Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid showed respect and sympathy to Las Vegas Raiders coach Pete Carroll after a 31-0 victory on Sunday afternoon.

The commanding win improves Reid’s team above .500 for the first time this season. But against an injury-ravaged Raiders, the three time Super Bowl champion showed empathy to his opponent.

“My heart goes out to Pete,” Reid said after the game. “The injuries are crushing for him. Especially when 98 [Maxx Crosby] goes out of the game … I know it’s the Raiders, but I hate seeing that happen.”

Crosby left the game after a big hit just before halftime. The defensive end is added to the long list of injuries the Raiders are dealing with. At Arrowhead Stadium, Carroll’s side started without key starters Brock Bowers and Jakobi Meyers as Las Vegas recorded only three first downs in the loss.

Defensively, the Raiders have given up 20 or more points for the fifth time this season as they drop to a 2-5 record.

Carroll believes there’s still lots of work to be done as Las Vegas approaches a bye week before hosting the Jacksonville Jaguars on Nov. 2.

“We have a lot of catching up to do,” Carroll said after Sunday’s loss. “We’ve got to get our guys back. The key guys that missed the game were key guys on our football team, and we weren’t able to overcome that.”

A bullet was fired into Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid’s office in last year, missing him by 15 feet, The Kansas City Star reported.

Reid was unharmed during the event, according to Kansas City Police Department spokesperson Capt. Jake Becchina.

Shortly after midnight on May 4, 2024, a shot from outside the Chiefs’ facility struck through the glass of Reid’s office and wedged into a wall. Reid was sitting 15 feet from the incident.

An investigation is still ongoing, with no arrests or charges being made.

“There is no indication this was a targeted incident at any person or organization,” Becchina said.

“Because the building was occupied at the time of the bullet coming through the window, the case is being investigated as an aggravated assault.”

Two other shots were also fired around the facility, according to the report. An air conditioning unit and the third floor were struck in addition to Reid’s office. No people were harmed by the incident.

Reid’s office is now protected by bulletproof glass.

Since becoming head coach of the Chiefs in 2013, the 67-year-old has led the team to five Super Bowl’s, winning three of them. The shooting incident came three months after the Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII, claiming their third championship in their last five seasons.

Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott was on the wrong side of NFL history on Sunday.

As the Kansas City Chiefs advanced to the Super Bowl for a shot at a three-peat, head coach Andy Reid became the first head coach in NFL history to defeat another head coach at least four times in the playoffs. The Bills are now 0-4 against the Reid-and-Mahomes playoff Chiefs.

Buffalo and Kansas City have been rock-solid in the regular season over the past half-decade, and the Bills have the edge in the regular season series. Despite regular season wins, though, the Chiefs remain the playoff hump they can’t get over.

In his end-of-season press conference, Bills star quarterback and MVP frontrunner Josh Allen defended McDermott strongly.

“This is going to sound weird I’m just so proud of Coach,” he said. “I don’t know why he’s not recognized more in the award stuff.”

“Time in and time out, he’s got us in position. He gives his life to this. He is so committed to doing whatever it takes. And to see him adapt and really grow as a coach has been fun to watch. … I respect the hell out of Coach.”

When asked about his confidence level that McDermott would be the coach to get the Bills their first-ever championship, Allen’s answer was immediate.

“Extremely confident,” he said.

The Bills were largely overlooked in the preseason, particularly given the loss of huge pieces like wide receiver Stefon Diggs. Often slated to finish second or third in their division, Allen and the coaching were both huge factors in the season they were able to finish with.

McDermott ends his eighth season with the Bills having gone to the playoffs seven times, never advancing past the AFC Championship.

The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 29-10 on Christmas Day to clinch the first seed in the playoffs. Head coach Andy Reid made the announcement while dressed as Santa Claus, typical hijinks as Kansas City’s dynasty rolls on to another postseason.

“Merry Christmas! Proud of you, dudes. Proud of you,” Reid said in the locker room. “For the present, you get home field advantage.”

The Chiefs were never challenged in their Week 17 push against the Steelers, taking a 13-0 lead in the first quarter and never looking back. Pittsburgh quarterback Russell Wilson showed flashes of his old style to keep the team in touch in the second quarter, but Kansas City’s defense dominated in the second half and snuffed out any chance of a comeback.

After spending most of the season grinding out wins in defensive battles, the Chiefs have taken a notable step forward in recent weeks. The Texans and Steelers are both low-level playoff contenders in the AFC, and Kansas City earned commanding victories over both in Weeks 16 and 17. This doesn’t necessarily excuse a handful of lucky breaks earlier in the year, but it has done a lot to legitimize the team’s 15-1 record.

