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys are looking at more than just their draft board to improve the team.

Jones, the Cowboys’ owner and general manager, said after a news conference on Tuesday that the Cowboys are working on a “pretty substantive trade.”

The Cowboys’ front office has been criticized during the offseason for not making many notable trades or free agent acquisitions. If the Cowboys can acquire a major piece and hit on their draft picks, the narrative around their offseason would flip.

“We’re looking at two things that could happen before or after the draft,” Jones said to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

The Cowboys have over $37 million in cap space, the sixth most in the NFL. While a chunk of that will go to the Cowboys’ draft selections, that money could be essential in acquiring a star in a trade.

The Cowboys have also been working on an extension for superstar Micah Parsons. Jones has previously said that Parsons and the Cowboys have agreed on the general terms of the contract, but need to work out the finer details.

So far in the offseason, the Cowboys have added linebacker Kenneth Murray Jr., running backs Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders, cornerback Kaiir Elam and defensive lineman Solomon Thomas. The move that made the most noise in the offseason was acquiring second-year quarterback Joe Milton, who surprised NFL fans with his week 18 performance.

The players Dallas would trade for are relatively unknown. There have been rumors surrounding Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens, however, nothing is set in stone.

The Dallas Cowboys and head coach Mike McCarthy parted ways on Monday, following a 7-10 campaign in 2024 that grossly underperformed expectations.

The Cowboys began the 2024 season with postseason aspirations, having extended core pieces Dak Prescott and Ceedee Lamb over the offseason. Despite having a stellar regular season record under McCarthy, they had just one playoff win over his four-year tenure. The last straw would be a miserable 3-7 start to the 2024 season, featuring blowout losses to the New Orleans Saints, Detroit Lions and Philadelphia Eagles, which never recovered despite a midseason 4-1 push.

The story of McCarthy has been as much a fixture as the team’s performance itself over the course of the season, amplified by the Cowboys’ massive media reach and comments made by owner Jerry Jones. Following the season’s end a Week 18 loss to the Washington Commanders McCarthy’s status was still unknown for a week despite Jones implying he had made the decision. The Cowboys even went so far as to deny the Chicago Bears an interview before McCarthy hit free agency.

Jones’ mercurial behavior often made front-page news in the NFL, and doesn’t help with years-long complaints that he is too engaged with the team. “He wanted to be right more than he wanted to win,” said one X user.

Even working with Jones, though, can’t tarnish the shine of a Dallas head coaching job entirely. The roster has young proven talent, particularly Lamb and linebacker/DE Micah Parsons, and coaching America’s Team is a not uncommon dream.

Candidates reportedly include Colorado coach and former Cowboys cornerback Deion Sanders, Eagles (formerly Cowboys) offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, former Jets head coach Robert Saleh and Seahawks assistant head coach Leslie Frazier.

Jones is reportedly “enamored with the idea” of bringing Sanders back to Dallas, particularly given his success in Colorado this year, and Sanders “would almost certainly accept” as well, although he has not been officially interviewed yet.

Meanwhile, the Cowboys have scheduled interviews with both Saleh and Frazier. Saleh, a defensively-minded coach, was fired by the Jets after a 2-3 start (the team would go 3-9 down the stretch, with worsening defensive play), and has other options in Jacksonville and Las Vegas. Frazier has been somewhat of a journeyman since parting ways with the Minnesota Vikings as head coach in 2013, working with four teams in that span.

Dallas has also requested an interview with Moore, who is one of the more controversial names on the slate, given the team let him go as the offensive coordinator two years ago. If the request is granted, he will not speak with the Cowboys until the Eagles’ playoff run ends.

While the final decision is still up in the air, there seems to be no shortage of willing candidates (at this point, at least). It remains to be seen who will step into McCarthy’s shoes and Jones’ employ.

The Dallas Cowboys haven’t made it past the divisional round since their last Super Bowl in 1996.

They’ve made the playoffs 12 times since, including the past three years, and have just five Wild Card wins to show for it. Worse than that, the Cowboys got blown out by the Green Bay Packers last December as the second seed for context, the seventh seed had never in NFL history beaten the second seed before that meeting.

The loss was humiliating, and it raised red flags in a number of areas of the organization: the players, the culture, the coaching. These flags got more pressing as the 2024-25 season commenced, and the Cowboys began to lose even their regular-season success, following a blowout season opener against the Cleveland Browns by going 2-7 in their next nine.

