Golden State Warriors forward Jordan Bell sustained a sprained right ankle in Tuesday’s 114-101 home victory over the Brooklyn Nets and did not return.

Jordan Bell ankle injury news

The rookie received X-rays to determine the extent of his injury, which came in the final seconds of the third quarter after he jumped to try and get a defensive rebound. Bell limped off the court. The X-rays were negative, and the injury was assessed as a “mild sprain.”

Bell previously injured his ankle this season and was carried off the court in a wheelchair. He’s also recently been dealing with a back injury. The rookie came to Golden State when the Chicago Bulls traded his draft rights for cash considerations. He has averaged 4.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1 block per game as a versatile forward. Bell, 23, was sidelined for 14 games due to his previous injuries.

The defending NBA champion Warriors (50-14), however, will likely be fine without Bell. Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green continue to lead the offense. Meanwhile, Andre Iguodala, Kevon Looney and Omri Casspi will likely see more time in the forward rotation.

Golden State next hosts San Antonio on Thursday night.

The Golden State Warriors might be missing Stephen Curry this Christmas.

Steph Curry Ankle Injury news

The defending NBA champions announced Tuesday that the two-time MVP will likely miss their home game against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday due to a right ankle sprain.

Curry sustained the injury during the Warriors’ Dec. 4 victory against the New Orleans Pelicans, and has thus missed the team’s past five games.

Here is Golden State’s official statement on 29-year-old Curry:

“Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry, who has missed the team’s last five games due to a sprained right ankle suffered on Dec. 4 at New Orleans, was re-evaluated by the team’s medical staff today. The evaluation indicated that the ankle is healing well and that he is making good progress overall, enabling him to progress to modified on-court workouts in the coming days. He will be re-evaluated in one week with the anticipation of having more clarity at that time on a potential return to game action plan.”

This season, Curry is averaging 26.3 points, 6.6 assists and 5.1 rebounds. He is shooting 47.3 percent from the floor and a career-worst 38.1 percent from 3-point range. The Warriors are 5-0 in his absence and have won nine straight.

Golden State (24-6, second in Western Conference) beat the Lakers in overtime on Monday and next host the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday night.

Odell Beckham Jr. seems to have avoided severe injury after being hit in the ankle in the New York Giants‘ 10-6 preseason loss to the Cleveland Browns at FirstEnergy Stadium on Monday night.

Odell Beckham Jr. Injury news

The fourth-year Giants wide receiver fell hard after he jumped to successfully catch a pass from Eli Manning early in the second quarter and Browns cornerback Briean Boddy-Calhoun aimed a low hit at his left leg. Beckham, 24, was diagnosed with an ankle sprain and underwent an MRI on Tuesday afternoon.

The former LSU wideout played off the injury following the game, saying he thinks he will be ok.

“(It) feels like a sprained ankle,” Beckham said via the team’s official website. “I don’t know. Rolled ankle. Have you ever hurt your ankle? That is kind of what it feels like. I think I’ll be all right.”

Beckham sat on the sideline during the second half after X-rays came back negative. Giants coach Ben McAdoo refused to rule out the receiver next week, and Beckham himself appeared confident that he would be ready to play for the team’s regular season opener against the Cowboys in Dallas on Sept. 10.

Few NFL pundits questioned the legality of the hit, although many fans on social media were angry and called it a dirty play. Beckham didn’t dispute the officials’ call of a legal hit.

“I don’t know, it’s just football I guess, preseason,” he said, shaking his head, according to the Associated Press. “I’m not really the judge. It’s just football in my opinion.”

McAdoo agreed with his player.

“It’s football. You can’t hit a guy high, you can’t hit a guy low, you can’t hit him in the middle,” McAdoo said. “It’s one of those balls that Eli [Manning] had to drive it and he left his feet. That is a tough play for a DB.”

Giants safety Landon Collins, however, remained convinced Boddy-Calhoun’s tackle was excessive, and made a point to tell the cornerback afterwards.

“I said he was wrong for what he did,” Collins said after the game. “He said, ‘It is what it is.’

“I’m gonna say it just like this, I couldn’t have a teammate next to me playing that way. I can’t condone it. It’s nothing I seek. He had the opportunity to go out and make a different route. That’s how I feel about it. … It’s not a penalty, but everybody knows, that’s something you don’t do.”

