LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - DECEMBER 14: UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman (L) punches Colby Covington in their welterweight title fight during UFC 245 at T-Mobile Arena on December 14, 2019 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Usman retained his title with a fifth-round TKO.

Leon Edwards does not think Colby Covington is worth another title shot as the two exchange verbal blows.

It appeared regardless of who won Saturday’s Welterweight title that the UFC was setting up Colby Covington to challenge the winner.

The 35-year-old even made weight as the backup fighter if either one of Kamaru Usman or Edwards had to pull out of the main event.

However, Edwards is having none of it.

“I definitely have a say and he ain’t getting the title shot next fight,” Edwards said on The Mixed Martial Arts Hour with Ariel Helwani.

“Look at the road I had to take to get there. No way you’re getting beat twice by the guy I just beat twice. [He] went out there and beat Masvidal and then sits out for a year and a half.”

Covington has so far gotten two shots at Usman, losing by technical knockout (TKO) and unanimous decision.

Edwards, meanwhile, is 2-1 against Usman in the UFC, representing 66% of the Nigerian native’s losses in the UFC.

And Convington fired back by saying Edwards would get “stripped” of his Welterweight title if he refuses to fight him.

“You’re not Conor McGregor, bro,” he told Mike Heck of MMA Fighting.

“You don’t get to call the shots, dude. You’re a nobody, dude.”

It’s a fight that UFC president Dana White wants and he even confirmed to reporters after Edwards’ win on Saturday that Convington would be next.

However, it remains to be seen who will get their way.

While Edwards, also known as “Rocky” in the octagon, deserves some respect after taking down Usman twice, he only has one belt defense and it will be a tough battle to win depending on how badly the UFC wants to make the fight.

Covington gave Edwards advice by stating, “You don’t cross your boss.”

But if Edwards does get his way – there are a few good fights that the UFC can still make for him.

This includes Gilbert Burns, and Belal Muhammad, as well as rising undefeated stars in Shavkat Rakhmonov and Khamzat Chimaev, who might be middleweight bound instead.

On the heels of his confrontation with Colby Covington, Jorge Masvidal has pleaded not guilty to a felony charge of aggravated battery with a mask and another felony count of criminal mischief.

He’s due back in court for a hearing on April 21 after he posted a $15,000 bond early Thursday morning. The 37-year-old UFCer was booked in a Miami jail around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Video from the incident shows Covington, 34, saying: “He’s over here swinging, trying to come at me, and I ran … How would he know I’m here?”

The victim, an unidentified man, told police that he was sucker-punched twice—in the mouth and the left eye—by Masvidal while walking away from a restaurant prior to 11 p.m. During the attack, Masvidal allegedly said, “You shouldn’t have been talking about my kids.” Similar claims have been made by Masvidal on social media before.

The victim sustained a fractured left tooth and an abrasion to his left wrist. He was able to ID the fighter, who was wearing a mask, due to his hair, voice, and what could be seen of his face.

You think you had a bad weekend? At least you didn’t lose more than a quarter of a million dollars like Drake did.

The singer wagered $275,000 on Jorge Masvidal in UFC 272’s main event Saturday. Squaring off against Colby Covington, Masvidal lost by unanimous decision.

Nobody likes a sore winner, but Covington still taunted Drake after the fight, saying, “Let’s talk about all the money that Drake lost tonight. He needs to go back to selling those s**tty albums to get back the money.

“Drake, you suck at sports betting. Go back to your s**tty little albums and rapping.”

Had the outcome been reversed, Drake would’ve netted $1 million.

“He’s a bitch,” Masvidal said of his opponent after the fight. “The bitch can wrestle, though.”

Kamaru Usman is coming off an impressive UFC welterweight title defense against the outspoken Colby Covington this past Saturday. A couple hours after the fight was over, Conor McGregor tweeted, “145. 155. 170.”

This was in reference to the Irishman’s achievement of winning title belts in the featherweight (145 lb.) and lightweight (155 lb.) divisions. The “170” or welterweight belt hasn’t been held by McGregor, but the former champion seemed to foreshadow his intentions.

Usman was aware of the tweet and told TMZ on Monday, “He must want to die. This is not ’45, ’55. You saw what Khabib [Nurmagomedov] did to him. Oh my God. It wouldn’t be fair if I fought Conor. Much respect to Conor for what he’s done for the sport and transcended it. But nah. This ain’t what you want. Just sit down, little man. Sit down. Learn to walk before you can run. Because I would hurt that guy.”

Usman defeated Covington on Saturday via TKO in the fifth round at UFC 245 in Las Vegas for his 15th consecutive win. It was a very close fight going into the final round, but Covington was fighting with a broken jaw that he sustained in the third round and could not recover.

“The Nigerian nightmare” looked very impressive in the fight landing 48% of his total strikes, compared to Covington’s 36%. Usman didn’t make mistakes and never needed his wrestling background to bring the match to the mat. His striking skills looked better than ever, and he never shot aggressively or put himself in harm’s way.

When asked in the post-fight press conference if he wanted to fight Jorge Masvidal next, Usman replied, “Eh. Man, there’s a lot of tough guys in the division. I mean let’s be honest, if you’re talking about someone who’s deserving, Leon Edwards hasn’t lost since he fought me. He’s been finishing guys and he’s now found himself in the position I found myself in a little over a year ago.”

UFC President Dana White, on the other hand, has different plans for the welterweight champion. “It’s massive,” White said about a possible matchup with Masvidal. “The Masvidal fight versus Usman, it’s a big deal. He fought (Nate) Diaz for the ‘BMF’ belt and now to fight for the actual title against the guy who’s tough as nails, it’s fun.”

This will most likely be the next fight for Usman, but he told TMZ, “If I had to choose, of course I want Georges. I want GSP. One more win and I tie him for the most consecutive wins. How sweet would that be to actually get that win off of him?”

Georges St-Pierre is a former champion who won 12 consecutive fights in the welterweight division from 2007 to 2013. However, he hasn’t fought since he came out of retirement to defeat Michael Bisping for the UFC middleweight title in 2017.

St-Pierre currently trains at the Tristar Gym in Montreal, but is formally retired and has removed himself from the UFC’s USADA-led drug-testing pool. In order to make a second comeback he would have to re-join the pool and be tested for six months prior to competition. His preference was to fight Khabib, but the UFC didn’t really agree with the idea.

Usman claimed, “I think it’s a big, big, big fight. All due respect to Georges, but I think I finish him.”
