At halftime of the Sunday contest between the Green Bay Packers and the Carolina Panthers, a skydiver attempted what could be called his very own version of the famous “Lambeau Leap.”

As the skydiver descended down onto the field, he couldn’t quite stick the landing and ended up hitting the padded wall in the right corner of the end zone. Not to alarm the spectators, though, the man popped right back up and gestured to the crowd, signaling that he was okay.

Immediately following the incident, Fox Sports tweeted: “During halftime at Lambeau, a skydiver crashed into a wall while landing. He popped right up though and seemed to be ok!”

This incident only echoed the hard hits of the Packers defense, as they would go on to win the game 24-16 and hold elusive Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey to just 141 total yards from scrimmage.

Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers praised his running back, Aaron Jones, following the win and Jones’ second three-touchdown performance of the year.

“We all know that Christian is a very talented player, and he’s been mentioned in the MVP race. So maybe it’s time to start talking about Aaron Jones,” Rodgers said.

Jones remained humble after the dominant performance, mostly doling out credit to his blockers:

“I’m just glad I could help my team get the win. It all starts up front with those guys getting the push up front and the rest of the blocking unit,” said Jones, who has a career-high 11 scores on the ground this season.

Following the loss, McCaffrey was quick to turn the focus to next week and to rally his team in anticipation of their matchup against the Atlanta Falcons. “You’ve just got to move on, you’ve got to get better this week,” McCaffrey said.

The Packers currently sit at 8-2 and are in first place in the NFC North. On November 24, they will travel to San Francisco to take on the 49ers.

As for the skydiver, one can only speculate as to whether or not he will continue to practice his “Lambeau Leap.”

Sprint car driver Jason Johnson died at age 41 on Sunday after a brutal crash at Beaver Dam Raceway in Wisconsin, race officials confirmed.

Johnson became injured during a World of Outlaws race on Saturday evening at the Beaver Dam track. The collision he was involved in came during lap 18 of a 40-lap event. He was soon taken to a local hospital and died Sunday morning from injuries he suffered during the crash.

Jason Johnson Racing sent out a tweet saying the team was “heartbroken and saddened to tell you that we have lost our leader, friend, family member and our hero.”

General Motors Executive Vice President of Global Product Development Mark Reuss caused a big scene at Sunday’s Detroit Grand Prix Indycar race after he wrecked the Corvette pace car he was driving.

Reuss was driving the car for the “parade lap” that came before the race officially began. Reuss was coming off a turn when the back end of the vehicle became detached and the car began spinning quickly, and its front bumper crashed into a nearby wall.

Reuss and the passenger next to him, Indycar manager Mark Sandy, were both unhurt. However, the competition was delayed by around 30 minutes while the debris from the collision was cleaned up.

GM released the following statement regarding the crash:

“We are thankful that there were no serious injuries. Both the pace car driver and the series official were taken to the infield care center, where they were checked, cleared and released. It is unfortunate that this incident happened. Many factors contributed, including weather and track conditions. The car’s safety systems performed as expected.”

Reuss apologized for the accident in a Facebook post:

“I have driven this course many many many times,” he wrote. “I have paced this race in the wet, cold, hot, and calm. On [Corvette] Z06’s, Grand Sports, and other things. It is never a casual thing for me, but an honor to be asked. Today I let down my friends, my family, Indycar, our city and my company. Sorry does not describe it. I want to thank our engineers for providing me the safety I know is the best in the world.”

On the 172nd lap of the Alabama 500, a major collision occurred at Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday in the penultimate race of the quarterfinal round of 12.

The crash involved 16 cars and happened with 17 laps left when No. 78 Toyota driver Martin Truex Jr. and David Ragan seemed to slightly touch each other. Ragan, the No. 38 Ford driver, was briefly pulled to the right of the track before veering left and spinning Kurt Busch in the middle of the group of vehicles. Busch then slammed into the wall and flames went up on the 2.66-mile track as the race was stopped for the crash that Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kyle Busch were also involved with.

Ryan Blaney (18th), Jimmie Johnson (24th), Ricky Stenhouse Jr. (26th) and Kyle Busch (27th) missed opportunities to put themselves in relatively safe positions heading into the last race before the semifinals.

They’re all competing for NASCAR playoff spots at Kansas, where four drivers will be eliminated. Ninth-place Busch is at the cutoff. Among those currently joining Busch on the outside are Matt Kenseth, (eight points behind Johnson), Stenhouse (22 points behind) and Jamie McMurray (29 points back).

