NFL receiver Jarvis Landry was not on the roster for the 2023 season, but that doesn’t mean he is ready to finish his career. Previously, the five-time Pro Bowler spent four seasons each with the Miami Dolphins and Cleveland Browns. He did suit up for the New Orleans Saints in 2022 but played only nine games due to injury and was released at the end of the season. Despite being away from the game for a year, Landry is now expected to participate in the Jacksonville Jaguars rookie off-season minicamp.

His time at the minicamp will set expectations for the Jaguars and if they want to sign him to a deal and commit to him financially. Though nothing is guaranteed, Landry has a proven track record would be an excellent use for a Jacksonville team with a light receiver room. They signed Gabe Davis over the offseason, selected LSU’s Brian Thomas Jr. in the most recent draft, and have Devin Duvernay, Christian Kirk and Zay Jones under contract. Landry’s career numbers dwarf the numbers of the other receivers currently on the roster and could potentially provide a big target for quarterback Trevor Lawrence next year.

Landry’s last Pro Bowl season came in 2019 with the Browns, finishing the year with 83 catches for 1,174 yards and six touchdowns. He had a successful stint in Cleveland, but the team eventually prioritized receiver Amari Cooper over Landry, resulting in his one year with the Saints and subsequent season sitting out. In 132 career games, Landry has 713 receptions for 7,870 yards and 38 touchdowns. From 2014 to 2021, Landry was fourth in the NFL in receptions and ninth in total receiving yards.

The 31-year-old Landry did have a workout with the Indianapolis Colts in December 2023, but it did not lead to a spot on the roster. Now, he is trying again with the Jaguars, and even if it doesn’t lead to a contract, it will at least show other teams he is still willing to compete.

Odell Beckham Jr. is back ladies and gentlemen!

The electric wide receiver just made his season debut on Sunday against the Chicago Bears after being listed on the Cleveland Browns injury report for the past 11 months.

Beckham was targeted nine times and had five receptions for 77 yards, as well as a 10-yard, run, good for a first down.

OBJ tore his ACL back on October 25 in an attempt to tackle Bengals cornerback Darius Phillips after an interception.

“The first time in a very long time, a lot of emotions, a lot of things running through you as you’re back out in the stadium,” he told the Akron Beacon Journal.

However, the three-time Pro Bowler conceded that he isn’t quite back to his peak form.

“It’s still the dream to be in the NFL and play in this game, so it was a lot to take in today. It just felt like I could never get my legs going. It’s just exhausting. But we came out with a W, and that’s all that matters.”

On the bright side, the ACL surgery and rehabilitation process have been successful and his season debut against the Bears certainly marks a step in the right direction.

The Browns will desperately need Beckham to stay healthy and perform moving forward, as wide receiver Jarvis Landry will remain on the sidelines for several games after suffering a knee injury.

The race for the AFC will be super interesting this year. For the first time in two seasons, the Kansas City Chiefs feel vulnerable, especially after their 31-9 drubbing by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Super Bowl. Star tight end Travis Kelce acknowledges that teams like the Cleveland Browns are coming for them. “They’re definitely a contender, without a doubt. It’s definitely there,” he said. “Baker [Mayfield] and the gang have upped the ante, made this team an unbelievable team and a team you have to prepare for and take seriously. I think that moving forward without a doubt, I can see a lot more playoff games between us, and I’ll just take it one day at a time and hope for it. I think the Browns and Chiefs are definitely neck and neck.”

The Browns have certainly built a complete roster entering this season. With needs in the secondary, and at linebacker, as well as defensive line, the Browns managed to improve all three units, and will certainly have a better defense than the one that allowed the 21st-most points in the league. At safety and corner, the Browns added John Johnson III and Troy Hill from the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams had the best pass defense in the NFL last year, so to steal two players from them is surely a benefit.

The Browns also drafted highly touted rookie Greg Newsome II and Jeremiah Owusu- Koramoah, two players who seem poised to help cover the combination of Kelce and Tyreek Hill.

This team also gets Odell Beckham Jr. back on offense. The Browns are positioned to do massive things this year. When asked about the team’s Super Bowl aspirations this year, wide receiver Jarvis Landry expressed confidence. “Why not? It’s something that people always say you should not talk about, but nobody trains or nobody does what they do to not be a champion,” he said. “So that’s the standard. So why not talk about it? It’s real. It’s sick to be humble about what everybody is actually chasing.”

