Tyreek Hill suffered a knee injury on Monday night against the New York Jets. In the second half, he was escorted off the field after being tackled by Jets’ defender Malachi Moore. The Miami Dolphins won the game 27-21.

Hill was later diagnosed with a dislocated knee and multiple torn ligaments, including his ACL. He will require surgery, which is expected to occur on Tuesday. It is likely Hill will miss the rest of the 2025 season.

Hill’s absence leaves a massive void in Miami’s offense. The five-time Pro Bowler has been the team’s most dynamic playmaker since joining the Dolphins in 2022. After exiting the field, the Dolphins stated, “he was being taken to a local hospital for evaluation.”

It was later confirmed by head coach Mike McDaniel “that Hill will need surgery.” With Hill out for what looks like the rest of the season, the team will need to heavily lean on wide receiver Jaylen Waddle, as well as Darren Waller. This will also give rookie Malik Washington the opportunity for more playing time.

The injury comes at a critical point in the season for Miami, as they had just earned their first win of the season that night. The path ahead for Miami appears challenging as it attempts to regain momentum. The Dolphins face a tough stretch of games in the upcoming weeks, starting with a matchup against the Carolina Panthers. This will be the Dolphins’ first test of how the offense will look without Hill. The Panthers also being 1-3 makes the playing field a little more even. Still, without Hill’s explosiveness, Miami will need to find new ways to generate big plays and keep pressure off quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

Beyond the upcoming game against Carolina, Miami’s season will depend on how quickly its offense can adapt. Waddle and Waller must rise to the occasion if the Dolphins hope to stay competitive.

Ten-year NFL TE Darren Waller is expected to retire, and an official announcement should be next week.

Waller, the second-year New York Giants pass-catcher, did not make an appearance at any portion of voluntary training camp. With the mandatory minicamp approaching next week, he stated on Instagram Live that he would decide on his career shortly.

It has been a challenging year for Waller. Last season, he only played in 12 games for the Giants as he battled a hamstring injury while only scoring one touchdown. Off the field, he and WNBA star Kelsey Plum filed for divorce just a year after tying the knot. Waller released a song and music video last week about his relationship with Plum, which sparked speculation about his investment in football.

Waller’s career began with the Baltimore Ravens, but his playing time almost ended after being suspended for a year while battling drug addiction in his third season. He received a fresh start with the Oakland Raiders in 2018, and after playing sparingly, he burst onto the scene a year later.  The TE totaled over 1,000 yards in 2019 and 2020 and was named to the Pro Bowl. After two more seasons with the Raiders, the Giants traded a 2023 third-round pick for the tight end a year after he signed a 3-year $51 million extension with now Las Vegas.

In the fourth round, New York made its stance clear on Waller when drafting Theo Johnson, another tight end out of Penn State. It was the second pass-catcher the Giants took, along with WR Malik Nabers in the first round, as they attempted to shore up the skill positions around QB Daniel Jones. According to ESPN, they would be pleasantly surprised if Waller returned to them this offseason and are planning their team with the thought process that he will retire.

New York Giants tight end Darren Waller released a music video Thursday that seemingly alludes to his recent divorce from WNBA star Kelsey Plum. Waller’s future with the Giants is still uncertain, as he has not yet reported to OTAs and has repeatedly claimed to be considering retirement.

The music video, in which he speaks to a woman presumably representing Plum, depicts a distraught Waller lamenting the loss of a loving relationship. He expresses regret and resentment through auto-tuned lyrics and increasingly intense imagery. The music video culminates in the woman stabbing him in the back and leaving him lying face down on a beach.

Social media users’ reactions to Waller’s new song are mixed. Some are using it as an excuse to discuss his split with Plum further, a topic that has been reinvigorated several times since the WNBA season began. Others, mostly Giants fans, have expressed frustration that their tight end is releasing music videos instead of reporting to off-season training with the team.

“I haven’t [set a deadline], but I know at the end of the day, you know, there’s going to be no considering in reevaluating past when people report to camp, but I feel like I am getting an inch closer to a decision,” Waller said about retirement last month.

Waller was in the midst of a solid season with the struggling Giants last season when he tore his hamstring and had to miss more than a month of action. He finished the year with 52 catches for 552 yards and a touchdown in 12 appearances.

At 31, Waller’s potential retirement would likely be related to his health rather than his age. The tight end has had issues with injuries for his entire career, and those setbacks have taken a toll on his ability in recent seasons. Based on the content of his music video, it’s also a distinct possibility that he could step away from the sport to deal with personal matters. 

While the Giants remain patient for now as Waller contemplates, the team will likely have to decide before June as it prepares a roster for 2024. The team has picked up several receivers to give returning quarterback Daniel Jones more options through the air, putting Waller in an even more uncertain position between the lines.

The Raiders and long-time Cowboys veteran tight end Jason Witten have agreed to a one-year deal worth up to $4.75 million. The news comes after the Cowboys agreed to a three-year extension with promising young tight end Blake Jarwin. 

Witten spoke to reporters in February about his desire to finish his career in a Cowboys’ uniform but remained open to playing elsewhere if the opportunity presented itself. “I think I have to be,’’ Witten said. “Obviously, that’s not ideal. I would love to finish it out here. But you know, some of those things are not in your control. I’m not naive enough to think that couldn’t be somewhere else. Of course, I want that to be with the Dallas Cowboys. I will always be a Dallas Cowboy but also understand that may mean with all the changes that I have to go somewhere else.’’

Witten hopes to use his experience to improve Oakland tight end Darren Waller’s game even more. The 27-year-old is coming off a career season that consisted of career-highs in catches (90), receiving yards (1,145) and touchdowns (3) after battling substance abuse issues the last couple of years. Jon Gruden has great respect for veteran players and must feel confident in Witten’s leadership abilities that his young Raiders team desperately needs.

Witten was the longest-tenured player on the Cowboys having spent his entire 16-year career with Dallas. Last season, he compiled 63 receptions for 529 yards and four touchdowns. He leaves the franchise as the all-time leader in games played (239), receiving yards (12,939) and receptions (1,215).