After suffering an ankle sprain in Week 15, many feared the worst for quarterback Patrick Mahomes. If anything, however, the three-time Super Bowl winner has been playing his best football all season since the setback. In the last two weeks, he has thrown for 580 yards and four touchdowns while also adding a score on the ground, a marked uptick in production during a largely slow and deliberate 2024 campaign.

While the defense continues to effectively contain opposing teams, the Chiefs’ offensive players around Mahomes also seem to finally be rounding into form.

Every conversation about Mahomes’ offensive weapons must begin with tight end Travis Kelce. At age 35, Kelce has been managed by the team on and off all season in an obvious attempt to preserve the star for the postseason.

When he has been called upon, however, Kelce has excelled in 2024. His target share increased immediately following an injury to wide receiver Rashee Rice earlier this season, and with a chance to clinch against the Steelers, he delivered again with seven catches for 87 yards and a touchdown.

Kelce also set two milestones in the game against Pittsburgh, becoming the first Chiefs player to earn 1,000 career receptions while also passing fellow tight end Tony Gonzalez for most Chiefs receiving touchdowns with 77.

To celebrate his fourth quarter score, Kelce emulated Gonzalez by dunking the ball over the goalpost, incurring a penalty and potential fine. Gonzalez, who said in November that he would pay Kelce’s fine if he used the dunk celebration, congratulated Kelce on social media and received a response.

“You know I had to show love to the greatest of all time!!” Kelce said. “you did mention you’d help me with the fine tho.”

Kelce is still the undisputed focal point of the Chiefs offense, but he’s far from alone. Wide receiver Hollywood Brown has hit the ground running since his return from injury in Week 16, earning 15 targets in two weeks. Rookie wideout Xavier Worthy has not failed to score a touchdown since Week 15, proving to be a consistent threat in the rushing game while expanding his role down the sidelines. DeAndre Hopkins and JuJu Smith-Schuster have taken a step back for other receivers but are still key threats.

After clinching the AFC’s top seed and a bye in the NFL Playoffs one week ahead of schedule, the Chiefs will likely sit key players in Week 18 and begin early preparations for the postseason. With back-to-back Super Bowl victories in hand, this team has the experience and talent to figure as the favorite to win yet another championship. Everything seems to be going their way.

Through 10 weeks of the 2024 NFL season, Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs remain perfect with a 9-0 record. Between that and back-to-back Super Bowl victories, they should figure as the prohibitive favorite to win another one next February.

Many people still aren’t convinced, however. For years, the Chiefs’ identity has revolved around its offense. Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce have formed a dynastic duo, and since Tyreek Hill’s departure, Andy Reid’s innovative schemes have proven capable of turning an army of average wide receivers into playmakers. The team has been notoriously, sometimes frustratingly, fun to watch.

This year’s team is markedly different. It’s very reasonable to argue that Mahomes is having the worst season of his career. He currently ranks 11th in passing yards per game, behind Dak Prescott and Russell Wilson. Young breakout stars Isiah Pacheco and Rashee Rice both went down with injuries early in the year.

Kelce has re-emerged as the best tight end in the league, but that hasn’t been enough to promote much scoring. The Chiefs also rank 11th in points per game, just ahead of the Steelers and Falcons.

But while it would appear that Kansas City’s offense has regressed from a statistical standpoint, it may simply be a matter of game flow. Gone are the days of wild Chiefs shootouts, as the team’s defense has become an elite unit capable of shutting down most offenses in the league. Christopher Jones leads a monstrous defensive line that has shut down rushers all year, while a solid secondary has proven capable of keeping most receivers in check. As a whole, the defense has allowed the fourth fewest yards per game this season.

Mahomes’ gunslinging days seem to be behind him. In its place, Kansas City has adopted a surgical, grinding approach without losing any of its effectiveness. Not counting the preseason, the team hasn’t lost since Christmas Day in 2023.

It’s easy to poke holes in the team’s undefeated record. Just last week, Broncos kicker Wil Lutz had a game-winning field goal blocked late in the fourth quarter. In Week 1, Isaiah Likely was one toe away from scoring a walkoff touchdown for the Ravens. Realistically, the Chiefs could very well have three or four losses if things had gone slightly differently. They’ve proven unflinchingly effective in crunch time, however, closing out tight games with elite efficiency.

It’s also easy to say that the Chiefs aren’t alone in the NFL’s top tier. Lamar Jackson is having an MVP-caliber season for the Ravens, who have also added Derrick Henry to their backfield. The Lions might have the best offense of the decade, featuring dynamic playmakers up and down the depth chart. Christian McCaffrey is back and the 49ers are rounding into form. The Bills and Eagles have both bucked expectations and returned to an elite level.