AFC North: The Browns will be fighting in a three-way battle with two other contending teams within the division. The Steelers and Ravens will give the Browns some trouble if they want to win this season’s division title. The Browns will struggle against the revamped Ravens offense led by Lamar Jackson. In regards to the Steelers, Cleveland split last year’s regular-season series, but Cleveland won when it mattered in the postseason. Pittsburgh continues to be led by an aging quarterback in Ben Roethlisberger, and the Browns defense seemed to finally have his number in the 2020 NFL Playoffs. With Odell Beckham Jr. returning from a season-ending injury, the Browns’ offense could be as explosive as ever this season with Baker Mayfield at the helm, Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt in the backfield, and Beckham, Jarvis Landry and Rashard Higgins catching passes. Between the team’s strong defense and their revamped offense, the Browns are not to be taken lightly in 2021.

Matchups: Cleveland will open its season with a tough game against Patrick Mahomes and the reigning AFC Champion Kansas City Chiefs. Another tough game for Cleveland will be against the Packers, but that game will depend on whether Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers gets his trade from the team or not. The Ravens will be difficult considering they easily beat the Browns both times last season. Cleveland also has some favorable matchups such as their games against the Lions, Bengals, Broncos and Patriots.

Overall: The Browns will not have much trouble except for their inter-division rivals in the Ravens and Steelers. Their Chiefs and Packers game may be out of reach for the Browns, but the rest of their schedule will be much easier.

Prediction: The Browns will finish 12-5, second in their division. They will qualify for the playoffs for the second consecutive season.

Since 2001, HBO’s documentary series Hard Knocks has taken us inside the training camps of 12 different NFL teams, with each season featuring providing first-hand insight into a different franchise and its players and coaches, both on and off the field. On Thursday, HBO announced that the Cleveland Browns will be the subject of the show’s 13th season, and it’s sure to be a pretty wild one.

SLIDESHOW: SPORTS FIGURES WHO DIED IN 2017

While Hard Knocks has shown us the immense amount of tension that exists within NFL organizations, it’s hard to imagine that any of them were more desperate for success than the Browns. Over the last two seasons, Cleveland has garnered a historically bad 1-31 record, with their no-win 2017 season arguably being the worst single-season performance by any team in the Super Bowl era. Not only were they constantly losing, but they looked absolutely hideous in doing so. Rookie quarterback DeShone Kizer was dreadful over the 15 games in which he played, completing 53.6% of his passes for 2,894 yards, 11 touchdowns, and a whopping 22 interceptions. That’s not to say that the Browns’ lack of any kind of success rests solely on Kizer’s shoulders, as really every aspect of their team save for their run defense was among the league’s worst. The good news is that the Browns can really only go up from there, and they’ve made some significant improvements this offseason in order to do so, including the signings of quarterback Tyrod Taylor and wide receiver Jarvis Landry.

However, the biggest story of the Browns offseason has to be their decision to take Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield with the first overall pick of the 2018 NFL draft. With such a strong incoming quarterback class featuring college standouts like Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen, and Josh Allen, Mayfield was easily the most controversial of the bunch. While his on-the-field performance during his college career was great enough to garner a Heisman Trophy win, Mayfield has had several off the field issues, including having been arrested while drunk in public. He’s also undeniably cocky and style of play may not transition well from college to the pros, which makes critics worried he could very well become Johnny Manziel 2.0. Thanks to all this, it’s fairly safe to assume that Mayfield will be one of the key focuses of Hard Knocks this year.

Mayfield aside, we’ve never seen a season of Hard Knocks like this one is looking to be. No featured team has ever been at a point lower than the Browns are right now, so we’re bound to see gain some really interesting perspectives on what the inner-workings of such a notoriously bad franchise, what goes on that causes them to be so horrible year in and year out, and what they plan on doing to improve.

Hard Knocks featuring the Cleveland Browns is set to premiere on HBO on August 7, 2018.

The Miami Dolphins have used their non-exclusive franchise tag on wide receiver Jarvis Landry.

Jarvis Landry franchise tag news

The 25-year-old star would thus receive around $16 million next season if both sides don’t agree on a long-term contract. He made less than $1 million last season, so this would be a huge boost for Landry pay-wise.

Should Miami opt not to match an offer sheet for Landry, they would be due two first-round draft picks from the wideout’s new team.

Landry led the NFL with 112 receptions last season. He also had 987 receiving yards and nine touchdown catches. He has been selected to the Pro Bowl for three straight seasons.

Landry was ejected in the Dolphins’ season finale against the Buffalo Bills after he started a fourth-quarter brawl. Coach Adam Gase called the incident “embarrassing.”

The youngster finished both the 2015 and 2016 seasons with more than 1,000 receiving yards: he recorded 1,157 yards and 1,136 yards, respectively.

Only Pittsburgh’s Antonio Brown (471) and Atlanta’s Julio Jones (411) have more receptions than Landry’s 400 since he debuted in the NFL in 2014. Those 400 catches are also the most for any player through his first four seasons in the league.

