The Seattle Seahawks will start their offseason by looking for a new offensive coach. On Tuesday night, the team announced that they will be parting ways with offensive coach Brian Schottenheimer.
The team issued a brief tweet on Tuesday night saying, “Brian Schottenheimer is a fantastic person and coach and we thank him for the last three years.” Seattle gave the reason for firing the offensive coach as “philosophical differences.”
During the former offensive coach three-year tenure with Seattle, the team’s offensive consistently ranked as top 10 during those three seasons. Seattle’s offense was ranked as sixth, eighth and ninth this season.
Despite these positive results, head coach Pete Carroll wants to focus on running the ball more than passing. Seahawks’ running offense has declined in the last two seasons. In 2018, the team had the league’s best rushing offense. In 2019, the team was ranked fourth for rushing, and in 2020, their rushing fell to 12th.
