Stephen Curry will not be able to help his team until at least February after being ruled out for the next 3-4 months with a broken left hand.

The All-Star point guard, who has led the Golden State Warriors to five consecutive NBA finals appearances, sustained the injury in Wednesday’s 121-110 loss to the Phoenix Suns.

With Curry out, the Warriors are likely to struggle through this NBA season and could potentially not make the playoffs — let alone the finals — this year. These struggles are further compounded by the loss of deep-threat guard Klay Thompson, who is most likely out for the entire season as he needs to rehab his surgically repaired ACL.

“It’s been a tough start for us on many levels,” head coach Steve Kerr said. “Obviously this puts us in a tough spot.”

With a shortened season and more time to rest, Curry has begun to turn his focus to the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. Even after all of the accolades that Curry has amassed over his career — personal or team — the one thing he is still searching for is an Olympic gold medal. After this past summer’s FIBA World Cup, the U.S. team will certainly be looking for redemption after an abysmal seventh-place finish. Team USA got bounced by Serbia much sooner than they were supposed to.

The Warriors star’s father, Dell Curry, also remained adamant that the point guard will be ready for the Olympic games in late July:

“Absolutely. That was definitely a goal coming into this year. He wants to play in the Olympics,” Dell Curry told The Undefeated on Friday night. “This is a little setback, but hopefully it’s a goal he can strive for through his rehab.”

The United States team will likely count on Curry heading into the Olympics and greatly benefit from having him on the court, especially because it remains unlikely that Thompson will be healthy in time for those games. The Americans will definitely be hoping to put on a much better showing in Tokyo next July than they did this past summer.

Before the Golden State Warriors’ 126-111 home victory over the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday night, Stephen Curry decided to play around with his father Dell Curry for a while.

The two-time MVP and Warriors point guard passed the ball to Dell, the Hornets’ all-time leading scorer, who sank a deep 3-pointer off the glass in seemingly effortless fashion.

Like father, like son, apparently: both Currys’ ability to score from well beyond the 3-point line is impressive.

Watch the Curry father-son duo in action here:

Steph Curry couldn’t help but pump his fist in the air, laugh and celebrate in awe of his 52-year-old father’s skill for making such a shot just a few feet from the sideline. Dell served as a commentator for the Hornets on Wednesday.

Curry finished with 39 points, including 11 3-pointers, in Wednesday’s win over Charlotte (23-27) at Oracle Arena in his return from a one-game absence due to illness.

In his last six quarters, the 28-year-old has hit 20 3-pointers and 82 points– and Golden State (42-7) have led by so much in the fourth quarter that coach Steve Kerr was able to rest his MVP for the period both times.

”It’s always cool to see my dad on the sidelines commentating the game on their end,” Curry said. ”You get a little juice from that, too. … I don’t take those opportunities for granted because this an unbelievable opportunity to play the game that he played for 16 years in the NBA and carry on that name in the league.”

Klay Thompson added 29 points for the Warriors, who have won seven of their last eight games and four straight. He also matched his career high with eight assists.

The Warriors next visit the Los Angeles Clippers on Thursday in a second straight back-to-back set.

The Hornets, who have lost six straight, will visit the Utah Jazz on Saturday.