Sitting at 3-7, head coach Mike McCarthy was pretty clearly in the hot seat. Newly extended star quarterback Dak Prescott was ruled out for the rest of the season, and key pieces, including Trevon Diggs, Zack Martin and DeMarcus Lawrence, all missed time.

Then the Cowboys won four of their next five, and things became a lot less clear.

Their fourth win came on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a team that controlled their destiny to the NFC South title and a playoff spot. Although the Cowboys had been eliminated from postseason contention just before the game as the Commanders beat the Eagles, they pulled out a gutsy win from all areas of the roster, highlighting the growth of their young depth players.

“Proud of those guys. They wouldn’t give it up out there. So I’m real, real proud of them,” said owner Jerry Jones following the game. “And Mike McCarthy, he just won’t let them not think they’re playing for the Super Bowl out there. He won’t let them do it. So proud of that.”

Jones isn’t alone in his praise of McCarthy, either. Prescott voiced his desire for McCarthy to return as recently as last week, and he was joined in that by Micah Parsons.

“I would like a fair shot with everyone back players, coaches because the injuries kind of struck of what this season could really be,” said Parsons. He praised his own relationship with McCarthy, which has grown more visible as younger players like himself and Ceedee Lamb have had to take up leadership responsibilities.

Parsons, one of the best linebackers the NFL has to offer, is due for a contract extension this offseason as well.

Despite a horrible start, the Cowboys have been able to flip the narrative at least somewhat and that’s not nothing. Their shift in momentum, pulling wins out without a quarter of their starting roster, owes itself in no small part to the locker room and coaching. McCarthy, for all his playoff woes, is proving and promising something: a winning culture.

The decision ultimately lies in Jones’ hands. Still, the optics look good for McCarthy, particularly as details continue to come out about players like Lamb stepping up and playing through injury despite an effectively lost season.

“We started the conversation talking about how good a job, I think, with the circumstances that we’ve been dealing with, how good a job the coaching staff is doing,” Jones said.

“It’s led by Mike McCarthy. And that’s what we’re doing. I’m saying just what I’m saying. I’m very impressed with how this team and how it’s playing, and the level of tenacity, and I’m impressed with the fact we’ve got a lot of young players getting a lot of experience out there. The future looks bright there with those players.”

Dallas will cap off its season with games against divisional rivals: at the Eagles on Dec. 30 and at home versus the Commanders on Jan. 5.

Dallas Cowboys Owner/General Manager/President Jerry Jones went on a media tirade after the blow-out loss to the Detroit Lions and Monday on a Dallas radio station.

For those that missed, the Cowboys fell behind by more than three touchdowns at home for the third time in their first six weeks of the season. The Lions blew the doors off their in-conference rival, leaving Big D with a 47-9, the second time the Cowboys allowed 40 points or more this season. Through six weeks, they do not possess the talent of the other rosters in the NFC and look to be losing hold over the NFC East with the surging Washington Commanders and Philadelphia Eagles. After the game, Jones met with the media and did not pull any punches.

“This was very concerning, and it was very humbling, and I felt bad because of all of our great fans, and especially the ones at the stadium, and certainly the ones that are all about the Cowboys. So we’ve got a lot of work to do,” Jones said. “I’m glad we got this bye week coming up here. It’ll give everybody an opportunity to get out and actually practice. Practice what it is that takes you to be more successful than a game like this. This was a shocker.”

The next day, he scorched Earth on a radio station.

“You really think you’re going to sit here with a microphone and tell me all of the things that I’ve done wrong and without going over the rights? Listen, we both know we’re talking to a lot of great fans, a lot of great listeners. And I’m very sorry for what happened out there Sunday. I’m sick about what happened Sunday.”

Jones turned 82 on Sunday, the day of the loss. Not a very happy birthday for him.

TAMPA, FL - NOVEMBER 15: Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones talks with fans during a game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium on November 15, 2015 in Tampa, Florida.

The Dallas Cowboys have been in the news the entire NFL off-season, mainly focused on their lack of moves in free agency or not signing contract extensions for their two stars, quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver Ceedee Lamb, to contract extensions.

