2025 can be considered a season of improvement for the rebuilding White Sox, who finished 60-102. While this is not a good record, it was a big deal because they finished with the worst record in recent memory in 2024 – the White Sox finished 41-121. Chicago went on a 21-game losing streak in the 2024 season, tying the 1988 Baltimore Orioles for the MLB record for the longest losing streak.

Despite the improvement in the record, the offense batted .232 overall, and the pitching staff recorded a 4.26 ERA. These stats weren’t great, but they were an improvement over 2024 — the White Sox batted .221 and recorded a 4.67 ERA that season. 2025’s stats placed Chicago 27th in batting average and 20th in ERA.

Lenyn Sosa led the offense with 137 hits, 22 home runs and 75 RBIs on a .264 batting average. Rookie shortstop Colson Montgomery maintained a .239 batting average and hit 21 home runs in his first major league season. Shane Smith pitched over 146 innings, surrendering 70 runs and striking out 145 batters on a 3.81 ERA.

The biggest transaction of the team’s offseason was Munetaka Murakami’s two-year deal. Murakami came to the Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) Tokyo Yakult Swallows after spending seven seasons with the team. The Kumamoto, Japan native won the Central League MVP award twice, a Triple Crown and was named an NPB all-star four times. Murakami also contributed to Japan’s 2023 World Baseball Classic win — he hit a walk-off two-run double to defeat Mexico in the Semifinals and hit a home run off Team USA pitcher Merrill Kelly to help Team Japan win the championship.

In November, Carlos Rodriguez was named assistant general manager, and Jose Leger was hired as the first-base and outfield coach.

Luis Robert Jr. was traded to the New York Mets in January in exchange for prospects Luisangel Acuña and Truman Pauley. Pitcher Seranthony Domínguez signed a two-year deal on January 29th, while Ex-Orioles outfielder Austin Hays signed a one-year contract on February 4th – Erick Fedde signed prior to spring training.

One can’t expect much from this roster heading into 2026, as the rebuild is still ongoing. There is optimism if the team’s stats continue to improve on both sides and if Murakami and Montgomery rise up to the occasion. The White Sox added pieces that could help them become competitive in each game and aid their future outlook; however, the team is still far from the top.

DraftKings lists the White Sox at +2200 to make the playoffs and +40000 to win the World Series.

The Chicago White Sox are in last place in the AL Central, and 17½ games back from a wild-card spot in the American League.

Chicago finished the 2024 season with a 41-121 record, the worst in the MLB. The White Sox became the second team in modern MLB history to lose 120 games, joining the 1962 New York Mets.

In the offseason, the White Sox signed a handful of veterans in an effort to field a more competitive roster.

Chicago signed starting pitcher Martin Perez, third baseman Josh Rojas, right fielder Mike Tauchman and outfielder Michael A. Taylor.

Perez appeared to be a great signing, but in only four games, he went on the injured list with a left flexor strain. He most recently had a rehab start on August 3 in Triple-A.

The White Sox also traded ace Garrett Crochet to the Boston Red Sox for four prospects.

This season, Chicago’s offense has been one of the worst in baseball, led by Lenyn Sosa, Chase Meridroth and Kyle Teel, who was called up to the big leagues in early June.

The White Sox have the second-worst batting average, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage in baseball. Chicago is also in the bottom five for home runs and RBIs.

Chicago’s pitching has also struggled this season, led by Aaron Civale and Davis Martin.

Chicago is in the bottom three for strikeouts, and the bottom 10 for batting average allowed, walks and hits per inning pitched (WHIP). The White Sox are also in the bottom half of the league for ERA, but are in the top half of the league for preventing home runs.

At the trade deadline, Chicago traded starting pitcher Adrian Houser to the Tampa Bay Rays and left fielder Austin Slater to the New York Yankees.

Houser was the most consistent pitcher for the White Sox this season, with an ERA of 2.54 and a WHIP of 1.29.

Despite being one of the worst teams in baseball this season, Chicago already has more wins than it did in the previous season, which is a step in the right direction.

The White Sox won’t be contending this season, but if the organization can develop talent and continue to acquire prospects, Chicago could be a contender down the road.

The Colorado Rockies won just eight of their first 50 games.

