Early vote indications for the Pro Football Hall of Fame aren’t looking good for former New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning.

Early voting counts suggest Manning will not have enough votes to enter the Hall of Fame. This is his second year of eligibility. Although votes aren’t required to be public, it was reported that Manning didn’t come close in his first year on the ballot.

Manning’s Hall of Fame candidacy has long been the center of sports debates.

He has two main arguments in his favor. The first is his ability to raise his level of play in the playoffs. Manning is one of 13 QBs who have won multiple Super Bowls. Manning is one of six players with multiple Super Bowl MVPs. His 1,219 yards in the 2011 playoffs are a record that stands to this day.

The second argument would be his longevity. Manning retired top 10 in passing yards and passing TDs, and is currently ranked 11th in both. In 2018, at the age of 37, he threw 21 touchdowns, 11 interceptions and 4,299 passing yards. Few QBs have managed to keep this level of play for that long, let alone with an offensive line as bad as the 2018 Giants’ offensive line.

The two things holding his candidacy back are his interceptions and his lack of regular-season consistency. Manning led the league in interceptions three times. Although Hall of Famer Brett Favre did this as well, he’s also a three-time MVP. Manning, meanwhile, has a pretty empty regular-season resume. He made four Pro Bowls and never got an MVP vote.

Manning can be on the Pro Football Hall of Fame ballot up to 25 years after his retirement. In 2025, Manning said he was “at peace” with not being in the Hall of Fame, acknowledging that he played in a strong era and that the selection process is tough.

With the New York Giants exploring the sale of up to 10% of the franchise, a familiar face might be among the potential buyers.

Eli Manning, the franchise legend with two Super Bowl MVPs and 11th place in NFL history for both passing yards and passing touchdowns, has openly expressed interest in owning a stake in his former team.

“It’s definitely something of interest,” Manning said in an interview in January. “There’s probably only one team I’d be interested in pursuing, and it’s the one I played for for 16 years. And it’s local and makes the most sense, but we’ve just got to figure out if they would ever sell a little bit.”

The NFL introduced a rule in August enabling private equity firms to buy as much as 10% of a franchise. While John Mara and Steve Tisch will remain in charge, their partial sale is expected to establish a record-breaking valuation for an NFL team.

“The Mara and Tisch families have retained Moelis & Company to explore the potential sale of a minority, non-controlling stake in the New York Giants,” the organization said in a statement. “There will be no further comment in regard to the process.”

Ownership of the Giants remained solely with the Mara family from 1925 to 1991, at which point they sold a 50% stake to the Tisch family.

The franchise’s valuation is projected to be between $7.3 billion and $7.85 billion.

The Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills led the way in December, becoming the first teams to sell minority shares to private equity firms. The Bills’ 10 limited partners include NBA Hall of Famers Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady, and former U.S. soccer player Jozy Altidore.

The Philadelphia Eagles followed suit, recently selling 8% of their team at an $8.3 billion valuation, with the two family investors paying a combined $664 million for their stakes.

Deion Sanders has turned into a media superpower in his 15 months as the University of Colorado Boulder head football coach, and most recently made headlines commenting about the future of his son and other players in next year’s NFL Draft.

On the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast, Sanders said that he and his son and team quarterback Shedeur Sanders, as well as two-way star Travis Hunter, will have a say in their landing spot in the NFL.

“I know where I want them to go,” he said on the podcast. “So, it’s certain cities that ain’t going to happen. It’s going to be an Eli.”

Eli Manning was drafted by the San Diego Chargers with the first overall pick in 2004 but refused to play for the team. The team was able to trade Manning later on the same night to the New York Giants, where the quarterback won two Super Bowls and finished with a Hall of Fame-worthy career. Manning responded to the comments made by Sanders on X in a playful fashion.

https://twitter.com/EliManning/status/1772295267691172127

Like Manning and his father Archie, Sanders wants both Shedeur and Hunter to have the ability to pick where they go to play professionally, rather than the other way around. Manning was the most notable case of a player opting out of playing for a certain team, but if the two Colorado stars did the same it would make for massive headlines.

“There were certain cities that fit [for me],” Sanders said on the podcast about being drafted by the Falcons. “Atlanta fit, and I want that for my kids. All of them. I want the right fit. [Atlanta] was the first time I saw black people in positions of authority. It blew my mind. It was real in Atlanta. I had never seen anything like that in my life.”

A recent 2025 NFL Mock Draft from ESPN has Sanders as one of the top three quarterbacks, and Hunter as one of the top three cornerbacks set to be selected. In the 2023 season, Sanders threw for 3,230 yards, 27 touchdowns and three interceptions, while Hunter caught 57 passes for five touchdowns as well as bringing in five interceptions on defense. Sanders threw for the 25th most yards in the country while Hunter made the All-Pac-12 first team playing a majority of the team’s snaps.

