Alexis Sanchez’s future with Arsenal remains uncertain, although another Premier League club has made a bid for the Chilean forward.

Alexis Sanchez transfer news

Manchester City have announced that they would be willing to include midfielder Raheem Sterling in a deal for 28-year-old Sanchez. According to The Sun and several other publications, City are also offering cash to acquire the Chilean. The Sun also claims Sanchez has demanded to leave his international training camp with Chile in order to “sort out other commitments.”

Sanchez’s contract at Anfield expires in June 2018, and the Chilean has refused to sign an extension. He has reportedly expressed a desire to leave the Gunners over discontent with negotiations and management of the club.

Sterling, 22, joined City from Liverpool in 2015 for a record transfer fee of £49 million ($63 million). The Jamaican-born England winger is reportedly open to returning to London. He started his career playing for QPR’s youth team before moving to Anfield.

City is among the teams Sanchez has expressed interest in due to the possibility of re-teaming with manager Pep Guardiola, whose last year as manager of Barcelona was Sanchez’s first year playing for the Catalan club (2011-2012). The Chilean joined Barcelona from Italian team Udinese in 2011.

Manchester City were initially prepared to offer around £50 million ($65 million) for Sanchez, although Arsène Wenger has insisted that he would not be sold. It is believed that City’s latest offer includes Sterling and around £20 million ($26 million). Though no official deal has been made, City and Arsenal have held several talks in recent days.

Sanchez is due to play for Chile against Paraguay in a 2018 Russia World Cup qualifier on Thursday after returning from injury in Arsenal’s 4-0 loss to Liverpool on Sunday. The Chilean was pulled in the 62nd minute of the game.

The Gunners are also reportedly more interested in Argentine forward Sergio Aguero than Sterling, although sources claim Aguero is not seeking a transfer.

Alexis Sanchez has decided whether he will remain with Arsenal next season, although he added he will not reveal which team he will be playing for until after the Confederations Cup.

Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez Says He Is Focused On Confederations Cup Final vs Germany

The 28-year-old Chilean forward’s contract with the Gunners expires in the summer of 2018, and he has been targeted by several European teams in the last few months. Manchester City have emerged as one of the frontrunners to sign Sanchez, and Pep Guardiola’s club is hoping he will complete a £50 million ($65 million) transfer from Emirates Stadium.

Guardiola brought Sánchez from Italian club Udinese to Barcelona in the summer of 2011 and worked with him there for one season. The Chilean then joined Arsenal in 2014 on a £31.7 million ($41 million) transfer fee.

However, Sanchez — who is also reportedly being pursued by Bayern Munich — told Sky Sports in an interview this week that all of his attention is currently focused on winning the FIFA Confederations Cup. Chile is facing Germany in the tournament final in St. Petersburg, Russia on Sunday.

When asked whether he had made up his mind about which team he would call home next season, Sanchez laughed and said, “Yes, it’s clear but I can’t tell you.”

The forward then said he was focused on international play when asked whether there was a strong possibility he could join his international teammate, Chile goalkeeper Claudio Bravo, at Manchester City later this year.

“Good question,” Sanchez told Sky Sports. “Right now I’m focused on the Confederations Cup. When this is finished I will see if I stay or if I go. I don’t know.”

Chile defeated Portugal 3-0 on penalties following a 0-0 tie in Wednesday’s Confederations Cup semifinal to reach the title game of the tournament, which pits together the champions from each of the six geographic regions plus the host nation and the reigning FIFA World Cup winner.

Arsenal are desperate to keep Sanchez, who has thus far not signed a new contract reportedly worth more than £250,000 ($325,000) per week. BeIN SPORTS reported early Friday that the team’s longtime manager, Frenchman Arsene Wenger, refuses to let Sanchez and German midfielder Mesut Ozil leave.

Sanchez was Arsenal’s top scorer last season with 30 goals in 51 appearances for the team. Nevertheless, he was unable to help the Gunners secure a top-four Premier League finish or qualification for the Champions League.