Early in the week, Cowboys owner/GM/president Jerry Jones went on a tirade explaining why he should be the team’s general manager for the foreseeable future. All quotes are from DLLS in Dallas:

“I’ve done it all. So I have an ordinate amount of confidence that f—, if anybody can figure out how to get this s— done, I can figure out how to get it done,” Jones said. “I’ve been there every which way from Sunday, and have I busted my ass a bunch, a bunch. And there’s nobody living that’s out cutting and shooting that can’t give you a bunch of times they busted their ass. So hell no, there’s nobody that could f—— come in here and do all the contracts … and be a GM any better than I can.”

“The reason I don’t let somebody else be the GM is because I don’t have anybody that I will let do it to actually do it right. And they’re gonna have to come to me and because I know where it is that you’re going to pay for it.”

After ranting, Jones went to work, signing Lamb to a four-year $136 million extension on Monday, just four million less than the amount of Minnesota Vikings wideout Justin Jefferson. Lamb went to Twitter multiple times to express his frustration with the negotiations. Still, his patience paid off, and he will be in a Cowboys uniform for their opening game against the Cleveland Browns.

All eyes turn to Prescott as he enters the 2024 season in the last year of his deal. The quarterback hopes to be paid in line with the other top signal callers, who make over $50 million a year.

The Dallas Cowboys have restructured quarterback Dak Prescott‘s contract to free up an extra $4 million in cap space for the upcoming season. Prescott is yet to land an extension with Dallas, but the restructuring of his deal means that his $5 million roster bonus will turn into a singing bonus of the same amount, while also adding two additional void years to the contract. Instead of the $40 million he was expected to make, Prescott will have a salary of $29 million for the 2024 season.

Prescott was set to have a $59.4 million cap on Dallas this season, but with the restructuring, it will lowered to $54.25 million. The added void years mean that he will be paid a lower amount for the remainder of his current deal. But if Prescott isn’t signed to a team during those void years, he will stay on the Cowboy’s payroll.

If Precott isn’t signed to an extension or to a new team by 2025, $40 million of dead cap would remain for Dallas. The void years of his contract end in 2028, so at the very worst, the Cowboys will be without a total of $14 million in cap space from 2026-2028 if Prescott doesn’t receive an extension or new contract.

Prescott was signed to a four-year $160 million deal by the Cowboys in 2021, and in the 45 games he’s played since the extension he has thrown for 11,825 yards with 96 touchdowns and 34 interceptions. Playing all 17 games last season, the 30-year-old threw for the third most passing yards and the most passing touchdowns in the league by a decent margin. Along with the stats, Prescott helped lead Dallas to a 12-5 record the past three seasons but only won one of their four playoff games in that span.

Prescott is a starting-level quarterback in the league but has gone through some rough patches with the team following multiple injuries and sub-par performances in big games. The team and owner/general manager Jerry Jones in the past have expressed their desire to resign Prescott to another long-term deal, but the restructuring of his current contract means they aren’t getting the original value they expected from a player of his caliber. Prescott has also said he wants to resign with the team, and they’ll have to make a decision soon to save cap space down the road.

The $4 million freed up for Prescott’s contract might not seem like a lot in the NFL, but the money saved by the Cowboys could be crucial. Up next for Dallas is resigning wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and 2021 Defensive Rookie of the Year Micah Parsons, both of whom will be asking for large extensions for a Cowboys’ team that clearly knows they have to move some money around.

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott comes into the 2024 season on the last year of his 4-year $160 million deal he signed with the team. Expected to finish out his contract making $59.4 million next year, Prescott hopes he can resign with Dallas in the form of a more financially manageable extension.

“It helps with the team and it helps with the numbers,” Prescott said. “Everything is great. It’ll happen.”

While Prescott is confident a new deal with the Cowboys will get done, owner Jerry Jones recently said that the extension ‘isn’t a necessity.’ The 30-year-old Prescott has been with Dallas for the entirety of his career beginning in 2016, but since then the team has seen little playoff success despite finishing first or second in the division in all but one of those years. Excluding the 2020 year which saw him out with a severe ankle injury, Prescott has led the team to a 75-49 record in the regular season. The team reached the playoffs in five of those seasons, with the team losing twice in the Wild Card Round and three times losing in the Divisional Round.

As a starting level quarterback, Prescott sits a tier below the likes of Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen. With the ability to put up pretty good stats on a pretty good team, Prescott and the Cowboys should have seen more success in the eyes of many fans, but that hasn’t been the case.

