The 27-year-old guard has also reportedly earned a $20 million signing bonus. Martin, a first-round draft pick by the Cowboys in 2014, has played in four consecutive Pro Bowls and is also a two-time first-team All-Pro. With his new deal — which will pay him $14 million a year on average — Martin becomes the second-highest-paid offensive lineman after tackle Nate Solder of the New York Giants.

Jacksonville Jaguars guard Andrew Norwell previously held the NFL record for the highest payday for that position. Norwell inked a five-year, $66.5 million contract in March during the period of free agency.

The 6-foot-4, 315-pound Martin had one year remaining on his current deal.

The Cowboys are also mulling whether or not to extend defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence, who posted a career-best 14.5 sacks last season. According to ESPN, the franchise must decide by July 16 if they want to re-sign him.

Dallas ranked ninth in the NFL defensively in 2017, having allowed an average of 18.6 points per game.

Boston Celtics legend Jo Jo White, a two-time NBA champion and Finals MVP, died Tuesday at age 71.

Jo Jo White Death News

The former guard’s daughter Meka White Morris revealed the cause of death.

“My dad died from complications (pneumonia) from dementia that was brought on by the removal of a benign brain tumor in May 2010,” Morris told The Undefeated.

White, a seven-time All-Star, averaged 17.2 points, 4.9 assists and 4.0 rebounds over 12 NBA seasons. He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2015.

“We are terribly saddened by the passing of the great Jo Jo White,” the Celtics said in a statement announcing White’s passing. “He was a champion and a gentleman; supremely talented and brilliant on the court, and endlessly gracious off of it. Jo Jo was a key member of two championship teams, an NBA Finals MVP, a gold medal-winning Olympian, and a Hall of Famer. His contributions to the team’s championship legacy may have only been surpassed by the deep and lasting impact that he had in the community. The thoughts and sympathies of the entire Celtics organization are with the White family.”

Throughout his ten years in Boston, White helped lead the Celtics to two NBA championships in the 1970s (1974, 1976). He won Finals MVP honors in 1976. He was known for his quick movement, his unstoppable jump shot, and his fast breaks.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of an incredible husband and father,” White’s family said in a statement. “He was a Hall Of Fame basketball player but an even better man. We sincerely appreciate all of the love and continued prayers, but we ask for privacy as we spend time as a family reflecting and celebrating his life.”

White’s No. 10 jersey was retired by the Celtics in 1982. He also served as the team’s director of specials projects after a 12-year career that also included brief stints with the Golden State Warriors and then-Kansas City Kings. The 1969 ninth overall NBA draft pick out of Kansas retired in 1981 and returned to the Jayhawks as an assistant coach from 1982-83.

As a player at Kansas, the 6-foot-3 White was a two-time All-American and was the team’s MVP for three straight seasons.

Former Celtics guard Rajon Rondo  whose New Orleans Pelicans were in town to play the Celtics on Tuesday night — said White was one of the Celtics legends who made him feel most welcome during his time with the team.

“I knew [White] pretty well. He was probably one of my biggest supporters from day one since I got here,” Rondo said after his team’s 116-113 win. “He always supported me. He always gave me great advice and his family, his wife, was very kind to me as well. I send my condolences to the White family.”

White underwent life-threatening surgery to remove a brain tumor in 2010. After being inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2015, he delivered a touching speech.

The sharpshooter remains tenth on the Celtics’ all-time scoring list and holds the team record with 488 consecutive games played.

White also won a gold medal with the USA Olympic basketball team at the 1968 Games in Mexico City.

Off the court, White was a sharp dresser and was regarded as an example of elegance. He is survived by his wife Deborah, whom he met in 1980, and their six children, whose names were not immediately made available.

Ex-Kansas Guard Frank Mason III asked weird question at NBA Draft Combine

Prospective professional basketball players have been asked all sorts of quirky questions at the combine over the years: whether they slow down or speed up at a yellow light, if they know how many pennies are in a million dollars, and many more.

This question, however, likely takes the cake for one of the top-three most absurd ones. It even borders on inappropriate.

Mason was unsurprisingly floored by the question, and gave a very simple response: that he would like to kick the bucket in his sleep, without suffering any kind of pain, and surrounded by his family.

Sounds like a very normal and genuine answer from a seemingly healthy 23-year-old who has no reason to be thinking about death.

Former Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Austen Lane claims he was asked an even more frightening death-related question at the 2010 NFL Draft combine:

We can only wonder if next year’s NBA draft combine will see players asked even crazier questions.

