Last week, the Philadelphia Eagles and center Cam Jurgens signed a four-year, $68 million contract extension, making him one of the highest-paid centers in all of football.

Jurgens, 25, was entering the final year of his rookie deal. He no longer has to worry about missing his big payday.

Jurgens’ annual value on the contract is $17 million, the second highest among centers, just behind Kansas City Chiefs center Creed Humphrey. Jurgens’ contract has $39.4 million guaranteed.

Jurgens, who filled the shoes of one of the greatest offensive linemen in Eagles history, Jason Kelce, excelled in his first year as the starting center. He was named to the Pro Bowl and was a major part of the Eagles’ Super Bowl run.

“Congrats to the big man Beef Jurgy!!” Kelce posted on X. “@jurgyco is about to skyrocket. Most guaranteed money for a center. Big Extension, yuge! Happy for the big man, deserves every penny!”

Jurgens was drafted in the second round of the 2022 NFL draft. He began his career at right guard before moving to center following Kelce’s retirement.

The Eagles’ offensive line is considered one of the best in the NFL. Saquon Barkley ran for a career-high 2,005 yards and set the NFL record for most rushing yards in a season, including the playoffs.

With the Jurgens extension and recent extensions to Lane Johnson and Jordan Mailata, the Eagles are in a position to be dominant up front for years to come.

On Monday, Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce officially announced his retirement from the NFL after 13 seasons. The announcement came in an emotional press conference that saw Kelce give extra thanks to his team and training staff, his wife Kylie, and his brother Travis Kelce. With seven Pro Bowl selections, six All-Pro teams and a key piece in winning Super Bowl LII, he is all but guaranteed a spot in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

“Stepping on the field was the most alive and free I had ever felt. There was a visceral feeling with football, unlike any sport. The hairs on my arms would stand up. I could hit somebody, run around like a crazed lunatic and then get told, ‘Good job.’ I love football,” Kelce said in his press conference. “It has always been a goal of mine to play my whole career in one city. I couldn’t have dreamt a better one if I tried.”

As his career comes to an end, Kelce finishes as the fifth center in NFL history with at least six All-Pro selections. He is also the only center since the 1970 merger that has won a Super Bowl and nominated to the All-Pro six times, despite being a sixth-round pick in the 2011 Draft.

Shortly after his start in Philadelphia, Kelce was thrown into a starting position, one that he held for the remainder of his career. Though dealing with multiple injuries throughout his time leading the team’s offensive line, Kelce set a franchise record of 156 straight regular season starts.

“Jason gave of himself for others, played through injuries, and never wavered through all the ups and downs of our seasons and his own personal career,” Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie said in a statement. “He is a man of many talents – he could chug beers with fans at a tailgate, he could sing in a Christmas album and raise millions for charity, or he could talk X’s and O’s all day with coaches and teammates. Then after all that, he could do things out on the football field that no other offensive linemen are capable of doing.”

Though one of the best players in his position in recent years, perhaps one of Kelce’s most memorable moments came off the field. During the Eagles’ Super Bowl Parade in 2018, Kelce, dressed in the city’s famous Mummers outfit, gave a fierce speech celebrating the win. Though already a key piece of the team, Kelce’s outgoing personality and dedication to the fanbase are what cemented him as a legend in Philadelphia.

“I won’t forget the parade and what it meant to the city of Philadelphia,” Kelce said Monday. “The joy in our community and the closure it gave so many. The stories from fans that had been waiting generations for that moment fulfilled that triumph to another level…. That wasn’t my speech. It was Philadelphia’s.”

As his playing career comes to an end, it is still safe to say that Kelce will still be around football and the media world. His podcast with his brother, New Heights, continues to soar in popularity and the duo will most likely continue releasing episodes even with Kelce retired. Rumors have also circulated about him potentially joining one of the NFL broadcasting crews, but no deal has yet been made. Regardless of his future, Kelce will leave the game as one of the most accomplished offensive linemen in history, and will forever be a hero in Philadelphia.

KANSAS CITY, MO - DECEMBER 25: Tight end Travis Kelce #87 of the Kansas City Chiefs enters the field during player introductions prior to the game against the Denver Broncos at Arrowhead Stadium on December 25, 2016 in Kansas City, Missouri.

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce said on the New Heights podcast this week that he regretted an altercation with head coach Andy Reid at the Super Bowl Sunday.

Kelce’s brother, Jason Kelce, began the conversation by calling him out, claiming that he had crossed a line.

Late in the first half, Kelce was seen yelling at Reid on the sidelines after the coach temporarily removed him from the game. The dispute escalated when the tight end made contact with his coach, knocking him off balance.

“I can’t get that fired up to the point where I’m bumping coach and it’s getting him off balance and stuff,” Kelce said. “When he stumbled I was like, ‘Oh s—‘ in my head.”

Despite a slow start, the Chiefs erased a 10-point deficit to defeat the San Francisco 49ers in overtime 25-22. Earlier in the week, Reid addressed the incident with Kelce and largely dismissed it. It is more than likely that the pair’s most recent championship victory quickly resolved any issues they might have had after their first-half altercation.

“He keeps me young,” Reid said. “He tested that hip out. He caught me off balance — normally, I’d give him a little bit, but I didn’t have any feet under me.”

Kelce has been a Chief since 2013, playing under Reid for the entirety of his career. The pair have now won three Super Bowls together, forging one of the closest coach-player bonds in the league.

“I couldn’t be more proud of being his product on the field and I couldn’t be more proud of where we’ve come since I got here in 2013,” Kelce went on to say during his apology. “I just love playing for the guy. Unfortunately, sometimes my passion comes out where it looks like it’s negativity, but I’m grateful that he knows that it’s all because I want to win this thing with him, more than anything.”