The Dolphins offered Landry a new contract in early December, and Landry’s agent made a counter-offer in mid-December.

Landry told the Miami Herald in December that he would be fine with either a long-term contract or the franchise tag.

“I displayed I was a team guy,” Landry said in January about negotiations. “I understand not going to OTAs and training camp would raise eyebrows. My agent and I talked about being a leader and setting a good example, so I silenced all those things by going to OTAs and training camp, by putting the team first and being a team guy. I feel like in the NFL, they preach loyalty and family and they have none for you. As a player, you see it’s not a family during negotiations, how it becomes them versus me or me versus them. That’s part of the NFL I believe the fans don’t see.”

Nevertheless, a source said remaining with the Dolphins is appealing to Landry.

The Pro Bowl Skills Showdown contains many different types of competitions designed to test NFL players’ abilities.

Jarvis Landry Beats Out Odell Beckham Jr., Alex Smith In Pro Bowl Skills Great Hands Challenge

One such entertaining competition is the Great Hands challenge, where drones drop footballs from different heights and distances up to 100 feet in the air. For a moment, it seemed Odell Beckham Jr. was going to win the contest after recording a great time.

However, the New York Giants wideout’s former LSU teammate, Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jarvis Landrybeat his time by just 0.2 seconds.

Landry was evidently happy and celebrated by spiking the football on the field, but was blind-sided by Beckham, who rushed in to tackle him jokingly. Landry also beat out Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith.

Watch the highlights of the challenge here:

Beckham hasn’t spoken out much since the Giants’ loss to the Green Bay Packers in the NFC wild-card round game nearly three weeks ago, but he did recently explain why he has remained silent. It’s for an unsurprising reason almost any other major athlete would stay quiet: He doesn’t take losing well, at football or anything else for that matter.

“I hate losing,” Beckham told ESPN on Thursday after the NFC’s Pro Bowl practice regarding his team’s 38-13 playoff loss. “Whether it’s marbles, spades, blackjack, whatever it is.”

Beckham had a pair of dropped passes in the first quarter against Green Bay and recorded just 28 receiving yards– the second-fewest of his career– and was visibly frustrated after the game.

“You learn from it, you grow, you move on,” Beckham told ESPN. “That’s life. Life stuff happens. You get knocked down and you get back up. That’s just always been my mentality. I’m not really fazed by anything. It’s in the past. There’s nothing I can really do about it now.”

In his three seasons in the NFL, Beckham has gained a reputation as a hot-tempered player prone to starting arguments with opponents and officials. He also punched a hole in a wall outside the visitor’s locker room at Lambeau Field following the Giants’ last defeat, sources told ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio, who also saw Beckham banging his head against a door. Beckham hasn’t admitted to or discussed either incident.

During Pro Bowl week, Beckham has been one of the biggest attractions among fans, especially young children, who have eagerly requested autographs.

He has also been relying on Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant for advice, and has returned the favor for his counterpart, who is four years older than him.

“I think we do the same for each other,” Beckham said. “We’re always giving advice. I could probably look back in my texts and there were times when stuff’s going down and I’ll be like, ‘Let’s try and do this and be better at this.’ We’re always a work in progress.

“As you get older, you grow and mature and that should never stop. As soon as you stop growing, you’re done living. I’ll always be growing, forever learning, forever taking in advice from people I deeply respect.”

Former LSU Tigers wide receivers Odell Beckham Jrand Jarvis Landry have been dominant NFL offensive stars since the moment they joined the NFL in 2014.

Ex-LSU Stars Odell Beckham Jr., Jarvis Landry Set Reception Record

Now, both wideouts have just made history by setting a reception record together.

The pair boasts 288 catches apiece, tying each other for the record for most receptions in the NFL in a player’s first three seasons.

In addition to these 288 catches, the duo also currently holds a combined total of over 7,000 yards accompanied by 48 touchdown receptions.

Beckham’s statistics are even more impressive when you account for the fact that he missed multiple games in his career due to suspension and injury. The New York Giants No.12overall pick of 2014 has 4,122 yards and 35 touchdown receptions. The youngster has even made a few impressive one-handed catches in both practices and games.

Of course, Beckham, 24, has also made a name for himself in the NFL as a hot-tempered player who is prone to getting into arguments with both opponents and officials, behavior that has cost him penalties and fines.

Beckham and Landry, also 24, are currently tied for 17th in career receptions in a player’s first four seasons, trailing only Anquan Boldin by 54 receptions.

When asked about the Giants receivers partying in Miami this week, Beckham said he was more focused on the upcoming game against the Green Bay Packers.