It’s the worst 50-game start to an MLB season in the modern era, going back to 1901. That’s bad enough on its own. But to put it into context, the 2024 Chicago White Sox, who compiled the worst record in modern MLB history, started out 15-35. That team piled up 121 losses. Through 50 games, the Rockies were on track for 136.

In the four following games, the Rockies were able to pick up a win against the high-powered New York Yankees, no less before dropping the next three. At 9-45, Colorado is now proudly on track for 27 wins.

Yes, the Rockies are terrible. The numbers concur: they allow 6.46 runs per game, the most in MLB, score the second-fewest, at 3.28, are struck out the most and strike out the fewest batters. In fact, they’re so astonishingly bad that this season is raising questions for MLB, baseball fans and bookmakers alike.

Colorado hasn’t made the playoffs since 2018, and doesn’t seem to be showing any urgent desire to do so. The Rockies continuously place in the top half of MLB in terms of attendance, largely owing to affordable tickets and concessions not to mention the presence of opposing fans. And their top-paid player, Kris Bryant, has played just 170 games since the beginning of the 2022 season due to injury.

Unless attendance sees a significant drop, what’s the motivation for ownership to spend on talent? The absence of a salary floor means no penalties for underspending teams, and the Rockies seem to stay afloat regardless of the team’s actual performance.

That logic has led to fan calls to “sell the team,” targeting the Monfort family as primary owners.

Meanwhile, sportsbooks are facing a crisis as bettors hammer the under for Colorado runs, the over for the opposing team, and always bet on the opposition.

“Teams playing the Rockies are regularly among the most-bet MLB teams of the day on both the moneyline and run line, so the rare Rockies win is something of a bright spot,” said ESPN BET director of North American sports trading Adrian Horton. “However, those wins don’t outweigh the good days for bettors taking whoever is playing against Colorado.”

In essence, sportsbooks are paying through the nose every time the Rockies lose, and especially when they lose badly. The problem is that both of those things are happening all the time.

“We have to just weather this storm,” said DraftKings head of sportsbook Johnny Avello. “We can adjust prices, but we just have to wait for a time when maybe they get on track a little bit and win a few games.”

For now, though, eight of the Rockies’ next 11 games are against either the Chicago Cubs or the New York Mets, which are currently both sitting at 33-21. Put another way, both teams have won 24 more games than the Rockies this season. It might be a while until Colorado starts to win again, if they ever do. In the meantime, concerns will continue.

A chaotic spiral came to an end last week as the Chicago White Sox prevailed over the Oakland Athletics 5-1 to end their 21-game losing streak and move to 28-88 on the year. Their 21-game skid tied the 1988 Baltimore Orioles while falling two games shy of the 1961 Philadelphia Phillies, who lost 23 consecutive games. The record belongs to the 1889 Louisville Colonels, who lost 26 straight in a 27-111 season.

Jonathan Cannon was credited with the win as he gave up an earned run while striking out five in six innings. Andrew Benintendi hit a two-run homer, in addition to Andrew Vaughn and Lenyn Sosa hit RBI singles to contribute to the win. The outfielder’s score-opening blast marked Chicago’s first lead since July 30.

“You go out there and you try to win every game. And when you do, it feels good,” reliever John Brebbia said. “It was nice to stand out there and shake hands with everyone because we got a W.”

Manager Pedro Grifol was fired as a result of the White Sox’ struggles. Chicago is on pace to finish 39-122, which would be the MLB’s worst record since the 1899 Cleveland Spiders, who finished 20-134.

Oakland played along with the streak by blaring Taylor Swift‘s “22” over the loudspeakers to taunt Chicago before losing. “They pitched well,” Oakland skipper Mark Kotsay said. “We only scored one run, so they deserved to win the game. They played a good, clean game and we didn’t generate any offense.”

“I think it’s all just a sigh of relief,” Cannon remarked. “We’re all major league players, we’ve got a lot of confidence in ourselves to go out and do our jobs every night.” Prior to Tuesday night, the White Sox haven’t won since July 10 in the first game of a doubleheader against the Minnesota Twins.

The Chicago White Sox are making history with a 17-game losing streak, holding the worst record in Major League Baseball. With the product on the field falling apart, the White Sox were in sell mode at the July 30 trade deadline. They moved OF Eloy Jimenez, who has been with the team for six years, to the Baltimore Orioles. But, surprisingly, they held left-handed pitcher Garrett Crochet, who seemed like a sure thing to get moved just two weeks ago.

