Spurs’ Kawhi Leonard Still Drives ’97 Chevy Tahoe From High School

San Antonio Spurs forward Kawhi Leonard is a man of simple taste. Although he’s a superstar on the court, he is far from being that off it — in fact, he’s not flashy at all.

Spurs’ Kawhi Leonard Still Drives ’97 Chevy Tahoe From High School

He isn’t very talkative, but he did manage to reveal a few tidbits about himself in recent interviews. Leonard, 24, still drives the same car he did in high school, a beat-up 1997 Chevy Tahoe, nicknamed ‘Gas Guzzler,’ which he drove across Southern California’s Inland Empire as a teenager. “It runs,” Leonard stated, “and it’s paid off.”

Just last summer, the All-Star agreed to a five-year, $94 million contract extension.

Another fun fact about himself that Leonard shared is that he’s big on coupons for chicken wings. Leonard happily sponsors Wingstop, which sends him coupons for free wings, so that he can nurse his addiction to Mango Habanero. This past winter, he reportedly panicked after he lost his coupons, but Wingstop generously supplied him with more.