Busch has finishes of 29th and 27th in the two playoff races this round, so his 41 playoff points maintain him in contention but are not a guarantee to advance past the quarterfinals.

“I don’t know,” Busch said. “We threw away a lot of it last week. If we would have finished last week normal, we would have been fine. … We’ll have to go to Kansas and run good in all the stages and have a good day there to try to make it through.”

According to ESPN, Sunday’s crash occurred because of a miscommunication. Johnson’s spotter heard NASCAR tell the drivers to start their engines, so he told his team to begin working on the car. However, the team was discovered to have worked on the car before the red flag was lifted.

Johnson was scored like all the other cars that couldn’t continue following the wreck — by position of the last completed lap.

“Those points are so valuable,” Johnson said in unsuccessful lobbying for a ruling that he be credited with finishing ahead of any car that was stopped on the track and couldn’t continue.

British cyclist Mark Cavendish has lauded Tour de France jurors for the “courage” they displayed by disqualifying world champion Peter Sagan over a crash that ended Cavendish’s race early on Tuesday.

“It takes a lot of courage to eliminate the world champion from the Tour de France,” Cavendish said Wednesday before the Tour began without him from the spa town of Vittel in Stage 5 in the northeastern part of the nation. He added that the organizers made up “among the most experienced jury that I’ve ever witnessed at the Tour de France.”

The 32-year-old Brit accused 32-year-old Slovakian Sagan of elbowing him during the spring finish to Stage 4. Cavendish collided into the barriers and withdrew early from the race with a broken right shoulder.

Sagan claimed Cavendish surprised him and that he didn’t have enough time to react when the Brit rapidly caught up to him. The Slovak added, however, that he went to check up on his opponent after he learned of his injuries, which also included a profusely bleeding finger on his right hand.

“Mark was coming really fast from the back and I just didn’t have time to react and to go left. He came into me and he went into the fence,” said Sagan. “When I was told after the finish that Mark had crashed, I went straight away to find out how he was doing.”

“We are friends and colleagues in the peloton and crashes like that are never nice. I hope Mark recovers soon.”

Cavendish, who was knocked over along with two other racers, praised his team for helping him recover following the crash.

“There was just a puddle of blood on the floor. I thought, ‘I’m going to bleed to death here,’ ” he said. “But my teammates were around and they helped me to my feet.”

Cavendish previously dislocated his right shoulder on stage one of the Tour de France in Harrogate in 2014.

The Brit — who has won 30 Tour stages throughout his career — said Sagan was gracious in apologizing to him following the race.

“It was an honorable thing to see Peter there at the bus, already come to apologize. It shows our relationship, shows the man he is and I really appreciate that more than anything.”

“I can just accept the decision of the jury, but for sure I do not agree with them because I think I didn’t do something wrong in the sprint,” Sagan told reporters outside his team’s hotel Wednesday morning before leaving to return home.

Sagan attempted to appeal the Tour de France organizers’ decision, but he and his team were ultimately not allowed to do so. The Slovak was attempting to tie German former racer Erik Zabel’s record of six consecutive points classification title victories. He initially remained upright to finish second on the stage before being disqualified.

Enrico Poitschke, head sports director for Sagan’s Bora-Hansgrohe team, forbade the racer’s appeal, saying “It was the wrong decision from the commissaries.”

The Tour race director, Thierry Gouvenou, stated that he supported the jury’s disqualification of Sagan. Gouvenou added that the Slovak was also responsible for a previous crash on Tuesday that knocked over more than a dozen riders in the final stretch.

“Ultimately, there are no attenuating circumstances,” Gouvenou said. “I think they made a good choice.”

“We all complain about the crashes in the first week of the Tour,” he said. “It gets to the point where the riders just have to respect each other.”

Britain’s Geraint Thomas maintained his overall lead as Arnaud Demare became the first Frenchman to win a bunch sprint stage at the Tour since 2006.

Reigning champion Chris Froome, another Brit (born in Kenya), remains second overall — 12 seconds behind Thomas. Froome was also involved in a crash in France a few weeks ago. 

Only Belgian former rider Eddy Merckx boasts more Tour stage victories (34) than Cavendish.

In Wednesday’s Stage 5, Italian Fabio Aru beat three-time Tour de France winner Froome to the top of the first mountain climb of the race.

Dan Martin of the Quickstep team finished second, and Froome was third.

Chris Froome claims he was intentionally struck by a car while training in southern France early Tuesday, though the British Team Sky cyclist added he was not injured.

