The now-St. Louis Cardinals outfielder brought a custom pair of Jordan Brand sneakers for outgoing president Barack Obama.

Fowler unveiled the Air Jordan 4s in a video posted on The Players’ Tribune’s Instagram page that he took just before entering the White House.

The shoes are black and white, have the presidential seal on the tongue, and also have Obama’s signature etched on the side.

The shoes look very stylish, and Obama will surely enjoy them. As mentioned earlier, it’s not every day a president receives his own personalized pair of shoes, and from a national championship-winning team no less.

The Cubs defeated the Cleveland Indians in seven games to win the World Series in November. The team also gave Obama a personalized jersey with his name and the number 44 (the number of his presidency) on the back.

Although the Cardinals did not partake in any trades during their four-day stay at the Winter Meetings, it did not take long after their return to St. Louis for them to continue their pursuit of a new center fielder.

Dexter Fowler, Cardinals Agree On Five-Year Deal

The team announced Friday morning that it had signed Dexter Fowler to a five-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed, although MLB Network Insider Ken Rosenthal reported that it was worth $82.5 million and includes a full no-trade clause.

“It was an honor just to be even considered to be in the Cardinals organization,” Fowler said at an introductory news conference on Friday. “I feel like this team has a chance to win the World Series, and that was a big part in coming here.”

Fowler will now take over for St. Loiuis in center, with Randal Grichuk likely shifting to left field. Fowler will take his physical in St. Louis on Friday.

The 30-year-old played a key role in the Chicago Cubs teams that combined for 200 wins in the past two seasons, and the leadoff man for the reigning World Series champions.

“From Day 1, this was always someone that we were hoping to sign,” Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said. “When we talked a couple of nights ago on the phone, we explained to him how excited we are for how well we believe he’s going to fit into our lineup and fit into our clubhouse.”

Signing Fowler cost the Cardinals their first-round pick (19th overall) in the 2017 Draft, since the Cubs made him a qualifying offer. The Cardinals, in particular, had no interest in dealing top prospect Alex Reyes to address their outfield needs.

Fowler entered the free-agent market last offseason hoping to land a multiyear contract, but he struggled to do so due to the qualifying-offer system. Fowler instead returned to the Cubs under a one-year deal and delivered a fantastic season.

The center fielder hit 276/.393/.447 with 25 doubles, seven triples, and 13 home runs in 2016, walking 79 times in 125 games while setting a career high in on-base percentage (OBP).

“You can’t control what goes on, but I loved my time in Chicago, and I’m definitely not counting them out, but we’ll see what God has planned for us now,” Fowler said in an interview on ESPN’s SportsCenter on Nov. 3.

A year after the Cubs took two of the Cardinals’ free agents, Jason Heyward and John Lackey, St. Louis has returned the favor.

With an impressive career OBP of .366, Fowler would be an interesting leadoff option for the Cardinals, who could then place Matt Carpenter into more of a run-production spot in the lineup.

“One of the things we wanted to address was athleticism,” Mozeliak said. “We wanted to address someone who could hit at the top of the order if possible, to give us flexibility with Carpenter. And we were also trying to find someone that was extremely competent on the basepaths. And I think we were able to accomplish that.”

Chicago Cubs center fielder Dexter Fowler withdrew from Tuesday’s All-Star Game over the weekend, according to several reports.

Dexter Fowler Withdraws From All-Star Game After Hamstring Injury

This would have been Fowler’s first All-Star Game, but he has chosen not to play in order to give himself more time to recover from a strained hamstring, according to MLB.com.

The center fielder was placed on the 15-day disabled list on June 20 with a right hamstring injury. He was injured while running out a grounder to third in the first inning of the Cubs’ 4-3 home victory over the Pirates on June 18.

Fowler, 30, was sitting at a. 290 before his injury.

“The word I got back was he didn’t feel anything other than he couldn’t push it,” Cubs manager Joe Maddon said regarding Fowler’s decision to not re-aggravate his injury by participating in the All-Star Game.

He began a rehab assignment Friday at Class A South Bend, according to MLB.com. Although Fowler will not play, he will still travel to Petco Park in San Diego and partake in the All-Star Game festivities along with the six other Cubs also named to the National League team: second baseman Ben Zobrist, third baseman Kris Bryant, first baseman Anthony Rizzo, shortstop Addison Russell, right-handed pitcher Jake Arrieta, and left-handed pitcher Jon Lester.

Pirates outfielder Starling Marte and Reds outfielder Jay Bruce have been named to the NL team to replace Fowler and Mets outfielder Yoenis Cespedes.

Fowler received the most votes among National League outfielders: 2,230,877.

The NL starting lineup also includes Nationals right fielder Bryce Harper, Padres designated hitter Wil Myers, Giants catcher Buster Posey, Marlins center fielder Marcell Ozuna, Rockies left fielder Carlos Gonzalez and Giants right-hander Johnny Cueto.

Meanwhile, the American League starting lineup boasts Astros second baseman Jose Altuve, Angels center fielder Mike Trout, Orioles third baseman Manny Machado, Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz, Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts, Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer, Red Sox right fielder Mookie Betts, Royals catcher Salvador Perez, Red Sox left fielder Jackie Bradley Jr. and White Sox left-hander Chris Sale.

The All-Star Game will begin at 8 pm on Tuesday night and will air on FOX.
