Arch Manning is widely considered to be one of the best quarterback prospects the NFL draft has seen in quite some time. There is a very good chance that he will be the first pick of the 2026 NFL Draft.

However, recent news from NFL insider Adam Schefter is telling NFL teams who might be interested to pump the brakes.

“There’s no guarantee Arch Manning comes out after next year,” Schefter said during an appearance on Get Up on ESPN. “It sounds like he certainly could be staying. He could be in the draft in 2027.”

While this news comes as somewhat of a surprise, with Manning’s NIL valuation at $6.5M according to on3.com, it’s not unimaginable he would return to Texas for another season.

This could potentially change the strategy of NFL teams waiting for Manning, especially considering the 2025 quarterback draft class, which is largely considered weak.

In 2024, Manning appeared in ten games and started in two games following an injury from the time Texas starting quarterback Quinn Ewers. Manning finished the season with 939 yards on 67.8 completion percentage with nine touchdowns and two interceptions.

If Manning plays at a high level in 2025, it is still likely that he forgoes his college eligibility and enters the NFL Draft.

With the new NIL landscape, however, there is no rush for Manning to make a choice if he isn’t ready.

The Texas Longhorns are coming off a College Football Playoff Semifinal appearance and, led by Manning, hope to return to the CFP again.

Jimmy Garoppolo’s busy offseason is only getting started. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Wednesday that the 49ers gave the quarterback and his agents permission to seek a trade. Shortly before this development, Garoppolo had been cleared to practice with the team following surgery in March.

Talk of the 49ers dealing Garoppolo has persisted for several months and intensified in May when Head Coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters that the quarterback would likely be traded. Garoppolo’s surgery was reportedly responsible for the delay, and Schefter said that the 49ers are still “expected to exercise caution” as they explore options this summer.

In five seasons with the 49ers, Garoppolo has led the team in two lengthy postseason runs. In 2019, he threw for 3,978 passing yards and 27 touchdowns as San Francisco went 13-3 in the regular season. They lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl.

This past year, Garoppolo’s only other healthy season as a starter, the team snuck into the playoffs with a 10-7 record but upset the Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers to advance to the NFC Championship Game. They lost 20-17 to the Los Angeles Rams, who went on to win the Super Bowl.

Based on his successful postseason resume, it’s clear that the 49ers aren’t looking for other options because of Garoppolo’s time on the field. By most measures, he appears to be a strong leader with a proven track record. But because of multiple injuries, his time off the field seems to be the primary issue.

Since 2018, Garoppolo has failed to complete two seasons with the team, and in those years, San Francisco earned a 10-22 combined record. With his most recent surgery in mind, the quarterback becomes even more of a liability.

Despite injury concerns, multiple teams are likely to inquire about Garoppolo as the season approaches. With Deshaun Watson in line for a lengthy suspension, the Cleveland Browns appear to be prime trade candidates with the cap space necessary to take on his contract, but many other teams could benefit from Garoppolo’s experience for the right price. The fight for Garoppolo is unlikely to turn into the sweepstakes that many other quarterbacks have enjoyed as free agents in recent years, but the upside for some teams will surely outweigh the potential hazards.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero gave a vaccination update on Wednesday. “Vaccination update 20 days before most NFL teams report to camp,” said Pelissero on Twitter. “Five teams have 85% or more players with at least one shot, 68% of players league-wide with at least one shot (national rate is 67.1%, and 53% among men 18-39). Virtually all Tier 1 and 2 personnel are vaccinated.”

The numbers show a slight increase in the percentage of vaccinated players. NFL insider, Adam Schefter, reported that only 65% of NFL players were vaccinated in June. Numerous players have been openly against receiving the vaccine. Amongst those includes Buffalo Bills wide receiver Cole Beasley, who doesn’t plan on getting vaccinated, and has even said he’d rather retire than get vaccinated.

The league has started to incentivize players who get their vaccines. The NFL is willing to loosen restrictions for those who are vaccinated and provide them their per-game roster bonuses. Vaccinated players will still receive their per-game roster bonus if they somehow test positive for COVID-19. The players who are not vaccinated will undergo strict restrictions, and if an unvaccinated player tests positive and misses time, they’ll run the risk of losing their bonus money.

The league requires coaches and other staff vaccinations to be eligible for Tier 1 or 2 status and the ability to work directly with players. Those who aren’t will not be able to receive either tier status.

Jerry Jones Calls Link Between Football and CTE 'Absurd'

At least three Dallas Cowboys are suspended for parts of the 2016 season and as a result, Jerry Jones will have to cough up some cash.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Wednesday that Dallas will be facing a fine in the $250,000 range after defensive ends Randy Gregory and DeMarcus Lawrence were suspended, along with linebacker Rolando McClain.

Cowboys Face Hefty Fine From NFL For Players’ Misbehavior

The fine is triggered when three (or more) players are suspended by the league.

The “club remittance policy,” as Shefter referenced it, was put into place to hold teams accountable for acquiring players whom have violated NFL rules and regulations. The deterrent is to fine teams an amount that is equal to 25 percent of the suspended players’ salaries.