The 25-year-old has already surpassed 150 strikeouts by August 1, as his fifth season in the MLB becomes his breakout year. Most teams, including the Los Angeles Dodgers, looked for starting pitching at the deadline. But he made demands that forced the White Sox to hold him and scared opposing teams away.

Crochet has already thrown 114 innings this season, which is by far the most in his career. He underwent Tommy John surgery in 2022. John Heyman reported that he would only pitch in the postseason as a starter if he earned a contract extension or would shut himself down. Some teams wanted to use Crochet out of the bullpen, but he also stated he would not come out as a reliever.

Crochet made just $800,000 in 2024 and is arbitration-eligible for the next two seasons before becoming an unrestricted free agent in 2027.

White Sox general manager Chris Getz made his feelings known to ESPN leading up to the deadline and did not seem happy.

“The communication had been very strong between Garrett and I and his agency. I was a little surprised and taken aback by how they went about it, considering I had a conversation with his agent the night before. That’s not exactly the tactic I would have taken, being a former player,” Getz said. “We understand why a stance would be taken like that. How you go about expressing that, was a bit hurtful, quite honestly, considering we could have handled it a little bit differently and still accomplish what everyone wanted to accomplish.”

With the White Sox out of postseason contention, Crochet may shut down before the season concludes.

The Cardinals, Dodgers and White Sox made huge moves this week with a three-team trade that sent Erick Fedde to St. Louis and Tommy Edman to Los Angeles.

Tommy Pham was sent to the Cardinals while Michael Kopech joined Edman with the Dodgers. Chicago received Miguel VargasJeral Perez, Alexander Albertus and a player to be named later.

St. Louis received a boost to their rotation as Fedde has a 3.11 ERA while giving up only one unearned run in over 121 innings pitched this season –Fedde is expected to debut at Wrigley Field soon. The other bonus is that the ex-White Sox is on a reasonable contract, as he is on a two-year deal, worth $7.5 million a season. Pham will return to his former team to give a jolt to the offense as he’s batting .266 with five home runs and 19 RBI.

Despite Edman being on a minor-league rehab assignment, the Dodgers got excellent value in a utility player as the switch hitter averaged 14 home runs, 33 doubles and 29 stolen bases per 162 games played across a five-season stretch. In addition, he can play at numerous positions including shortstop, center field and second base – Edman won a gold glove with the Cards in 2021 playing second base. Kopech aims to aid the Dodgers’ bullpen as he has nine saves, a 4.74 ERA and 59 strikeouts in 43 2/3 innings.

The White Sox, on the other hand, are continuing a downward spiral as they lost 16 games in a row following Tuesday’s game against the Royals, after the trade went down Monday. “I think this helps us long term,” skipper Pedro Grifol said. “It doesn’t necessarily help us short term. We’ve got to continue the process.” The Sox called up Dominic FletcherSammy Peralta and Touki Toussaint to fill the vacancies left by Fedde and Kopech.

Veteran outfielder Tommy Pham reached a minor-league deal with the Chicago White Sox worth $3.5 million with $1.5 million in incentives. Pham must be called up and added to the White Sox MLB roster by April 25, or he can request a release. If traded, he will receive a $500,000 assignment bonus.

Pham is out of options to sign with another team straight up, so the minor-league designation is necessary. He will first need to pass through waivers to be in the minor leagues before stepping up to the plate in the MLB. This way, Pham can get back into the game despite missing the season’s first few weeks and avoid roster complications.

Pham, 36, began his career in 2014 with the St. Louis Cardinals and spent five years there before spending time with the Tampa Bay Rays, San Diego Padres, Boston Red Sox, Cincinnati Reds, New York Mets, and most recently with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Pham had his most productive season in years in 2023. He hit .256/.328/.446 (111 OPS+) with 16 home runs and 68 RBIs in 129 games split between the Mets and Diamondbacks.

Entering the offseason, CBS ranked him as the 34th-best free agent available.

“Two things are certain about Pham: He’s going to hit the ball hard, and he’s going to wear out the middle of the field,” it said. “Nearly half his batted balls last season clocked in at 95 mph or faster, and more than 40% were aimed straight ahead. That combination resulted in Pham’s best OPS+ since 2019 when he was a member of the Rays. He’s played for five teams during the interim years, suggesting that if there’s a third thing for sure about him, he will continue changing clubhouses.”