The three-time Tour de France champion, who will be 32 later this month, tweeted a photo of his damaged bike and called the driver “impatient”, adding that the driver didn’t even stop and that he will report the incident to local authorities.

“Just got rammed on purpose by an impatient driver who followed me onto the pavement!” Froome wrote. “Thankfully I’m okay. Bike totaled. Driver kept going!”

Froome took the picture in Beausoleil, France, which is near his Monaco home.

His bicycle, which is reportedly worth approximately £9,000 (about $11,634) sustained damage to both wheels and its frame.

Froome, who last won the Tour de France in 2016, will hope to win his third straight title when this year’s race begins July 1 in Dusseldorf, Germany, since the first two stages of the competition are held outside of France. The Tour de France will end on July 23.

Should Froome win this year’s event, the Brit will become the fifth cyclist to ever do so four times, joining Jacques Anquetil, Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault and Miguel Indurain.

The Team Sky rider first won the Tour de France in 2013. His crash Tuesday comes after the death of Italian cyclist Michele Scarponi, who was involved in his own collision with a van during a training ride in April.

British cycling legend Mike Hall died early Friday after being hit by a car during the Indian Pacific Wheel race from Perth to Sydney, event officials stated. He was 35.

The rest of the race was called off hours after the incident.

Hall was in second place in the race when his global positioning (GPS) tracker stopped functioning near the scene of where the collision was reported at 6:30 am local time (New South Wales) Friday.

The 5,500-kilometer (3,400-mile) race began on March 18 in Fremantle, Western Australia, south of Perth. Belgian Kristof Allegaert was in the lead, and was set to reach the finish line at the Sydney Opera House on Friday.

However, he and other cyclists were removed from the race following the decision to stop it.

“The Indian Pacific Wheel Race has been cancelled with immediate effect in light of this morning’s tragic incident,” race organizers said in a statement before confirming Hall’s death. “This is a difficult time for everyone involved, along with their families, and their well-being is our primary concern.”

Police stated the accident occurred before sunrise on the Monaro Highway near Williamsdale.

Dozens of other cyclists have taken to social media to pay homage to Hall, for whom race officials said a tribute ride was being planned in Sydney on Sunday.

Mega-triathlete Sean Conway tweeted: “Today is a very very sad day. Cycling has lost a legend. Ride in Peace Mike Hall. We’ll miss you so much.”

Presenter Jack Thurston said: “Awful news about Mike Hall, killed in IPWR. A wise, kind and sparky man and an exceptional cyclist. Much loved & an inspiration to so many.”

Hall complained on Twitter last week about cars passing the race too quickly.

“I’m fine thanks to those asking, you can add about half a dozen close fast passes since last night though unfortunately,” he said on Sunday. “Riders will want to be alert when entering this area, don’t hug the shoulder, give yourself somewhere to bail to.”

The CyclingTips website said on Friday that Hall was considered one of the world’s top ultra-endurance riders, and held the record for the fastest completion of the Trans-Am and Tour Divide bike-packing races in the United States. He was the founder of the Transcontinental race in Europe.

Over £15,000 ($18,800) has already been raised on Just Giving to help Hall’s family.

Alex Zanardi, a former Formula 1 driver, repeated as Paralympic hand-cycling time trial gold medalist on Wednesday, just one day before the 15-year anniversary of the horrific car crash in which he lost both his legs.

The 49-year-old Italian, who won two gold medals at London 2012, prevailed out of a 10-man field in 28 minutes, 36.81 seconds, covering the 20km course in Rio de Janeiro. He won by 2.74 seconds, making up 20 seconds after the 10km split.

“Normally I don’t thank God for these type of things as I believe God has more important stuff to worry about, but today is too much, I had to raise my eyes and thank him,” Zanardi said. “I feel very lucky, I feel my life is a never-ending privilege.”

Zanardi previously won the New York City Marathon, as well as the 2014 Ironman World Championships. He began competing in hand-cycling in 2009.

The 1997 and 1998 CART series champion lost both his legs in the American Memorial 500 CART race at Lausitz, Germany, on Sept. 15, 2001– one of the most frightening accidents in auto-racing history.

Zanardi stated he went 50 minutes with less than one liter of blood, and his heart stopped beating seven times.

“At the time I was asked if I would ever step back in a race car, but what was very important for me was to go into the bathroom and pee on my own, but I could not do that. I had to be helped,” Zanardi said. “That was my No. 1 priority. Day by day I managed to regain control and strength, regain some confidence and concentrate on different things and here I am now.”