Sanders has also said that he doesn’t want Shedeur or Hunter to play “anywhere cold.” In the podcast, he cited San Fransisco, Dallas, Baltimore and Washington all as possible landing spots for the current Buffaloes.

Though a college football coach, Sanders still holds a lot of power and sway in the NFL, and his comments could eventually become a reality. Both Sanders’ and Hunter’s draft stock has risen significantly since they arrived in Boulder, and will most likely continue to do so until the 2025 NFL Draft.

The NFL season is still months away so it is hard to get an idea of which teams will have a top pick next year, but it is safe to say that the draft status of Sanders and Hunter will be heavily discussed until then.

Marshawn Lynch shines in Raiders' season-opening win vs. Titans

On Monday, the Super Bowl XLVIII running back Marshawn Lynch appeared on Monday Night Football alongside hosts Peyton and Eli Manning. Lynch revealed that he would not come back to play in the NFL, even if he was asked by Tom Brady’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

During Lynch’s career, the 35-year-old was frequently in the headlines – most of the time for his powerful running and untouchable speed but sometimes for his larger-than-life personality and media antics. On Monday Night Football, he did not fail to be the most entertaining person on the T.V. screen.

For example, early on in the show, Lynch was asked about a certain pre-game ritual. Eli asked, “I learned that before games you had a pre-game ritual where you would do a shot and a half of Hennessy before the game. Did you do anything to get warmed up tonight?” Lynch jokingly replied in a way that excited fans for what was to come for the rest of the episode. “Well, I’m not playin’, so I had a three-shot minimum today. So I’m feeling real good. I took one for me, I took one for big bro, and I have one for little bro,” he said.

While the three did briefly discuss Lynch’s affinity for eating Skittles on the sidelines during his games – a habit that the three jokingly attributed to his edge over the competition – they also discussed some serious topics. Lynch, nicknamed “Beast Mode,” was asked how he learned to run with such raw power that would result in other players bouncing off of him. He was also asked if he would want to return to the NFL.

Peyton asked, “Marshawn if the Tampa Bay Bucs offered you a contract tomorrow, would you come back and play?”

Lynch then squashed the hopes of many “Beast Mode” fans and emphasized that he is happy where he is. “As much as I would love to go line it up with TB (Tom Brady), I’m satisfied where I’m at,” he said.

Lynch briefly retired after a fruitful career with the Seattle Seahawks in 2016 and then came back for three more seasons and retired again in 2019. Lynch is a five-time Pro Bowler, as well as earning a first-team All-Pro accolade and a Super Bowl championship.

Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin is letting the football world know where his eyes are set on the recruiting radar. That target would be Arch Manning, nephew of NFL greats Peyton and Eli Manning.

Kiffin’s now only follows two people on Instagram, his team’s current starting quarterback, Matt Corral, and the 2023 five-star rated Arch Manning.

On Monday, Arch’s uncle, Eli, appeared on The Pat McAfee Show and expanded on some advice he’s shared with the highly touted 16-year-old.

“I feel for him,” Eli said. “I mean, he’s got so much pressure, so many expectations. People say, ‘Hey I hear your nephew is going to be the best of all of y’all.’ I’m like, ‘Oh, that’s no pressure.’ Peyton just went into the Hall of Fame this year. It’s not hard to become better than him and have a better career.”

“I told him, ‘Hey, enjoy being a high school football player.’ Like, that is a great time in your life, some of the best friends you’ll have forever. Don’t start thinking so much about colleges or, ‘Hey, where am I going to go play college?’ and think about the next levels where you don’t get to enjoy this time in your life.”

Manning is scheduled to visit Alabama on October 2 and Oxford, Mississippi on October 23.

Tom Brady is set to enter the world of nonfungible tokens with his own autograph card. Lately, the non-fungible tokens have risen in popularity and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback will look to take part in it.

DraftKings Marketplace will be the home of Brady’s new autograph platform, which is now live. Autograph will be releasing Brady’s first preseason pass collection on Wednesday. The platform, which is co-chaired by Brady and entrepreneur Richard Rosenblatt, is giving similar treatment to NFTs from athletes such as Derek Jeter, Wayne Gretzky, Tony Hawk, and others.

“NFTs bring an entirely new dimension to the collector experience, and I cannot wait for people to discover and engage with this first-ever drop of Autograph’s official digital collectibles,” Brady said in a press release. ”We created Autograph as a way for fans and collectors to own a piece of iconic moments in sports and entertainment through authenticated and official digital collectibles, and we are just getting started!”