In 2023 Prescott threw more than 4,500 yards for 36 touchdowns and nine interceptions in what was the second best statistical season of his career as the team won the NFC East division. Despite that, the Cowboys have yet to fully give their confidence and trust into Prescott to be the face of the franchise in the form of a new contract extension. Officially there have been no direct contract negotiations between Dallas and their starting quarterback, though Jones said he had no fear this being Prescott’s last season in a Cowboy uniform.

Prescott is confident a deal can be reached, but the organization has yet to come out to give a direct answer to the question of if he will be signed to another contract. Though there has been no official contract offered yet, the two parties have until August to agree to an extension, either making it Prescott’s last year in Dallas, or just another one of many.

Though a having a starting quarterback might be the top priority for other teams around the NFL, Dallas has other star players they need to lock down before they can offer Prescott a deal similar to that of what he was already making. In the meantime, the Cowboys will do their best to renegotiate and resign wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and linebacker Micah Parsons to long term contracts. Once the team has it’s other pieces in place, then they will try to get a deal done with Prescott.

The Dallas Cowboys hired Steve Shimko as an offensive assistant, marking their fifth assistant hire this off-season. Shimko will replace Will Harriger, who recently accepted the quarterbacks coach position for the Carolina Panthers.

Shimko has spent the last four seasons at Boston College and was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2023. Before that, he was an offensive assistant for the Seattle Seahawks under Brian Schottenheimer, the Cowboys’ current offensive coordinator.

The 34-year-old coach, who also played as a quarterback at Rutgers between 2008 and 2010, is the first assistant Dallas has hired on offense. The team has been overhauling its defensive staff, however, as coordinator Dan Quinn has departed to become the Commanders’ head coach. Mike Zimmer has stepped into his role and three additional assistants have been hired. It is a drastic response, though it did not extend as far as some expected.

The Cowboys organization was initially criticized for standing by head coach Mike McCarthy following a shocking 48-32 loss to the Packers in the Wild Card round. But while owner Jerry Jones is keeping upper management in place, the Dallas staff under McCarthy will look vastly different in 2024.

Since 2021, McCarthy has led the Cowboys to three straight 12-win seasons but the team has not made it out of the divisional round, prolonging a drought dating back to 1996. Jones originally seemed to imply multiple times that he would consider a head coaching change in 2023, but eventually cited McCarthy’s regular season record as a reason to keep him on staff.

“Mike (McCarthy) has the highest regular-season winning percentage of any head coach in Cowboys history and we will dedicate ourselves, in partnership with him, to translating that into reaching our postseason goals,” Jones said. “Certainly, Mike’s career has demonstrated postseason success at a high level, and we have great confidence that can continue.”

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones announced Wednesday that the team will not part ways with head coach Mike McCarthy. McCarthy has taken most of the blame for the team’s unexpected 48-32 playoff loss to the Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card round last weekend.

“I believe this team is very close and capable of achieving our ultimate goals and the best step forward for us will be with Mike McCarthy as our head coach,” Jones said in a statement. “There is great benefit to continuing the team’s progress under Mike’s leadership as our head coach.”

After a disappointing 2020 season with Dallas, McCarthy has led the Cowboys to three straight 12-5 seasons and three trips to the playoffs. Despite entering each postseason as a Super Bowl contender, however, the team has never even reached the NFC Championship game, continuing a drought for the franchise going back to 1996.

In his statement, Jones cited McCarthy’s regular season success as a reason to keep him in the organization. This conflicts with many reports which suggested that Jones would evaluate his head coach on the basis of his last game.

“Specifically, there are many layers of success that have occurred this season as a result of Mike’s approach to leading the team, both with individual players and with our team collectively. Mike has the highest regular season winning percentage of any head coach in Cowboys history and we will dedicate ourselves, in partnership with him, to translating that into reaching our postseason goals.”

Regardless of whether one is in favor or against McCarthy, it is inarguably that the Cowboys lost to the Packers after suffering a systemic failure. Quarterback Dak Prescott, an MVP candidate coming off the best season of his career, was completely ineffective in the first half, throwing two interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown. His stats are inflated because the team made up ground late in the game while trailing.

The defense, ranked among the very best in the league all season, allowed multiple big plays to wide-open receivers downfield. The team has also announced that defensive coordinator Dan Quinn will remain with the team if he does not accept any head coaching positions during the off-season.

