The New England Patriots have a new face hitting headlines, head coach Bill Belichick‘s son, Steve Belichick. Social media picked up a clip from NESN on November 23 of an interview with the Patriots safeties and secondary coach. Why is this creating such a buzz? Because Steve’s mannerisms are identical to those of his father.

Bill is famous for his dry, monotone and short responses in interviews, looking nothing shy of disinterested and offering very little information when answering reporters’ questions. And Steve showed that exactly. A straight-faced, stoic looking Steve provided very little to reporters, keeping up the mysterious image of the Belichicks.

Steve Belichick went to Rutgers University in New Jersey, playing lacrosse, as well as football, serving as a long snapper. He is in his eighth season on the Patriots staff, currently serving his first season as the team’s safeties and secondary coach. For three years, he was solely the safeties coach, and had spent four years as a coaching assistant.

The Patriots defense has proved to be quite dominant this season, placing first in fewest points allowed and second in fewest yards allowed. With solid starters in linebackers Kyle Van Noy and Jamie Collins, cornerbacks Stephon Gilmore and Jason McCourty, and safeties Duron Harmon and Devin McCourty, the talent runs deep and requires the highest level of play to get past them.

The Patriots (10-2) are favored to win this coming Sunday as they host the Kansas City Chiefs (8-4), looking to continue their reign in the AFC East.

As for Bill and Steve Belichick, “like father, like son” has never rang more true.

New England Patriots legendary quarterback Tom Brady signed a two-year extension with his team on Sunday, according to Adam Schefter.

The contract extension contains a deal worth a total of $70 million. He will earn $23 million this season, then $30 million in 2020, with $32 million in 2021. The new contract deal is an $8 million boost to his original contract he had set for this upcoming season.

The 42-year-old continues to be one of the league’s most dominant quarterbacks, while being just the sixth-highest-paid quarterback for the NFL this season. This deal is saving his team $5.5 million in cap space for a suitable upgrade in other positions for the Patriots.

Brady is first overall in seasons with postseason appearances with 16. He is also first in wins in the postseason, with 30, and has won six Super Bowls and lost of them. He is first in postseason fourth-quarter comebacks with nine, and 13 game-winning drives. Brady is also first in postseason passing yards, with 11,179, and is first in postseason passing touchdowns with 73.

Yet, his teammates realize he’s indeed mortal. Patriots cornerback Jason McCourty said, “he’s no different than the men left and to the right of him,” according to the Washington Post.

As of right now, Brady has thrown 332 more touchdowns, and 35,000 more yards than any of the six QB’s that are being paid more than him.

Back in 2005 Brady said, “I guess I always feel there’s someone hunting me down, someone always right on my footsteps,” he said about his motivations, according to the Washington Post.

Brady and head coach Bill Belichick will be priming for another season where they believe they can win their seventh Super Bowl together.

“You know, it’s hard for me to imagine doing anything else in life,” he said before his contract extension, according to the Washington Post. He’s not done yet.

If you’ve ever watched the Patriots in the postseason, you’ve seen two key safeties throughout their second dynasty. And of course, you’ve seen the Pats in the playoffs. If not, you probably haven’t watched them at all.

Pats Safety Devin McCourty May Call It Quits

Those two safeties are Duron Harmon and Devin McCourty. Harmon, despite being an above average player, has always had a knack for batting down a pass at the end of a close game. And McCourty is such a skilled player that it seems that he’s in two places at once. But if you’ve thought that this year, you’re probably not wrong.

During the offseason, the Patriots acquired Devin’s twin brother, Jason, from the Cleveland Browns. Before that, he played for the Tennessee Titans. Now in his tenth NFL year, he’s playing in the playoffs for the first time. Devin, on the other hand, has never missed an AFC Conference game in his career.

But the feel-good story might not end well for fans. The brothers might call it quits after this season. Jason will hit the market again after Super Bowl LIII and Devin has one more year left on his contract. After five Super Bowl appearances and three All-Pro teams, it’s hard to imagine he has anything left to prove.

“I don’t know for sure, man. But I do look at it — if we can win this game, winning with my brother, I don’t know what else I could do that could top that,” McCourty said at the interview podium on Super Bowl media opening night while being questioned by Deion Sanders. “So I’m just trying to make sure I enjoy this season and enjoy these last couple days with these guys.”

Devin is an eight-time captain for the Patriots. If they win, this means there’s a good chance the team is without a crucial piece of their success as well as another solid secondary member in Jason. At last year’s Super Bowl, coach Bill Belichick heaped praise on Devin. “There’s not many that do more behind the scenes than Devin does,” he said. “He’s an outstanding player and an even better person and better teammate. I couldn’t be prouder to coach a player than Devin McCourty.”

The two will take the field on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. EST against the Los Angeles Rams.