Brandon Roy, a former NBA All-Star guard, was injured in a shooting in Los Angeles over the weekend, although several reports claim he is expected to make a full recovery.

Ex-Blazers Guard Brandon Roy Expected to Fully recover from Los Angeles Shooting Injuries

The 32-year-old, who played for the Portland Trail Blazers from 2006 to 2011, was allegedly an innocent bystander when gunshots, believed to come from a local gang, went off near his grandmother’s home.

USA TODAY’s Sam Amick confirmed the news, citing a source who stated “someone opened fire randomly” and that Roy , who is a head basketball coach at Seattle’s Nathan Hale High School, took bullets to the leg while protecting children.

Seattle’s KING 5 television news station reported that Roy has returned to Washington, his home state, after being treated in Los Angeles and that the guard is expected to make a full recovery.

The Blazers released a statement regarding the shooting on Tuesday night:

“Like many others, we’re just learning of the injury suffered by former Trail Blazers player Brandon Roy in a shooting over the weekend in California,” the statement read. “According to those reports, Brandon was wounded as a bystander, but is expected to recover. Our thoughts and prayers are with Brandon and his family during this time.”

The former shooting guard was drafted by the Minnesota Timberwolves as the sixth overall pick in 2006 out of Washington and immediately traded to the Blazers, with whom he made three All-Star appearances in his first five seasons in the NBA before a series of knee injuries hampered his career and he took a break. Roy then made a comeback, playing five games in one season with the Timberwolves (2012-2013), and retired at age 28 after being released by the team.

Roy took over Nathan Hale’s boy’s basketball program in the fall of 2016. Hale won a Washington state title and the nation’s top team ranking, while Roy was named Naismith National High School Coach of the Year after leading the team to a perfect record (29-0) during the regular season.

Ex-Saints Guard Jahri Evans Signs with Packers

Evans, 33, has played with the Saints for 11 years, and started all 16 games for the team last season. He is a six-time Pro Bowler and four-time first-team All Pro.

Aaron Rodgers stated last week that the Packers did not need to select a starter from Thursday’s draft to replace Lang, who left in free agency to join the Lions on March 12. The quarterback said he remained confident that one of three defensemen, Don Barclay, Kyle Murphy and Lucas Patrick, could potentially serve as a competent replacement.

“I don’t know that we need a guy in the draft. I really don’t,” Rodgers said. “I like the guys that we have, and I think there’s going to be a great competition between those guys.”

Evans briefly left New Orleans last year to sign with the Seattle Seahawks, who released him before the regular-season opener. The guard then re-signed with the Saints on a one-year deal in September.

Last season, Evans earned $1 million, although at one point he was the NFL’s highest-paid guard thanks to a seven-year, $56.7 million deal he signed in 2010.

The guard missed five games in 2015 after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery. Those five contests, in addition to two games in 2013, are the only games Evans has missed in his 11-year career.

The terms of Evans’ contract have not yet been released.

Pistons’ Kentavious Caldwell-Pope Arrested For DUI

The 24-year-old was pulled over for 45 mph— 20 miles over the speed limit — and registered a blood alcohol level of 0.08, which is the legal limit.

An officer smelled alcohol and put Caldwell-Pope through sobriety tests, which indicated impairment. The guard was cited for operating while intoxicated and released. No court date has been set for his arraignment. His arrest came hours after the Pistons’ 97-96 loss to the Miami Heat on Tuesday night. Caldwell-Pope played in Thursday night’s 90-89 win over the Brooklyn Nets, finishing with 12 points.

The Pistons have stated they are aware of the incident.

Caldwell-Pope, who is in his fourth season and will become a restricted free agent this summer, could face discipline by the NBA for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. Since there are only six games remaining this season, any punishment he would receive would be handed down next season.

Caldwell-Pope is averaging 14.1 points and 3.2 rebounds per game this season.

Pistons assistant coach Tim Hardaway was suspended three games at the beginning of this season for a drunken-driving arrest last April.

The all-white pair of sneakers is personalized with a brand new “Swaggy P” logo patch on the tongues.

Young averaged 7.3 points last season, and found himself getting DNP-CDs under former Lakers coach Byron Scott.

The 31-year-old also scored 14 points on 5-for-8 shooting in a preseason game against the Denver Nuggets on Sunday. After a report in August that the Lakers would either trade Young or buy him out, it now seems as if his ability to work the floor could earn him a spot in new coach Luke Walton’s rotation.