It’s a crowded playoff race, and therefore tempting to fade the Chiefs and their deliberate play style. But Kansas City has dealt with serious postseason threats before, and in those situations, few have proven capable of out-dueling Mahomes. At various points in his career, Tom Brady wasn’t a fantasy football darling either, but he knew how to take care of business and trust an elite defense. It’s a distinct possibility that it’s the next step for Mahomes, too.

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid announced that receiver Rashee Rice will be a virtual participant in the team’s opening offseason program. Dallas Police arrested Rice following a six-car crash he caused due to racing with another person on the highway. The team awaits a legal ruling before deciding on Rice’s long-term future in Kansas City.

“We’ll just see how it goes. I want to keep gathering any information from the law enforcement people, and we’ll just see where everything goes from there. Let the process take place,” Reid said. “Well, yeah, listen, as long as he’s learned from it, that’s the important part of it. We’ll take it from there and see what takes place. Right now, we’re just kind of gathering everything and trying to make sure we have all the bases covered.”

Rice caught 79 passes for 938 yards and seven touchdowns in his 2023 rookie campaign with the Chiefs. The 23-year-old also caught six passes for 39 yards in the team’s Super Bowl win over the San Fransisco 49ers and was second among rookies in receiving yards throughout the season. Last year, Rice was also the second-leading receiver for Kansas City, only behind tight end Travis Kelce.

With Rice potentially missing the entire season or more as he and the team await the ruling, the Chiefs have a decision to make in the upcoming draft. Reid hinted that the team is looking to take a receiver with their 32nd overall pick, but they could go the other direction if they have faith in Rice’s future. Reid also said the team is interested in finding a new left tackle, which could also come through the draft.

“I’d tell you those two positions he’s (General Manager Brett Veach) looking at, but he’s also going through everything, so we’ve got spots and depth that we can use really everywhere, and we’ll just see how the whole Rashee thing goes,” Reid said. When it’s all said and done, we should have players in there ready to go.”

To replace Rice’s role on the team, the Chiefs have eyed Texas wide receivers Xavier Worthy and Adonai Mitchell, Georgia’s Ladd McConkey and Alabama’s Kool-Aid McKinstrey as potential options in the draft. In a year when many teams are looking to take a quarterback, Kansas City is instead looking the other way, and it could land a steal with the final pick of the first round.

Behind Kelce and Rice, who led the team in receiving, were Skyy Moore, Marquez Valdez Scantling, Justin Watson, Kadarius Toney, and Noah Gray. However, none even managed half as many yards as quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ top two targets. Kansas City is set to return most of these players in 2024, but the team struggled throughout the season with dropped balls and missed routes, and the loss of Rice could prove even more fatal in that department.

KANSAS CITY, MO - DECEMBER 25: Tight end Travis Kelce #87 of the Kansas City Chiefs enters the field during player introductions prior to the game against the Denver Broncos at Arrowhead Stadium on December 25, 2016 in Kansas City, Missouri.

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce said on the New Heights podcast this week that he regretted an altercation with head coach Andy Reid at the Super Bowl Sunday.

Kelce’s brother, Jason Kelce, began the conversation by calling him out, claiming that he had crossed a line.

Late in the first half, Kelce was seen yelling at Reid on the sidelines after the coach temporarily removed him from the game. The dispute escalated when the tight end made contact with his coach, knocking him off balance.

“I can’t get that fired up to the point where I’m bumping coach and it’s getting him off balance and stuff,” Kelce said. “When he stumbled I was like, ‘Oh s—‘ in my head.”

Despite a slow start, the Chiefs erased a 10-point deficit to defeat the San Francisco 49ers in overtime 25-22. Earlier in the week, Reid addressed the incident with Kelce and largely dismissed it. It is more than likely that the pair’s most recent championship victory quickly resolved any issues they might have had after their first-half altercation.

“He keeps me young,” Reid said. “He tested that hip out. He caught me off balance — normally, I’d give him a little bit, but I didn’t have any feet under me.”

Kelce has been a Chief since 2013, playing under Reid for the entirety of his career. The pair have now won three Super Bowls together, forging one of the closest coach-player bonds in the league.

“I couldn’t be more proud of being his product on the field and I couldn’t be more proud of where we’ve come since I got here in 2013,” Kelce went on to say during his apology. “I just love playing for the guy. Unfortunately, sometimes my passion comes out where it looks like it’s negativity, but I’m grateful that he knows that it’s all because I want to win this thing with him, more than anything.”

Though both have been rumored to be considering retirement in the near future, Kelce and Reid are both currently slated to return to the NFL for the 2024 season.

On Wednesday, the San Francisco 49ers fired defensive coordinator Steve Wilks three days after the team lost the Super Bowl to the Kansas City Chiefs. Wilks joined the 49ers in 2023 and led one of the most efficient defenses in the league this season.