Despite earning two division titles and 42 regular season wins since 2020, the Cowboys only have one playoff victory in the McCarthy era to this point.

Cowboys linebacker Leighton Vander Esch is out for the season following a neck injury, which could also end his career.

According to Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, the team is taking a wait-and-see approach with Vander Esch’s recovery.

“We had just completely left it up to how he was evolving,” Jones told The Fan in Dallas. “But of course, it’s a very significant loss for us. He’s an integral part of that defense out there. We just wish him well. The nature of his potential injury here causes me to really think longer term and beyond what it means for next week or beyond what it means for next month relative to the team. It has everything to do with what’s in his best interest.”

Vander Esch was eligible to exit injured reserve status after an October 8 injury against the 49ers. In the five games Vander Esch has played, he has 35 tackles, one tackle for loss, two quarterback pressures and a fumble recovery.

He has a history of neck issues, missing seven out of the final nine games due to a neck injury as a rookie season in 2018. He also was absent due to a neck injury in 2021. He also dealt with neck injuries during his time at Boise State.

The Dallas Cowboys are hoping it does not have a big problem at kicker for the rest of the playoffs despite a big win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday Night Football.

Brett Maher, who has been nothing but reliable for the team for most of the season, missed an astounding four extra points in a game.

That broke the record for most in a playoff appearance and it was reportedly the highest number of failed attempts since 1932.

Luckily for the Cowboys, it did not cost them the game, as the team won comfortably by 17 points.

And at least for now, the organization is backing him publicly despite the chipshot misses.

Owner Jerry Jones said that team won’t be looking to add a kicker despite the performance.

However, should the Cowboys be concerned after missing all of those chip shots?

This will depend on the reason why he missed them.

If he suffered an injury – then the Cowboys could be in big trouble.

In games that are decided marginally – kickers can make a big difference – especially in the playoffs.

If it’s mentally related, which Jones seemed to indicate, then Maher might be able to rebound with a solid week of practice.

“This is a classic case of looking at what he’s done for this team and done on the field all year, not just last night,” he said.

“And, so, kicking is a technical thing. It has everything to do with the — just frankly mentally having it all together when you step up there. And, so, we’ll read this thing as the week goes along. I don’t want to get out over skis and get ahead of it.”

In the regular season, Maher successfully made 29 out of his 32 kicks – which is more than 90% efficiency.

Of those kicks, 15 were made for 40 yards or more.

If the Cowboys do decide to pursue a kicker – there likely aren’t any great options to sign at this point of the season.

So the team will hope that Monday night’s meltdown was a one-time freak thing and that he will return to his old self going forward.

The Cowboys will play the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. ET in the NFC divisional round of the playoffs.

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - FEBRUARY 27: Wide receiver Henry Ruggs III of Alabama runs the 40-yard dash during the NFL Scouting Combine at Lucas Oil Stadium on February 27, 2020 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

NFL executive vice president of football operations Troy Vincent compared the NFL Combine to a “slave auction” at a league meeting Wednesday, leading some NFL owners to criticize the administrator for making an outlandish comparison. Vincent argued that some of the characteristics of the combine resembled physical tests administered to determine the value of slaves.

“It’s a great opportunity for the young men, but there has to be some form of dignity and level of dignity and respect as they go through that process,” Vincent told reporters after the meeting. “That was the overall theme around our combine [discussion.]”

At least four NFL owners objected to Vincent’s assessment during the meeting. According to inside sources speaking to CBS Sports, Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank was reportedly the first to speak and express that he had been offended. Blank has been credited many times over the years for promoting diversity within his organization and the league.

After Blank, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones reportedly addressed the “privilege” of playing in the NFL and the opportunities that the combine provided. Jones recently came under fire after a photo was found depicting him as a 14-year-old in a group of white students barring black students from integrating his Arkansas high school. Jones claimed that he and his friends were there out of curiosity, not in an attempt to prevent the students from entering.

Pittsburgh Steelers owner Art Rooney II reportedly spoke next, arguing that teams required knowledge of players’ physical attributes before drafting them. Rooney also serves as the chairman of the NFL Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee.

Buffalo Bills owner Tom Pegula was reportedly the fourth owner to address Vincent’s comments. In a cryptic statement, Pegula reportedly said that he did not support weigh-ins at the combine but also went on to say that such processes are what viewers want to see. He also compared women’s tennis players wearing revealing outfits to players going through physical trials at the combine. Others in attendance at the meeting were confused by his comments, which effectively ended the conversation.