Young unveiled his sneakers at a Nice Kicks event in LA on Saturday.

Former Clemson Tigers and Butler High School guard Demontez Stitt was found dead at his home in Charlotte, North Carolina, Tuesday night. He was 27.

Former Clemson Basketball Star Demontez Stitt, Dead At 27, Remembered

Lead investigator Eric Wheeler in the Mecklenburg County Medical Examiner’s Office said Wednesday there was not trauma found on the body of Stitt and that foul play is not suspected.

Cause of death, friends told the Charlotte Observer, is believed to be a sudden heart attack. The Associated Press reported that “Stitt reportedly suffered a cardiac issue.”

“I found out about it (Tuesday) night,” former Butler High boys basketball coach Kurt Wessler said, “and I spent the next 16 hours going from being completely devastated and in tears. … my family’s in tears. All four of us loved him. He was such a charismatic person; kind, beautiful, outstanding. There wasn’t a color code to him. There wasn’t a gender code. It was just you were you and he was him, and let’s go do something.”

Wessler received a text on his phone from Stitt just last week. Stitt wanted Wessler to work him out. They met at a gym that was too full to practice in but spent 30 minutes talking about basketball, life and the future.

Wessler also said many of Stitt’s former high school teachers have contacted him since hearing the news.

And they are beside themselves,” the coach said. “He was a good student, but he was a phenomenal person. He lit up a room when he came in.”

Many of Stitt’s former teammates and friends at Butler took to Twitter to mourn his loss, as did the school itself.

Former Butler girls’ basketball star Cierra Burdick, who recently lost her coach at Tennessee, Pat Summitt, wrote: “I don’t understand why, but the Heaven Hoops team just keeps getting better and better … Heart is heavy.”

Former Butler football All-American and Stanford Univerity standout Peter Kalambayi wrote: “RIP Demontez Stitt … Best hooper to come out of BHS. Always on his job. Showed us we could make it.”

At Butler High, Stitt averaged 17.2 points, 5.1 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.5 steals for his career. He played with Clemson from 2007-2011 and is the only Tiger in program history to start on four straight NCAA Tournament teams. He averaged 14.5 points and 4.3 rebounds as a senior in 2010-11.

Clemson coach Brad Brownell said Stitt was a pleasure to coach, a player with a “big smile and competitive spirit.”

Former Clemson running back C. J. Spiller also reflected on his friendship with Stitt.

Stitt had been playing professionally in Europe– most recently in Turkey. He averaged 19.0 points and 5.1 assists for Orkide Gediz Univeristesi this past season.

Wessler said words cannot describe how much Stitt will be missed.

“For a high school coach to be getting constant calls and texts about a player he coached nine years ago speaks to the type of person he was and the type impact he had,” Wessler said. “I’m a prayerful person and I’ve been talking to God about this a lot.”

Wessler’s voice then cracked.

“I told him, he’s getting a really great point guard, and I’m going to miss him an awful lot.”

Dallas Cowboys guard Ronald Leary has requested a trade, NFL Media analyst Gil Brandt reported Tuesday via a source familiar with the situation.

Cowboys Guard Ronald Leary Requests Trade

After starting in the 2013 and 2014 seasons (31 games in total), Leary, 27, was replaced by rookie La’el Collins in October of last season, during which he only started four games. Since he doesn’t have experience at center, he was deemed a healthy scratch for the rest of the season. Collins signed a fully-guaranteed contract as an undrafted rookie.

Leary, an undrafted player who has been with the Cowboys since 2012 after playing collegiately at the University of Memphis, will be skipping organized team activities this week.

He signed his one-year $2.553 million restricted free-agent tender in late April, hoping to facilitate a trade on draft weekend.

Cowboys Executive Vice President Stephen Jones confirmed, via ESPN.com, that Leary drew interest from several teams during the draft, although Dallas did not seem prepared to simply “give away” the veteran guard. He is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent after the season.

The Tennessee Titans could perhaps benefit from acquiring Leary after losing versatile guard Byron Bell for the season to a dislocated ankle on Tuesday. Earlier this offseason, the Titans traded for running back DeMarco Murray, whom Leary helped run for an NFL-high 1,845 yards in 2014.

The Cowboys also recently signed Joe Looney as a backup guard/center to replace Mackenzy Bernadeau, who left as a free agent this offseason with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Leary reportedly received more than $200,000 guaranteed when he first joined the Cowboys.