Boddy-Calhoun also intercepted a pass from Manning near the end zone midway through the fourth quarter on a Giants third-and-goal:

Collins also praised his teammate for getting back up after taking such a big hit. “Not many guys could walk away from a hit like that, especially straight on the knee and your feet get caught in the ground. Not many guys walk away from that. That’s God blessing him. He got strong bones.”

Beckham had three catches for 37 yards before leaving the field in Cleveland.

Among the Giants’ major highlights on Monday night was this interception by Jason Pierre-Paul in the first quarter. The pick came after Olivier Vernon blocked Browns quarterback Brock Osweiler’s pass:

Vernon then sacked rookie QB DeShone Kizer in the second quarter:

The rest of the Giants’ receiving corps also suffered. Brandon Marshall underwent X-rays during the game on his shoulder, and Tavarres King left with a sprained ankle.

However, Marshall sent ESPN’s Adam Schefter a text message Tuesday morning to say he will be fine.

“You never want to see guys leaving the field,” said Manning. “Hopefully all of them are minor [injuries] and we can get back to work on things.”

New York also lost cornerback Michael Hunter to a concussion later in the game.

The Giants next face the Jets on Saturday night.

The New York Giants‘ receiving corps suffered a major blow on Wednesday, as wide receiver Sterling Shepard was carted off the training camp field with what the team is calling a rolled ankle.

Giants’ Sterling Shepard Ankle Injury

NFL Network’s Kimberly Jones reported Shepard suffered a low right ankle sprain, per a source informed of the situation.

Giants coach Ben McAdoo said the team will evaluate how the wideout responds to initial treatment and go on from there. McAddo called it a “baseball-type” ankle injury.

Shepard is entering his second season in New York after being drafted as a second-round pick out of Oklahoma in 2016 and essentially replaced Victor Cruz, who became hampered by injuries late in his career. Shepard recorded 65 receptions for 683 yards and eight touchdowns in 2016, and served as a great partner for Odell Beckham Jr.

Shepard’s condition will be updated after the Giants finish practice. The wideout previously suffered a sore groin last preseason.

The injury could provide an opportunity for rookie tight end Evan Engram to make his mark on the Giants, who selected him as a first-round pick (No. 23 overall) in this year’s draft out of Ole Miss.

The Giants’ receiving corps also includes Tavarres King, Roger Lewis, Dwayne Harris and Brandon Marshall, whom the team signed from the Jets early in the offseason.

The Los Angeles Chargers also took a hit in their Wednesday practice, as rookie guard Forrest Lamp was carted off the field with an apparent right leg injury. The Chargers are already missing Mike Williams with what could be a serious back problem.

Nevertheless, the Seahawks’ win came at a cost. The team’s quarterback had his right foot accidentally stepped on by Dolphins defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh. Wilson’s ankle became sprained, and his mobility was clearly hindered by the injury.

Seattle coach Pete Carroll, said he expects Wilson to play in Sunday’s Week 2 road game against the Los Angeles Rams.

“He’s pretty good,” Carroll said. “He’s not in a boot. He’s walking around, and he’s practicing on Wednesday. He’s planning on playing, and we’ll see how it goes.

“We’ll take care of him and do a really good job of taking care of him through the week, but we’re counting on him making it back.”

The quarterback himself also said he doesn’t believe the injury is serious.

“I’ll be all right,” said Wilson. “I’ll be ready to roll [next week].” He added that “a little ice, a little prayer, a lot of treatment” will be all that’s necessary.

Wilson also stated he is not worried about his injury on Twitter:

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, however, reported that the sprained ankle is severe enough to label his availability in Sunday’s game against the Rams as uncertain.

Carroll said the team is discussing the possibility of adding a veteran quarterback. Wilson’s backup is Trevone Boykin, an undrafted rookie out of TCU. Nevertheless, the Seahawks coach insisted putting Boykin in for Week 2 likely won’t be necessary since Wilson should be ready to go.

“We were ready to go with Boykin, but Russell jumped back out,” Carroll said after the game, via the Seattle Times.

Wilson has never missed a game or practice since entering the league in 2012. The quarterback’s teammates didn’t seem surprised about Wilson’s willingness to continue playing.

“He’s a tough dude,” receiver Doug Baldwin said. “It’s not just his mental fortitude, but also his physical prowess and what he brings to the table in every facet. I told him, ‘You need to suck it up,’ and he said … well, I can’t repeat what he said. But he let me know it wasn’t going to affect his play. Obviously, he showed that.”