Appearing on a Thursday Night Football simulcast, LeBron James clarified his comments from last week, in which he criticized the media for not asking him about a recently unearthed photo of Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. James defended his words, arguing that he was standing up against individuals who are not often held accountable.

“The media is so quick to hold us athletes, especially black athletes, to hold us accountable,” James said. “We can’t make mistakes, they want to bring up everything. I wanted to hold the media accountable, the fact that they didn’t ask any one of us, I didn’t hear a question for any athlete, especially in the basketball world, about the situation.”

James’ comments came after a photo taken in 1957 was unearthed depicting a 14-year-old Jones standing in a group of white children blocking the path of a group of black children desegregating his high school in Arkansas.

James’ original comments last week concerned what he perceived to be a double standard between players like Kyrie Irving and Jones, as well as the media’s failure to address both issues equally. He was angry that the media did not ask him about the Jones photo after weeks of questions about the situation surrounding Irving.

“When I watch Kyrie talk and he says, ‘I know who I am, but I want to keep the same energy when we’re talking about my people and the things that we’ve been through,’ and that Jerry Jones photo is one of those moments that our people, black people, have been through in America,” James said at the time.

In response to James and the unearthing of the photo, Jones said that he and his friends were at the event out of curiosity, not as an act to prevent the black students’ entrance into the school. Jones has previously been criticized for his response to Cowboys players kneeling for the national anthem, as well as his failure to hire a black head coach for the team after decades as the owner.

In a valuation report of NFL franchises, the Dallas Cowboys have been named the most valuable franchise in all of sports at $7.64 billion. “America’s Team” leads a crowded field of 16 NFL teams worth more than $4 billion and edged out the New York Yankees in MLB by $600 million.

Which Is Most Valuable NFL Team?

Using league revenue data, market history, recent team sales, status and location, business outlet Sportico released the NFL valuation report, which concluded that every team in the league was worth well over $2 billion. The Cincinnati Bengals were deemed least valuable at $2.84 billion, putting the franchise ahead of all but five MLB teams and seven NBA teams. The report concluded that the NFL market is currently unmatched by any other sport in the world.

Though the NFL does not suffer from a lack of valuable franchises, the Cowboys’ valuation still towers above all others in the league. The report claimed that the Cowboys were worth nearly $2 billion more than the second most valuable team, the $5.91 billion Los Angeles Rams.

The richest teams in football do not depend on football anymore, as “real estate developments and businesses” serve as key financial resources for top teams. Since Jerry Jones bought the team for $150 million in 1989, the Cowboys have also enjoyed lucrative endorsement deals and merchandising in addition to its considerable real estate assets.

Would Jerry Jones Ever Sell Cowboys?

With such a lofty valuation, many might wonder if the Cowboys’ current owner would ever have any interest cashing in on his lucrative investment. Jones would quickly put those notions to rest himself, however.

In an interview with Peter King, Jones said that he valued his own team at $10 billion before emphatically denying his own offer.

“But let me make this very clear,” Jones said. “I’ll say it definitively. I will never do it. I will never sell the Cowboys. Ever.”

If you have $10 billion to spare (and, really, who doesn’t?) you may be able to purchase the Dallas Cowboys—but not on owner Jerry Jones’ watch.

The 79-year-old Jones, who bought the team in 1989 for $150 million, said in an interview he thinks that if he put the team up for sale the Cowboys could fetch “more than $10 billion.” However, we’ll never know.

“Let me make this very clear,” he said to NBC’s Peter King. “I’ll say it definitively. I will never do it. I will never sell the Cowboys. Ever.”

It seems like wishful thinking from the oil tycoon, as Forbes estimates the team’s value at $6.5 billion. Either value would break the record for the cost of a sports franchise—the Premier League’s Chelsea FC was recently sold for $5.22 billion.

The currently available Broncos are valued at $4.5 billion by Forbes, so who knows?

TAMPA, FL - NOVEMBER 15: Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones talks with fans during a game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium on November 15, 2015 in Tampa, Florida.

As it turns out, Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones has paid nearly $3 million to Alexandra Davis, the woman who claims she is his daughter, and her mother.

Jones’ close friend and Arkansas lawyer Don Jack said in a statement that “[o]n numerous occasions I have made payments on behalf of Mr. Jones to [Davis’ mother, Cynthia Spencer Davis] and Alex Davis.”