Created in 2014, NFTs serve as digital assets of unique items that are online and cannot be duplicated or copied. They are more or less digital trading cards, and they can be autographs, pieces of art, sound clips or video highlights. Because it’s completely digital, they don’t run the risk of damage and are easily authenticated.

Brady is one of several NFL stars involved with NFTs. Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes sold $3.4 million in NFTs in one night back in March. Brady’s long-time teammate Rob Gronkowski’s NFT trading card collection on OpenSea sold for $1.2 million. Peyton and Eli Manning created their own line on MakersPlace called the “Manning Legacy Collection.”

Phil Mickelson Calls Out Ryan Ruffels

On Sunday, Phil Mickelson won the PGA Championship to become the oldest player ever to win a major championship. Furthermore, he also becomes the fourth golfer in PGA Tour history to win in four different decades. That is a feat no other player has accomplished in the other major sports.

After winning, the 50-year-old spent his celebration by responding to people all over social media. Amongst the people who congratulated him were none other than active NFL legend Tom Brady. Last year, the two paired up in a match against Tiger Woods and Peyton Manning. However, the duo was unable to defeat Woods and Manning.

Following Mickelson’s win, Brady tweeted out to the golfer with the words, “That’s my quarterback!!! LFG.”

“We have some unfinished business,” Mickelson wrote in response. “Let’s get another match and find a pair to give a beat down.”

It certainly looks like the golfer is ready to run it back with Brady and find another pair to face in a gold match. While they could look for a pair, someone else is willing to face the two. A familiar name that Brady knows too well chimed in it was none other than Eli Manning. “I’m free,” wrote the New York Giants legend.

The younger Manning has beaten Brady twice in their Super Bowl matchups, so it will be interesting if they face one another in a golfing game.

NFL Hall of Famer and New York Giants legend Michael Strahan has revealed a new look. Long gone is the iconic tooth gap that Strahan has sported and now is a full set of teeth.

The former defensive end posted a video featuring Strahan going back and forth about filling the gap. In the video, Strahan talked to the dentist about how if he asked others about his choice, they would discourage him from doing it. “I got to do what I want to do for myself,” Strahan said in the video. At the end of the video, Strahan shows off his newly filled teeth in happiness. “I love it,” he said.

Strahan’s iconic tooth gap has always been associated with him throughout his career with the Giants. Drafted by the Giants in 1993, the Hall of Famer emerged as the star for the team. The Hall of Famer earned seven Pro Bowl selections in his career and won the 2001 Defensive Player of The Year award.

Strahan set the NFL record for most sacks in a season with 22.5 in 2001. He also led the league in sacks twice. The former defensive end was the lone star on the team until New York drafted Eli Manning.

The Pro Bowler played in Super Bowl XXXV, his first Super Bowl appearance but the Giants fell to the Baltimore Ravens 34-7. After the Super Bowl loss, the Giants would not find much playoff and regular season success until 2007. It seemed that Strahan would retire without a Super Bowl ring but in his final season in 2007, the Giants went on a surprising playoff run. The Giants finished the 2007 season with a 9-7 record and made it to the Super Bowl and defeated the New England Patriots. The win earned Strahan his first Super Bowl ring and he retired after that season.

The Pro Bowler was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2014 and had his jersey retired by New York.

Eli Manning #10 of the New York Giants

Former starting quarterback Eli Manning announced his retirement Thursday after spending the last 16 years as a member of the New York Giants. In his historic career, the 39-year-old compiled 366 touchdown passes and 57,023 passing yards, both of which are franchise bests.

Giants’ fans will never forget the two Super Bowl wins against the Patriots in 2008 and 2012. Underdogs in both games, Manning overcame the odds and became only the fifth player in NFL history to be named Super Bowl MVP in multiple games.

“This sport has very few real farewells,” Manning said at the podium inside the Giants’ practice facility during Friday’s retirement press conference. “It’s impossible to explain the satisfaction, and actually the joy I’ve experienced being a Giant. From the very first moment, I did it my way. I couldn’t be someone other than who I am. Undoubtedly I would’ve made the fans, the media and even the front office more comfortable if I was a more rah-rah guy. But that’s not me. Ultimately I choose to believe that my teammates and the fans learned to appreciate that. They knew what they got was pure unadulterated Eli.”

Giants co-owner John Mara told the New York Post that Manning’ will be inducted into the Ring of Honor next season and his jersey will be retired.

“This is certainly a day of very mixed emotions for us,” Mara said. “It’s sad in one sense because we’re seeing the end of an incredible playing career and saying goodbye to someone who has been everything you could ask a player to be both on and off the field for the last 16 years. Yet we’re also very happy to that we get to be here to celebrate that incredible career and we’re also able to witness one of the greatest players in franchise history be able to leave the game on his own terms, having played his whole career with the Giants, something that doesn’t always happen in this business. If anybody deserved that opportunity it’s Eli Manning. The last 16 years Eli has meant so much to all of us here with the giants and our fans. We all know about the two Super Bowl MVPs and all of the great performances on the field, but just as important was the way he conducted himself on and off the field as the consummate professional, always with dignity always with class.”