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan made the announcement Wednesday afternoon, claiming that he made the decision himself.

“I was sleeping on this for a few nights, trying to come up with a few tough decisions, but this morning I relieved Steve Wilks of his duties,” Shanahan said. “Gonna end up making a change here at defensive coordinator. Really tough decision. It says nothing about Steve as a man or football coach. He’s a great football coach. But just where we’re going and where we’re at with our team from a scheme standpoint and things like that, looking through it all throughout the year through these last few days, I felt pretty strongly that this was the decision that was best for our organization.”

Like Shanahan, Wilks has been to the Super Bowl three times over the course of his career but has never won. He was the Chicago Bears’ defensive backs coach in 2006 when the team lost to the Indianapolis Colts. He was also the assistant head coach of the 15-1 Carolina Panthers team that lost to the Denver Broncos to end the 2015 season.

Shanahan and Wilks reportedly disagreed throughout the 2023 season, with the head coach eventually requesting that his defensive coordinator call plays from a booth instead of the sideline. Under Wilks, the 49ers’ defense dropped from the least points allowed in the league in 2022 to fourth least in 2023.

Based on his prodigious resume spanning three decades and 15 NFL and college programs, Wilks will almost certainly find another position in football this off-season. At one point last year, he was considered for the Panthers’ head coaching vacancy after filling in as interim coach at the end of the 2022 season.

The 49ers, meanwhile, are in a frustrating fine-tuning stage after suffering their second Super Bowl defeat in four years. With the most star-studded offense in football and one of the toughest defenses, the team figured as a prohibitive Super Bowl favorite this year and will maintain that title next year.

But for all of San Francisco’s success this season, Shanahan could not overcome Chiefs head coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who won their third Super Bowl together in five seasons. It seems that Wilks, despite a credible (if turbulent) job in San Francisco this season, was the first on the chopping block for the team’s setback.

The Kansas City Chiefs beat the San Fransisco 49ers 25-22 in only the second-ever Super Bowl to go to overtime. It was also the first playoff game under new overtime rules, which guaranteed both teams a chance with the ball.

While Kansas City had a strategy in place if the game went past regulation, many San Francisco players were uninformed on the new rules and didn’t have a correct sense of how to win the game in overtime.

“You know what? I didn’t even realize the playoff rules were different in overtime. I assume you just want the ball to score a touchdown and win,” 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk said after the game. “I guess that’s not the case. I don’t totally know the strategy there. We hadn’t talked about it, no.”

On Tuesday, San Fransisco head coach Kyle Shanahan said to the media that before the playoffs, he met with the team’s analytics department to lay out multiple overtime scenarios they could see in the future. Shanahan also added that he asked assistant coaches to refresh players on the rules after the end of regulation in the Super Bowl, but the message clearly wasn’t heard by all.

“We told everyone as we were waiting for the coin toss to review every one to make sure they’re sure before we go out,” Shanahan said. “So, we asked position coaches to do that. But I didn’t cover it in a meeting on the Super Bowl week. I don’t think that changes anything.”

NFL overtime periods changed in the postseason following the Chiefs’ 42-36 OT defeat over the Buffalo Bills in the 2021 playoffs. Rules previously didn’t ensure both teams would have a chance with the ball, the game ending if the first team with the ball scored a touchdown. Though the 49ers only managed a field goal with their overtime possession, they may not have known that the Chiefs still had a chance to win.

“I didn’t even know about the new playoff overtime rule, so it was a surprise to me,” San Fransisco defensive lineman Arik Armstead said after the loss. “I didn’t even really know what was going on in terms of that.”

Contrary to San Fransisco, the victorious Kansas City said they went through multiple meetings throughout the playoffs, highlighting what the new overtime format would look like.

“We’ve talked about it all year,” Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said after the game. “We talked about it in training camp about how the rules were different in the regular season versus the playoffs. Every week of the playoffs we talked about the overtime rule.”

Their preparation seemed to pay off, and Kansas City walked away with their third Super Bowl in five years after the final Patrick Mahomes to Mecole Hardman touchdown.

Though it worked out, the Chiefs said if the 49ers had scored a touchdown on their drive, the offense would have “gone for two” to seal up the win. It was the Chiefs who were part of the reason the overtime rules were changed, and they now benefit in the first game with the rules in place.

“We knew what our game plan was – had we won the coin toss, whether we want to defer or not, and what our plan was from there,” Reid said.

The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 in overtime of Super Bowl LVIII. With the game in the extra period and the KC down three, Patrick Mahomes drove the team 75 yards for a championship-winning touchdown pass to Mecole Hardman.