With the White Sox currently missing outfielders Luis Robert Jr. and Eloy Jiménez, Pham is expected to give their lineup a much-needed boost. The Sox have started the season slow and currently hold a 3-15 record. They were shut out six times in 18 games. Thus, it’s fair to think that Pham might change teams again ahead of the trade deadline, provided he can offer that boost to the lineup for the White Sox over the next few months.

Pitcher Erick Fedde and the Chicago White Sox have agreed to a two-year deal worth $15 million.

The deal sees Fedde return to the MLB following a one-year stint in South Korea playing for the NC Dinos, where he was named KBO League MVP. The season saw Fedde go 20-6 with a 2.00 ERA and 209 strikeouts against 35 walks in 180 innings.

Before his time with the NC Dinos, Fedde was a part of the Washington Nationals bullpen from 2017 to 2022.

Fedde’s signing is part of an overall roster overhaul under the control of general manager Chris Getz.

The Chicago White Sox organization has pushed back against claims made by pitcher Keynan Middleton that the team runs with “no rules.” Middleton was recently traded to the Yankees and accused Chicago of being disorganized after pitching two innings against the Astros Sunday.

“We came in with no rules,” Middleton said. “I don’t know how you police the culture if there are no rules or guidelines to follow because everyone is doing their own thing. Like, how do you say anything about it because there are no rules? You have rookies sleeping in the bullpen during the game. You have guys missing meetings. You have guys missing PFPs (pitcher fielding practices), and there are no consequences for any of this stuff.”

White Sox general manager Rick Hahn swiftly pushed back against Middleton’s comments Monday. Despite multiple sources corroborating many of Middleton’s claims, Hahn said that specific accounts concerning the team’s dysfunction were inaccurate.

“I was surprised to see the report this morning,” Hahn said. “At no point during the course of the year had there been a reliever sleeping in the bullpen during that game. That’s just wrong.”

Hahn went on to say that disciplinary actions for players were taken but kept private, as is typical of many MLB clubhouses. The general manager then accused Middleton of misconduct before leaving for New York.

“Quite frankly, it’s a little bit ironic that Keynan’s the one saying this, because my last conversation with him face-to-face was a week ago in the clubhouse where he sought me out to apologize for his unprofessional behavior Pedro (Grifol) had called him out on,” Hahn said. “At the time I figured that was a one-off.”

Manager Pedro Grifol, who Hahn referenced in his comments about Middleton, also addressed the pitcher’s claims Monday. While he did not deny anything that Middleton said, he took a more positive stance on the team’s culture since he arrived in the off-season.

“I’ve been talking about culture here since day one and brought it up again about three or four weeks ago,” Grifol said. “I feel like we’re not even close to where we need to be, but we’re heading in the right direction.”

The White Sox currently have a 46-68 record and will likely miss the playoffs for the second straight season. The team made the postseason in 2020 and 2021 but only managed to go 81-81 for former manager Tony La Russa last year before his departure.

New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone was ejected from Monday’s game against the Chicago White Sox after complaining about a number of strike calls from umpire Laz Diaz. With six ejections on the season, Boone is tied for most in MLB this season and is on pace to break his league-leading nine ejections in 2022.

The incident occurred in the top of the eighth inning after shortstop Anthony Volpe struck out looking. During his argument with Diaz, which included a number of expletives before and after the ejection, Boone marked areas in the left-handed batter’s box, seemingly to note particularly egregious strike calls.

“You f–-king stink,” Boone yelled during a part of the dispute picked up on the broadcast.

In addition to marking the batter’s box during his rant, Boone also imitated Diaz’s strikeout call in an animated fashion. While a review of Volpe’s at-bat showed that the pitch Boone argued was, in fact, a strike, Umpire Scorecards also concluded that Diaz made several calls throughout the game that significantly hurt the Yankees. He only called strikes with 66% accuracy throughout the contest.

Though the Yankees were hindered by poor umpiring, the team also had several opportunities to score and failed to do so. New York went quietly to the White Sox, now 46-68 this season, and fell even further in the Wild Card standings. With a 58-55 record, the Yankees are last in the AL East and are 5.5 games out of a playoff spot.