Eli Manning lead the Giants to a 36-20 victory over the Dolphins Sunday in what could be his last home game as a starter. Manning was replaced by Giant’s first round pick Daniel Jones in week three after the team started out 0-2, then came back last week because Jones was nursing an injured ankle.

Manning finished with two touchdowns and three interceptions with 283 passing yards before exiting the game. Head Coach Pat Shurmur took Manning out with 1:50 remaining so he could get a proper sendoff. The Giant’s faithful chanted “Eli, Eli!” repeatedly as Manning walked towards the sidelines getting emotional as the moment washed over him.

“Obviously, I don’t know what the future is. I don’t know what lies next week, let alone down the road. Obviously, the support and the fans, their ovation, chanting my name from the first snap to the end, I appreciate that. I appreciate them always and all my teammates coming up to me. It’s a special day, a special win and one I’ll remember,” Manning told ESPN.

Manning’s family was present at the game, including his parents, his wife and their four children. His three daughters met him in the tunnel as he came off the field, and he held his 10-month old son as his wife watched nearby.

Right from the jump Giants fans were chanting his name as he came onto the field for the Giants first drive. He was able to get a proper sendoff from them and in return he gave the fans a victory, bringing his regular season record back up to .500 at 117-117.

Manning gave a pre-game speech, which usually doesn’t occur, and his teammates made sure they wouldn’t disappoint. Saquon Barkley and Sterling Shepard told ESPN they looked at each other during the Giant’s first drive while Shepard said, “Let’s send him out on the right note. Do everything in our power.”

Barkley responded with 112 yards rushing and two touchdowns. His first game with 100 yards or more since week two and his first game with two or more touchdowns.

“If that is his last game and that’s the way we send Eli off, then that’s the way we envisioned doing [it]. I know I wanted to go out there and play my tail off, and I know those guys wanted to do the same, too, for No. 10. He’s meant so much to this city and to this franchise for such a long time. He’s a special person and a special player. If that is the way he gets sent off, I’m glad we were able to do it in a win and do it in that fashion,” Barkley said.

Shurmur was also happy to see Manning get a proper sendoff. “It’s good to be able to have Eli out there playing with us and help lead us to a victory. He’s certainly done many, many good things here for many, many years. For him to enjoy leading us to a victory should feel real special for him because of who he is.”

The Giant’s last game of the season will be at home, but the Giant’s haven’t announced who the starter will be for the last two games yet.

“I tried not to get too emotional just because we still have a couple football games left,” Manning said. “I know I’ll still be back in the stadium. I don’t know if I’ll play that day, but I know I’ll get to run out one more time at least. But still excited. Excited for the win and an honor if it is the last one playing here where I’m starting and getting a win. Try to enjoy it and take it in for a moment.”

New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning is set to start Sunday against the Miami Dolphins, making at least one more home start. This comes after rookie quarterback Daniel Jones suffered a high ankle sprain and was put on limited capacity after returning to practice this week.

Jones took over for Manning after Week 2, but suffered the ankle injury in their Week 13 loss to the Green Bay Packers.

This will be Manning’s second straight start after losing to the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night in overtime. Manning, who is in the final year of his contract, is unsure of what the future holds. He was the Giants’ starter for the majority of 15 seasons and has a pair of Super Bowl victories.

The 39-year old is set to finish out this season despite questions of his future in New York or in the NFL. After the Dolphins, the Giants face Washington followed by Philadelphia. Depending on how quickly Jones heals, he could be back for the game against Washington or the last regular season game against the Eagles.

High ankle sprains can be unpredictable, so a future Jones start is hard to say. But if Jones does return quickly, this could be Manning’s final home start.

Offensive coordinator Mike Shula showed confidence in Manning by saying, “He looks good. He’s had a good week. He always has a good look in his eye. He’s been great for me as a coach to be around. I’ve learned a lot from him.”

“We might not have him running the ball like we did with Daniel on the 1-[yard line], but other than that, really nothing”, Shula added. “Eli obviously knows our offense so well, and Daniel…We’ve given him probably more than we’ve given any other rookie as far as volume, putting things on his shoulders more so than other rookie quarterbacks.”

As the Giants look towards Sunday, it is safe to say the future of Jones’ injury remains unknown, as well as Manning’s future in the NFL.

PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA - DECEMBER 09: Quarterback Eli Manning #10 of the New York Giants is tackled by defensive end Josh Sweat #94 of the Philadelphia Eagles during the game at Lincoln Financial Field on December 09, 2019 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Eli Manning earned a big title on Monday night in his return to the New York Giants, but it wasn’t enough, as the team fell to the Eagles 23-17 in overtime in Philadelphia.

Manning threw two touchdown passes to rookie wide receiver Darius Slayton to pass Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethilsberger for seventh on the NFL’s all-time list. The veteran Giants signal-caller passed Roethlisberger after logging his 363rd and 364th career TD passes in the first half.

Passes like this one to Slayton — which put New York up 17-3 just seconds before halftime — prove Manning still has some gas left in the tank:

Despite the two-touchdown lead the Giants held at the half, Carson Wentz helped propel the Eagles to the come-from-behind victory, which Philadelphia secured with a 2-yard touchdown pass from Wentz to Zach Ertz with 5:10 left in overtime. This followed Wentz’ 5-yard throw to Ertz that tied it up at 17 just after the two-minute warning in regulation. Wentz finished with 325 passing yards and two touchdowns.

The heavily struggling Giants (2-11) had been hoping Manning — who finished 15-of-30 for 203 yards on Monday — would help rescue them after rookie QB Daniel Jones was ruled out last week with an ankle sprain. However, the Eagles are now 6-7 and one step closer to securing a playoff spot. Philadelphia holds the same record as the NFC East-leading Dallas Cowboys.

Giants fans will surely be upset if this turned out to be Manning’s last game. One would have hoped for a better sendoff for the two-time Super Bowl MVP and Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award winner but alas, it seems like Manning’s time with the G-Men is over.

As far as most NFL fans were concerned up until recently, Eli Manning‘s time with the New York Giants seemed to be virtually over. However, it now appears the veteran quarterback could get to start for the G-Men’s matchup against the Eagles in Philadelphia on Monday night.

According to CBS Sports, Giants coach Pat Shurmur said two-time Super Bowl champion Manning — who will be 39 next month — is “very likely” to start for the team’s Week 14 game, given that rookie QB Daniel Jones has been sidelined with a high ankle sprain.

Following a difficult start to this season, Manning was benched and replaced with Jones, a first-round draft pick out of Duke who delivered impressive performances in his first few NFL games. However, the Giants (2-10) are last in the NFC East and are now out of playoff contention for the third straight year. Many of their players, including second-year running back Saquon Barkley, have struggled lately. New York will undoubtedly face a tough challenge against the Eagles (5-7), who are second in the division and are fighting for a postseason spot. At the start of the season, Shurmur and Giants President and CEO John Mara insisted Manning would continue to be the team’s starter. Mara even controversially said he hoped Jones would never have to see a single snap in 2019.

Several NFL fans on Twitter quickly reacted to the announcement regarding Manning — who had one of his worst pro seasons last year — with a wide range of emotions, from surprise to mockery and concern. Here are some of the best reactions, which included GIFs and memes of pop culture references like baby Yoda from the upcoming film Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and Thanos from Avengers: Endgame.

Manning returning to the Giants by saying, “I’m baaaack:”

Other noted that Manning has a perfect career record as a starter for the Giants, thus seeming to imply there is no cause for worry.

Manning won’t be able to magically put the Giants in playoff contention at this point. However, this could very well be his last start for the team. Giants fans will have to hope he can at least deliver a strong performance and connect with the team’s receivers well. A touchdown pass or two and no interceptions would be great. The offensive line will need to protect Manning as much as possible, however. Here’s to hoping the younger Manning brother can ride off into the sunset with a great final game behind him.

The reign of Eli Manning in New York might come to a close this week as first round draft pick Daniel Jones is set to start his first NFL game in week 3 of the football season.

Ironically all the Jones comparisons are with Eli’s brother, Peyton Manning, with his football IQ, incredibly accurate passing and on-the-fly play calling. We got a glimpse of what he can do in the preseason when he played four games (starting one), amazing 416 yards with two touchdowns, no interceptions, a ridiculous 85% completion percentage and a 137.3 passer rating (which is not as impressive yet, given the size sample).

For those of us who got a chance to watch him play, it was obvious that it could be sooner than later for this Duke University prospect.

For his part, Manning took the demotion well, per Giants coach Pat Shurmur, “Eli and I spoke this morning. I told him that we are making a change and going with Daniel as the starter,” said Shurmur. “I also talked to Daniel. Eli was obviously disappointed, as you would expect, but he said he would be what he has always been a good teammate, and continue to prepare to help this team win games.”

Shurmur went on to explain that the decision was not about a problem with two-time Super Bowl MVP Manning, but it was about developing Jones and the future of the the team, and stressed Manning’s professionalism, work ethic, and his football IQ. “All those attributes are as good as I have ever seen in a player,” he stated.