With the win, Mahomes wins his third Super Bowl MVP, only the third player in history to do so. The win for the Chiefs also marks the first back-to-back championships since 2003/04, with Tom Brady and the New England Patriots.

“I love these guys right here. Family forever, baby. I couldn’t be prouder of these guys,” tight end Travis Kelce said after the game. “And how about it? We get a chance to do it three times in a row.”

The game started slow with neither team able to score in the first quarter. The 49ers were able to take a 10-0 lead after a 21-yard touchdown pass from receiver Jauan Jennings to running back Christian McCaffrey. Kansas City was able to kick a field goal to only be down seven going into halftime. In the third quarter, the Chiefs defense dominated the Niners to force three straight punts and a recovered fumble, while the offense was able to score a Super Bowl-record long field goal and a Mahomes to Marquez Valdez-Scantling touchdown to take the lead 13-10.

San Fransisco quickly scored in the fourth quarter but missed the extra point to go up by only three. The Chiefs were able to quickly respond with another field goal of their own to retie the game. With five minutes left, the 49ers were able to march down the field one last time in regulation to kick a field goal with two minutes remaining. Down three, Mahomes did what he does best and took his team down the field to set up another Harrison Butker kick to retie the game for a second time and send it into overtime.

The 49ers won the coin toss in the extra period, the first playoff game with new overtime rules allowing both teams to be guaranteed a possession. They were able to use half of the clock to set up their final score of the game, which came in the form of a 27-yard Jake Moody field goal. With seven minutes left and down three, Mahomes once again did what he’s known for and led a comeback for the ages. Without a key run from Mahomes and a crucial pass to Kelce, the Chiefs were, at multiple times, only a play away from losing the game. However, with the clock at only a few seconds left and the Chiefs lined up at the three-yard line, Mahomes found Hardman for the championship-sealing score.

Mahomes finished the game 34/46 with 333 passing yards and 66 rushing yards for two touchdowns and an interception to win the game MVP, his third total and second straight. Kelce ended with nine catches for 93 yards, and both Valdez-Scantling and Hardman had three catches, each scoring a touchdown for KC.

For the 49ers, quarterback Brock Purdy finished 23/38 for 255 yards and a touchdown. McCaffrey had a touchdown and a fumble while leading San Fransisco in both rushing and receiving yards with 80 each and Jennings became the second player in history to throw and catch a touchdown in the Super Bowl. Receiver Deebo Samuel tried to play through an injury on Sunday night, but could only manage to gain 41 total yards.

Mahomes now has 15 playoff wins and is only behind Brady and Joe Montana on the all-time list while Kelce became the third player to lead his team in receiving in three different Super Bowl games.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid is also now tied for the third-most Super Bowl wins by an NFL coach, and the team’s three championships in five years have all come after trailing by at least ten points. Just like the Patriots did with Brady and Bill Belichick, the Chiefs with Mahomes, Kelce and Reid are building a new dynasty right in front of us.

“It’s the start of [a dynasty], we’re not done. I know we’re going to celebrate tonight but we got a young team, we going to keep this thing going,” Mahomes said.

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce delivered a detailed explanation for his helmet-throwing incident last weekend during a game against the Las Vegas Raiders. During a poor first half, Kelce threw his helmet on the sidelines and had to be reprimanded by head coach Andy Reid.

“[Reid] wanted to see the fire in me, and I reacted in a bad way,” Kelce said on the New Heights podcast earlier this week. “And, right now, I’m just not playing my best football, and I gotta f—— lock the f— in, and be more accountable for him, be more accountable for my teammates. I gotta keep my f—– cool, man. As a leader on this team, that’s not how you switch the momentum.”

Kelce was not the only one to express his frustration Sunday, as Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was also spotted yelling at teammates after a scoreless first quarter. Kansas City went on to lose the game 20-14.

The Chiefs have lost three of their last four games, though they still hold a 9-6 record and will make the playoffs. The reigning Super Bowl champs have been visibly frustrated  by the recent rough patch, complaining about referees and speaking out during press conferences.

Kelce has not performed at his usual level either during this stretch and has not reached 100 yards since Week 7. The tight end also said on his podcast that he and his teammates had to take “more ownership” for their losses and regain momentum.

If the Chiefs do not gain the first seed in the AFC, they could eventually have to play in their first road playoff game of the Mahomes era. This is more of a testament to Mahomes’ success in five seasons as the team’s starter but also marks a rare point of regression for the star quarterback and Reid’s offense.

The Chiefs will finish the regular season in games against the Bengals and Chargers. Both teams have lost their starting quarterbacks to season-ending injuries, providing Mahomes and Kelce with ample opportunities to turn things around ahead of the postseason.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes said Thursday that he accepts the fine the NFL has given him for criticizing referees after his Week 14 game against the Bills. Mahomes was visibly upset after wide receiver Kadarius Toney was called offsides on a play that would’ve won the game for Kansas City.

