The Seattle Seahawks have signed veteran defensive end Dwight Freeney to a one-year deal, the franchise announced Tuesday night.
Freeney, 37, became a free agent in March after playing one season with the Atlanta Falcons. The 2002 first-round pick out of Syracuse — who formerly played for the Indianapolis Colts, Arizona Cardinals and then-San Diego Chargers — recorded one sack and seven hurries in Super Bowl LI.
The Seahawks (4-2, 2nd in NFC West) are desperate for a defensive end after starter Cliff Avril was placed on injured reserve with a neck/spine injury.
Seattle — which defeated the New York Giants 24-7 on Sunday — next hosts the Houston Texans — who are coming off a bye week — on Sunday.