When Aaron Judge returned from injury last month, some hoped that his presence would revitalize the offense, but that has not occurred. The team has scored 4.1 runs per game on average since July 15, well below the top scorers over the course of the entire season. In that span, New York has only scored more than seven runs five times and lost two of those games.

The MLB announced suspensions and fines to White Sox’s Tim Anderson, six games, and Guardians’ José Ramírez, three games, after their brawl Saturday night.

Managers Terry Francona of the Guardians and Pedro Grifol of the White Sox, and Guardians third base coach Mike Sarbaugh have been suspended for one game. Cleveland pitcher Emmanuel Clase also got a one-game suspension for his role in the fight.

Along with the suspensions, added undisclosed fines are being charged. Two other players are being fined but not suspended, White Sox pitcher Michael Kopech and Guardians shortstop Gabriel Arias. Both Chicagos’ Anderson and Clevelands’ Ramírez will appeal for their skirmish but the others will serve their one-game suspension immediately.

At Progressive Field in Cleveland, punches were thrown by Anderson and Ramírez after a tag play, as words were exchanged at second base. The All-star third baseman slid between Anderson’s legs, and after pointing at his head, the two 30-year-olds began to square off.

“He said he wanted to fight,” Ramírez told reporters after the game. “And if he wanted to fight, I had to defend myself.”

The two were jawing for a few minutes while the bullpens of both teams emptied prior to punches being thrown.

“I’m not sure I know everything,” Francona said about the brawl. “Before it started, I know Anderson was yelling at (Gabriel) Arias – I think the umpire went and told him to knock it off – and then when José slid into second, I think José felt like he kind of stood over him. Then things got away from everybody.”

All those involved were ejected from the game, including the names suspended. For reference on previous suspensions due to fighting, Rougned Odor was suspended eight games (reduced to seven after appeal) for punching José Bautista back in 2016. Odor was a part of the Texas Rangers and Bautista was on the Toronto Blue Jays at the time. The suspensions given to Anderson and Ramírez are likely to be one less game but if not, aren’t as bad as some previous cases.

“I’m going to let MLB figure this out. They have some work to do,” Grifol said following the game. He added Anderson, who did not speak to reporters after the game, was not hurt in the brawl, even though he did take a swing to the head by Ramírez.

For Cleveland, the result of their suspensions from the swings take on the field is worse for them, compared to Chicago, since the Guardians have a playoff spot on the line. Lacking score-getters, the Guardians not having Ramírez for any period of time hurts them the most over the White Sox not having Anderson.

Cleveland was no-hit earlier in the week by the Houston Astros and was being no-hit by Kopech into the sixth inning Saturday. With their star first baseman Josh Naylor out for a few weeks due to an oblique strain, the Guardians will need some help with both their two best players out for a while.

The White Sox won their series over the Guardians 2-1 over the weekend. Chicago won that game with the brawl 7-4, but are out of contention at 45-68 and ranked fourth in the AL Central. Cleveland is second in the AL Central at 54-58 and fourth and a half games back behind the first-place Minnesota Twins.

Chicago White Sox relief pitcher Liam Hendriks underwent Tommy John surgery Wednesday, ending his 2023 season. Hendriks made just five appearances for the team, earning one save.

Hendriks returned to the majors in late May just four months after he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, one of the most common types of cancer. He received a standing ovation from White Sox fans in his first appearance against the Los Angeles Angels.

“These past 5 months have been both the quickest and slowest of my life,” Hendriks said in a post on Instagram after he was diagnosed cancer-free. “Being able to ring this victory bell has been one of the most emotional things I’ve ever done. I cannot thank my team of doctors and nurses enough for coming up with the best medical plan for me. No words can express the gratitude I have for them saving my life.”

Hendriks could not contribute to the White Sox bullpen for long as he went to the injured list in June with arm pain. His fastball lacked its usual velocity, a clear sign of significant strain. At age 34, it is likely that Chicago will extend Hendriks, making him a free agent at the end of the season.

Since his debut with the Minnesota Twins in 2011, Hendriks became an increasingly reliable reliever, first on the Blue Jays and then the Athletics. In 2019, he became Oakland’s closer, earned 25 saves and made it to his first All-Star Game. He received the honor two more times with the White Sox in 2021 and 2022, when he earned 38 and 37 saves, respectively.