An excerpt from the remittance policy:

“When a player is suspended without pay for a violation of the Personal Conduct Policy, Policy and Program on Substances of Abuse or Policy on Performance-Enhancing Substances, the club that employed the player at the time of the violation will be required to remit to the Management Council a portion of the player’s salary that is deemed forfeited by virtue of his suspension. The collected funds will be used to support the steroid and drug policies, the Player Care Foundation, and other research and player engagement programs.”

McClain, Gregory and Lawrence were all suspended due to violating the NFL Substance Abuse Policy. Lawrence is slated to miss four games and McClain is suspended for 10 contests in 2016.

Gregory was initially suspended four games, but another recently reported violation will likely lengthen that suspension though no word yet on how much longer it would be.

Tough times for dem’ Cowboys these days.

First Take star Stephen A. Smith may have said it best:

“If there is something there to do wrong, they will do it,” Smith said. “If there’s something there that can go wrong, it will happen.”

Greg Hardy’s contract with the Dallas Cowboys expired just last month. No team has signed the controversial free agent defensive end since then, which is why Hardy had time to sit down with ESPN’s Adam Schefter for an interview on Monday.

Greg Hardy Denies Hitting Ex-Girlfriend In ESPN Interview

During the interview, Hardy denied every having hit a woman, in response to Schefter’s question regarding a 2014 domestic violence incident in Charlotte, North Carolina, involving him and his former girlfriend, Nicole Holder. At the time of the incident, Hardy was a member of the Carolina Panthers.

“I’ve never put my hand on any women … in my whole entire life, no sir,” Hardy said Monday in Oxford, Miss., where he played collegiately for the University of Mississippi. “That’s just not how we’re raised. As you can tell, like I said again, it’s the Bible belt. It’s just something that’s, I wouldn’t even say frowned upon, just something that’s nonexistent in most southern homes.”

Schefter then followed up by asking Hardy about the pictures of Holder, in which she is shown severely bruised and battered, that surfaced on the website Deadspin last November in connection with the alleged assault.

Holder accused Hardy, 27, of throwing her against a bathroom wall, and then pushing her onto a bed covered with assault rifles and subsequently choking her and threatening to kill her during an altercation at his apartment.

“I will stop you there and say that I didn’t say that I didn’t do anything wrong,” he said. “That situation occurred and that situation was handled but … saying that I did nothing wrong is a stretch but saying I am innocent is correct. Yes sir.”

Hardy was convicted on charges of domestic violence, specifically assaulting a female and communicating threats, in 2014 in a bench trial by judge. He appealed, seeking a jury trial, but the case was thrown out in February 2015 when Holder stopped cooperating with authorities. Hardy filed a petition last year in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, to have his domestic violence charges expunged from his record.

After a portion of the interview aired on ESPN, Hardy was called out by former Panthers teammate Steve Smith Sr. on Twitter. The wide receiver, who now plays for the Baltimore Ravens, tweeted an excerpt of Hardy’s interview and called himself an advocate against domestic violence, adding that his mother is a survivor.

A six-year NFL veteran, Hardy has compiled 40 career sacks in 75 games and was tagged by the Panthers as their franchise player after the 2013 season, when he posted a career-best 15 sacks.

Hardy was suspended four games last season and missed all but one in 2014 with the Panthers.

New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul has filed a lawsuit against ESPN and reporter Adam Schefter for violation of privacy after severely injuring his hand in a fireworks accident on July 4.

Giants’ Jason Pierre-Paul Sues ESPN, Adam Schefter For Leaked Medical Files

The lawsuit was filed on Wednesday in Miami Dade County, according to the New York Post. Pierre-Paul has not stated exactly how much money he is seeking from ESPN or Schefter.

Four days after Pierre-Paul suffered the injury, Schefter reported that JPP would have to have his right index finger amputated. Schefter broke the news on Twitter, and added a picture of Pierre-Paul’s medical records.

The defensive end’s lawyers, Mitchell Schuster and Kevin Fritz, maintain that’s where the invasion of privacy took place.

“This action arises out of ESPN reporter Schefter’s blatant disregard for the private and confidential nature of plaintiff’s medical records, all so Schefter could show the world that he had ‘supporting proof’ of a surgical procedure,” the lawsuit states.

The lawsuit also states that Schefter “improperly obtained” the medical chart from Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, where JPP was treated. Two hospital employees were fired this month after Jackson Memorial conducted an internal investigation.

In an interview with Sports Illustrated last July, Schefter admitted he “could have and should have done more” to protect JPP’s medical records.

Schefter also defended his reporting. “[I]n a day and age in which pictures and videos tell stories and confirm facts, in which sources and their motives are routinely questioned, and in which reporters strive to be as accurate as possible, this was the ultimate supporting proof,” Schefter said at the time in the SI interview.

ESPN also released a short statement at the time, which claimed that the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 “does not apply to news organizations.”