Sanchez also helped Chile win consecutive Copa America titles in 2015 and 2016. Chile defeated Argentina on penalty kicks in both finals.

Ryan Giggs says Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez could help Manchester United

The 43-year-old former United midfielder praised Sanchez and said the Chilean striker could benefit from the same situation Dutch forward Robin Van Persie found himself in five years ago.

Van Persie, who now plays for Turkish Süper Lig club Fenerbahçe, made a surprising £24 million ($31 million at today’s rate) move to Old Trafford from Anfield in 2012 after eight years with Arsenal.

Sanchez’s contract with Arsenal expires in 2018, and the 28-year-old has yet to sign a new deal. The Chilean, who joined the Gunners from Barcelona in 2014, has scored 21 goals and delivered ten assists in the Premier League this season.

“[He’s] a brilliant player,” Giggs told Premier League Productions and the Daily Express of Sanchez. “His work rate, the effect he has on his teammates, a winner. He just looks how South Americans are, tough aren’t they.”

When asked if he could see Sanchez at Old Trafford, Giggs answered: “Yeah. Jose Mourinho bought [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic because he is a winner. He’d won everywhere he’d gone. Not only the effect on the pitch but off the pitch as well.

“You can just feel that Sanchez would give his teammates a lift.”

Giggs then compared the Chilean’s situation to Van Persie’s in 2012.

“When we bought Van Persie you’re buying a ready-made superstar and everyone was like ‘Van Persie scores 25 goals a season,” Giggs continued. “‘What a brilliant buy’. And it gives not only the fans a lift, but the players.”

Sanchez is the first Arsenal player to score 20 or more goals since Van Persie in his final season with the club.

The Chilean has repeatedly said he is happy at Anfield, though he also admitted he was “frustrated” by the Gunners’ failure to win a title and added he hopes to be competing for the Champions League.

Arsenal finished in fifth place in the Premier League this season with 69 points, just one spot ahead of United, who ended the season with 65 points.

United next visit Southampton on Wednesday after losing 2-1 at Tottenham on Sunday.

Jamie Carragher has some strong words about the contract negotiations for Arsenal stars Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, whose deals with the Gunners are both up in 2018.

Jamie Carragher Says Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil Contract Talks ‘Embarassing’

Chilean striker Sanchez and German midfielder Ozil gave a poor showing in Monday’s 3-0 loss at Crystal Palace, a defeat that weakened Arsenal’s chances at finishing in the top four of the Premier League this season.

There remains much uncertainty as to the future of both players after next year, and this seems to be affecting their performances. Arsenal have now lost seven of their last 12 games.

Carragher, a former Liverpool defender who is now a pundit for Sky Sports, lambasted Sanchez and Ozil for their lackluster playing on Monday, saying he feels their poor performances are a clear sign that they wish to leave Arsenal as soon as possible.

“The contracts with Sanchez and Ozil – they’ve been nothing short of embarrassing since the contract talks started,” said Carragher. “I think Sanchez has been awful the last couple of months. It’s looking like they’re playing to get away. Their performances since the talks started have been embarrassing.

“They’ve been nowhere near good enough for Arsenal.”

Several different Premier League clubs including Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United are reportedly interested in Sanchez, along with La Liga teams Barcelona and Real Madrid.

However, no deal has yet been officially made.

Chelsea have reportedly made Sanchez, 28, their main summer transfer target, and the Chilean has said he is interested in staying in London. Nevertheless, Sanchez has also said he would like to work again under Man City manager Pep Guardiola, who was his coach at Barcelona several years ago.

United is also reportedly interested in Ozil, Reds manager Jose Mourinho said.

Arsenal are seven points away from fourth place in the Premier League with just one game left.

Alexis Sanchez has a little over one year remaining on his contract with Arsenal, but the Chilean forward is already seeking a transfer to another club, and Chelsea is at the top of his list.

Alexis Sanchez Rumored to Transfer from Arsenal To Chelsea Or Other Clubs

The 28-year-old’s contract with Arsenal expires in June 2018, and the Gunners have not reached any sort of extension with Sanchez.