The Giants started the season 0-2, with Manning getting 250 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions against the Buffalo Bills. His first game against the Dallas Cowboys he totaled 306 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions in a lopsided loss 35-17. Jones played garbage minutes and went 3/4 with 17 yards.

You can catch Jones’ first NFL start when the Giants play the newly ranked top ten defense of the Tampa Bay Bucs this Sunday, September 22 at 4:05 p.m. EST.

It’s that time of the year again. With the summer’s heat pounding down and the upcoming season’s pressure adding weight as well, the NFL’s backbreaking training camps commenced this week. As the season nears closer, players now look to solidify themselves apart their respective teams, coaches aim to mold rosters into winning squads, and fans trip over each other for autographs. With all the madness well in motion, take a look into camp and its most intriguing component, the quarterback competitions.

As the quarterback continues to hold the title as the most important position on gridiron, the battles to attain that starting job carry extreme gravity. Across the board a “young vs old” battle commences for multiple clubs this week. NFC East teams such as the New York Giants and the Washington Redskins both added quarterbacks in this draft, Daniel Jones for New York and Dwayne Haskins for Washington. DJ faces off against an aging, but still two-time Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning. Meanwhile, Haskins battles journeyman Case Keenum.

For Haskins, his 50 touchdowns caught Washington’s eyes draft night. However, experience obviously favors Keenum over Haskins. Although last year served as a blemish upon his record as the Broncos missed the playoffs once more, Keenum lead the Minnesota Vikings to the NFC Championship and remained within the MVP conversation throughout the year prior to that.

When the Giants took Jones at number six overall, greater criticisms came alongside him than Haskins, as many believe the Giants selected the Duke product far earlier than necessary. At the colligate level, Jones posted an admirable 131. 7 passer rating, however his case mirrors Washingtons’s, as Manning holds an experience based advantage. But with his decline becoming clear and the team’s apparent faith regarding Jones, it’s a more of a matter of “when” than “if” Jones replaces Manning.

After the Arizona Cardinals pulled the trigger to select Kyler Murray first overall, the team’s prior first round pick lost his footing with the team, as they promptly traded Josh Rosen to the Miami Dolphins. In Miami, Rosen opposes veteran journeyman Ryan Fitzpatrick. Although faltering during the season’s second half, Fitzpatrick threw the ball with the best of ‘em during his first games while playing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The gunslinger also put up noteworthy numbers four years ago while playing for the New York Jets, throwing for 3,905 yards. Rosen struggles appeared evident his rookie year with Arizona. Paring an 11 touchdowns to 14 interceptions, he eyes a fresh start, hoping to prove his worth as the former 10th overall pick.

Out West, Joe Flacco enters a bout with another rookie, Drew Lock. The ex–Missouri Tiger owned an impressive 28/8 touchdown to interception ratio last year, warranting the Broncos to select him with the 42nd overall pick. Before injury, last year Flacco earned a mediocre 84.2 passer rating. Now healthy, he looks resurge back into a starting role. Flacco, who once marched the Baltimore Ravens to a Super Bowl title, looks to avoid another rookie outperforming him for the second season, as Lamar Jackson’s emergence last year for Baltimore basically sent him packing.

NFL preseason training camp is finally here. Half of the 32 teams started prepping for the next season on Wednesday, and New York Giants first-round pick Daniel Jones, quarterback out of Duke, is impressing players, coaches and fans alike.

Eli Manning and Jones will battle for the starting spot. The 38-year-old two-time Super Bowl champion had one of the worst years of his career in 2018, throwing just 21 touchdowns in 16 games and recording 11 interceptions. The Giants will be looking to clearly improve on their 5-11 record from last season, and that may mean changing quarterbacks. Head coach Pat Shurmur hasn’t ruled out starting Jones instead of Manning, as the Giants will have to change things in a rebuilding year for the team.

“I’ve learned quite a bit,” Shurmur said, according to Giants.com. “None of it really surprised us in a negative way. He’s very smart. He’s one of the first guys in, one of the last guys to leave. He gets it from that standpoint. He throws the ball well, moves around well, he executes at a high level out there on the practice field. Training camp is the next step as we prepare for the preseason games and getting him ready to play so that he’s ready to go when it’s his time.”

SPORTS FIGURES WHO DIED IN 2019 – IN MEMORIAM SLIDESHOW

The Giants lost Odell Beckham Jr. this offseason, but picked up Golden Tate and Corey Coleman, and hung onto their star receiver last year, Sterling Shepard.

More impressively, Shurmur has said that Jones has “exceeded expectations” since drafting him back in April, according to Bleacher Report.

“We really haven’t seen anything he can’t do in terms of playing quarterback,” Shurmer said, according to ESPN.