Though both have been rumored to be considering retirement in the near future, Kelce and Reid are both currently slated to return to the NFL for the 2024 season.

Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce addressed rumors about his retirement on his podcast New Heights with his brother and Kansas City Chiefs tight end, Travis Kelce.

In the episode, Kelce, a 13-year veteran and Super Bowl winner with the Eagles, said that he wishes to retire on his own terms and not make a difficult decision after their 32-9 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers over Wild Card Weekend.

“I just don’t think you’re in a position after a game like that to really make that decision. I just don’t. There’s too much emotion in the moment, there’s too much going down in the moment, to really fully grasp that decision,” Kelce said. “I’m not trying to be dramatic and continue to draw this thing out, I’m really not.”

After the Eagles loss, a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter stated that Jason told his teammates that he was ending his career on the field. But on his podcast, Jason said that his postgame interactions with his teammates were regarding his love for them, rather than announcing his retirement.

“I don’t think that it would be respectful or even accurate to be able to do that right after a game like that…. But, in the future, there will be something said, I guess,” he said.

Before the 2023 season Kelce signed a one year deal in hopes to return to the Super Bowl after their 38-35 championship loss to the Kansas City Chiefs the year prior.

Coming out of the University of Cincinnati in 2011, Kelce has had one of the most prolific careers for an offensive lineman in NFL history. In his 13 seasons, Kelce has received six first-team All-Pro honors, a feat only accomplished by four other centers in football, all of whom have made the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

A high point of Kelce’s career also came when the Eagles won Super Bowl LII in the 2016 season. Most famously, after the win Kelce gave a raucous speech during their championship parade celebration, aiding in his persona as one of the most well-liked and supported athletes in Philadelphia and the NFL.

“It’s just something that I think, when it’s time to officially announce what’s happening in the future, it’ll be done at in a way that’s definitive and pays respect to a lot of people and individuals that have meant a lot to me and what has led to the career I’ve had,” he said.

PHILADELPHIA, PA - JPHILADELPHIA, PA - JANUARY 03: Jalen Hurts #2 of the Philadelphia Eagles reacts against the Washington Football Team at Lincoln Financial Field on January 3, 2021 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Eight Philadelphia Eagles players have been invited to the 2022 Pro Bowl, a league-leading number this season for the 13-1 NFC powerhouse. Six of them have been named as starters at their respective positions, more than the number invited by all but three other teams in the NFL.

In the NFL’s roster announcement Wednesday, the league revealed that quarterback Jalen Hurts, wide receiver A.J. Brown, tackle Lane Johnson, guard Landon Dickerson, center Jason Kelce and cornerback Darius Slay would all start for the NFC in the Pro Bowl. Running back Miles Sanders and outside linebacker Haason Reddick were also named as reserves.

“I’m blessed. I still have a lot more to do. It feels great to have people recognize my talent and the work I’ve done this year, but I and we still have a lot more work to do,” Brown said after the announcement.

Behind the Eagles’ eight players in this year’s game, only the Kansas City Chiefs have seven, including quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce. The Ravens and 49ers each had six players selected while the Vikings had five.

Only two teams — the Chicago Bears and Jacksonville Jaguars — did not receive a single invite. Many consider Bears quarterback Justin Fields to be one of the biggest snubs in 2022, though few have argued that he should have replaced Hurts.

As the league’s top team, the Eagles’ eight Pro Bowl selections make sense, as the team has proven superior on both sides of the ball during the regular season. Hurts and Brown have quickly become one of the deadliest duos in the league in less than one full season behind one of the league’s stoutest offensive lines. Meanwhile, defensive contributors like Slay and Reddick have helped hold Philadelphia’s opponents to just 19.1 points per game in 2022, sixth best in the NFL.

“It’s cool,” Kelce said. “Hopefully, we’re busier at that time of the year than having any of us go to the Pro Bowl.”

It’s hard to be in two places at once—especially if you have two sons both playing in the NFL postseason on the same day. Donna Kelce made it happen, though.

Kelce, the mother (of the year?) of Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and Eagles center Jason Kelce, flew from Tampa to Kansas City on Sunday to catch both of her sons in action during Super Wild Card weekend.

She won’t have to pick rooting allegiances for a hypothetical Super Bowl matchup, as Jason’s Eagles fell to the Buccaneers, 31-15. However, she did get to see Travis and the Chiefs beat the Steelers, 42-21.

“We’ll go first to Donna Kelce,” a Chiefs staffer said during Sunday’s press conference, which resulted with Travis replying, “I’m sorry, what?”

“Yes, it’s your mom,” Donna said. “I actually made it. At a disappointing Tampa game, this was an elation to see you get a touchdown in a playoff game. Oh my gosh, how good did that feel? How good did that feel after all these years?”

Travis recorded his first career passing touchdown to receiver Byron Pringle in the fourth quarter.

“I used to tell my mom when I was five years old, that I was going to eventually throw a touchdown in the National Football League, I finally got it done,” Travis said. “It only took me nine years. That’s a good question though, mom.”

In addition to the TD throw, Kelce also caught one in the win.

The Kelce matriarch watched the game from a stadium suite with her KC player son’s longtime girlfriend, Kayla Nicole.

“Mama Kelce made it y’all,” Nicole posted Sunday night to Instagram.

The Chiefs are set to host the Bills next weekend in the AFC Divisional Round playoffs. There’s no word as to whether Donna will be in attendance at Arrowhead.