It is unlikely that Hendriks could have guided the White Sox, now 43-67, to the postseason singlehandedly, but his unceremonious exit is yet another hit to morale for the struggling franchise. Though it’s certainly possible that Hendriks lands on a team in 2024, he ends his 13th season in MLB with 116 career saves and a 3.82 ERA.

After earning a rare save for the Chicago White Sox in a 6-4 win Wednesday, relief pitcher Keynan Middleton had some choices words for Minnesota Twins shortstop Carlos Correa, who he struck out to end the game.

“I knew I was going to face Correa, and I don’t like him. So it was kind of cool,” Middleton told reporters. “I like that. I enjoyed that a lot. … I mean, he’s a cheater.”

Middleton has not earned a save since his days as a Seattle Mariner in 2021, but has maintained a lengthy career in the major leagues dating back to 2017. Like many MLB players, he clearly still holds ill will toward members of the 2017 Houston Astros, who won the World Series before getting exposed for a sign-stealing scandal which allegedly improved their performance at home games dramatically.

Correa was never identified as a key member of the sign stealing scheme, as all Astros players were granted immunity as part of MLB’s investigation. Nevertheless, he was a very prominent player on the team who benefitted from advance knowledge of the pitches being thrown. Opponents in subsequent seasons have found numerous ways to retaliate against 2017 Astros players, but Middleton’s approach was more direct and resulted in a run for the White Sox.

After losing 10 straight games between April 19 and April 29, the team has now won three straight in games against the Rays and Twins. Middleton pitched in back-to-back games on May 2 and 3, throwing 2.1 scoreless innings combined and helping the team win close games against Minnesota.

White Sox manager Pedro Grifol said that he didn’t hesitate to give Middleton the save opportunity on no days’ rest. The reliever has gotten more chances late in games recently as Liam Hendriks completes his cancer recovery while Reynaldo Lopez recovers from a minor setback.

“This guy is a gamer,” Grifol said after the game. “He’s been through it before and I felt comfortable with him in that situation.”

The MLB has suspended New York Yankee’s third baseman Josh Donaldson for one game for his “inappropriate” comments towards Chicago White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson. According to reports, Donaldson referred to Anderson as “Jackie” during the first inning of the Yankees-White Sox matchup on May 21. Donaldson, who is white, said the comment was a reference to a 2019 Sports Illustrated article in which Anderson, who is black, referred to himself as “today’s Jackie Robinson.” Donaldson faced immediate backlash for the comments, with White Sock manager Tony La Russa calling the comments “racist.”

MLB Senior VP for on-field operations, Michael Hill said in a statement, “There is no dispute over what was said on the field. Regardless of Mr. Donaldson’s intent, the comment he directed toward Mr. Anderson was disrespectful and in poor judgment, particularly when viewed in the context of their prior interactions. In addition, Mr. Donaldson’s remark was a contributing factor in a bench-clearing incident between the teams, and warrants discipline.”

Donaldson has continuously rejected any claims of malicious intent with his comments, stating that he has joked about the reference in the past with Anderson. Anderson however voiced his displeasure at the comments in a post-game presser. “I wasn’t really going to bother nobody today, but he made the comment and you know it was disrespectful and I don’t think it was called for. It was unnecessary,” he remarked to the media. Donaldson and Anderson have a hostile history, however. As recently as May 13, benches cleared after Anderson appeared to shove Donaldson after a hard tag. Donaldson said that he was “trying to defuse” any lingering tension when the players crossed paths early in the game when the comment was made. Additionally, the White Sox have gotten into altercations in the past involving the third baseman.

The former AL-MVP says he plans to appeal the suspension, but many pundits around the league believe that one game isn’t enough. White Sox pitching coach, Ethan Kantz, took to Twitter to voice his displeasure at the “ridiculousness” of it all. Kantz, in a now-deleted tweet, expressed, “Just one game. We all saw his malice at third a week ago, then this comment with the ridiculous excuse that followed. What’s the point or message behind a 1 game suspension? This is incredibly disappointing and plain frustrating.”

However, Yankees manager Aaron Boone says he disagrees with the league’s decision, saying that the incident did not warrant a suspension. As of now, Donaldson remains on the Covid-19 injured list and will serve his suspension once the appeals process is over.