“I had outbursts on the sideline and everybody saw it on a big game, and so there’s going to be consequences to that,” Mahomes said. “Now you’ve just got to live with those consequences, learn from it, become better from it and not try to let that happen again. But we kind of just kept it moving. That was a couple weeks ago now, and now we’re just focused on the Raiders and how we can do whatever we can to beat them.”

Compared to his usual MVP-caliber play, Mahomes has struggled to command the Kansas City offense this season.

Many have blamed his teammates for these struggles, namely Toney alongside other struggling pass catchers. Beyond star tight end Travis Kelce and upstart receiver Rashee Rice, Mahomes has struggled to find reliable options. Despite this, however, the team is 9-5 and almost certain to make the playoffs.

For criticizing referees after the Bills game, Mahomes and Chiefs head coach Andy Reid will have to pay a combined $150,000 in fines. Reid was fined for comments to reporters he made after the game.

“Very disappointed that it ended the way it did,” Reid said after the game. “Normally I’ll get — I never use any of this as excuses, but normally I get a warning before something like that happens in a big game. [It’s] a bit embarrassing in the National Football League for that to take place.”

Reid later apologized after reviewing the tape and confirming that Toney did not check with officials that he was onside before the play began.

A pair of NFL games in Frankfurt, Germany, will take place on a hybrid turf field after teams complained about slipping issues on grass fields last year. The Chiefs and Dolphins are scheduled to play in the European city on November 5, followed by the Colts and Patriots on November 12.

“We continue to review the best surfaces for teams to play on and work with our stadium partners — both before and after events,” the NFL said in a statement. “In Frankfurt, the hybrid product will also allow for reduced wear to the playing surface ensuring quality for back-to-back games.”

Though the specifics of the new hybrid field at Deutsche Bank Park have not been revealed, the new turf is expected to solve many of the issues the league had last year with traction. In a 2022 regular season game between the Seahawks and Buccaneers in Munich, many players complained that the natural grass was too slippery.

Inconsistent playing surfaces have been a common issue for the NFL in recent years, as several different issues have cropped up and evoked criticism from players and coaches. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, who will bring his team to Frankfurt next month, blamed the field at State Farm Stadium for a pair of injuries his players sustained in a regular season game last year. The Chiefs later won the Super Bowl on the same field later in the season, with some Eagles players partially blaming the slippery surface for the loss after the game.

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, who will also travel to Frankfurt this year, was at least partially responsible for replacing the Patriots’ turf after just one week in 2017, several months after it was installed. Unlike Reid and other outspoken coaches like Pete Carroll, Belichick never commented directly on the issue but also personally oversaw changes to the playing surface at Gillette Stadium.

We know their quarterback doesn’t like it. Now we know the Kansas City Chiefs head coach also thinks changes to the NFL’s overtime rules should be instituted.

Andy Reid knows exactly what the Buffalo Bills went through Sunday night, with not getting a chance on offense in overtime of a playoff loss. KC was a victim of such circumstances in the 2019 AFC Championship game—a loss to Tom Brady and the Patriots.

Buffalo downplayed the overtime rules, but Reid and his team three years ago tried to change the league’s OT rules to no avail.

“I’m glad we didn’t change them as of last night,” Reid said. “I had a chance to talk to (Bills coach) Sean (McDermott) afterward, and that’s I’m sure something they’re going to look at again, too, and I wouldn’t be opposed to it. That’s a hard thing, it was great for us last night, but is it great for the game, which is the most important thing that we should all be looking out for.

“To make things equal, it probably needs to be able to hit both offenses and both defenses.”

The Chiefs 2019 proposal:

  • Allow both teams the opportunity to possess the ball at least once in overtime, even if the first team to possess the ball in overtime scores a touchdown.
  • Eliminate overtime for preseason.
  • Eliminate overtime coin toss so that winner of the initial coin toss to begin the game may choose whether to kick or receive or which goal to defend.

That proposal was, of course, not adopted and didn’t even make it to a vote.

Le’Veon Bell is an imposing force in the backfield of any offense, but at times his comments outside the lines of the football field are cause for question and concern. Bell has once again injected himself into the center of a media frenzy with his recent comment that he would never again play for his former coach Andy Reid.

The comments follow Bell’s 2020 campaign in which the running back received nearly zero playing time during the playoffs. The comment is sure to negatively impact Bell’s stock with potential suitors for his talents, as he is still unsigned with approximately two months until the start of the 2021 season.