For Manning, he has the starting role for now, and has taken the position of being a mentor for Jones in his development for the Giants’ future, as the 38-year-old is entering his 16th season in the NFL.

The New York Giants drafted Daniel Jones with their first pick during this year’s NFL draft. Although Jones’s less impressive talents for a sixth overall pick warranted excessive backlash from the New York media, the former Duke quarterback has youth on his side, unlike the team’s current starting quarterback from last year, Eli Manning.

With his age, Manning’s skills continue to deteriorate, as his 5,000 yard and 30+ touchdown seasons exist only as a distant memory. Although Manning perhaps stands as arguably the greatest Giants player ever with 2 Super Bowl MVPs under his belt, calls for his retirement continue to multiply with the team struggling and moving on from other players such as Odell Beckham Jrand Landon Collins.

However, Manning put to bed any rumors mentioning a possible retirement before next season this week.  “I’m not rushing into my retirement, and Peyton’s not telling me to rush into it,” said Manning. Last year Manning threw for a respectable 4,299 yards but only added 21 touchdowns. Manning also enjoyed an overlooked, career high 66 completion percentage. However, the Giants missed the playoffs once again last year after winning just five games while losing 11.

Giants general manager Dave Gettleman commented earlier this year when asked about New York’s quarterback situation, illustrating a possible situation that includes Jones serving as an understudy behind Manning for up to .three years, rather than taking the helm from Manning now.

Speculation aside, Manning continues to act professionally, as he has during his entire tenure as a Giant. Manning also mentioned his ongoing pleasure playing football in New York and plans to enjoy his career’s closing chapters as he stated, “I’ve been blessed going into my 16th year. That’s been a blessing in itself. I love what I’m doing. I love the work that goes into it. You never know when it’s going to be your last year or when it’s going to be the end for you, so you try to take advantage of the years you’re here and enjoy every moment.”

Eli Manning is now a 37-year old quarterback underplaying his $23.2 million cap hit.  He doesn’t add much to the New York Giants. In fact, he may take away. But in a draft class noted for lacking quarterback depth how do the Giants move on? The Giants quarterback himself is unsure of where the road ends. At the end of last year, Manning was unsure if he’d started his last game. “Last year I didn’t know,” Manning said Wednesday. “Hey, when you get to Year 15 these things come up.”

He also couldn’t decide if he’d return for a 16th season. “I don’t know,” he said. “Have not got into that or thought much about that. Just worried about doing my job and finishing the season. I didn’t know last year either. We’ll figure it out.”

The news came on the same day that Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert announced that he would return for his senior year. With the Giants sitting at 5-10, changes must come. The NFC East hasn’t had a repeat champion since the early 2000s but that’s no excuse for mediocrity. But even outside sources can’t decide what the team should do.

ESPN reporter Adam Schefter stood by Manning in a segment on Thursday. “Even if they were to go get Dwayne Haskins in the draft, wouldn’t you want Eli there to bridge the gap? I know that we’ve seen these rookie quarterbacks step in and be able to play right away, but Eli would be a nice fallback option to have.

And if you want a free agent, who’s out there? Nick Foles? Blake Bortles? Joe Flacco? Is one of those an obvious upgrade over Eli Manning and all that he’s meant to the Giants organization? Just tell me who the guy is that they’re going to replace Eli with?”

Hall of Famers Steve YoungTroy Aikman, and Curtis Martin all weighed in on the situation.

“No one ever leaves happy,” Young, an ESPN analyst and three-time Super Bowl champion, said. “There’s always this feeling that you gave your whole life, your body, your soul, your spirit and then they say goodbye.

Aikman said that “the end happens rather quickly.” He agreed with Young.  Martin felt the same way but added that Manning should be proud. “Yeah, the last couple of years haven’t been so great, but he’s accomplished a lot as an NFL quarterback.”

Eli Manning Leads Giants to 28-23 Win vs Eagles

It’s a must-win for the 1-4 New York Football Giants as they take on the equally desperate 2-3 Philadelphia Eagles for another showcase of Thursday Night Football.

Desperate Division Rivals Giants, Eagles Clash For TNF

Somehow, in a way only the Giants can manage, Big Blue is still in this thing. The NFC playoffs picture is bleak and undeveloped, but the frontrunners are beginning to mold, leaving the slow starters in the rearview with each passing week. With a bit of a Super Bowl hangover, the Eagles are feeling the same sense of urgency under the spotlight of FOX’s display of NFC East rivals.

After an exhilarating game that set up a devastating loss for the Giants, tensions are high and the wins low. Running back Saquon Barkley had another outstanding game and is poised for another big receiving matchup against a tepid Eagles pass defense. Wide receiver Odell Becham Jr. could see the same success, as he looks to score his first receiving touchdown of the season.

