Tottenham’s Dele Alli experienced a scare early Wednesday morning, when thieves broke into his North London home, stealing thousands of dollars worth of jewelry. Alli was robbed at knifepoint, which led to him suffering minor injuries to his face, but he did not need to receive any significant medical attention.

The robbers took various items, which included some expensive watches and jewelry prior to fleeing, according to authorities. Police have said that no arrests have been made.

In a Twitter post, Alli thanked his fans for the kind messages, but did not go into any details regarding the encounter.

Alli’s club, Tottenham, issued a statement, offering their support, “We encourage anyone with any information to help the police with their investigation to come forward.”

The 24-year old Alli is expected to resume training with Tottenham, as the English Premier League looks to resume its season in June.

Toby Alderweireld (Tottenham) issues warning to Chelsea before game vs Arsenal

Tottenham’s disappointing week continued following a 2-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge to London rivals Chelsea on Saturday. The loss comes just three days after a 1-0 UEFA Champions League home loss to German Bundesliga side RB Leipzig.

Spurs came into the week shorthanded after attacking winger Son Heung-Min had surgery to repair a broken arm he sustained a week ago during a match against Aston Villa and his absence definitely contributed to the team’s lack of possession and chances on the counter attack. In the first half, the club sat back on defense as Chelsea were the aggressors playing a fast pace while controlling 80% of the possession through the first 20 minutes of action.

Chelsea broke through first with a lead pass that lead to a Olivier Giroud goal in the 16th minute. Off the pass, Giroud had his first shot blocked and a second attempt by Ross Barkley hit the post and rolled back towards Giroud who connected with a powerful left-footed shot that just snuck under Tottenham keeper, Hugo Lloris, before hitting the back of the net.

In the post match interview, a jubilant Giroud told Football London, “It was a very important game for us today. I want to talk about the team spirit and we have shown great character today. We knew that it was maybe a kind of turning point because we had maybe lost a little bit of confidence. At home, it was nice to bounce back and get this win, a hard win, against a rival. So, yes, I feel relieved today. The [3-4-3] worked perfectly for us. We have shown through the season that we can adapt to different systems. Every game is different but I think half of the tactics today were about us knowing what this game means for everyone at this football club, for the fans.”

Spurs faced a 1-0 deficit at halftime having been completely outplayed and were unable to create enough chances. Coach Jose Mourinho alluded to Kane and Son’s absence in the post match press conference and told Football London, “The only thing I can say is with what we have at the moment, the power we have or don’t have, the almost unique situation we’re living in at the moment, it’s very difficult to do better, especially when the opponent scores before us.”

Chelsea was able to score a second in the 48th minute off a throw-in that caught Spurs’ napping, which resulted in a powerful shot from left back Marcos Alonso that blew by Lloris.

Tottenham had a few chances in the second half including a late goal that came from Erik Lamela’s attempted cross that was deflected in by by Antonio Rudiger, but it came in the 89th minute, too little, too late.

The game, however, wasn’t without controversy. In the second half, there was a pivotal moment while Spurs were trying to keep the ball by the sideline near the managers’ box. As Giovani Lo Celso gathered the ball, Chelsea center back Cesar Azpilicueta came in with a aggressive sliding challenge that Lo Celso responded to with an allegedly inadvertent step on his shin. The referee was offered assistance from VAR to review the call, and although he could have reviewed it himself at the video booth on the sideline, he left it in the hands of people sitting in a replay room. What could have easily been a red card turned out to be just a common foul leaving Chelsea coach Frank Lampard irate.

“Everybody knew they made a mistake,” Lampard told The Guardian. “We have the monitor and can view it. I was just waiting for the red card to be shown – not with real pleasure – because it’s just a tackle that endangers the player. That’s what VAR was brought in for, to see things that the referee and the pitch-side [official] don’t see. It’s just not good enough. Saying afterwards that they made a mistake is not good enough because they had a couple of minutes to try to get it right. They probably needed one viewing of that one to get it right. It’s another huge question mark on VAR. This one doesn’t need [the referee to look at] a pitch-side monitor. It’s a clear decision, a human decision. So Stockley Park, red card.”

The bottom line is Tottenham were completely outplayed and there wasn’t enough creativity involved to set up scoring opportunities. Lamela had a very positive impact in the game against Leipzig and should have started the game on Saturday because he brought energy and passion that most of his teammates lacked. There were also not enough connecting passes that could break down the defense as midfielder Dele Alli was surprisingly left on the bench before being substituted late in the game.