Bell attempted to do some damage control, stating that he loved everything about Kansas City – besides the organization’s head coach, of course. The response can be seen in a tweet sent from his personal account.

“I said what I said & I don’t regret at all what I said…for those who have a PERSONAL PROBLEM with me because of what I SAID, that’s fine…you have your right! just understand I ALSO have MY RIGHT for how I feel about MY PERSONAL problem with dude because of what HE SAID to me,” Bell wrote in a tweet.

Former teammate and current Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu did not take kindly to the comments about his coach. Mathieu seemed to insinuate that Bell was an excuse-maker who sought to blame others for his lack of playing time while suiting up for Kansas City.

Regardless, Bell still put up fairly impressive numbers during his tenure with the Chiefs. The veteran averaged 4 yards per carry, and caught approximately 76% of the passes thrown to him. This type of production is deeply needed by teams such as the Lions and the Ravens, although it is unknown how much interest these teams have in striking a deal with the former Steelers star. Only time will tell if Bell’s most recent comments will be a permanent thorn in the side of an otherwise productive career.

The GoFundMe is designated for Ariel’s medical expenses and had collected more than $480,000 as of Tuesday morning. However, the page offered no further updates about the girl’s condition.

Ariel had been hospitalized since the crash on February 4 in which a truck driven by Britt Reid collided with two cars, one that had run out of gas near Arrowhead Stadium and one that stopped to help. Young and a four-year-old child were sitting in the second car.

Reid was the outside linebacker coach for the Chiefs at the time of the crash, but he was placed on leave for the rest of his contract, which has since expired. Reid is currently under investigation by Kansas City, Missouri police.

Reid, 35, told police that he consumed at least two drinks before driving his truck on the day of the crash. He also told police that he has a prescription for the drug Adderall.

Additionally, the Kansas City Star’s court documents revealed that police collected blood from Reid at the time of the accident. A field sobriety test was conducted at the scene and again at the hospital where Reid was taken. An officer reported observing “four clues of impairment.”

Britt Reid’s father, Andy Reid, discussed the crash following the Chiefs’ loss in Super Bowl LV.

“My heart goes out to all those involved in the accident, in particular the family with the little girl fighting for her life,” he told reporters. “I can’t comment on it any more than I am here, so the questions you have, I am going to have to turn those down at the time.”

“But just from a human standpoint— man, my heart bleeds for everyone involved in that.”

Patrick Mahomes continued to prove why he is one of the greatest young talents the NFL has ever seen after winning his first Super Bowl title and capturing the Super Bowl MVP award Sunday. At the age of 24, Mahomes became the youngest player in NFL history to be named a regular season and Super Bowl MVP. Mahomes was 26-42 for 286 yards with three total touchdowns (two passing, one rushing), two interceptions and a 78.6 passer rating. He became the only quarterback other than Tom Brady (Super Bowl XLIX) and Terry Bradshaw (XIV) to win Super Bowl MVP despite throwing multiple interceptions.

He helped orchestrate the second largest comeback in Super Bowl history after trailing the 49ers by 10 going into the fourth quarter. On 3rd down and 15, Mahomes found Tyreke Hill downfield for a 44-yard pass that helped setup Kansas City in the redzone. Four plays later, he hooked up with a wide open Travis Kelce in the endzone cutting the deficit to just three. During the next drive Mahomes brought his team down the field with a seven-play, 65-yard drive that setup a five yard touchdown pass to Damien Williams giving the Chiefs a 24-20 lead.

“The third quarter didn’t go the way I wanted it to,” Mahomes told ESPN after holding up the Lombardi Trophy. “I tried to force some things and got some turnovers. But the guys believed in me and gave me confidence to try and find my way at the end.”

The Chiefs capped off the score with a defensive stand that saw the 49ers turn the ball over on downs and their offense followed that up with a 38-yard touchdown run by Williams to ice the game at 31-20 with just over a minute left to play.

Discussing his team’s willingness to fight back from being down by 10 going into the fourth quarter, Mahomes told ESPN, “It’s this team. We have heart. Coach [Andy Reid] pushes us to be the best people we can be and never give up. I knew we weren’t in the ideal situation. I believed in my defense to get stops, and they did. Then the guys kept believing in me and kept making plays downfield, and we found a way to win.”

Mahomes continued with a smile on his face, “I’ve been waiting to say it my whole life: I’m going to Disney World.”

“It’s like watching Denzel [Washington] in a movie. It’s like watching LeBron James in the playoffs,” Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu said. “He has that spark. For him to be that young and to find the confidence to do what he did against a special defense, that tells you everything you need to know about that man.”

Adding to the joyous victory, Chiefs coach Andy Reid finally received his first Super Bowl ring after maintaining the best coaching record in the league without a championship. He credited Mahomes’ motivation to never give up.