The injury bug seems to be lingering, though, as the ChiSox’ third baseman Yoan Moncada is expected to miss the first three weeks of the season (right oblique). The club is also dealing with injuries to righties Ryan Burr (right shoulder), Joe Kelly (right biceps) and Lance Lynn (right knee surgery), lefty Garrett Crochet (left elbow surgery) and outfielder Yermin Mercedes (left wrist).

The Sox will open the 2022 season with three games in Detroit followed by three-game home series against the Mariners and then Rays. They’ll begin the second half with three games at home against the Cleveland Guardians and close out the campaign with three at home against the Twins.

Tony La Russa has his work cut out for him as he tries to become the first manager to win a World Series with three different teams.

On Wednesday, the Chicago White Sox announced that 1983 American League Cy Young Award winner and former White Sox hurler LaMarr Hoyt passed away. After battling cancer, the pitcher died Monday in his hometown of Columbia, South Carolina. He was 66 years old.

Over his eight-year career in the major leagues, Hoyt posted a 98-68 record and a 3.99 ERA. Not only that, he accumulated 48 career-complete games, which included eight shutouts and ten saves.

In addition, Hoyt, who stood at 6-foot-3, was named MVP of the 1985 MLB All-Star Game. He pitched a stellar three innings in this game and gave up a lone run to the American League. During that time, Hoyt was with the San Diego Padres. It was the only All-Star selection of his career.

Hoyt’s major league career began in 1973 when the New York Yankees selected him in the fifth round of the 1973 amateur draft. He never ended up playing for New York and was traded to the Chicago White Sox in April of 1977.

Two years later, Hoyt made his MLB debut and pitched two scoreless relief innings for the south side of Chicago. By 1982, he moved out of the bullpen and became an essential piece of the White Sox starting rotation. That year, he led the AL in wins, as he posted a 19-15 record and a 3.53 ERA across a total of 39 games, 32 of which he started.

After the 1982 season, Hoyt went on to have the best year of his entire career in 1983. That season he went 24-10 and posted a 3.66 ERA in over 36 starts with the south side. He also guided the team to the division title and won the prestigious AL Cy Young award.

After the 1984 season, Hoyt was traded to the San Diego Padres in a multiplayer deal that brought Ozzie Guillen to the White Sox. Hoyt played two seasons with the Padres, 1985 and 1986, before retiring.

The Houston Astros manager Dusty Baker called Ryan Tepera‘s comments after Game 3, which suggested that the Astros were sign stealing again, “heavy acquisitions.”

On Sunday the Chicago White Sox blew past Houston (12-6) in Game 3 of the American League Divisional Series. As of now, the advantage is with Houston in the series as they approach Game 4 on Tuesday night.

Tepera, the Chicago reliever, commented on the win after the game, insinuating that the reason that the Astros are leading the series is that they are stealing signs – again. Tempera is referring to the scandal that shocked the MLB in 2018 after the Astros won the World Series in 2017. It involved Astros players communicating during games to notify their teammates when certain pitches were coming – in essence, it was cheating.

In January 2020, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred reported that the Astros were, in fact, cheating and using their stolen signs to win baseball games. The Astros were punished in three ways: a $5 million fine, the loss of first and second-round picks from 2020 to 2021 and one-year suspensions for Jeff Luhnow and AJ Hinch – the two players most involved.

In a press conference, a reporter asked Baker, “Postgame last night, Chicago reliever Tepera, hinted or teased that the Astros are cheating again, specifically at  Minute Made Park, how do you respond to that?

“Well, those are some heavy acquisitions,” Baker said. “We’re about the same runs, OPS and everything as we are – well, actually better on the road than we are at home, and I think they’re actually better at home than they are on the road.”

Baker seemed to brush off Tepera’s comments. “So I don’t have much response to that other than I was listening to Eric Clapton this morning and has a song, ‘Before You Accuse Me You Should Take a Look at Yourself,'” he said.

Veteran pitcher Nate Jones is retiring from baseball, agent Joe Speed of Sterling Sports Management announced on Twitter.

“It is bittersweet to announce that long-time client and great friend Nate Jones is retiring from baseball,” Speed wrote. “Nate spent 9 plus years in the major leagues, mostly as a Chicago White Sox. Nate finishes his career w a 22-16 record and a 3.45 ERA. My best to Nate and Lacy and the kids!”