Australia’s Stuart Tripp won silver in Wednesday’s race, finishing less than three seconds behind Zanardi.

“Where today you have the Olympic Stadium, on that piece of land they used to have an IndyCar circuit, which is where I won my very first pole position – for a romantic guy like me this is quite special,” added Zanardi.

He took to Twitter to thank his fans following his gold-medal win on Wednesday:

The Italian will attempt to repeat as Paralympic road race champion in his class on Thursday.

The Rio 2016 Paralympic Games began on Sept. 7, and will conclude on Sunday, Sept. 18. They follow the Rio 2016 Olympics, which finished on Aug. 21.

British cyclist Chris Froome was forced to run without a bike following a crash with a motorbike on one of the most iconic climbs of the Tour de France on Thursday.

Froome, 31, crashed with Australian Richie Porte and Dutchman Bauke Mollema just over one kilometer (0.6 miles) from the finish on Mont Ventoux in Provence, France.

The defending champion was overtaken by rivals Adam Yates and Nairo Quintana in the melee, although organizers ruled that Froome should retain the overall lead.

Belgian Thomas de Gendt won stage 12, which had been shortened due to high winds.

As Froome climbed towards the finish line at Chalet Reynard, Porte rode into the back of a motorbike, which seemed to stop suddenly because of crowds encroaching on to the road.

Froome and Bauke Mollema crashed into Porte and all three fell off their bikes.

With his bike damaged, Froome continued on foot as he waited for a replacement.

According to the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), cycling’s governing body, a cyclist can cross the line on foot but only if he/she has his/her bike with them.

Froome attempted to use a neutral service bike before switching to a third bike from the Team Sky car approximately 200 meters later, eventually crossing the line shaking his head.

Speaking to French TV, the 2013 and 2015 champion said: “I was with Richie Porte and Bauke Mollema and all three of us went into the back of the motorbike. I got hit from behind by another motorbike that broke my bicycle.”

He then continued: “I told myself, ‘I don’t have a bike and my car is five minutes behind with another bike – it’s too far away, I’m going to run a bit’.”

Froome finished one minute and 40 seconds behind Mollema of team Trek-Segafredo, who had immediately managed to remount his bike, and 44 seconds behind BMC’s Porte.

However, Porte and Frome were given the same time as Mollema, five minutes five seconds behind Lotto Soudal rider De Gendt.

“I’m happy with the jury’s decision,” Froome added. “I think it’s right. Thanks to them and thanks to the Tour de France organization.”

Mollema, 29, tweeted a picture of the crash and said: “This may NOT happen in the biggest race of the world! There has been too many accidents with motos last year!”

“The crowd were all over the road and it was such a mess,” added Porte, 31. “It was just crazy.”

It remains unclear whether the motorcycle Porte collided with stopped because of spectators stepping into its path.

However, over-zealous fans have already caused problems on this year’s Tour, with Froome fined 200 Swiss Francs ($204) for lashing out at an encroaching fan on stage eight.

There have been regular calls from both riders and organizers for spectators to respect the space of cyclists more.

Among riders, there was anger aimed at some of those who had come to watch the race as well as Tour officials.

Spanish McLaren Driver Fernando Alonso has been ruled out of this upcoming weekend’s Bahrain Grand Prix as a result of the injuries he sustained during the Australian Formula One Grand Prix in Melbourne on March 20.

The former World Champion will be replaced by Beglian McLaren third driver Stoffel Vandoorne for the rest of the weekend.

Following the accident, Alonso, 34, complained of a swollen knee and sore ribs. He was ruled out because of the latter after an FIA medical examination in Bahrain on Thursday. The Spaniard missed the Australian GP due to his Barcelona testing accident.

An FIA statement said: “Following an examination undertaken this morning at the Bahrain International Circuit Medical Centre, it has been decided that McLaren Honda F1 Team driver Fernando Alonso should not take part in this weekend’s Bahrain Grand Prix. Two sets of chest CT scans were compared and it was decided on safety grounds that there was insufficient resolution of the signs to allow him to compete on safety grounds.”

It added: “A repeat chest scan has been requested before the Chinese Grand Prix and the results will be considered before allowing him to race there.”

Shortly after getting the news of his debut in Bahrain, Vandoorne, 24, said the following on Twitter:

“I respect the decision,” Alonso commented. “I tried until the last moment to be able to race, at least to try in the practice. It has been some painful days at home. I was ready to go through this pain somehow in the car and make sure I could race, because at the end of the day the pain is manageable if you don’t think too much probably.”