“We had strange game plans but we needed to have them,” Mourinho told NBC Sports. “Like Lamela who played well, people think I’m stupid that I don’t play him, but he’s constantly communicating with me in the warm-up, can I play or not. He was telling me his feelings.”

Mourinho noted that several players including Lo Celso, Steven Bergwijn and Lucas Moura were playing out of position and trying to do everything they could but there’s no reason Alli, who is one of the club’s top players, should’ve been left on the bench for the majority of a critical match that could’ve potentially moved Spurs ahead of Chelsea in the Premier League Standings. They now trail Chelsea by four points for the last Champions League spot. Mourinho has to get more inspiration from his players and use formations that cater to the team’s strengths or this season will be a lost cause.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli has received a three-game ban from UEFA following his red card in last month’s 2-2 Europa League tie against Belgian club Gent.

The English star, who will be 21 next month, was sent off in the 39th minute of Tottenham’s second-leg home game of the Europa League round of 32 against Gent on Feb. 23. Alli, who joined Tottenham in 2015 after four years with English club Milton Keynes Dons, drew the red card by tackling Brecht Dejaegere.

Hotspur were knocked out of the tournament after losing 3-2 on aggregate (Gent won the first-leg game 1-0).

Given Tottenham’s current Premier League standing (second place), Alli will likely miss the Spurs’ next three Champions League group-stage games.

Tottenham’s next three games are Premier League matches. They visit Burnley on April 1 and Swansea on April 5, and then host Watford on April 8. They have ten games remaining in the Premier League in total.

UEFA has also fined three other European teams. Arsenal have been fined £4,300 ($5,367) after some of their fans ran onto the field at Emirates Stadium during a 5-1 home loss to Bayern Munich in the second-leg game of the Champions League round of 16 two weeks ago.

Bayern Munich have also been fined £2,600 ($3,242) after their own fans delayed that same game against Arsenal by throwing rolls of paper onto the field in protest over ticket prices.

French club Saint-Etienne, meanwhile, have been fined £43,000 ($$53,630) after their fans set off fireworks and threw objects during their Europa League game against Manchester United at Old Trafford last month.

Alli also missed the last three games of last season’s Premier League after admitting a charge of violent conduct for punching West Brom’s Claudio Yacob in the stomach.

Tottenham Hostpur midfielder Dele Alli has signed a new six-year contract with the team, the Spurs announced Monday.

Dele Alli Signs New Six-Year Deal With Tottenham Hotspur

Alli, 20, joined Tottenham from MK Dons in February 2015, and his new deal at White Hart Lane will run until 2022. The English youngster has recorded 11 goals and nine assists in his 38 Premier League appearances for manager Mauricio Pochettino’s club.

Alli explained in a video how excited he was to sign the new deal:

Alli has seen an incredible improvement as a professional player since making his Tottenham debut from the bench against Manchester United in August 2015. He scored 10 goals in 46 appearances across all competitions last season, and played a crucial role in helping Spurs to finish third and qualify for the Champions League.

Last September, Alli started for the first time for Tottenham away against Sunderland, and stated: “I remember that game, I didn’t expect to play as quickly as I did and make an impact in the team,” he said. “It’s happened so quickly, starting at Tottenham, playing for England … it’s been a crazy year for me and there are so many people I have to thank.”

Alli continued: “I’m happy to be at this club and I can’t thank the manager and all the staff enough for everything they’ve done for me, and the fans, they’ve been right behind me since I signed. Hopefully there are a lot of good times to come.”

The midfielder’s performances during the 2015-2016 season earned him the PFA Young Player of the Year award, and he was also named in the PFA Premier League team of the year.

Alli won his first match with England against Estonia in October, and later earned a place in former England manager Roy Hodgson’s final squad for Euro 2016, although he struggled during that tournament. He has won 12 total caps and scored one goal, a fantastic long-range shot against France in a friendly at Wembley in November. Hodgson resigned following England’s stunning elimination by Iceland at Euro 2016.

Thus far this season, he has played in all five of Spurs’ Premier League games and scored once, in a 4-0 victory at Stoke earlier this month.

“I have to keep trying to improve,” said Alli. “I can’t get carried away, I have to keep trying to make each year better than the last. This will be a tough year to top but hopefully I can do it.

“I’ve tried to grow up. I’ve got great people around me to help keep my feet on the ground and I’ll keep working hard on my football and keep trying to improve.”