The Giants will desperately need offensive production in what could turn into a ballistic shootout with the Eagles’ decimated run game following the loss of RB Jay Ajayi to an ACL tear. The Eagles will assuredly get pressure on the Giants offense and quarterback Eli Manning, and how his play mirrors that of opposing QB Carson Wentz will be key in the final score.

With both teams hungry for first place in the division, it’ll only take a win tonight to become a step closer, as Washington still sits atop at 2-2.

Thursday’s game at MetLife Stadium will start at 8:20 p.m. EST and will air on FOX and NFL Network.

Eli Manning's 3 Interceptions Lead Giants to 24-19 Loss to Eagles

New York Giants fans have been accustomed to seeing Eli Manning start every game since nearly the beginning of his NFL career, but he has now been replaced.

Eli Manning Benched by Giants News

The team announced Tuesday that Geno Smith will replace Manning — who has played his entire 13-year career for the Giants — as starting quarterback for Sunday’s matchup against the Raiders in Oakland. Smith, 27, played his first four seasons with the Jets before signing with the Giants last offseason.

Rookie Davis Webb — a third-round pick out of California — will also receive a few snaps before the end of the season, the Giants added.

Manning — the top overall pick out of Ole Miss in 2004 — has started every Giants game since Nov. 21, 2004, a streak of 210 straight regular-season contests that ranks second on the quarterback career list behind only Brett Favre’s 297. He took over for veteran Kurt Warner just ten games into the season.

Manning has won two national championships (after the 2007 and 2011 seasons) with the Giants, and was named the MVP of both those Super Bowls. He is also a four-time Pro Bowler and was named the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year in 2016.

The Giants (2-9) have endured an atrocious season — that has included a string of injuries and short suspensions — under second-year head coach Ben McAdoo. New York’s only two victories this year have come against the Denver Broncos in Week 6 and against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 11. The team’s offense has been especially terrible: it ranks second-to-last in the league in scoring.

In Thursday’s Thanksgiving 20-10 loss to the Washington Redskins, Manning struggled. He finished 13 of 27 for 113 yards and an interception. This has not been the 36-year-old quarterback’s worst season statistically, although it remains clear the Giants are pursuing as many options as possible.

Several former Giants stars voiced their disdain of McAdoo’s decision. McAdoo’s predecessor, Tom Coughlin, said he was devastated but not shocked.

“Surprised is not the word,” Coughlin, the executive VP of football operations for the Jaguars, told WJXL-AM. “My sentiments are totally with Eli Manning. I love the kid. He is a class act. He is a two-time Super Bowl champion. He is the finest, most humblest young man in that locker room.”

Added Coughlin: “I haven’t followed the Giants. I know it’s a disappointing year, but my thoughts are strictly with Eli. I was very upset … when I heard that.”

Coughlin coached Manning from 2004 to 2015. Among the other ex-Giants who weighed in on the QB’s benching were CBS analyst David Diehl, Justin Tuck, Tiki Barber, Osi Umenyiora and Plaxico Burress. Diehl even noted a classy move that Manning made following the news.

“Just the way that this is going down is very disheartening from Giants fan’s perspective and as a former teammate of his, and all the great things he achieved in his career,” said Barber. “You don’t want to see it end like this. It’s disappointing. I feel like it’s premature.”

All of these players’ sentiments are perfectly understandable, particularly as everything appears to show that most of the Giants’ blunders this season are nearly everyone’s fault except Manning’s.

Manning reportedly was offered to start against Oakland, but declined. In the Giant’s press conference on Tuesday, McAdoo stated he wanted to rotate the squad and assess the depth chart now that the team won’t be advancing to the playoffs. They suggested starting Smith the second half against the Raiders, but Manning said he didn’t feel comfortable starting merely to keep his 13-year streak alive. So he surrendered his starting position to Smith and potentially Webb.

“Coach McAdoo told me I could continue to start while Geno and Davis are given an opportunity to play,” Manning told CBS Sports. “My feeling is that if you are going to play the other guys, play them. Starting just to keep the streak going and knowing you won’t finish the game and have a chance to win it is pointless to me, and it tarnishes the streak. Like I always have, I will be ready to play if and when I am needed. I will help Geno and Davis prepare to play as well as they possibly can.”

Coughlin and Diehl’s compliments for Manning seem accurate given this quote. The quarterback truly speaks and acts like a humble and selfless man.

Webb, selected in the third round from California, called Manning the “best teammate I’ve ever had in my life” as part of his effusive praise for the veteran.

“Today was pretty big,” Webb said Tuesday. “The way [Manning] handled himself, the way he handled himself in front of teammates, myself and Geno included, he was first class.”