“He kept firing, that’s what he did. The guys around him just believed in him. It was just — we all did, all the coaches, likewise. And then our defense had a couple of great stands in there. We knew it would be a close game, and it felt that way. We knew there would be challenges to battle through, and nobody lost their poise, they just kept rolling, so I was proud of everybody there.”

Mahomes also provided words of inspiration for prospective athletes around the world. “The best thing about it is you’re showing kids that no matter where you grow up, what race you are, that you can achieve your dream. For me, being a black quarterback — having a black dad and a white mom — it just shows that it doesn’t matter where you come from. It doesn’t matter if you’re a baseball player or basketball player, follow your dreams. Whatever your dreams are, put the work ethic in and you can be there at the end of the day.”

Most people have an opinion about Michael Vick. A strong opinion.

Looking to continue its multimedia expansion, Bleacher Report produced the documentary VICK, capitalizing on one of the most polarizing figures in sports history, following his rise to fame and fall from glory.

Bleacher pulls back the curtain on Vick’s life, showing what is was like to grow up in the downtrodden projects of Newport News, Virginia, his close relationship with former NFL quarterback Donovan McNabb and his quest to be “part of the solution.”

REVIEW: ‘VICK’ Documentary Hits Receivers In Stride

Vick addresses his role in dogfighting, which many feel unwilling to forgive him for, but that tune may change after one screening of VICK.

Viewers learn that Vick had talent unmatched, maybe by anyone whose ever played the quarterback position. Former coaches, family, friends, opponents, all bow to his athletic ability.

‘VICK’ CHAPTER 2: PHENOM

But as we know now, this story has a twist.

Vick explains his incarceration in great detail, making no excuses for his actions and accepting full responsibility.

Just as fans follow his ascent, viewers are given intricate detail of how this once-promising superstar, plummeted like a stone from a cliff.

From Madden cover, to orange jumpsuit before he could blink.

Bleacher shows it all, using interviews and archived footage to string together all the components of this emotional rollercoaster ride, which is as gratifying as it is stimulating.

VICK was released in five installments, but the full documentary will keep viewers’ eyes fixed on their computer screen.

Perhaps the most provocative segment features McNabb explaining how he pitched former Philadeplhia Eagles head coach Andy Reid the idea of bringing Vick into the fold after his release from prison.

What many viewers didn’t know, myself included and I consider myself somewhat of a Vick historian, is that McNabb had recruited Vick to join his team once before.

But this wasn’t at the NFL level, McNabb, a superstar in college at Syracuse, was courting Vick to takeover the reins of the Orangemen offense, before Vick decided to cut his own cloth in Blacksburg at Virginia Tech.

“Five, I wanna take the game back over,” Vick told McNabb when discussing a return to the NFL.

Vick’s personality takes over your living room.

In one 50-minute span, you feel compassion for him, stand in awe of him, want to punch him and finally feel empathy for him.

‘VICK’ CHAPTER 5:RETURN

“I talked to Andy and Andy had that same reaction,” McNabb recalled when explaining how Vick began his comeback to the NFL.

“Andy said, ‘Are you serious?’ I said ‘Yeah, he’s like my little brother,” McNabb said. “I think it would be good for him and I think it would be good for our team.”

‘VICK’ is good for everyone.

Kids can learn the lessons of his missteps and those of his reemergence.

Viewers will learn many things about Michael Vick from this film: he is greedy, shifty, smart, caring, compassionate, remorseful and willing to admit all these aspects of his personality.

We learn Vick is a man, nothing else.

“It’s what you do when people are not watching, it’s not what you do when they’re watching,” Vick says at the close of the film. “It’s easy to put on a front.BUt when the cameras start rolling, you’re gonna see a different man.”

Over the weekend, the NFL convened their annual owners meeting to discuss new rules, marketing schemes and other ways to take over the world. But the owners are not the only people to make their way to Arizona, as agents, GMs and even coaches come for official business.

Well, one of the yearly traditions is a portrait of all 32 head coaches. And, by far, the best thing about this picture has to be Kansas City Chief’s head coach Andy Reid.

Everyone else is reasonably dressed with a few coaches — Vikings’ Mike ZimmerBill Belichick and Texans’ Bill O’Brien — rocking jeans and even the Ravens’ Harbaugh wearing shorts with sneakers. But no one looks like Andy Reid, who cannot care less about the situation. He looks like the grumpy old guy on the block that would yell at neighborhood kids when they passed his house. And the Hawaiian shirt just puts the icing on the cake.

Reid enters into his 17th year of coaching, with 2015 being his third year in Kansas City. In his 16 years as a head coach, he has a record of 150-105-1 with one trip to the Super Bowl in 2004.