According to Matt Law of The Telegraph, Paris Saint-German, Juventus and some Chinese Super League teams are all also interested in Sanchez, but the Chilean seems to want to stay local, and move just cross-town to London’s other Premier League club.

Law also reported that Chelsea are gearing up for bids for both Sanchez and Belgian star Romelu Lukaku, both of whom the Stamford Bridge-based club would be interested in signing this summer.

Sanchez emphasized recently that he wants to be on a “winning team.”

Arsenal seem increasingly unlikely to finish in the top four of the Premier League this season. Therefore, they may not end up playing in the UEFA Champions League in 2017-18.

Chelsea, meanwhile, lead the league with 69 points. Arsenal are sixth with 51 points. Tottenham (62) — one of the other teams rumored to be interested in Sanchez — Liverpool (59), Manchester City (58) and Manchester United (53) round out the top five.

Law suggested that Sanchez, a former Barcelona star, may have to force his way out of Arsenal, leading “to a potentially ugly summer saga.”

The Chilean has scored 18 goals for the Gunners this season, twice as many as Arsenal’s second-best scorer, Theo Walcott.

Despite all of the speculation surrounding Sanchez’s possible exit from the club, manager Arsene Wenger has stated he is confused as to why there is so much noise about this, particularly because he considers the Chilean still has a long time remaining on his contract.

“He has a one and a half year contract,” Wenger said. “I don’t see what suddenly that debate is about.

“We are professional football people, our job is to perform as long as we are somewhere.

“When I sign a contract, I commit until the last day of my contract. That is what it is to be professional.

“I don’t understand this anxiety, one and a half years before the end of a contract,” he continued. “It’s absolutely denying what a professional guy is about.”

Arsenal next host West Ham on Wednesday, and will miss French defender Laurent Koscielny for that game. Koscielny injured his Achilles tendon during Sunday’s 2-2 tie with Manchester City and left the field at half-time. Now, the Gunners anxiously await the results of his scans.

Several European teams are fighting to sign Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez, with Chelsea and Bayern Munich having emerged as the top contenders thus far.

Chelsea, Bayern Munich Interested in Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez as Summer Signing

Bayern Munich are reportedly eager to sign the 28-year-old Chilean, amid reports Arsenal would demand £50 million ($62.3 million) for his signature this summer, according to Sport .

The Evening Standard’s James Olley also reported that Arsenal would likely demand a large sum before agreeing to this deal. Even with just one year remaining on his contract, the Gunners estimate Sanchez’s value at £50 million.

Sanchez himself, is demanding a pay rise from £130,000 ($162,000) a week to £250,000 ($311,000), and has told Arsenal this is non-negotiable.

The Chilean, a former Barcelona star, has been a stand-out player for Arsenal since he arrived at the Emirates Stadium in 2014.

Meanwhile, Chelsea’s Italian manager Antonio Conte is negotiating a new contract with the club, and summer signings have been discussed as part of this. Sanchez’s name has been added to the list of potential signings.

Paris Saint-German, one of Europe’s richest teams, are also interested in the forward, as are Juventus and Internazionale.

Sánchez’s agent, Fernando Felicevich, is understood to be aware of Chelsea’s interest, although there has not yet been an actual bid from the English club, who are the Premier League leaders. Arsene Wenger recently stated contract negotiations with Sanchez were on hold until the end of the season. The Chilean is determined to leave, nevertheless, as he has allegedly been frustrated with the lack of progress at Arsenal over the last two seasons. At the beginning of March, Sanchez reportedly stormed out of an Arsenal training session, and was also involved in a locker-room scuffle with some of his teammates. If Chelsea were to sign Sanchez, he would become the club’s first transfer from Arsenal since Ashley Cole in 2006.

Conte joined Arsenal last summer on a deal until 2019 worth approximately £6.5 million ($8.1 million) per year and, although Chelsea are keen to extend that and will increase his salary, any agreement reached may be confirmed only after the club wins the Champions League.
