Spurs Play-by-Play Voice Jacob Tobey Out Amid Cheating Allegation

San Antonio Spurs television announcer Jacob Tobey is no longer with the organization, days after a viral social media post accused him of cheating on his longtime girlfriend with a Spurs player’s sister.

Neither the Spurs nor Tobey’s representatives have publicly commented on his status. KSAT reported that multiple unnamed sources confirmed the accuracy of that report, though the team declined to comment when the station asked directly.

The controversy erupted late Tuesday night, when a story posted to Tobey’s Instagram account claimed he had cheated on his girlfriend of six years with Loren Waters, the sister of Spurs forward Lindy Waters III. A follow-up post showed a photo of the two together. The posts were quickly screenshot and spread widely across social media before being taken down.

Tobey’s girlfriend later posted on her own account, indicating that she, not Tobey, had made the posts. Since the story broke, Tobey has set both his Instagram and X accounts to private and appears to have taken down his LinkedIn profile.

The timing is notable: just three weeks before the allegation surfaced, Tobey had announced on X that he’d signed a multi-year extension to remain with the Spurs, telling fans he loved the city and thanking the organization.

Tobey joined the Spurs booth in October 2024, replacing longtime announcer Bill Land, and had just wrapped his second full season calling games alongside team legend Sean Elliott. A Sandwich, Massachusetts native and 2018 Suffolk University graduate, he interned with the Celtics and Patriots before working as a sports anchor in Tulsa and Denver and calling games for Fox Sports and the Pac-12 Network. Front Office Sports had named him one of the sport’s rising young play-by-play voices last year.

His exit leaves one of the more coveted jobs in local sports broadcasting vacant. The Spurs are coming off a run to the 2026 NBA Finals behind a young core led by Victor Wembanyama, and the team is still searching for a new local broadcast home after FanDuel Sports Network shut down at the end of last season.

KSAT noted it could not independently verify the allegation of an affair — only the reporting that Tobey is departing the organization.