Davis, a 25-year-old congressional aide, filed a paternity suit against Jones on March 3; she says her mother met Jones met in 1995 when she worked for American Airlines in Arkansas. That same year, Jack said he struck an agreement to pay the mother $375,000 and provide “monthly payments for child support which ultimately totaled over $2 million.”

Jones has yet to acknowledge that Davis is his daughter. When asked why the Dallas Cowboys owner paid millions if the child was not his, a spokesperson declined to comment.

The payment agreement has paid out more than $1.3 million over the past 25 years, and two additional payments are due when Davis turns 26 and 28 years old.

Davis has asked the court to revoke the agreement—agreed to when she was 1 year old—and for Jones to be declared her dad. She claims she’s not seeking money and simply wants to be able to put his name on her birth certificate.

However, Jack said that at a meeting between the two parties at a Dallas restaurant years ago, they asked for $20 million to keep quiet.

“In that meeting, Alex read to me a personal letter she had drafted to Jerry Jones in which she expressed her dissatisfaction with what she had received and sought $20 million,” Jack said. “She stated that if that amount was paid, she would not bother Mr. Jones again and would keep their relationship confidential.”

Things get interesting here, as there is no proof of either the letter or a date of the dinner.

This story is far from over. Stay tuned.

TAMPA, FL - NOVEMBER 15: Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones talks with fans during a game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium on November 15, 2015 in Tampa, Florida.

Lawyers for the 25-year-old congressional aide suing Jerry Jones released a statement Thursday saying she wants a judge to toss out an agreement “that attempts to prohibit her from stating who her real father is.” They added, “she’s not out for fame or fortune.”

Alexandra Davis, a Washington D.C. native, filed suit March 3 against Jones, alleging the billionaire Cowboys owner is her biological father.

“Ms. Davis’ lawsuit does not seek the recovery of money,” wrote Davis’ lawyers, Andrew A. Bergman and Jay K. Gray, of Dallas. “Ms. Davis’ lawsuit seeks only to have a Court declare that she is not bound to an agreement entered into that attempts to prohibit her from stating who her real father is. Surely, anyone can understand this need of a child no matter what age to have the ability to say they have a father without the fear of reprisal.”

It adds that Davis “has lived her life fatherless and in secret and in fear that if she should tell anyone who her father was, she and her mother would lose financial support, or worse.”

The complaint alleges that when Davis’ mom agreed with Jones’ friend and lawyer Donald Jack to a $375,000 payment; the two have paid—and continue to pay—an undisclosed amount to Davis and her mother and have resulted in Davis “never having a legal father.”

“To add incredible insult to injury, Plaintiff has had to spend her entire life hiding and concealing who her real father is,” the statement says. “Defendant Jones’ only role in Plaintiff’s life to date other than to shun her, has been to coerce her from ever disclosing his identity.”

Lawyers for Davis, who now works as an aide to U.S. Rep. Ronny Jackson  (R-Texas), say the lawsuit only came about “after Ms. Davis’ numerous attempts to address this matter in private were ignored” by her alleged father and his attorneys.

TAMPA, FL - NOVEMBER 15: Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones talks with fans during a game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium on November 15, 2015 in Tampa, Florida.

Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones apologized after telling a radio host who claimed that Dallas had a “leadership void” to “shut up.” “Well, just shut up and let me answer,” Jones said while interrupting host Shan Shariff. “No [there’s not a leadership void].” After Shariff reframed the question, Jones responded, “You’re not asking me that. I gave you the answer. When I go into the locker room, there’s no leadership void in my eyes. Now that’s your answer. Let’s move on.”

The Cowboys are having the season from hell right now, so the terseness of Jones is understandable. “America’s Team” currently sits at 2-5 and just lost to division rival the Washington Football Team by 22 points.

Jones did eventually apologize to Shariff. “If I were a little abrupt there, then I really don’t want to have our day start that way. You’re too good of a man for that,” Jones said. “This certainly isn’t my most tactful time, you might say, with this thing, as we discuss these matters. I’m disappointed for our fans. I can’t tell you how disappointed I am. It was not the plan at all.”

This did give us a peek behind the curtain of how much the tension in Dallas has seemed to rise. It seems like a lost season for the Cowboys – and Jones appears to know it.