Running back Thomas Rawls added: “I was never really worried about it. Russell’s a fighter, and he’s going to fight to the end. He’s going to finish. He wants that feeling. He wants that pressure.”

Facing a strong Rams defensive front, however, might lead the Seahawks coaching staff, however, to consider keeping their franchise quarterback on the bench.

“You can hardly tell anything’s wrong with him,” Carroll added on Monday. “We’ll help him in practice during the week to make sure we take care of him, but he’s planning on playing. There’s no question in his mind he’s … playing. So I’m going to go along with that until I can’t.”

Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry underwent an MRI on his ailing ankle on Tuesday, and the team later stated that the test did not reveal anything of concern.

Steph Curry’s Ankle Injury

After spraining his right ankle during the Warriors’ Game 1 victory over the Houston Rockets Saturday, Curry was forced to miss practice on Sunday and morning shoot-around on Monday to receive treatment. He then missed Game 2 on Monday, which the Warriors also won 115-106.

Warriors owner Joe Lacob had recently drawn fire in certain radio interviews for saying “It’s not just Steph Curry” as part of an explanation of his team’s success. While the statement may seem incautious, Lacob is not wrong. The Warriors are more than just their star guard.

Moments before tipoff on Monday, dozens of reporters stood outside the main locker room area, anxiously waiting to get word about Curry’s status. Lacob and Golden State general manager Bob Myers entered the locker room to consult with the MVP and team doctors about how to proceed.

Curry had originally been listed as “questionable” going into Games 2 and 3, and he stated on Monday that he’d suffered a “right ankle tweak.”

During a press conference on Monday, Warriors coach Steve Kerr gave the prognosis on Curry, stating:

“We know that he had surgery on that ankle four years ago. He’s got a lot of basketball ahead of him. There are plenty of cases in the past where people played through stuff, and it didn’t turn out so well. Grant Hill being the one that always jumps out at me. Whether that is the same type of thing as this, I don’t really know. What I do know is that we have to look after his health because the competitor that he is, he’s going to want to play.”

Then, shortly after the summit with Lacob, Myers and the doctors, Curry was officially declared out for Game 2.

Now, the Warriors lead the series 2-0, a lead that might inform how they proceed with the Curry situation overshadowing this series. “I’d like to think that if it were 1-1, and he was still not able to play, then we wouldn’t play him,” Kerr said following the game.

“We’ll see how he responds the next couple of days, and if he’s not right, obviously being up 2-0 does give us more cushion if we decide to sit him,” Kerr added Monday night. “But it will be based on his health — not the series score.”

The Warriors could potentially win their next few games against the Rockets without Curry, but the star guard still remains key to the team’s success and it would benefit greatly from his recovery.

Stephen Curry twisted his ankle during game one of the Golden State Warriors’ playoff series against the Houston Rockets, and it seems like there is some concern for him going forward.

Steph Curry’s Ankle Injury May Hurt Warriors

After rolling his right ankle during the first half of the Warriors’ 104-78 victory over the Rockets at Oracle Arena on Saturday, the 28-year-old guard headed to the locker room several times to get it re-taped. Curry played just 20 minutes, nearly all of them in the first half. Although he was cleared to return, he didn’t play after the 8:31 mark of the third quarter. Warriors coach Steve Kerr stated that this wasn’t simply because the game was a blowout by that point.

“He’s questionable. He didn’t practice today. He’s getting treatment. We’ll have an update tomorrow,” Kerr stated.

“He’s doing a little better than yesterday. Again, he’ll get treatment today, get some rest, get off his feet, and do the same thing tomorrow at shootaround and see how he’s feeling.”

Kerr also added, regarding how the team would adjust given the circumstances, that the Warriors don’t seem to have as good a coaching staff when Curry goes out. He also stated that Shaun Livingston would replace Curry if necessary.

The Warriors went 2-1 in the three games Curry missed during the regular season: a 114-91 loss to Dallas on Dec. 30, a 114-110 win over the Rockets on Dec. 31 and a 109-105 win over the Hawks on March 1.

Although Golden State may be the heavy favorite to win the NBA Championship this year, this remains cause for worry. The Warriors likely need Curry to be healthy if they want to get past the San Antonio Spurs.

Curry’s right ankle has previously been surgically repaired and caused him many problems earlier in his career. At this point, the Warriors may be able to survive without him for a game or two, but any absence longer than that would likely cause them problems, particularly as they venture further into the playoffs.

Game 2 of the Warriors-Rockets series will take place on Monday night.