Jones was selected as a fifth-round pick by the Chicago White Sox in 2007. He was never considered one of their best prospects, only topping out at No. 22 on Baseball America’s rankings in the 2011-12 offseason. Still, he became one of the team’s most talented relievers for several years.

Jones made his debut as a 26-year-old in 2012 and immediately cemented himself as a fixture in the bullpen when he pitched 71 2/3 innings of 2.39 ERA ball as a rookie. In his second season, he pitched in 78 innings with a 4.15 ERA ball but had some hip and back soreness along the way.

In 2014, the veteran pitcher suffered from continued back troubles that sidelined him, and he eventually suffered a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow. He only appeared in two games and missed much of the 2015 season while recovering from Tommy John’s surgery.

In 2015, Jones returned to baseball in early August and was re-signed by Chicago on a three-year deal. The following year, he had a career season. Jones pitched a 2.29 ERA with a 29.2 percent strikeout rate and a 5.5 percent walk rate.

Jones was traded to the Texas Rangers at the end of the 2019 season and was subsequently bought out. The veteran then signed with the Cincinnati Reds but only appeared in 21 games with the team.

Oakland Athletics’ pitcher Chris Bassitt was released from the hospital after suffering a right cheek fracture after being hit in the head by a line drive on Tuesday.

Bassitt was pitching to Chicago White Sox batter Brian Goodwin in the bottom of the second inning. Goodwin hit the ball, and it was sent to the mound, striking Bassitt in the head. The starting pitcher was immediately carted off and taken to the hospital. Bassitt did not lose consciousness and was aware during the whole incident.

According to MLB insider Jon Heyman, Bassitt suffered a fractured cheekbone and upper jawbone. The pitcher would undergo surgery once the swelling subsides. There were concerns about Bassitt being hit in the eye, but the ball struck him below and his vision is fully intact.

The A’s released a statement updating Bassitt’s status.

“Chris was released from Rush University Medical Center last night. He received stitches for two facial lacerations and was diagnosed with a displaced tripod fracture in his right cheek that will require surgery. An exam of his right eye was normal for vision, and no other damage is currently noted in the eye or the orbital bone. In addition, a head CT scan revealed no further injury. We are grateful to the White Sox, their medical staff, and the doctors and nurses at Rush for their excellent care. We’ll have more information on Chris as it becomes available.”

White Sox manager Tony La Russa was not happy when one of his rookie batters hit a home run in the team’s trashing of the Minnesota Twins.

It was the top of the ninth inning, the Chicago White Sox were in full control of a 15-4 lead, and rookie Yermin Mercedes came up to the batter box. Twins utility man Willians Astudillo was pitching due to the blowout and threw a meet ball right over the center of the plate on a 3-0 count. Mercedes absolutely smashed it out of the park.

La Russa was not happy with Mercedes’ home run. La Russa told reporters how Mercedes ignored a sign call and hit the home run. However, it does not end there, but La Russa went on to say that he will punish the Mercedes. The manager revealed that he apologized to the Twins for the home run.

La Russa argued that Mercedes broke an unwritten rule, sportsmanship, and was disrespectful. The unwritten rule La Russa is referring to is that when a team is dominating late in the game, the batter is always supposed to take a pitch on a 3-0 count. The rookie instead swung when many argued he shouldn’t have. Mercedes told reporters that he will not change.

“I’m always doing Yermin,” Mercedes said. “For that reason, I’m here right now. For that reason, you guys are talking to me right now. If I’m not Yermin, if I’m not doing that, nobody wants to talk to me, nobody wants to know what I’m doing.”

“I heard he said something like, ‘I play my game,” the manager said in response to Mercedes’ comment. “No, he doesn’t. He plays the game of Major League Baseball, respects the game, respects the opponents. And he’s got to respect the signs.”

The manager vowed for punishment, but that punishment came from the Twins. On Tuesday night, in their second game of the series, Angels reliever Tyler Duffey threw at Mercedes for his home run on Monday. The intentional hit-by-pitch resulted in the ejection of Duffey and his manager, Rocco Baldelli, who was thrown out after arguing.

La Russa did not defend Mercedes for being hit by a pitch after the game. “I don’t have a problem with how the Twins handled it,” La Russa said in regards to Duffey targeting the rookie slugger.
